(Old) Buddying With Allies in the MMP

Lots of sugary stuff at work today (including the whole-ass slice of cheesecake I brought for myself) so I’m having Triscuits and lotsa cheese now, to get some protein into me.

Coupla slices of prosciutto, too, cuz I’m bougie like that, but mostly, smoked Gouda and brie, to balance out my day.

Plus a palmful of toasted sesame seeds - straight up, just like that - because I’ve loved them since I was a little kid.

… and a multivitamin.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 2c/36f with a predicted high of 4c/39f and partly cloudy. Weather app says " See those fucking clouds up there? They fucking hate you." I have no idea why the clouds would hate me, they’re just up there, doing their own thing.

Very sensible, especially if you have to appease the cat for your prolonged absence. It’s a shame the dental surgery may not happen, but best to be indoors and safely warm.

I hope your building management fixed the heating!

I have three seasons of Longmire to work through  We get a lot of re-runs of Midsomer Murders, along with Bergerac and more recently, Brokenwood Mysteries. There’s one channel that almost permanently has Law & Order and NCIS too. Plenty of mindless stuff out there, and I also have a big pile of books if I can find a comfortable position to sit and read.

Fabulous! And a new washing machine out of it as well? Result!

Awww…they are so adorable!

Sensei It’s hard letting go, but I’m sure SenGirl will have an amazing trip.

So you should be!

Oopsie sadly I don’t have patience, space or finances for Lego :rofl::rofl:

Despite the jetlag and all, I hope you get to explore Bergen, it’s a beautiful city. I am very envious of your trip, I spent a bit of time working in Norway many years ago, loved the place and the people.

Not much to tell you today, since I am practicing to be an RDOS. I went to the pub last night with friends, didn’t have to think about what time I got home because the alarm was off this morning. I have fed and medicated the mogs, cleaned litter trays, had breakfast and had a brief conversation with the postie who has just delivered a couple of packages.

I have no plans for the day, I think I’ll try reading for a bit and see if holding either book or Kindle aggravates my shoulder. I’ve had my meds this morning, don’t need to take any more until tonight so reading, cat-snuggling, tellybox and tea seems to be my future. 'im indoors is due home tonight so I’ll see if he wants me to pick him up from the station - it’s a short drive but I’m sure I’ll be able to manage that. Might go out for a walk later too, I walked to the doc’s yesterday through the park near here and a bit of greenery will do me good.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and stormy with a predicted high of 71 and stormy through the mornin’ and then cloudy the rest of the day. The a/c folk are supposed to be out around nineish to clean out the ductwork in da cave. Don’t know if stormy weather will prevent that, so I reckon we’ll see. That’s the big planned excitatement of the day. We shall be our usual RDOS selves. Sup will be chikin nachos due to a request from spoiled brat.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Rainy and windy here. Yay.

Saturday my niece Carol passed from esophageal cancer. She was 64. Tuesday my niece Candie passed from lung cancer. She was 66. It has been hard to process.

SenGirl is in Germany! She got the eSim settings right. A few days before she left, she signed up for a new account with the service I always use, and got a free eSim for limited data but she could use in Japan. She was able to practice switching back and forth between the normal Sim and eSim so she didn’t have any problems once she was there. She was able to contact her host family.

She made it through immigration in Munich and is waiting for her flight to Berlin. At least she’s in the right country and in contact with the hosts. I may be able to sleep tonight.

Oh, my goodness. That is, indeed, a lot heaped on at once.

My absolutely sincerest condolences to your whole family.

That is a lot to take in all at once. My sincerest condolences to you and your entire family.

That is a lot to take in. I’m sorry for you and your family.

Progress!

Dang, Hippie - what an awful double wallop! Hugs to you and the rest of the family.

It’s somewhat foggy here this morning, and we might see 50° (down from an earlier prediction of 60-ish.) I’ve already turned off the pellet stove in anticipation of giving it a good cleaning. Its heat output has been rather pathetic and I’m thinking it’s because of ash accumulation in its guts. So I’ll bring up the shop vac, scoop out what I can by hand, then clean out as much of the remaining ash as I can. I’ve got an awful feeling that it might be getting ready to die on us, because everything else is crapping out.

We bought it in Oct 2012 and apparently the expected lifespan is 10-15 years. And I did a little research - it says burning wood is generally less expensive than pellets. So we may be looking at replacing it with a wood-burning insert. Surely firewood won’t be as expensive as pellets are.

I need to run to Food Lion - I think I’ll go there first and let the stove cool down more. Then come home and attack the ash. Plus the dishwasher needs to be emptied. And there’s probably other stuff to do. There’s always other stuff to do.

I got an email from a Navy friend - someone I was stationed with from '74-'76. We’re going to meet for lunch on Moanday. I can’t remember the last time I saw her - which is really stupid - she lives in Alexandria and this is the closest we’ve lived to each other since I left San Diego. She’s been there for years and we’ve only gotten together maybe 3 times since I’ve lived here. So we’ll see if we reconnect or if our paths have diverged too much in the last 50 years. :open_mouth:

And I just looked at my calendar - between Feb 26 and Mar 26, I have an eye appointment, a cardiologist appt, and a dental appt. Plus on Feb 18, I go back to the podiatrist to get my toe looked at again. Is this my life now - one Dr appt after another?? Sheesh.

