(Old) Buddying With Allies in the MMP

So today it was slide/table/load Bottom Green(1 truck). The Supreme Shouting Officer was shout on the radio from somewhere in the building. They are cutting down all the trees between the employee lot and the warehouse next door. I don’t know if they were diseased or not, but watching them get chopped up and shredded almost made me want to scream “I STAND WITH THE LORAX!”, and start heaving Molotovs. I did my Senior Day shopping, got beer and coffee. And a few less important things.

Throw in some Jameson, because it’s St. Patrick’s Day somewhere.

Beats sliding directly into advance decrepitude.

La Jefa decreed that henceforth, everyone will work from home Mondays and Fridays, and come into the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Except for me and the Account Executives. We’ll just come in once a month for the staff meetings.

The Spousal Unit is just out the door to see today’s patients. She’s been looking at homes for sale in Italy, because of the Charlie Foxtrot of a government we have, and the direction this country is going. She says she needs to look up whether we can collect Social Security in Italy. (She was originally looking at Uruguay, but I pointed out the advantages of Italy.)

The infection behind my implant is still sore. The periodontist said to rinse with warm salt water and take ibuprofen. Tried that yesterday. I’ll try some more today.

things are getting more blocked off. sadly they have blocked the really nifty portal thing. they had it covered and blocked off for the conference game and super bowl. the portal is in a really good location for the parade, really unfortunate that they couldn’t have it running. it would have been nice for poland, ireland, and lithuania to see the parade.

Well, crap. Instead of roughly breaking even on state/federal taxes, I had to file an amended return because I received a 1099R after I’d filed, and it apparently pushed us into a higher bracket. So our total owed to both Feds and State was close to $6K. I am not a happy camper.

I don’t mind paying my share, but it sucks that it’s so hard to figure that out so that it’s withheld thru the year rather than pummeling me all at once. Dammit.

Car’s cleared off.

Gonna get Special Co-worker in about an hour, wearing mah no-shit boots & bringing a change of shoes, cuz I’m not stomping around a slippery floor in a hot-ass kitchen for hours while wearing f’ing (faux)fur-lined boots.

And also bringing, sigh, a salad.

I … could get T.P. before work. And while I’m there, maybe hunt down some sliced deli meat or cheese or something less … { sigh } than a salad.

I’ve packed two slices of less-than-youthful leftover marble cake.

This will no doubt offset the … { sigh } salad.

for a moment i thought you were going to substitute the deli meat or cheese for tp. wow! that would be fancy.

Kinda messy, too.

 Today was a very long day and your post is definitely warming the cockles of my heart.

Okay, I learned something today. I never knew there were places that had sirens for plowing. Last week was the annual Swiss Siren test, which even got a new cute commercial this year: 2025 Siren Test.

I didn’t grow up with sirens, so I still find them fun. And I’ve never had one go off during to a real emergency.

I did, but I couldn’t really search as well as I would have liked, so there’s still hope. To do a proper search I need natural light. I remember seeing it recently, because I was thinking about opening the card to see what I wrote. I wish I had. :frowning:

For less that $5. Same thing here would be 3x the price and probably half as good. Enjoy!

I’m so sorry for your losses. :people_hugging:

Didn’t sleep well last night and had to get up 30 minutes early to go to the dentist. Escaped the dentist’s office unscathed and then went to work. Ended up staying at the office 1.5 hours later than normal. I don’t have to compensate the time lost due to the dentist’s office 1:1, but it seems that’s what I did today. Getting home at 8:00 is a bit late, as it’s now 9:00 and we haven’t settled down yet. Good thing tomorrow’s Friday.

Well, I screwed up. Our Visa wasn’t compromised - I just failed to look in the right place in my Amazon account. So tomorrow I’m supposed to get a callback from the fraud folks and I need them to allow the charge. I can’t believe I blew it.

Oh well.

Just not my day.

Got a package from Free Spirits today, with a bottle of Bourbon-like substance and a bottle of faux gin. Life, such as it is, is good. I have the Beatles Channel going on Sirius XM. The snow stopped, and it’s sunny out.

