(Old) An Air of Finality in the last 2024 MMP

I can’t recall the last time I was awake at midnight on NYE, so it’s not likely this year unless I lose track of time while playing stoopit computer games. When I was a kid, it was a huuuuuuge deal. Mom and Dad would go out all gussied up to some Knights of Columbus event and our babysitter would let us stay up past our 9PM bedtime. And a couple of times as an adult, I went out to ring in the new. Not any more, at least not deliberately.

Since I scoop during daylight hours and that’s when Ziva hides under the bed, it’s not a problem here. Taz never cared.

Speaking of my felines, a couple of weeks ago, I got an email from the vet saying it was time for shots. With 2/3 of the menagerie gone and the last critter strictly an indoor cat, I decided I’m not going to bother any more, so I replied to the vet that all my critters have going to their respective rewards. (Sorry, Ziva!) We got a card/note from the vet the other day. Very sweet of them, even tho it made me feel a little guilty for the little fib.

And speaking of notes, we got a thank-you from Hospice yesterday. I’d ordered a couple of items off their Amazon wish list for the Hospice House - the residence they have in Callaway. I’d completely forgotten about the purchase and I hadn’t thought to mention it to FCD, so he was confused when he read the note. Meanwhile, he still hasn’t read the draft of the note I wrote for him to edit so we can send it to Hospice. It’s full of nice words about the nurse, the aide, and all the others who tended to MIL over the last 8 months. I’ll nag him today.

Very weird dream last night (Mel seems to do that to me!) about going on a cruise and realizing at the last minute that I’d forgotten my passport. Yet I managed to get aboard the ship, so I was walking around to see what I’d miss, and then the ship left port. I was a little worried, but the first stop was in a US port, so I figured I’d just get off there. And for some reason I was traveling with a high school friend and she’d brought along some guy to share our cabin. Ick!

I think I know why cruises were on my mind - I’m looking for one between CA and FL via the Panama Canal. I want to make the full transit. Maybe I’ll do some looking today. Not sure what else is on the agenda, but it definitely won’t be TX Roadhouse! At least I hope not…

Thus beginneth the end of 2024. Happy NYE!!

Was a bit dehydrated. I am drinking more and its improving.
The cough will not go. I need cough syrup but not the kind that makes you drowsy.
Hope I can find something cheap.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 10c/50f and cloudy. Weather app is uminpressed and says “This fucking overcast nonsense if complete shit. Utter fucking rubbish.” We also have a warning for strong winds again, I can deal with that as it’s better than being further north with the threat of snow.

I saw the discussion on fruitcakes and it reminded me I haven’t had proper Christmas cake for quite a while. We used to make them ourselves but I haven’t done it since mum passed away, somehow doesn’t seem right to do it without her.

How exciting to have such a plan! I’m happy to hear that you’re still together and having such a great time - your year has certainly ended with a bang!

We’ve been to Vegas a few times and it did seem like every time we went, there were more kids than the last time. I found it odd, mainly because of the number of places where kids aren’t allowed to go, that the adults would probably want to go.

I hope your surgery goes well, and you enjoy the recovery time - it’s the perfect excuse to rest and do exactly what you please (while everyone else does the running around for you).

You must be feeling better if you’ve been able to tackle the ham. I think you’re right to try dissuading Mrs Cookie from venturing out on NYD, even though you’ve never picked up a bug before, it’s not worth taking the chance with so many nasty things going around.

BatBoy I’m so happy that your new job is so much better.

VanGo sounds like a very productive day moving all that stuff. I hope your back doesn’t stay sore too long.

I’m sure the hospice folks will appreciate it, it can’t be an easy job looking after the dying and their families.

I was up reasonably early today, tended to the demands of the felines and had a cup of tea before heading out to the gym. Today I burned off 667 calories so that’s one up on the devil today! I stopped off at the pet store on the way home to pick up a couple of bags of cat litter as we were down to our last bag.

I’ve got no other plans for today, apart from making chilli for dinner tonight. I might do the laundry as I’m fairly sure 'im indoors will need to do some of his own later this week. He starts his new job next week so he’ll be heading off on Sunday, but it does mean for at least the first week he will need something decent to wear (until he’s turned them to his way of thinking that jeans and t-shirts are perfectly acceptable).

