Oopsie! Great to see you and hear about your move, and so sorry you’ve lost your pup.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 71 degrees Ferret Height(21.667 Centipedes) outside.
Nice.
Morning, mumperes! It’s currently 16c/62f with a predicted high of 25c/78f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “You could go outside to see how fucking hot it is, but what’s the fucking point?” Very true, I went outside to put a bag of rubbish in the bin, that’s enough outdoors for me today.
Happy birthday to ““Squeaky””, I hope he enjoys the trip to France! I’m sorry that the GD is hitting you today though {{{{{Mollie}}}}}
I have a growing heap of t-shirts that need ironing. I can’t do it in this heat so they’ll all have to wait. The rollsucking will have to wait too, I’m not attempting anything strenuous at the moment.
Welcome back, Oopsie! We’ve missed you
Congrats on the new place, I hope there will be pics when you’ve got yourself settled in.
JtC sounds like you had a fun day out, the Mothman Museum looks like a fun place to visit.
Yesterday turned out to be the most scorchio day of the year, it was absolutely boiling in the house even with the curtains closed and only windows open when the sun was shining directly towards them. I was glad to be working at home so I could keep an eye on the mogs, they were largely just flaked out in various parts of the house. Today promises to be a little cooler which is a relief, I’ve got all the upstairs windows open (it’s just after 9am) until the sun gets too strong in the back of the house, then I’ll close them until it moves around to the front.
Heat and lethargy meant very little got done yesterday, apart from irkage. I had leftover chicken curry for dinner so minimal cooking required, and I’ve pulled something else out of the freezer for tonight. I need to make campus food later as I’m back in the office for the last two days of the week. It might be an interesting trip though, hot weather and our trains don’t work well together! Also, part of the line I use to get to campus is closed on Friday as the engineers are moving a mahoosive bit of concrete as part of the HS2 nonsense. Oh, the joys of commuting.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and cloudy with rain/tstorms/apocalypse from four to six p.m. I did not throw my laptop in the yahd last night and called it only one bad name when I woke up this mornin’. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions later in the mornin’. We shall get fried chikin plates for today’s main need to feed.
Oopsie welcome back! So good to hear from you. Conga rats on the move to bigger digs. Hope all goes well with the dentist today. Sounds like irk has been irksome, but you haven’t minded it so much.
Mollie sorry the GD has been so strong lately. Happy birthday to Squeaky! I hope he has a wonderful trip to France.
BooFae and Dicey hope the heat wave goes away soonest. I would not want y’all to swelter. Dicey the plants are bootiful!
JtC glad y’all enjoyed the visit to the Mothman Museum. It does sound like a fun place.
I had more replies to other folk last night but right now I cannot brain enough to remember, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Le sigh.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Good morning!
As it turns out I’ve just gotten a bit green around the edges. I think I should just go chill before work starts so I’ll hopefully feel better when I do. See you all later!
Today starts at 65 Ferrets, headed to low 80s with some rain promised late today and early tonight. Then tomorrow, big ball of fire will appear in sky!!
Around noon, we’ll be getting a Coast Guard safety inspection to see if we’ve done all the safe stuff. There’s no penalty if things are missed - they just point it all out - and once you’re in full compliance, you get a sticker for your boat. I know we’re not in full compliance because we still have some navigation lights to install but I think FCD has tended to everything else. We shall find out.
Other than that, maybe a quick stop at Aldi for some apples, and when my iron gets here, I can finish with the curtains. Mostly a quiet day ahead, theoretically.
For some totally unknown reason, I woke with an earworm of Tom Jones singing She’s a Lady. What a sexist piece that song is! Which got me to thinking about Gary Puckett and the Union Gap - another king of sexist songs. When you stop to think, there’s a lot of that kind of music out there - catchy tunes celebrating men treating women like toys or servants or something. < deep cleansing breath >
Happy Wednesday!

That reminds me – some years back I saw an ad for a mobile alarm clock. I’m sure it rolled, not walked, but when the alarm started ringing it started moving in more or less random directions. The idea, of course, was that you couldn’t just reach over and hit the snooze button without waking up – you’d have to find it first. ![]()
The song title sounds vaguely familiar, but I wouldn’t know Tom Jones if he came up and bit my ankle. My earworm yesterday was “Jingle Bells”, for some odd reason, but I did finally get it to stop.
