(Old) Can You Hear that Cranberry "Schloop"? - A Thanksgiving MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 74 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted to begin around noon and last throughout the rest of the day. We shall see. We have nowhere we either want or need to be, so bring it on I say. Laundry is on today’s agenda. The excitatement I feel knows no bounds. There will also be the usual sloth, general over uselessness, nappage and day drinkin’, lest anyone think I am slackin’ on sloth. Sup shall be salmon patties, peas, smashed N.O.T., and bizkits. I need to make extra bizkits so I have some to put in the dressin’ when I make it tomorrow. I made and froze a buncha cornbread already. Gotta put that in da fridge today so it thaws.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

I might have gotten about 4 hours of sleep - luckily, there’s nothing big on today’s agenda - Laundry, shopping, maybe a little tidying. Late today, I need to unwrap the turkey and put it back in the fridge sans cover. According to several recipes I read, letting the skin dry that way makes for crispier skin. So unless someone here tells me what a terrible idea it is, I shall proceed accordingly.

I’m thinking I’ll pull some poke out of the freezer for supper. MIL had cabbage in her fridge that we brought here, lest it rot while she was gone, and cabbage goes well with poke. I have a couple of stops to make this morning - dropping off a package for UPS at CVS and mailing another. But that should all be done before 9.

Coincidentally, 8-9-ish is when the deluge is supposed to start here, tho the greater chance is around noon. By then, I should be well beyond having to go anywhere. So good times ahead.

Happy Tuesday!!

Nice Thanksgiving avatar!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 35F and mostly clear. The expected high is 54, with mostly cloudy skies for much of the day. Rain is supposed to move in around 8:00 p.m.

nellie, you are a good friend. All the best to your friend (and you!) as she fights this battle.

FCM, I hope the apartment thing works out for BiL, but mainly I hope he stays where he is so he can get some help.

I can take or leave cranberry sauce, although I make a very good from scratch version with orange, etc. . No one who will be eating at my house this week is really a fan, so I will be omitting it from the menu.

After I finish posting here, I’ll order crates for the doggos. None of the local pet shops have the size or kind I need. I think after that I’ll go back to bed. I’m feeling pretty icky today and I think I just need some sleep.

I’m sure there is much more to address, so I’ll send my hugs, yays and boos as appropriate.

They won’t release him till he’s stable - the psychiatrist already told him that. And I suspect the next step will be to the crisis center where with luck he’ll learn to live independently again. He’ll really need a visiting nurse or aide to come daily and make sure he takes his meds, IMHO. Anyway, chances are he’ll eventually need his own place, and it’s not going to be with us, so he’ll have the apartment. And if he somehow ends up committed for good, it’s easy to break the lease because they have such a long waiting list (he was on the list for over a year.) But fingers crossed for a good outcome.

I’ve been to Food Lion, to Shoppers, and I’ve dropped off 2 packages to be returned to Amazon. First load is in the washer, and there’s some ground beef thawing for a batch of chili. I’ll get that started soon.

The poke is also out to thaw - it’ll be rotissed for supper. And we’ll just see what else comes up today.

Morning all. It’s 7:30am here and I am out of my room (they have already set it up for the next passengers). I don’t disembark until 9am and then have 8 hours to kill before my flight. Wanted to see the USS Iowa which is right next door but have no place to store my bags so will have to pass on it.

Take care all and I’ll try to write more later on.

Notes from my ortho appointment yesterday. The main cause of my knee pain is arthritis. This really pisses me off. I was hoping it was soft tissue, something that would eventually heal. Oh no. I also have a benign cyst behind that knee, and a bone bruise. This morning I made 12 PT appointments, starting next week. If that doesn’t work, he will inject HA gel and when THAT stops working, knee replacement. Oh, and the reason for the 2nd MRI with contrast? Radiologist thought the cyst might be malignant.

As Garth Brooks sang “I’m much too young to feel this damn old.”

Hugs to you, Pilot and Nellie. Pilot, from what I’ve heard you say about your wife, she was a wonderful lady, and Nellie, I hope your friend does well on her meds. They’ve come light years with side effect management, so hopefully that will stand her in good stead. My mom always looked forward to her next cycle, if only because they gave her steroids, benadryl and anti-nausea meds, all of which helped a lot with the fatigue, stuffy nose caused by the tumor and helped her eat. I’ll be thinking of you both.

I’ve taken the day off today - also known as “PTO lite.” I’m working a bit because of a recent blow up at work and more layoffs, and in the meantime making pies, answering questions from the glass guys replacing one of our doors and trying to find a decent probate lawyer to help me and my sister finish closing out those items for which mom had no beneficiary. If this experience has taught me anything, it’s to have a plan.

I am decidedly on team cranberry, but only because it sits better on a turkey sandwich than the canned variety. I finally admitted my dark secret to my kids: I hate turkey. I hate it a lot and need all the sides and sauces to cover up the taste, but my kids love the whole tradition, so I’ll be smoking one. It’s entirely possible I just can’t cook large cuts of meat - we don’t eat much of it, so I usually wind up murdering it all over again when I cook it. I’ll see what happens this year, I guess. Okay, off to make the pies. I’m not going to get any work done at all with the banging, so should probably do something else productive. Well, sorta.

