(Old) Buddying With Allies in the MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s rainy and 34 degrees Ferret Height(1.67 Centipedes).

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and cloudy/windy for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. We will also attend the Wednesday doin’s over to the church house. I am told we will have fried catfish and other stuff. Hope it’s good. This is a thing that is either really good or really bad. We shall squeeze it some RDOS inactivities durin’ the afternoon.

BBBoo smart move to stay inside and out of the evil white stuff.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Alas!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Same for FCD, tho he’s OK answering the phone and conversing that way. He just hates initiating calls for the most part.

It’s not even that warm in the house - well, possibly right in front of the pellet stove…

And it’s a little difficult to tell how much snow we got. I actually opened the garage door and stuck my finger into the snow right by the house - maybe 3". But looking at the grassy areas, it’s more. Of course, the accumulation started on the grass sooner than on the pavement, and I think we got some rain, which would have beat it down a bit. Anyway, it’s very white and cold out there, but rain is supposed to hit this afternoon into tomorrow.

The schools are closed and the base is only open for essential personnel, which means Daughter and SIL are both off - or maybe she’ll be working from the office close to her house - I don’t know what her rules are. I do know SIL kept going out to shovel their drive, trying to keep ahead of things - not sure how long he continued to do that, but good for him for being proactive. (ugh, and I hate that word.)

I think we’ve had 3 passes by plows, at least according to the county’s snow removal map. Which means there will be a mess at the end of our driveway. After I’m dressed, I’ll don my new boots and mosey down to see. Then I expect I’ll contact the snow removal guy I met last storm. We’re supposed to get rain later today but I can’t be sure it’ll be enough to wash away the snow. I guess we’ll find out eventually.

But we’ve got eggs and bread and diet coke, so we’re set!

Happy Wednesday!

-33 C this morning, with high wind chills (different sites give different values, but they’re all cold).

I’m planning on staying home with my head under the blankets.

Environment Canada’s warning:

ETA: Enviro Canada now says windchill is -45.

SenGirl left for Germany today. She’s only going for three months, but I was surprised at my feelings. Of course, I want her to have fun and a great experience, but also I’d like to keep her at home.

After zillions of warnings of all the dangers for solo travellors, real and imagined, SenWife finally let her go off into security then passport control.

How do parents let their kids leave the nest? She’s 16 but it seems like just yesterday that she was one and taking her first steps.

She’s be back in May so it won’t be that long. It’s a homestay exchange and the German girl will stay with us for three months after that.

SenBoy is enjoying being an only child, at least for now until he will realize that he’s going to have to wash dishes more often.

Has it really been that long? I remember when she was born here!

Yup, 16 years! She’s a sophomore now.

It ain’t easy. We were actually the ones to move when Daughter went to college - she was in Orlando and we moved to Merrylande. It was a great relief when she moved here, tho I still fret when she takes long drives - like when her family drove to Alabama for a funeral for one of SIL’s relatives. Thank goodness for texting - she’d let me know at each state line. Yeah, I fret too much.

FCD is insane, but I’m sure you all figured that out. He decided he had to go out to get a fountain soda this morning, and to “see what’s going on.” I’ll be surprised if McD’s is open, but then again… I stepped out to have a look at the driveway after he left tire tracks - there’s maybe 3" of wet snow, and it’s raining at the moment. I hope he’ll be OK. The man makes me crazy sometimes.

But I’m showered and dressed and I gathered household garbage, so that’s some productivity this morning. That may be it for the day. Or I may bake cookies, just because.

OMG!! The guy who helped me out in the last snow storm came by, unbidden, and started clearing our driveway. He said he assumed we were not home (he saw the tire tracks.) Luckily, FCD had some cash on him, so I was able to give the guy “gas money.”

I’m guessing he figured out we’re geezers and shoveling is a bit much for us, especially this wet, heavy stuff. So yay!

the snow disappoints again. le sigh. it does look like a winter wonderland as the snow is heavy and gloopy. walking in it is like walking in a slurpy or icee.

they are saying 3.1 inches, due to the weight and glop it doesn’t look like it.

i had some lucid dreams last night where i am dreaming, but conscience enough to question what i am dreaming. i was in my row home, and it was decorated differently, and i kept looking out at the snow, shaking my head. i also was thinking, this isn’t right, the living area is too big. there is no way this odd arraignment of furniture will work. and i kept trying to move the furniture to the proper footprint.

very weird.

i will work from home on friday. i am over the parade already; and not going out in that craziness. it took our shuttle an hour to do a half hour route. the road closures started yest. afternoon. our shuttle couldn’t get near the parkway. it has been cancelled for friday.

The vet called yesterday afternoon. Goo’s glucose is great, something else they tested was great, and her T4 (thyroid) was on the high side of normal. They want to do another thyroid test in a month, because T4 levels can fluctuate. They also suggested that if the thyroid test is still normal, an abdominal ultrasound may be in order. Problem: That costs $600 to $800. Catmom told the vet no on that.

The snow has started in no. Illinois. Just s few flakes. The prediction is 3-6 inches which is quite the range. I cancelled my H&R appt this afternoon.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/40f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “Fucking suck it, clouds!”

shoe my cat was a beautiful fluffy red tabby called Orlando (named after the book character of Orlando, the Marmalade Cat) because she was three shades of red. I usually just called her Orly. 'im indoors didn’t get the reference and called her Airport Cat.

Eventful day here, I logged into work early and dealt with a couple of things, then had a nice walk into town to the GP surgery. Saw a very nice doc who prescribed Naproxan and something else as well. I asked if she could give me a doctor’s note to work at home for a while so I did have to haul the laptop around but she said I ought to be resting my shoulder instead and gave me a note to be an RDOS for two weeks.