0830, and we currently have 66 of the predicted 81 ferrets (or 19 of the 27 centipedes on offer). Yesterday’s forecast IIRC was 81 ferrets, but we only had 73. Lots of clouds, though it’s not supposed to start raining until tomorrow afternoon.
That’s a pretty boat, FCM, but it doesn’t have enough sails to suit me. ![]()
SS hit the credit union today, so after birthday-feasting we’ll stop at a couple of stores to restock a few things. Only thing I can think of offhand is bananas, but I’m sure Lady SCAdian has a few other things in mind.
0900 – time to feed the cats!
Morning, all! Thanks for the “welcome back” messages. ![]()
It’s currently 8:16am, and I’ve already been awake for almost four hours (ugh): I got back from dinner with friends last night to find bombshells in both my personal and work email inboxes, and stress woke me before dawn. I laid in bed for 30-40 minutes before accepting that sleep wouldn’t be returning. I’ve taken care of everything that I can this morning, but I don’t have to leave for the dentist for another hour so here I am.
Bombshell #1: I got a notification from my new homeowner’s association (HOA) that they will be re-sealing and re-painting the streets on Thursday and Friday of next week…and my move is scheduled for Thursday! Luckily my side of the neighborhood isn’t being done until Friday, but I did need to reschedule my FiOS transfer and a couch delivery. My street will be closed to any vehicular traffic for 24 hours starting at 7am Friday, so after the move I’ll just need to make sure I have everything I need in order to not leave the new house for a day. My priorities are in order, though: FiOS will now be transferred the day before the move, so I’ll have connectivity.
The couch won’t be delivered until Saturday, but I’ve ordered a beanbag chair to tide me over…and having some extra seating afterwards won’t hurt. I am so glad that my new property manager sent me the info for the HOA’s web site on Monday and I created my account yesterday morning, and was able to get that email notification! (He also sent me the notification he got, which was awesome of him and bodes well for this new relationship.
)
Bombshell #2: One of my direct reports, who never understood what her job entailed (but repeatedly stated that she thought she was doing just fine and “disagreed” with any performance concerns) and who just started a formal Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) last week, resigned without notice and without a word to anyone. I found out via the automated notification from our HR system. She knew I was OOO yesterday, but she and my boss – who she frequently talks to – were both in the office and she didn’t say a peep! Right now my boss is trying to locate the woman’s laptop and badge: they aren’t on the woman’s (former) desk, my boss’s desk, or my desk. My hope is that she turned everything into Security before she left yesterday, but typically those guys get in a little later so my boss has to wait. Frankly the resignation is kind of a relief, because it’s been a very stressful year with this woman and there’s no chance she was going to complete the PIP successfully (I knew I was going to have to terminate her in three more weeks), but the timing sucks and the way she did it was such a “f*** you”! ![]()
And now it’s 9am: time to put some real clothes on, and get ready to go to the dentist.
here I come!
Ugh! ![]()
OMG I like that even better than “oh-dark-thirty”…I’m stealing it! ![]()
Our previous 4 boats all had sails (one was a ketch!!) but neither of us can manage halyards and winches and sheets as we could in our 30s and 40s. Even the trawler can be a bit of a challenge, tho the bow and stern thrusters help a lot!
whoopsie - classy exit by your problem child. OTOH - YAY!! And have fun moving, including figuring out where everything needs to live. I always found organizing the kitchen to be the most difficult of decisions. Good luck!
And welcome back! I saw your occasional FB posts, so I knew you were still among the living, but it’s good to see you here.
OK, I’m not at the boat. FCD decided he really didn’t need my help (translation: He was showered and dressed and I was still in robe and slippers. So he headed out while I was in the shower. I’ve loaded the trash and recycling in my car and I’ll be taking it to the convenience center soon - they don’t open for another 20 minutes. And my iron was delivered, so I can finish the boat curtains. I think part of the reason the old one died was the hard water, so I’ll go buy a jug of distilled while I’m out.
