(Old) Airmail in the MMP

Evening all. True to my word, outside of fixing a salad bowl, nothing worth mentioning has been accomplished since my last missive, outside of watching You Tube and browsing webcomics. Rain seems to have stopped for the moment but the Weather Wizards say we’ll be getting a little more later tonight.

Lily, I need to go looking for some men’s shirts, the ones I have are 18.5"-19" neck sizes and with my weight loss I presume they will not fit well, albeit I don’t do formal except maybe 1-2 times every other year or so…

JtC, nice story, wonder if he ever got a ride or not. Never was a fan-letter writer, but envy your collection anyway. And with 1-2 day-long exceptions, can’t remember being real sick (as in lay in bed and do nothing except get up and use the bathroom sick) for past 7-8 years.

VanGo, I’ve been lucky, the motoring folks in my neighborhood apparently eschew motorcycles, so outside of the occasional leaf blower or ‘engine tuneup’ it’s pretty quiet here. Hope he takes his revs elsewhere. And I was at the Museum of Science in Boston about 6-7 years ago but have no memory of any good places to eat. Putting the info in Google maps shows everything from Italian to Mexican to McDonald’s not to far away.

And it’s closing in on 10pm, another 16 hours without nappage (I am going to have to learn that trait again) so bedtime beckons. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Oh, I’m sure he turned down a LOT of rides, he was just celebrating his favorite book series.

Today is Douglas Adams’ birthday. He wrote the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe series and one of the things discussed frequently was the importance of always knowing where your towel is. Also big red reassuring letters.

Are you also a Novid? I don’t know that I’ve ever met one irl, we are pretty rare nowadays.

I was heading to bed but then heard a very loud squall and got to the living room in time to see the back end of a deer going over the fence. Apparently deer HAVE been getting on our porch for whatever reason and Jolene has been running them off. We have GOT to start remembering to close those drapes it just gets far too noisy at night anymore.

I would take myself to the North End where there is great Italian food, from pizza and subs to cannolis (ah, the cannolis!), fresh breads and pasta from casual to fine dining.

Nearby is a more touristy historical landmark Faneuil Marketplace has stalls and restaurants selling every imaginable New England dish, especially seafood fresh off the boat.

Just be careful, if you order tea or coffee ‘regular’ it will be half cream and sugar.

Enjoy! I lived there 40 years ago and still miss it.

I’m another, ain’t ever had the 'rona. I think that’s mostly because I worked by my self for the whole time. Who knows what bugs I’m going to catch from the little germ factories this summer. 20 odd years ago doing an install at the place I now work (long complicated story), I got pink-eye.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 71 degrees Ferret Height(21.667 Centipedes) outside.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 24c/76f with a predicted high of 31c/87f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It may feel fucking nice outside but it would be nicer if you had a puppy. And that fucking puppy puked money.”

Only for you, because I’m not in the US and I started the post on a bank holiday so technically it’s a BHMMP instead

I hope you feel better soon, and the 'quils do their job.

I am so sorry to read about your father, that must have been awful for you. I hope you manage to get everything done and settled without too much fuss. Congrats on the house, but boo to all those repair gremlins. The house looks lovely and I hope you’ll be very happy there.

I share that feeling. My neighbour across the street used to have one that seemed to require revving for 10 minutes while it was warming up, and also quite excessive revving going down the street. My opinion is that he did not have a licence for it, and never learned how to ride it (or treat it) properly.

Yesterday was a public holiday here so there was no irk involved in my day. I had a nice lie-in, got up to tend to the needs of cats, lazed in the morning, went out to do grocery shopping, changed the bedding and put that through the wash, lazed a bit more and then went to a spin class. I was absolutely melting when it finished! 'im indoors provided dinner, and I collected up the recycling and hauled the biiiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection.

Today is a working from home day so I’m up and showered, I’ve been out to haul the biiiig bin back to where it lives, and am about have a catch-up meeting with a couple of people. I’m popping out a bit later this morning to take 'im indoors to the station as he’s off to Scotland for a week to stay with his mum. Before that, I need to wake my neighbour up and get him to move his car because he’s overhanging my drive and I won’t be able to get my car out. He usually parks better than that, but he’s never been arsey about moving his car so that will be ok.

