(Old) Be-Laboring A Point- An End Of Summer MMP

My thoughts exactly! red, whose birthday is 10 days after Xmas. My paternal grandmother usually got me a little something, since her birthday was the day after mine and she could relate. I don’t recall her buying birthday gifts for my siblings.

That’s how you know that you’re a serious hobbyist. I have different paper cutting scissors, a nice pair for thread, yarn and embroidery floss, both scissors and pinking shears for fabric and a pair of professional butcher’s scissors for the kitchen that were issued to me when I worked in raw products inspection at the meat packing plant (and no, NO ONE is allowed to use those for packaging. That’s what the box knife and cheap scissors are for).

I’m so sorry about your mom wordy. I’m glad that she got to spend her last minutes in her own bed with you and your sister. Hugs to you and the family.

The quilt show sounds like a nice trip hippy. Now, I want to go back to the Quilt and Textile Museum this weekend (I haven’t been for a few years).

Happy gotcha day to Misty seanette!

More politics at irk. I requested a PTO day for tomorrow and was approved, so I’m going to have a mental health day doing nothing that I have to do other than nuking / driving thru meals and KP. I’m thinking that reading, messing around in the studio, dusting off the autoharp and maybe, putting on pants and taking Nelson to the dog park. And maybe calling up SIL and suggesting a ramble said Quilt and Textile Museum Saturday.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

wordy, I am very sorry about your mom. I used to call Mom’s number just to hear her voice on the answering machine.

The new floor is lovely. No more carpet downstairs so it’s echo-y. Ursala Kitteh is very flustered with the change. I put a little rug in front of the patio door so she can be comfortabuhls while watching squirrels, etc.

I have mentioned I live in Topeka, Kansas, and that this is where the rock that the Phelp’s WBC hides under is located. Well, today I drove by their compound and Yep, sure enough, they claimed that God visited the fires on Maui for the residents sins. It is not missed though that these fires started just after they claimed to have left the state.

I wonder what their (WBC’s) explanation will be when their own facility burns down? Perhaps that god was aiming at teh gays who were protesting on the sidewalk out front but he missed. Asshats!

I don’t know whether the chirping was by design or just the result of a too-tight screw. But these are very close to the same ones she had. You might try a pair and get lucky.

No rush; they’ll be there tomorrow. As will be the heat.

Yaay for lovely! And for a job completed so you two won’t starve to death upstairs with no provisions.

As to me:
Our dinner was not as anticipated. Instead of ramen we went to the nice fish place across the street. Her Ladyship had a crab salad extravaganza served on avocado halves while I had a grilled swordfish w smashed fingerling potatoes and grilled veg and an Italian Pinot Grigio. Tres yummy. Now in a bit my blood sample will be due then I’ll eat some small amount more of yesterday’s ice cream truck dessert: coconut ice cream, coconut shreds, and pineapple slices.

Followed perhaps by a nice Single Malt.

Oo, I wish I were there. I’d hang a sign:

It’s 90º.
You’re next.
–God

Just finished dinner (at a quarter past 17 o’clock). Branzino fillets with kosher salt and Italian seasoning, and Mexican-style riced cauliflower.

I got an email from El Jefe today:

Over the last several days (actually months), [Account Executive] has been working diligently and feverishly with [company] and the various divisions it has sold off in recent years to keep a major, multiyear credit reporting contract in place. She received word this afternoon that the last of all the pieces has fallen into place and a collection of three year contracts valued at nearly $1.4 million have been approved. All of the existing contracts had the potential to disappear because of new people and new organizations. But, she kept them all in place. In the words of Harry Wayne Casey, “That’s the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it, uh huh uh huh…”

Now, in the words of Alan Jackson joined by the late, great Jimmy Buffett: It’s 5:00 somewhere. Time to celebrate. Click here and turn it up: Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett - It’s Five O’ Clock Somewhere (Official HD Video) - Bing video. Then go home and celebrate.

So to celebrate, I’ve made a Vieux Carré, which I’m almost finished with.