Excitement abounds!!
Egad, Wodin’sday already! A holiday weekend always derails my mental calendar. I missed wind-the-clock day. I’ll wind it today, and I hope it hasn’t quit running.
Howdy, Oopsie. My HOA told us last year that they’d be expanding the neighborhood by lopping down a lot of trees and making a cul-de-sac with more houses. Nothing has happened yet, so they’re taking their sweet time about it.
It’s sunny and warm here, topping out at about 80 effs.
Good morning.
It’s 49F and sunny outside. The day will remain sunny, with an expected daytime high of 76°F. Great day for gardening, but unfortunately, my day is cut short by the 1:30 appointment with my mother’s care team. I can’t really garden beforehand because I’ll get too grubby, and by the time I get home, I think I’ll just be over it and not want to get out there.
One might say, “Why can’t you do some of that stuff in the morning and then get ready?” Well, I tend to lose track of time, and I would be late for the appointment. I actually prefer to get out in the morning to do the yard work because the temps are better and the sun isn’t beating down on me. Plus, I’m methodical and spend time placing plants around the area and moving them. One would call my style chaotic, I guess, but it always produces good results, so I’ll stick with it.
Oopsie, so good to see you again. I do remember you posting about Bailey, and I am sorry she is gone. Congrats on the new digs, and I hope the move goes smoothly. Finally, yeah, Problem Employee did a crappy thing, but on the other hand, she’s gone, and you all can move on without all the additional paperwork.
JtC, I will post pictures when I finally get everything transplanted. I am way, way behind this year because of everything with my mother. Additionally, the weather has been mostly crap (for May), so that also impeded progress. As for being NOVID, I wasn’t public-facing, so I didn’t deal with them regularly. We shut down the office fairly quickly, so I was lucky. And, the couple of months before the shutdown were slow travel months for me, so I didn’t deal with the public (or other employees) then either.
Safe travels, VanGo.
My husband wants to ride our bikes tomorrow, so another lovely day is lost to me being out in the yard. To be fair to him, it’s been a while, so I guess I should go.
I also need to start prepping for the friend’s memorial service. I promised to bring some type of salad AND dessert, and I still haven’t decided what I’m bringing. I also need some tropical-themed clothes, because the theme is Hawaiian and casual. That means shopping. In other words, I gotta bunch of stuff going on and a limited number of days to get it all done. The service is on Sunday.
I suppose I should get my day started. You all take care.
Your peonies are beautiful, dicey.
Gee, thanks for the earworm. I hadn’t thought of that song (or Tom Jones) in years.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis may be up today, so sheveling will need to be done right after.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Morning all. Stayed in bed until 8am this morning, so had a Big Bowl O’Cereal to finish off my milk (the gallon jug had a best-use date of today) so belly is nice and full. Nothing on the agenda so we’ll have to see what the day brings. About a 50% chance it will bring more rain, but it’s dry for now and about 75F heading to 82F later.
Dicey, pretty pics!
boo fae, one reason I like England is that 80F is considered very hot. Here, we consider it October…but then again, probably few if any places there have Air Conditioning, while it’s almost a requirement here.
Sticky Buns, feel better soon.
FCM, hope the inspection is 100% good after all the sweat equity you two have put into the boat. And now you have me reviewing my mental song library for other songs like you mention.
Herald, that walking alarm clock sounds…interesting. Mind doesn’t move but it’s quite loud (given my diminished hearing) and the button to turn it off is awkwardly located so it serves the same purpose.
Oopsie, hope the move isn’t too inconvenienced by the roadwork. And just up and leaving like that is the height of unprofessionalism, even for a problem employee. Hope she was responsible enough to turn things in.
Taters,
I’m not a plant person but I’ve found that philosophy (might look chaotic, but it works for me) to be well-founded…of course, sometimes I’m just plain chaotic…
And onward into what’s left of the morning. Have a good Hump Day all.