Time to get a quick cuppa before my meeting, hopefully it won’t generate any extra work but you never know…

GNood Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 85 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for the afternoon. We are also under a flood watch. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I can hardly contain myself. I also need to deal with some errands, so think I will this mornin’. There will be the ususal RDOS sloth as is our wont. Sup will be various leftovers from yestiddy.

JtC autographed pics of Under Dog and Bill Mummy? Impressive! Do you still have them? Go Jolene the mighty chaser offer of deer!

VanGo the Chuckit thing looks like fun. Have a good trip to Boston! Will Ms. Peach be boarded whilst you’re gone?

WetOne glad the bath went well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into errands and laundry! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Starting at 64 Ferrets and rain, headed to upper 70s with more rain on and off all day. FCD has already left for the boat. I will finally (no really!!) get all the curtains repaired as required and ironed for installation. There are 19 of them (I think) and while they’re not long, there’s still a bunch.

I ordered some flea and tick carpet spray. Ticks are really, really bad this year - we’ve already found 3 or 4 in the house. Otis is on the flea and tick meds but I’m assuming it doesn’t affect his coat, so the damned critters hitchhike in without biting him. FCD will pick it up on his way home today and we’ll give the house a good spray - especially around the dog door.

Not a lot else on the agenda. The gray drearies really affect my mood - I just don’t want to do anything. Ugh.

Hope the rest of you have a Happy Tuesday!!

Morning all. Seems that 6:30am is the new bladder wake-up time these days, so I am up, have broken fast, and am ready for the day…which is socked in with clouds and a 45% of rain this afternoon. Nothing much on the agenda, might even do (gasp!) housework as there are a couple things that should be done. Probably a little gym work this afternoon but not as much as yesterday. The toe caps seem to be working, my little toe seems to be doing better and I’m having 90% less pain than before, so that is good.

KtC, I have all the HHGTTG books so I got the reference right away…never did get into Adam’s Dirk Gently series, may have to go looking for that. And as far as I’m aware I am a Novid, albeit I took all the precautions and got my shots as soon as they were available. And Oh Deer!

swampy, Flood Watch here too.

FCM, good luck on the tick war. And I like the term ‘grey drearies’…they afflict me too.

And cereal has been consumed so the eating portion of the morning is done, so some internettin’ is now called for. Have a good 2sday all.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 48F and partly cloudy outside. Our daytime high is expected to be 62°F, with some late-morning showers and afternoon cloudiness. It got soggy here yesterday afternoon, so I never got to cut the grass.

liirogue, wow, that’s just a lot. Your house looks quite lovely now, but I am sorry about all the home ownership problems. My son is finding the same gremlins because he just bought his first house, too. I am sorry about your Dad, too.

JtC, both my husband and I are both NOVIDs. We somehow never contracted it.

VanGo, my crappy neighbor, also now has a loud, obnoxious bike, and he is sure to rev it upon every departure and every return. He’s just an asshat.

Tomorrow is expected to be the nicest day of the week, with abundant sunshine and highs around 76°F. Of course, though, I have a meeting with my mother’s care team at 1:30, so that means the day is essentially lost to anything productive outside. Thursday will be even warmer, but with a little cloudiness here and there, which means humidity. Bleh.

I visited my mother yesterday and spent some time labeling the new pants I got her before going to the SNF, changing her into a pair of said larger pants, filling out an inventory sheet again because they didn’t have one at the nursing station because for some reason it wasn’t there. After that, I walked with her and the therapist down the halls and into the therapy room, and then spent time in there while she did some other therapy. She is still quite weak, but she seemed more with it, although she still expresses confusion about how she ended up there at all. I think what she means is that she doesn’t understand how such a tiny cuticle cut led to all of this. I dunno, we’ll find out more tomorrow, I guess.