I have very many words about those hateful people but none of them belong here. Please know that I am thinking them really hard.

Hubs once used my fabric scissors to strip wires and I kicked him right in the wallet, i.e. made him pay for the replacement scissors. He was seriously shocked when he learned how much he was going to have to spend which was much better lesson than me just bitching at him and buying new ones without involving him in the process. There are at least 20 cheap plastic handled scissors scattered around our little place to make it easier for him to find some when he needs them.

Now, in Mom’s defense, she did bake a birthday cake for me in June and cake tends to make everything better!

Hubs put tennis balls on FIL’s walker which made a big difference in the catch on everything problem.

I am SO happy you were able to sleep, not so happy that you are still in pain though.

I really did think you were smarter than that!!!

And handsome as well!

I once had foot surgery that required 6 weeks off my feet. I had no idea you could die of boredom, but it almost happened. You have my sincere sympathy.

I hope you find something soon, working for crazy people never ends well.

You are a good slave. When we first got laminate floors, a couple of our cats thought they were lava for weeks. Our little black drama queen learned how to do burnouts and drift around corners.

So, today was surplus produce day and we got peaches, LOL!!!

I’ve already made jam and chutney so now I’m going to start freezing them.

We also got a big bag of broccoli, much of which has been blanched and filled a gallon freezer bag for later. We got nice corn onna cob, most of which has also been frozen for later. As long as I was heating up the kitchen, I whacked up the carrots and blanched and froze them as well. The sweet potatoes are going to be turned into pie tomorrow, I was running out of dishwasher room by that time.

Of course I put some aside for NF but will need to take it to her place (along with some super yummy fudge) because she’s out of town and won’t be at TC tomorrow. Her hub won’t let her find out about the fudge, LOL!

I’ve been driving to the next town to do TC because it was closer for NF, so I went to TC this morning at the local library. TC friend is afraid that nobody will be at tomorrow’s class because her other students were having scheduling problems, so I guess I’ll be doing TC tomorrow too!

Our tree planters wanted us to get blue staked (811-call before you dig) despite us knowing where everything is, so I contacted them on Friday. Two of the utilities have already responded and now everyone knows we are going to be doing something because the blue stake people paint their lines on the ground. The folks who have asked me what we are doing have sounded pretty happy about more trees in the neighborhood. The County Anti-Development Services guy showed up with a ticket book because we didn’t have a permit posted, but too bad jerkface, we don’t have to have a permit for trees.

Well, I see doggio is posting and I want to hear how the tie worked out, so hands the mic over.

I do tend to forget how used to these people I have got over the last thirty years. Even my dad, who was very conservative and not what we would call woke, made jokes about them. If his church got picketed by them he would say “We got the varsity today” or at other times he would say they just got the B team. Back when there were enough of them that especially on Sundays they would split up to spread the hate around.

Up from naptime, having a martini, salad, and cheese tortellini with meatballs for dinner.

He prefers Manhattans. Also the collar does not fit, because somebody has a fat neck.

I licked my lips, and ran my fingers along the spine, the skin supple against it, I wet my finger, grinned, and flipped the Bible open to Psalm 49…

Well, next weeks first reading is from The Book of Armaments.

Congrats on the end of the Vieux Carré and the continuaton of the contracts

A former boyfriend used to throw me a half birthday party in June. Everybody was in on the gag and brought me things like one earring (someone else brought the other), a cup, another a saucer, etc. It was always more fun to celebrate in warm weather.

Had just finished getting the garbage all collected and ready to go when the rains came. Will wait about a half-hour when it is due to break and then move the stuff out to the curb.

You forgot to add the ‘wink, wink, nudge, nudge’…

red, hope the work poli-ticks settles down and leaves you alone. And have to laugh at the ‘half-birthday’ party.

wet one, congrats on the new floor.

Cupcakes, I will say nothing about the WBC because they don’t allow that language outside the pit. Suffice it to say they are not my favorite people.

Indeed.

Flyboy, at least you have a boss with a sense of humor and who shares information with the masses; that is fairly rare in my experience.