Kitten Mitten, I have a memory from a while back of hearing tornado sirens go off on a summer day. I walked outside to see if I could see anything that looked like a tornado. Then I noticed all my neighbors were also outside rubbernecking instead of seeking shelter. We all started to laugh at the same time. Though I have always lived in “Tornado Alley,” I’ve never actually seen one. Not that I’m complaining.

I live in the boonies, but in town they do odd-even parking. Odd days of the month you can park on the odd side of the street, etc. Out where I am, I’m just happy if the “thing at the end of the driveway” isn’t too big.

Big winds out there tonight, I hope most of the recycling stays in the bin.

Another good day at the museum, I got several “welcome aboard’s.” I have my official onboarding next week. I feel a little weird about this new job. I was originally coming in to cover for a guy who was taking a sabbatical for…what’s the word…having a child. And actually making the place more efficient. But a different guy in the department died. Fuck cancer.

And I should, theoretically, have a new to me car tomorrow.

JtC The dogs look great at Hillbilly. And way cheaper than the Wienery. But the Oreo stout shake is great.

My condo complex’s weight room has been shut down for renovation the past three weeks. It’s reopening tomorrow.

I realize that restarting my exercise routine would have vast benefits for me physically, mentally, and emotionally.

BUT I DON’T WANNA. I WANNA BE LAZY.

They are three different viruses. Flu and Covid are constantly mutating which is why we need boosters designed for the latest strain. RSV has stayed the same over the years so once your immune system has learned about it, it doesn’t have to adapt to a different mutation.

Or, that is how I understand it. I am not medically trained so don’t take my word on anything!

How much did your time of no gym put you back? You were doing great, I hope it won’t take you long to recover.

I still haven’t been able to break 700 yards and now I’m going to have to start all over again.

Here’s hoping you weather the storm without damage. While we were out today we saw some very big trees on the ground. No smooshed homes, though.

Sounds like you are starting to get this acting like an adult thing!!!

I’m really glad you are able to really rest. I hope you were able to read, shoulders can be weird because of the way everything connects.

Continue to rest and recover. Doctor’s orders, you know!

At least you are getting some magical sky water. Has wildfire season taken a break in your neck of the woods? I hear AZ has been burning since well before we left.

I am so very sorry. Cancer sucks.

Can you get someone out to repair it? I hope you don’t have to replace it, things like that have gotten stoopid expensive in the last couple of weeks.

May I say that I am not nearly as impressed with your building maintenance as I could be.

I’m sure you will have help!

I went outside when it was -2. The fuzzbutts refused to have anything to do with me when I came back in because my hands got so cold.

You’ve made the national news! I hope you are well stocked up cause the news makes it sound like the entire city will be blocked off.

I had no idea they still make them. I always vote for the chocolate!

I’m so happy for you! Snow is awesome!

Way back when, I worked for a guy who owned half a dozen dice restaurants. Part of my job was to go to each store and inventory the walk-in freezers. They were of course, very cold, so I’d put my snow gear on in the parking lot and then almost die of the heat while walking through the store to the freezer.

I’m so sorry. Watching trees get murdered is always so distressing.

Fingers crossed that it is there or maybe wedged under the seat behind the rails.

Moving from a High Cost of Living area to a LCOL area does have some advantages! It was a bit of a drive for hotdogs, but it is a landmark for one of his games (Fallout 76, I think) so he wanted to take pictures. I would like to go back when it warms up, they have a patio area on top of a bus that would allow one to look over the river while eating lunch.

The dogs were good and the toppings were plentiful. The fries were crispy and had just the right amount of grease and salt.

Yeah, that would be kinda embarrassing. Dang about the taxes too. We also try to keep it so we only have a hundred dollars owed or refunded.

I am so happy that things are looking up for you! Last year wasn’t great for you, you deserve a super good year this time around!

I know just how you feel. It’s so much fun to be a RDOS that inertia takes over.