But for now, it’s shower. dress, and groceries.

Happy Thursday!

Well. . .for varying values of “fixed”. We had ours on high all night and I’m still sitting here in a sweatshirt this morning, with a space heater running full bore. Sadie slept up near the head of the bed instead of her usual perch at the foot. Body heat, doncha know. It’s -9F as I write this and the heating system just can’t keep up in these corner apartments. Meanwhile, down the hall people are sweating buckets. I may have to turn the oven on for a bit.

Did some shopping yesterday. An 18 pack of eggs was just north of $11. All the employees seemed to be in a foul frame of mind. I wonder if they’re catching shit from customers or if management is on their case about something. They’re usually pleasant.

Made hamburger stroganoff last night, which I haven’t had in probably 50 years. Real comfort food. Croissant sandwiches on tap for breaking of the fast.

It’s still snowing, enough to bring the clearance crew. Mrs. Nott is about to take a package to the Post Office, 'cause she sold something. I’m off to find breakfast. See you later.

Hippie, I am very sorry for the losses of your nieces.

Snowed yesterday. The cold sets in next week. Several days of maybe double digits, definitely one day of single digits. I think I’m gonna hibernate.

the snow is mostly gone, and it is misty and rainy in philly. prep goes on for the parade. more closures are being announced. businesses and roads.

i showed pictures of the crowd and the huge amount of trash left in the wake of the last eagle parade; to a fellow shuttle rider. sanitation workers are going to have a lot of overtime this weekend.

Good morning all. Glad I got the trash bin out last night, the garbage truck came by about 8am and I wouldn’t have made it out it in time this morning. At least I’ve collected it and put it back in the garage so I have been a responsible citizen. Just finished the morning apple and will pour myself a big bowl O’Cereal here in a little bit. Dr. Appointment is at 2pm and also need to put some gas in the car, so those are the major goals for today. Definitely cooled, 38F now and only getting to 43F later in the day.

Hippie, that is a tragic double-punch in the gut, take care. Cancer really sucks.

That’s an odd policy…IMHO of course.

Sensei, glad daughter-unit is in Germany and should have made connections with the host family by now. That’s a long way to travel alone at her age, but glad you have good communication connections with her.

FCM, happy ash-cleaning day. And hope the re-connect goes well. And know what you mena, have seen my Doctor twice this year already and haven’t even had my annual checkup yet.

Stay warm, Cookie.

He chose…wisely…

And time for cereal; I have Cheerios, Corn Flakes, and Cocoa Krispies to choose from…decisions, decisions… Have a good Thorsday all.

Lotsa fluffy white stuff here in western Mitten State … aaaaaand now I want an Oreo.

An elementary school class pet was a black-and-white whorled guinea pig named Oreo. I got to take him home over Christmas break … such a privilege!

My mom’s Polish accent was even stronger then, and she simply could. not. pronounce. the creature’s name. It came out like a gutteral growl.

Man, I haven’t even thought about Oreo (the class pet) in decades.

Lucky Charms. Duh.

The Oracles predict much more of the fluffy stuff over the next week or so, with a lovely 8F (!!) cold snap early next week.

My mom texted me yesterday, informing me that we were getting winter weather ( :expressionless: ) and worrying that I’d be cold while at work.

Shared a chuckle over that one with S.M. when I got in yesterday, as we stood together in front of 4 roaring ovens. (“I feel like perhaps I have not adequately described my work environment to this woman …”)
There’s also 3 warmer boxes, a space heater by the drive-thru window, and a sub toaster oven which actually works again. (It was out of commission for so long, we got used to using it to stash drink bottles.)

Staying warm isn’t the biggest problem at work, for sure.

Meanwhile, finishing off a mini can of whomp croissants, plus MOAR CHEESE, for breakfast.

Must stop by the Gettin’ Sto’ extremely soon-ish, since I am on my LAST roll of T.P. and folks, I live dangerously sometimes but this is pushin’ it to the max.

Don’t let me forget, I have a Healthy Salad ™ to bring to work.

But we’re gonna be bored, and idle, so I forsee gummy bears and such in my near future as well.

People can be such slobs! I went to a rally in DC hosted by Jon Stewart, and as they were wrapping up, they asked everyone to take their trash to the trash cans - and just about everyone did. Maybe the Eagles should do the same?

I’m sure it comes down to $$$. I live in a county with one of the highest county tax rates, but we get what we pay for in terms of snow prep/clearing, road maintenance, trimming back trees around power lines, the libraries, the senior centers, and probably lots of other stuff I’m not thinking of. People bitch about taxes, but if they think about what those dollars pay for…

The pellet stove is clean and running again. The air is coming out much faster - we’ll see if it heats better. I could only vacuum so much since I can’t roll it out - lacking the proper tools. But I scraped and brushed and vacuumed and scrubbed and cleaned the icky window. Here’s hoping it warms us up, since the furnace has been burning much more oil than we’re used to using.

Time to put dishes away, I guess. Always something.

i am so sorry. may their memories be eternal.