JtC, bet Hubs still has that scissors price memorized; good learning tool. Enjoy the food and the friends.

OK, sounds like the storm has moved on along, so need to get the garbage out to the curb and then do the evening reading. Take care all.

(also transferring my reply from old thread)

It’s probably just as well that Chick-fil-A’s Caramel Crumble shake is a limited-time offering. Those could get addictive.

I’ve encountered tasty peach shakes at several places.

That is so sweet! And sounds like a lot of fun, too. I still have to remind hubs every year, LOL.

When I’m at needlework seminars or gem shows and such and see something I never saw before but now can’t live without, I buy it and bring it home and wrap it in either birthday or Christmas paper and put it on the top shelf in my closet. This lets hubs give me something I really want but is still a surprise because I don’t know what box he’s going to pick.

I just asked him and he instantly told me he didn’t touch any metal handled scissors, so I guess the lesson soaked in. And yes, he remembered to the penny!

I pick up the surplus produce boxes because I like mystery boxes and also to help keep perfectly good food out of the landfill because that is where it will go next. Processing produce for later is something I enjoy doing and makes me feel like an Earth Goddess  Plus…we think it tastes better than commercially processed food. I suspect a lot of that is because we like to know what we are eating.

I haven’t had a milk shake in I can’t remember how long. I was raised during the time that milk shakes were made with ice cream and milk and got too spoiled to buy them from fast food places when they arrived and then forgot to buy them at nice places because of habit.

Now I want a peach shake and I will have to wait until tomorrow because its way too late to start making ice cream tonight. Humpf.

GG finally managed to open the Good Things cabinet again. He’s big enough to easily reach the lever handle and he did it once a few months ago, but his 2 anna half brain cells just didn’t make enough of a connection for memory to spark the next time he wanted treats. Hubs and I have agreed to be extra sure we close the door completely because we probably didn’t.

At least this time he didn’t chew up the treat bags, he found our stash of fuzzy balls and wore himself out chasing them around. New fuzzy balls are much more fun than used ones.

Happy Toosday!

Happy Birthday Vrooom!

Happy Birthday FCDaughter!

It’s hot again today, close to 90 and supposed to get up near 100 tomorrow.
I have nowhere to go anyway, not that I could if I wanted to.
Even if I wasn’t hurting, I think I shouldn’t drive with the drugs I’m taking.
i have just enough cash on hand for my son to take a cab every day this week.

My back kept me up most of the night. Sitting is the only comfortable position.
I had trouble sitting up again, and I didn’t want to call for my son to help me because he has to irk tonight and I don’t want to interrupt his sleep.
I’d like to go downstairs but I’m still leery of the stairs.
Sliding down on my butt is probably not a good idea. I could try walking down backwards, then if I fall forward, I won’t fall far.
I think I may wait until tomorrow to try.

The poor GR. They are so bored. They stay by me all day with occaisional potty breaks. It’s really too hot for them to be outside anyway, but a morning trip to the park would be good for them.
Echo is depressed, she looks kind of deflated. She is sociable and staying home isn’t good for her.

Still nothing on the truck.
I called and left a VM.
Tomorrow will be four weeks.
They just called. They found the wires and fixed them. They took it for a test drive and it was fine. They took it for another test drive and it was fine. Thet were ready to call me and the tech said, let me take it one more time. It blew up again.
At least they now know it is in the wiring. They weren’t chewed, nothing I did, it just is.
For the last few months, I have been getting emails asking me to come in and see what deal I could get on a new truck. I know they just want my money, but there was a little voice in my head that said, go check it out. Of course, I thought it would be stupid to trade it in and gt something new at this point.
I should have listened to that little voice.
It has never steered me wrong.