So may I be the first one to say “GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUTT AND WORK IT OFF!”

Please feel free to say the same to me next week when the gym opens again.

Howdy Y’all! The duct cleanin’ folk were here for almost five hours. We have clean ducts and shiny new cover thingys. After they left, we decided to get stoner food for sup, so instead of chikin nachos, we went to Cook Out and got food to bring back to da cave.

{{{Hippie}}} so sorry for your loss! I can’t imagine how hard it must be to process the loss of two loved ones like that.

Sensei glad daughter is safe and sound in Germany.

shoe I am aghast! Have you learned nuttin’ from me about the importance of havin’ plenty of tp on hand. Or in hand dependin’ on the situation.

VanGo huzzah for the new ride!

This has me puzzled.

Domino’s

I’m trying to be charitable. Since our long-time maintenance guy retired, we’ve been through at least four iterations of replacements, all of whom have run for the hills as soon as they get a better offer, or have just quit out of exasperation. The HVAC system has been jury-rigged over the years to compensate for building pressure, so any new maintenance guy is immediately at a disadvantage. They have to bring in the retired guy to show the new guys where the pitfalls are each time, what dampers have to stay closed so the elevators will work, etc. If the elevators sense too much pressure against the doors, they won’t open/close.

I’m so sorry, hippy. Hugs to you and your family.

Dang, Moooooom, I’d be torked too.

Appendages crossed.

TGIT!

Irked, came home, walked Nelson, napped, et and am now surfing. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up from naptime. I dreamed some random neighbor in my old Durham neighborhood was pissed at me for reasons, so he sent a black panther to attack me, Spot, and one of my friend’s Maltese(the panther sucked at it). I’m up, having a Mai Tai, smoked Paprika chicken, and cheesy potatoes. Watching hockey.

Indeed.

Considering how many times your card has been hacked, you reacted correctly. “It’s not paranoia if everyone is out to get you.”

Dunno. I’ve taken a multivitamin for years, and I still don’t act like an adult.

Evening all. Spent several hours at the Drs. office, 97% of it sitting, 2.99% interacting with the medical personnel, and 0.01% peeing into a cup. Results should be available in about a week or so. So of course today my bladder decided to act average, 6 trips to the ter-lit and less that 1500ml produced today. Might have something to do with my fasting (didn’t know if they would draw blood or not) for 5 hours before (and then 3 hours there), so came home and ate and drank quite a bit. Then went to the gym for 600 calories of repentance and am now in for the night Down to 31F and heading for a low of 26F, so glad all that rain earlier in the week was outta here.

shoe, there are times I envy your work, nice and warm…and then I look at myself and figure I’d last maybe 2-3 hours before breaking down, so enjoy.

Never developed a taste for them.

Aye, there’s the rub… And ouch on the tax owed. Think I mentioned I owed over a $1,000, but the Ali-bama state refund will cover most of it…I hope.

Flyboy, glad you still have the WFH exemption. And Italy? That’s a fair distance and that government might not be a whole lot better than we perceive ours to be, but I trust you know best.

Dicey, that’s a cute commercial. We have tornado/storm sirens here, they usually test them at noon every Wednesday, it makes for a nice way to see if your clocks are accurate…

Knots, Booze and the Beatles; sounds like life is indeed good.

VanGo, waiting to hear about the new set of wheels.

I hear ya. After getting back from hernia surgery, it took me a week or so to get back into the habit again, and even now I’m doing about 70% of what I had been doing.

See above, before I was doing almost 2 miles of swimming (in several stages) and burning about 1200+ calories on the cycles/treadmills. About 1,600 yards (just under a mile)in the pool and 600-800 calorie burn in the gym. I could go higher but am still babying the hernia incision, plus I have it in my head that the high workload i was doing to reach 200lbs may have had something to do with the damage. So moderation is my ethic now, but am slowly increasing the level.

Florida Panthers???

And to all a good night. Catch up on Firday (it’s Firday already?).