After the visit, I drove back to my area, then headed to the valley, to the nursery I knew had calendula. I picked up some more, along with three nice heliotrope plants. I love the smell of heliotrope. I came home, unloaded the plants, watered the pots and baskets on the front porch, as well as the plants still in nursery pots in my backyard. Turns out the watering in the backyard was unnecessary, but oh well.

If the rain holds off, I’ll work some more on transplanting today. If not, a good rollsucking is definitely needed.

Alrighty, time to finish my coffee and get the day started. You all take care of yourselves, please.

“Novid”? “No Covid”?

There’s a Fogo de Chao in Boston, but I’ve no idea how close it is to the museum.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Celebration (more or less) will occur this afternoon. Or perhaps we’ll hold off until tomorrow, when my SS hits the bank, so we can do a bit of shopping while we’re out.

0930, and we already have 67 of the 75 predicted ferrets (19 of the 24 centipedes).

:birthday_cake:  Happy birthday, Herald!:birthday_cake:

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Once sheveled, I’ll go vote and t a podiatrist appointment. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My mother was an inveterate letter writer. We spent ten years after WW2 in West Africa, and she wrote to people in several countries as well as relatives back home.

Air Mail (Par Avion) letters were flimsy blue paper with a sticky border that folded up into an envelope. They didn’t need a stamp, as that was included in the price of the paper. I suspect that it wasn’t cheap because people generally replied by sea mail, which was cheaper but took a lot longer.

I started ironing, but my 20+ year old iron finally gave up the ghost. I’d been thinking to replace it anyway since the cord was starting to look ratty. So I’ve got a new one coming from DaJungle tomorrow. I hate giving their jerky owner my money, but there ya go.

Guess I’ll have some lunch now.

Oh, speaking of revving neighbors, this county is full of car guys - there’s a drag strip a few miles from my house, and car shows abound. Our neighbor has some sort of race vehicle that he works on, but it’s just an occasional thing and never at stoopit hours. I’d rather not hear it, but overall he’s a good neighbor, so I really can’t complain. Except for his kids, but that’s another story.

OK. Lunch.

the sore in sore throat happened today. i didn’t have a fever so i dosed with dayquil and went into the office to get my laptop and do the deposit. my boss agreed i should be home. i did the deposit and hopped back on the shuttle.

i got chicken soup from the store and am in chair with cats. koritza tried to start a new thread. i managed to stop that before she hit the enter button.

liirogue, that is a fine looking home! great colour choices.

i mostly email and text these days. i usually only handwrite post when answering an invitation on house paper. the last one would have been for a cousin’s wedding in 2016.

As temps head toward the 80s and humidity climbs, our AC has finally kicked into gear (!). Huzzah! And I didn’t have to go whine at anybody!

Today’s breakfast was a cheesy egg croissant sandwich with sausages on the side. Nothing much on the agenda, but laundry still awaits.

Good morning, everyone. I went to bed at a reasonable hour last night and got up with my walking alarm. I checked the radar and saw a big yellow blob about two or three miles to my west. I climbed back into bed for an hour.

I’m really feeling the GD today. I think it’s because with Mrs Magill’s parents visiting, my bi-weekly relief valve of presenting for my counselling session tomorrow is probably off the table. I just need to put on my big girl pants and work through it.

Tomorrow is Squeaky’s seventeenth birthday. We’re giving him a ride to the airport, so he can jet off to France. He is all packed and ready to go. We’re sending him off to Costco with his grandfather, so they can pick up the Tuxedo Cake he had requested.

I’ve never tested positive for it, but I’m pretty sure that flu I had last year was actually the 'rona. Especially since Mrs Magill tested positive for it the next week.

My neighbor, two houses over, is a very nice man. He’s a little, tiny guy, but he has a huge diesel truck. He drives his kids to school every morning at seven. You can set your watch by that truck making its way up the hill.

Outside of a very infrequent business letter here and there, I’ve never written a personal letter!

Lucky you. DH and I have both had one known case, in 2022 (I was vaccinated, he wasn’t), and had the misfortune to be sick the same week (lousy way to spend my birthday that year). I suspect I had it in 2020, but cannot be sure since tests were so hard to come by at that time.