My walking alarm[1] decided I was awake enough to get up at 4:30. It was wrong. My bladder disagreed, so I was up at 4:30, a full half hour before I needed to be to get everyone tot he airport. We got Squeaky to the airport, and made sure to tell the teachers and chaperones that it is his birthday for maximum embarrassment. As Mrs Magill says, “If I can’t embarrass my kids in public, then what was the point in having them?” We stopped by the Twice Daily on the way back and got coffee. They have a good coffee bar in addition to good pastries.
Mrs Magill’s parents left this morning. I thought they were leaving tomorrow, but I was incorrect. I wasn’t sure whether they would leave a day later, since they had arrived a day later than I was expecting. As the man says, “Nobody tells me nuffin’.” On the bright side, this means I do get to put on my big girl pants.
Squeaky asked to be taken to the local Italian joint for dinner. My FIL was ecstatic, as he tried to take him there for lunch yesterday. I had a Chicken Marsala, Mrs Magill had an eggplant Parmesan, her parents had calzones, and the boys split a pizza.
Dicey Great pics.
The Mothman episode of Monstrum made me put the museum on The List.
We’d gotten one of those for Squeaky. It makes sounds like a R2 unit while it rolls around. He sleeps through it.
I use “Half past oh, hell no.”
As in alarm for getting up to walk ↩︎
I was doing the 100 Slide/Sort table today. Didn’t seem as busy, even with the usual volume(45k). There was a discussion of potlucks and people who slack on bringing things. T thought if someone shows up with nothing, “we should burn their ghost.” There was a lot of traffic on the roads today for some reason.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SQUEAKY!!!

You’re becoming a werefrog? Feel better!

Narf!

I was thinking more Jean and Clark
FCD dashed home because he forgot the first aid kit. He’s since headed back to finish fretting till the inspector shows up at noon. I hope he remembers to ask about disposal of old emergency flares. Near as we can tell, the closest place that will take them is in Delaware. Hard to believe that there’s nothing in Annapolis, being a boating town and all.
There’s something I really really like about my new iron - it retracts its cord!! It’s not as long as the cord on the old one, but it gets rolled up in the base. And so far, it works great - six more curtains done, 13 to go. After lunch. Must have priorities!
Mollie - just curious (nosy) - do you have a plan of who to tell when, or do you just kinda wing it? I’m assuming that’s something that’s discussed in counseling. And feel free to ignore my question - I know it’s none of my business.
There was a discussion of potlucks and people who slack on bringing things.
When I was working in Jax, we had a coworker from the Philippines who’d bring lumpia to all potlucks, till he realized that the slackers would show up with a bag of napkins before rushing to the front of the line. So he started bringing cheap, generic bags of cookies. I missed his lumpia… so yummmm!!
OK, back at it for me.
Mollie - just curious (nosy) - do you have a plan of who to tell when, or do you just kinda wing it? I’m assuming that’s something that’s discussed in counseling. And feel free to ignore my question - I know it’s none of my business.
I’m mostly winging it. I’m slowly building my circle. Reminds me: I have my inane ramblings saved on a thumb drive to give my counselor today.
80s all week and no rain. The AC is working, but can’t really keep up without a couple of fans helping to move the air.
Exercise this morning after four days of sloth. Finished all puzzles.
I had some food items delivered by Amazon the other day. It included a couple dozen eggs, which I’ve done before. A nasty surprise this morning when I found five damaged eggs in one of the cartons, only one of which was usable. Amazon has no option that I can find for lodging a complaint about delivery other than a generic one-star rating that nobody will read.
Actually, I found the refund option under “returns” and was able to get my CC credited.
once you’re in full compliance, you get a sticker for your boat
It should get a lollipop as well, for being good.
One of my more…interesting.. former housemates managed to kill her steam iron by putting flavoured water in there instead of distilled. Apparently she assumed bottled water would OK as it’s basically the same as distilled, and the flavouring would just produce a nice fragrance…
Temperatures dropped back down to about 15C here today, though the sun’s reappeared after hiding most of the day. Got home just before the new fire alarms got delivered. I guess putting them up is the evening’s plan, though my house doesn’t even get a sticker…
Welcome back Oopsie! Hope the move goes OK. It seems to be roadwork season round here, though it’s also pothole breeding season.