We will no doubt still be up at midnight so we’ll pause whatever film we’re watching and put the telly on for the bells. I’m not sure how much will be going on tonight as Edinburgh and Blackpool have already cancelled their outdoor events due to the weather. Around here, it will be firework central so we’ll be keeping an eye on the mogs to make sure they’re not too freaked out by it all. I’ve done all my outdoor stuff for the day, and the car’s parked safely off the street as I don’t trust the locals, and the Heritage Centre will be open tonight which is another good reason to make sure my car’s safely parked away from harm.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 74 and partly cloudy. I shall spend some time today preppin’ for tomorrow’s NYD feast. Beastloaf will be made, collard greens cooked, and black eyed peas soaked. May even go ahead and make the mac ‘n cheese up as well. All that plus cornbread and peach cobbler will be consumed. Sup tonight shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

ETA

And now this…

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAY DEEEAAARRR CCCUUUPPPCCCAAAKKKEEESSS!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 37F and cloudy outside. It’ll be primarily overcast today, with a high temperature of 45F. The “meh” weather continues.

A couple of you asked if I could make the appointment FOR my husband. I tried twice, but he found an excuse not to go. The doctor’s office doesn’t like last-minute cancellations or no-shows. At some point, he needs to be a grown-up and take care of it on his own.

It’s back to work today. I have a lot to do, and it’ll probably be a long day. Guess I should get that kitchen tidied up.

My two already know I’m not right in the head by kitty standards, but they don’t usually find litterbox scooping so concerning. At least Buddy didn’t hop in while I was scooping to make a fresh deposit this time (he’s done it more than once).

He does that to me, too, and if I take too much, I can count on a nightmare.

@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat Your follow through for your resolutions is admirable. I look forward to reading about your new gym adventures.

I like this attitude. Every day is a new day and a chance to do something different. It doesn’t always have to match the beginning of a year or season.

Hope everything goes smoothly and you do manage to catch up on sleep.

That’s wonderful! I have a few colleagues who ended up separating from their employers (both voluntary and involuntary) that ended up in much better positions. It’s not easy to make the jump and I’m glad it turned out well for you. You mentioned the commute, how’s that going?

Sorry that you had to give up your shop. Hope the new plans turn out well. And take care of your back - we don’t bounce back like we used to.

:astonished:
I didn’t know such things happend on kids’ night. We’re usually there on a weekend because of people’s work schedules, so hopefully I’ll never meet Andy Armadillo.

Animal as Riff Raff?

Demanding little Egyptian God. Hope he appreciates it.

Hubby saw a picture of dinner rolls and made puppy eyes, so I ended up making some. Not too bad, but I had to put ½ in the freezer. Those things are dangerous. Enjoy!

:notes: Always look on the bright side of life. :notes:

Those tend to be on the longer side, right? IIRC you prefer cruises which are two weeks or more.

Happy Birthday @Baker! :birthday: :champagne:

Had breakfast and went to the store for milk, butter, etc. Made lunch and then hubby made afternoon lattes with whipped cream. Years ago we bought a whipped cream dispenser and a box of 12 cartridges. I think we use about 3 a year, and it’s usually over the Christmas break. Then we put it away for the rest of the years. Nice little afternoon treat.

Should get off the sofa and make an apple crisp. While that’s baking I should try toget through the papers that are piling up. So much for a paperless society. Sheesh!

Happy NYE!

Our cats never seem to pay attention when we’re scooping the boxes, but it’s generally less than a minute before one of them shows up to christen the new batch of litter.

Only thing I remember about Animal’s part in the show is that he ate all the sheet music, so Rowlf was having to improvise. I’ll see if I can find the online script again, though I couldn’t the last time I looked for it.

I’ll allow it.

I did that a couple years ago, (Miami to LA) it’s lots of fun but will be about 2 weeks long so plan for that. Still pretty memorable.

So, the neighbor of the beast. Did about 700 on the stationary cycles last night.

Happy Birthday Cupcakes!!!

Taters, good luck on the appointment front. And hope the day isn’t too long…

Dicey, thanks for the compliment, we’ll see what 2025 brings.

