Due to nature’s fireworks, the midnight fireworks didn’t go off. There were a few bangs set off by neighbours. Sounds like nature rang in 2025, between storms and auroras.
I didn’t hear about New Orleans until I read it here. Just devastating. The mummer’s parade was on all the tv’s at the restaurant. I have turned on cnn for the first time since nov…
Lager is back to his ornery, cuddly, grumbling self today. A bit of good news for today.
rocking_chair I’m glad to hear he’s doing better - that must have been terrifying yesterday morning.
Taters I agree that you need to do some digging. You’ve either got an app that’s hogging data or someone else has logged in.
My neighbors are really bad about setting off fireworks, and they did not pass up the opportunity last night. They started setting them off around 7 and were still going when I went to bed. Based on prior years, they’ll be shooting them off every night until at least Sunday.
It’s snowing again? still? … but I can hear it falling, so I suspect sleet pellets are mixed in. It’s definitely not the silent, muffled, big drifting flakes kind of snowfall.
Whelp, I’m out of my shop. My house currently is full of tools, until they get a place to go. Plus an extra file cabinet full of all my “important” papers.
I must curb my pack-rat habit. All these things have value, but only in very specific cases.
It was within the last month that I finally convinced myself to let go of some of my catering equipment - mostly just utensils. So, to be specific it took me 16 years to be ok with getting rid of some old spoons and whisks, etc.!
Anyways, you’ll be ok and you’ll find the right time to part with those things.
I’d mention my cat Atilla was not doing well. He’s still not back up to snuff, but he’s a little better, as he’s eating more. I am giving him canned food, ths soft and stinky kind, and he’s liking it. Now, when I get up to go to the kitchen he gets up and follows me, meowing. Atilla still isn’t back to jumping onto the chair or my bed, he curls up iin a cat bed on the floor. I have to stand guard over him when he eats on the floor, or the dog would take it.
I don’t drive, I’ve never learned, so that’s not on the cards. But driving would take about 25 minutes as it can go a direct route. I did look into all options, including buses, but the time it would take is the same no matter what.
The good thing about the train is it’s time to myself I wouldn’t get if I drove.
Packing some tortilla “scoop” chips, salsa, and a frozen mini guac thingie - it’ll thaw by the time I get to it.
Maybe one more slice of marble cake.
Ah, who am I kidding? Of course I’m bringing cake!
I need a proper lunch box. Or bento box, or tiffin, or whatever isn’t just a Wal-Mart bag with holes in it.
It’s S.M. day off, and Backup Manager is apparently still sick as shit (and the backupBACKUP manager is Grandma Crew who is also hacking and sniffling) so I have no idea who’s gonna be in charge of the lunatic asylum tonight.
Gawd, I hope it’s not the franchise G.M. (who happens to also be Backup Manager’s mother).
She’s no-nonsense, which I appreciate, but a micromanager, and one of those people who always makes me feel nervous that I’m doing something wrong … which usually throws me off my game and leads to … yup, doing something wrong.
Otherwise, I’m closing with one of the younger guys, who’s fast & a very hard worker … when he isn’t on his phone and/or in the bathroom, or calling out/leaving early.
Twenty twenty-five, 2025, twenny-twenny-5! I’m practicing. Maybe next time I have to date something, I’ll remember. Mrs. Nott bought some cabbage, and she’s thawing some kielbasa “coins.” I’ve got some round crackers someplace, so we’re all set for good luck rituals. I resolved to make a resolution, so this year I’m keeping my resolution.
I had my doubts about being able to post today. I switched from Firefox to DuckDuckGo for my browser, and there were a few hiccups along the way. Mrs. Nott is rather more tech-savvy than I am, and she got it sorted. It quacks now, instead of yipping, but that’s okay.
I wasn’t suggesting that - I was just curious. The me-time on the train is important and surely not as tiring as dealing with traffic.
I’ve been reading, with an occasional use of the tablet to look things up. That’s a major advantage of e-books - just highlight and it goes to Google. There are things in this book that are disturbing, mostly because of it having been written in the 40s. Specifically racist language - it’s words I haven’t heard used in ages so they’re jarring, the least among them being colored when referring to former slaves. She also makes some very broad generalizations about German people as if the entire population exhibits a particular personality. Those sorts of things pull me out of the story, but I take a deep breath and dive back in. I gotta find out who lives happily ever after.
Meatloaf is baking, and I just started the rice steamer. Green beans will be the side of choice. We’ll probably eat early since we had a light lunch around 11. Like it matters - we’re retired! We can do what we want!
OK, back to my book til the next timer dings or beeps or whatever it does.
Well, we went to the concert, which was a sellout. Gershwin and Ellington music. This is the first time I’ve heard Rhapsody in Blue live, a real treat. There were pieces from a couple of other artists and they had a well-known opera singer warbling them. Wrong voice for swing music, I’m afraid.
An interesting fact about Rhapsody is that the iconic clarinet glissando at the beginning was not supposed to be there. But the first person who was going to play the riff to an audience happened to be the child of Ashkenazi Jews (as was Gershwin) and wanted to play it like you would in a klezmer band. Gershwin thought that was a terrific idea. Or at least that’s the story the conductor told.
Neither did I. I watched network news early this morning before it happened.
Yay!
I’ve spent the day messing around in the studio and watching YT. I did make a to-do list for the next five days. While I’m going to be lazy, there are still a few things that I want to get accomplished.
And a good late afternoon/early evening to you all. The gym was open until 4pm so I went there earlier than usual and managed to get my 2 miles of swimming in. Got home in time to watch the ending of the Arizona-Texas tackleball game, but Ohio State has jumped out to such a big lead I’m just checking the score now and then. Have cheeseburgered and may get something else later this evening, we’ll see how it goes. Down to 40F now so no particular reason to got outside.
Oopsie, nice pic and arrangement.
I’ve got three 4-drawer filing cabinets filled with miscellaneous paperwork dating back a good 20 years, I could easily scrap 75% of it now, but…
Cupcakes, glad Atilla is on the mend.
KNotts., let us know how Duck Duck Go works; I’ve been a loyal Firefox user for many years, but if there is something better…
VanGO, as Maine goes…good wishes.
You and me both, rocky.
Cookie, Gershwin and Ellington to start 2025; better than most.
And it’s after 6pm here so I guess it’s a good evening now (at least that has always been my break point for afternoon/evening). Take care.
The cough still exists. Day 11.
I’m going to call tomorrow and see if the boss will help me onboard as it is not letting me. Why can’t things be on paper like they used to?
It needs fixed by Tues, so I can orient.
Tired of being broke.
It is cold out and to stay that way for quite some time.
Howdy Y’all! A good time was had by all today. Everyone got their fill of greens and blackeyed peas, so if they are poor and have bad luck all year it ain’t my fault. We achieved nappage after everyone left. Dishwasher got loaded and has done its thing. My DAWGS were supposed to play tonight, but due to what happened the game will be tomorrow afternoon at four. Just as well cause we are tahrd so sleepy time may come shortly.