I went home via the pharmacy as she had sent my prescription direct to them, logged into irk, dealt with a couple more things, made a list of stuff to hand over, and put in a call with the ADHD squirrel.

Now I am on the sofa, Shadow’s on my lap, I have taken meds, and am wondering what to do with myself for two weeks!

It has been snowing here all night. It looks like a few inches. It is also bone chilling cold. We got out early and went to the gym. I got a text yesterday that my prescriptions were ready so we drove by the clinic. They were closed due to the weather

TPTB: “We’re cutting your hours because volume is down.”
Also TPTB, calling at 0430: “dogbutler, where are you?”
Me: “I’m on my way, you cut my start time back to 0500.”
TPTB: “Oh. Yeah.”
So I was being sent around all morning, putting out fires, and bit smacked with boxes. I ending up helping load the 100 Bottom Red set.
Irreg guy calling out irregs items: < calls “Bottom Red” 12 times in a row

Me, calling back, “YOU’RE KILLING US!”

Anyways, it’s cold and rainy.

I’m not even at half that(35) right now.

:open_mouth:100.

My parents gave me the avocado green couch and the orange lamps, and immediately moved out of state.
Hope SenGirl enjoys Germany.

To be fair, Sane Aunt Mary’s neighbor dropped dead in the driveway while shoveling. So he’s on to something.

Yeah, 99% of my dreams include me say to myself, “There’s something wrong with my brain to come up with this.” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

2 and a half to 3 inches here in Lincoln (60 miles west of hippie). The wind just picked up so those 3 inches are being blown around a lot and snow is still coming down. Wind chill is -13. Schools and the university are closed. Needless to say I’m not budging out of my robe, much less my house. Just got home late last night from 4 days and nights of nursing Harriet through Influenza A, so my kitty is glad to see me and fetchingly occupying my lap at every opportunity. I get a little ‘merpp’ if I pet her. She’s going to be displeased in a minute when I stand up to go myself cup of coffee #2 and toast a bagel but she’ll forgive me as soon as I come back, sit down and pull the thick quilt over my lap again.

I’m supposed to go have oral surgery tomorrow, which I’d like to get over with because this dental pain has been grinding me down for a week now and I know as soon as the infected molar is gone so will be the pain but…the surgery is at the Universirty College of Dentistry (post graduate specialty clinic) and if the University is closed tomorrow too so will be that clinic. That is certainly out of my control so que sera sera. I shall snuggle cat, drink hot beverages, read copiously and crank up the oil filled radiator space heater right next me and await further developments.

mooom glad your snow guy showed up without you needing to do anything-best of all worlds! It’s almost magic. Everybody else, stay warm and snug.

Morning all. It is still raining outside and looks like it will continue for most of the day. Not heavy thunderstorms, just a steady rain that goes on and on and… Temperature is 50F and won’t change much.

Dishwasher is churning away and need to pickup my prescriptions in a little bit, but otherwise indoors seems like the best place to be.

BBBoo,glad Harriet is on the mend. And hope you can get the dental stuff done, waiting can be as much harder than the actual event.

FCM, hope you don’t catch the bug Toby is sharing…and guess I’m crazy too, the last couple times we’ve had snow here in N. Ali-bama, I had to go out and see what things were like (and we have much less equipment to deal with it here). And good deal on the driveway cleaning.

Piper, that’s cold in either F or C. Take care of yourself.

Sensei, it’s never easy, but time for her to spread her wings, and good people on the other side will be watching out for her.

rocky, I think it’s a smart move to stay in Friday, they estimate a million people will be out there and that’s just not going to be much fun, unless you’re in the parade…

boo fae, enjoy your two weeks of a life of ease.

And I have finished First Meal along with an apple and some pretzels for dessert. Now I need to dress and go out into the rain for my prescriptions. Have a good day all.

The wife’s back is acting up again, so we cancelled on the lunch outing with other geezers. Just as well, with the flu running rampant. Wife’s RN niece says the ERs are overwhelmed these days. The wife, while fully aware of all this, still insists on going to events that are jammed with bodies. Talking sense does no good, and I can’t seem to convince her that a paper mask protects other people from you, not the other way 'round.

Frigid weather all week, with a brief respite on Friday before plunging again. At least we don’t live in northern MN, where the bottom has dropped out of the thermometer.

Have you watched “Hope Street”? We’ve been watching it and it’s pretty good.

Good plan!

Both my late father and my husband when asked if they’d like anything else say: Winning lottery numbers!

HOORAY!!!

Well, maybe watch Hope Street and Death in Paradise?

Bah humbug. I hope by some miracle that you are able to go!

Well. I’ve been a bit busy ‘round these parts. The website that I freelance for normally has intermittent tasks available. Since the weekend, it’s had work available 24/7! I made enough to buy a shiny new washing machine which is going to be in the house and running by the end of today! Currently I’m taking a break from working because I’m waiting on the plumber to get here and remove the corroded valves and install new ones. So, yeah, I’m going to just keep working as much as I can until it runs its course again. Then I’ll deal with the detritus around me.

I just read yesterday that this week’s flu rate is twice what is was last week and the peak for this season so far. My 7 year old grand daughter has Influenza A and I just got home from nursing her through 4 days and nights of 105.6 spiking fevers. The Tamiflu really made a difference for her once she got it on board and so far she’s tolerated it well.

I’m with you-just staying home and away from people unless I have to be there-like at the dental appt yesterday. Optional trips can wait, as can any kind of gathering short of funerals and weddings. And you’re right about paper masks, better than nothing but not but much. Kn94 or N95s protect much better. I just wash my hands a lot and disinfect doorknobs and light switches, etc.