Shoe, happy that you are still housed. Hope tonight and tomorrow aren’t too bad work-wise.

I seldom if ever stay up to midnight for New Years, don’t plan on changing that habit. I do remember being out (in Abu Dhabi) at midnight on Y2K just to see if the apocalypse occurred (it didn’t). Most places (like the gym) close around 4-5pm today so it will be a quite evening of catching up on my newspaper reading and watching stuff on TV. I do have to go to the garage door opener company, I apparently bungled putting the remote back together plus I do not have a spare so need to see if I can get one, but that’s about all the adulting I plan to do. Now to get up and prepare a Big Bowl O’Cereal for the morning repast and get on with the day.

Off in the rain to get needed cough stuff.
Wondering where Januarys rent will come from.
Tried to online onboard yesterday and of course it won’t let me.

Yeah, but she doesn’t get it, for some reason.

Not a good term for it. Basically, it’s just the age where you can beg off if you want to.

Who doesn’t miss Dick Clark?

Me. I never watched his NYE stuff anyway. In fact, his blooper shows were irritating. Never a fan.

Reading through here makes me realize that, dang, I missed you guys. Oh, and I miss Dick Clark, too.

It’s gonna be a quiet day at work hopefully - we’ve been told to bugger off around noon, which suits me down to the ground 'cause I need a couple of things from the grocery.

We’re not doing much for New Year’s. We were out of the country last week during Christmas, so I’m making everyone come see some Christmas lights tonight at our local botanical garden, then we’re going home and eating delicious dips and desserts until midnight. We have a couple of friend groups who invited us over, but both groups have a tendency to binge drink and get really sloppy, NYE or not. I have to work in the morning and I’d really prefer not to do that feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. Overlygirl is a little mad because her friends are hanging out by themselves until midnight and I could just drop her off early and let her do that, but I’m making her come for the lights at least. “Family fun first, dammit.”

Now I’m fighting the urge to cancel all my meetings this morning, but I probably shouldn’t. Even though I dodged a bullet not getting my boss’s job, my VP gave me more people and announced it while I was out, so now have to deal with the resultant mess. Bleh.

When I read this, I transposed two words.

I have no interest in ringing in the new year, with or without Dick Clark. I think NYE is stupid and New Year’s Day as a holiday is even stupider. Why yes, I’m cranky. It’s raining now, turning into a wintery mix later. I don’t want to go out. I should visit Ariel.

I can’t believe that in all of my many, many visits to Roadhouse, that I never encountered Andy Armadillo and didn’t even know it existed!

And between you and Shoe I badly want Roadhouse now…

Happy birthday Cupcakes!!

Today will be a nice and quiet day. Like just about everyone else, I’ll stay in and don’t plan on even trying to stay awake until midnight. I will get out to grab a bottle of wine in a bit though.

This was our first time because FCD and I always avoided Kid’s Night. But last night, SIL invited us, and since he has kids… Anyway, as long as you’re OK with being surrounded by kids, you might try.

We’re having the last of the bean soup for lunch. I’ve got 2 poke chops with my favorite rub all bagged and waiting to be sous vided for supper. Sides will be rice and some sort of veggie matter. Or maybe spuds-n-onions and some sort of veggie matter. Plenty of time to decide.

It’s 55° - trying to decide if I’m motivated enough to do something outside. Probably not. Despite sleeping with Mel, I’m dragging.

So a reasonable day, considering all we were doing was Next Day Air. I made sure all the misssorts were on the right package car on ther right shelf, except for one. The driver had his bulkhead door shut, and started up the engine when I was 2 steps in. I toosed the 2 letters on ther floorboards and just out, since I didn’t want to text the boos and tell him to change my work code from “Unskilled labor ” to"Driver helper". I got gas and buttermilk on the way home(Molotov pancakes, anyone?). I also almost got plowed into twice in 5 minutes 50 yards apart, so yes I am having a gin&tonic with brunch.

If they find out, just tell 'em Mr. Schrodinger was pet sitting.

My father is a Dick Clark(and still above ground) :stuck_out_tongue:
But glad you’re hydrated.

It’s 61 here, but the high is only supposed to be 67. A bit of change from the usual low 70s NYE.