One time I was sitting at a light. There were entrances to parking lots on both sides of me. A little voice said, turn here. I looked up and saw the sign for the store I was looking for, so I turned into the parking lot. I parked my truck and as I was getting out of my truck, I heard a crash.
Somebody had run the light and pushed a car into the car that had been in front of me at the light, and pushed that car into the car that had been behind me at the light.
Had I not turned, it would have been my truck that got hit.
I should know better by now.
That little voice has kept me out of trouble many times.
Another time in HS, my two friends, A and B were fighting. I was doing my best not to get involved, but I thought B was being a little shit to A. One day they both asked me to go to lunch with them, and I started to go with A, since B was being shitty. The little voice said, don’t go, so I went to lunch with B instead. A was going with a group and one of the guys in the group had a bag of weed on him. When one of the administrators was walking towards them, he panicked and threw the weed into a bush. Which the administrated saw, and pulled it out. The entire group got suspended, parents called, all the BS that goes along with it.
So glad I listened to the little voice.

I’m sorry about all the itching Nellie.
I do think my body is saying ‘enough, I need some rest’.

Will for sure be getting Sah-Son and others to help this week, MetalMouse.

Happy Hump Day!

I need to catch up
Reading has been difficult because I read that one of the drugs I’m taking can make your vision blurry.

I took the wrong drug at the wrong time today.
I called the dr so see what to do and of course I got the VM
I looked it up online and read to call the poison control center, which I did.
All good, just skip next dose.
The dr office called hours later.

The seller’s friend asked if it was okay for him to check the mailbox today, and of course I’m okay with it.
The lawn mower was delivered today and I asked if he could put it in the backyard if it was there. He took care of it for me, nice since it meant I didn’t have to ask a friend to go over. He said I had some mail, don’t know who would be sending it, and he left that in the garage with the lawnmower.
No idea why the garage door was open.

I’m tired my eyes are burning the GR are bugging me to go to bed

She kinda half-apologized when I pulled up (I was clearly laughing) but I pointed to the Scrib’s emblem on my shirt.

She mentioned being open to doing a food trade. Note to self: must get her name next time & mention to my mngr.

Every other over-testosterone’d dude-bro with a diesel has a plow attachment 'round here. So far, the absolute worst? Coupla hours when it was difficult to go in/out my driveway (it has a bit of an incline) but the main roads have never been impassable and even the side streets are in good shape quickly.

Now, once things thaw and then ice back up now that’s a whole different navigation problem. But plows can’t help - only salt/sand, and sun.

Good point about the weed, though.

Ah, public transportation. You do meet some interesting people.

(How was the PowerPoint? Think he’ll get an “A”?)

That sounds like a lovely itinerary. Enjoy!

Curtains with lots of folds help tremendously. Even if you have blinds already, hang up some pretty fabric - or hell, go medieval and hang tapestries!

Woman, I do love your style.

I don’t know if he posts here, but over in the “Dinner Tonight” thread, one of our fellow Dopers has been grilling peaches every night for dessert.

Also, this:

That is SUCH a sweet idea! Takes some coordination, but I love the humor behind it.

That’s also really sweet. Gets him off the hook for a big fight, and you still (eventually) get your goodies.

Your cat’s a bigger pothead than you are - you know that, right?

It amused me that after we closed tonight, I watched my manager hightail it directly to Taco Bell.

What else … ? OH! There was one caller, who placed his pizza order (okay, slightly slurred his order) then asked to add a liter of Coke.

“Sorry, we have 20 oz or 2 liter.”
“Uuhhmmm …” { cue VERRRY lengthy thoughtfulness } “Ah, I’ll just drink the beer I got.”
“Oh. Okay.”

Finally, in “gossip I have GOT to find out deets about” the BBQ joint across the street where I used to work? The hellhole that stole tips, where three other people quit the day I finally walked, where exactly one last member of my old crew still hung on?

… guess who’s closed as of today?

They seemed to run a normal shift last night. I watched them close. (Hey, we were slow! I was bored! Has nothing at all to do with us hooking up a coupla times a while back.) The only odd thing was a Facebook post by that last Stockholm syndrome guy over the weekend, shilling that they were running a sale … and he NEVER posts work stuff.
Didn’t think much of it at the time, but it’s fallen into place now.

I don’t care outside of nosy scintillating gossip, but … okay, yeah, I’m dying to know what happened.

Aaaand on that note, my pot pie is ready.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

But it can you promoted to Senior Shouting Officer at any number of companies.

So does the little voice have any opinion on N.C. next week, or Powerball numbers?
But hope you feel better, the truck gets fixed, and the critters get over their cabin fever.

“Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.” - Ezekiel 22:31(they want Old Testament wrath, I’ll give 'em Old Testament wrath)

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 22c/72f with a predicted high of 27c/80f and cloudy. Weather app wishes to console me over the temperatures and says “Fucker, be cool. It’s warm, but it ain’t fucking hot. You’ll be ok.” I hope so, we have all the windows open in the office but it’s still very hot and stuffy.

All this talk of peaches reminds me of a band I saw more years ago than I care to remember, called Famous Potatoes…this would be an appropriate ditty, I think: Peach Pickin’ Time

I am too hot and it’s a struggle to brain properly today. Possibly not a good day to delve into freshers module options but the job must be done, and therefore I must do it. Got a meeting in half an hour with one of my minions, and a lunch date with a friend so that will break up the day a bit.

shoe funny you should mention mittens, I was just thinking the same thing when I wrote my last post. Far too hot for mittens though, I will just have to struggle though.

nellie yay for a good night’s sleep!

Right…off to do something productive until it’s meeting time.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. There is also a chance of rain late afternoon/early evenin’. We shall see. Mowage is the big plan of the day. Beyond that there will be sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. Maybe even some quality cee-mint pond time. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of stuff for sammiches along with chips and so forth.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Is that anything like pot brownies??

I got FCD to look at the back of my left leg/knee last night and he said it was covered with what looked like bug bites, not a rash. Little nasties must have noshed on me while I was cutting the firewood. A combination of lotion on the dry skin and hydrocortisone on the bites helped a lot. But I did wake once feeling an impending cramp in one foot. As soon as I stood up for a couple of seconds, it passed. That’s been happening in recent days - is that a symptom of being dehydrated? Maybe I should drink more water and see.

FCD’s phone is supposed to be delivered today, even tho the latest update is from midnight yesterday. I will be so pissed if I sit around the house all day and it doesn’t show up. Not that I have anywhere to go, but it’s just the idea… We did pay extra for expedited delivery.

The heat wave keeps getting pushed farther into next week - today was supposedly the end of it in a forecast last week, but not any longer. Dammit. I’m tired of the hot. I want autumn!!! < stamping little feet and waving little fists > I did talk to the folks I ordered my pellets from - we should get our delivery in a couple of weeks. They’re trying to coordinate with another customer who lives in this area, since the company is a couple of counties away. It’s not a biggie to me, other than I need to clear the area in the garage for the 2 pallets and I’ve been putting that off…

And so begins the day. We shall see what adventures await.

Happy Thursday!

Mornin all - Started balconatin’ an hour pre-dawn today and still am. It’s 80F/27C w a gentle breeze and delightful out here in the waning darkness. By some miracle nothing went wrong at irk last night and here I set as yet unmolested. We’ve got a thin overcast that’s doing the flame-red embers thing out over the water as twilight continues. Sunrise is still 20 minutes away now and the colors are just starting to bleach out.

That is sweet! And fun in a creative way. Or is that creative in a fun way?

Her Ladyship sees no point in celebrating anniversaries of any kind, not even birthdays. She’d consider half-birthdays positively insane or pitifully juvenile. Good thing she’s cute.

I used to love peach shakes. Peach anything actually. Speaking of peaches and shaking:

If sleep is important for him, why isn’t it important for you, young lady?

It sure is. Please, please heed it. The only thing worse than The Revenge of the Body-Snatchers is The Revenge of the Body. You don’t want that.

Glad to know you’re a girl with your priorities on straight.

As to the BBQ joint, the only good hellhole is a dead hellhole. Hope the owner (or was it the manager?) ends up bankrupt over what they did to you & the other workers. Maybe Mr. Stockholm syndrome is in the mood for another hook-up or three now that he’s got more free time.

Two pellets of pallets? Whatever for, Moom? What sort of pellets? What sort of pallets?