First day back in the orifice in over a month. A week of cruising, two weeks of COVID, and a couple of weeks of isolation. I do not prefer waking up at 0430.

Late mornin’ all. Presently 11am-ish and we’ve hit our expected high of 82/28 under semi-cloudy skies.

Up and out early, got breakfast at a local deli, then off to the driving range again. Kinda having fun with all this. Did manage to forget my leftovers at the deli and leave a sweatshirt behind at the range. Sigh.

Back home and Her Ladyship was just up & sheveled. Oughta be napping right now, but the bed is stripped and certain members of the household are not competent to install bed clothes correctly enough.

Not much else planned for today. Might beach if it doesnt cloud up & start raining like it did yesterday.

Good to hear that most folks aren’t having a crisis today.

Cheers!

So the overnight heaving went well, and the 1st couple of hours on morning did as well.
Then Green Belt jammed, and boy, did I have a lot of clean up. And they kept bringing stuff to fix. There was a wreck coming into to work, somebody tried to drive across 5 lanes, and ended up with a 12 inch shorter car. And a package car hit a motorcycle as the cars were leaving. And a day shift girl almost joined her ancestors by running across the street right in front of a pack of cars while it was raining, and everybody speeding. Naptime.

Might be.

Almost all (or maybe all) of them are closing around me. I used to love getting junk food there, until they regularly messed up my orders, didn’t have half of what was on the menu. The quality of service really went down a lot.

Yay for getting out! I get the same way sometimes. I don’t care where I go, just get me out of the damned house!

I think the name must change depending on where it’s being made. I started by calling it “corn soufflé” but got tired of being told "Oh, you mean corn pudding! Went didn’t you just say so? "

And hugs to your friend, Nellie. I was going to ask Hubby (former cancer researcher) about prognosis, etc but you’ve gotten plenty of great info and he hasn’t been enmeshed in the research world like that in over 12 years.

Usually you can tell them to cancel beforehand and they set it to cancel at the end of the trial period.

I had my PT evaluation this morning for my back problems. My PT is hopeful that just doing exercises to strengthen my core will help. I’m good with that. A lot of the exercises he’s giving me when I see him next week will be things I can do on my own at home. I just want to get back to normal movement.

Talked to Dad last night. He’s got the nurses from the dialysis center stopping by a couple times a week. One of them is picking up groceries for him tomorrow morning. I’m amazed at all the wonderful people that have been helping him. But Dad is a wonderful person which makes others want to do what they can. We did find out he was hooking up his dialysis wrong, though. Now he’s got it right, so that will help with some of it. Now if we’d hear from the home help…

CtE came home with a migraine yesterday. At first, I thought they were making more of it to get to come home but when I got there, they had serious light sensitivity. They got feeling better after an Imitrex and sleep. Today, both kids are staying in school, though I’ll pick them up at the end of the day. It’ll give me more reading time.

Got my bedroom cleaned up yesterday. I’m making progress. Tomorrow I’m going to try to get the kids to help out with a bunch do I don’t need to bend and/or shoot on the floor and scoot. If I can’t get my kids to help out, what did I have them for?

Have a great Tuesday, all!

I just got my little onyx bowl from Birdmoss…and it is chipped :frowning:

Got 3 loads of laundry done and did some reading. In about 40 minutes, I need to start supper. It’s been raining and it’s just miserable outside. Glad I live indoors.

Went to Trader Joe’s in Burien to get my lunch. I got my usual Cobb salad, a case of wine, 1.5 kg dark chocolate, and K-pods of decaf and French Roast. The place was more crowded than I’ve ever seen it; and I had to park farther away… um, by far… than I ever had to before. Anyway, the Cobb salad has been consumed, the wine is in the car, and Wifey’s coffee and chocolate are in the bag.

Also in the bag are a dozen home-laid eggs from our accountant. I’ve been out of the orifice for more than a month, so I don’t know how long they’d been sitting on my desk. I hope they’re still good.

They probably are, eggs last longer than one would think. Be sure to float them before using them, but I’m sure you do that with yard bird eggs anyhow.

Afternoon all. Am sitting in the American Airlines lounge at Terminal 4 at LAX, cost me a $$$ but beats 4.5 hours out among the populace. Food, a comfy chair overlooking the tarmac so I can do some quality plane watching, and can charge up the phone when I have to. Taxi from the ship was efficient but expensive.

Real fish, hope the PT helps and glad your dad has good care.

Flyboy, glad to hear your doing better

Wet one, hope whatever they do helps with the knee without replacement being necessary.

Boo fae, enjoy your week off.

OK, back to slothing. Take care all.

Nope. Eggs don’t last that long in our house. We go through a carton every couple of weeks. Sometimes more.

Commercial eggs don’t usually need to be floated, but home-laid eggs from yard birds should always be floated and washed. Broody chickens have been known to hide eggs and those are the ones you need to watch out for. (However, in the past year, I have had one commercial egg float but zero yard bird with issues. Maybe I need to rethink my advice.)

awww, bummer. they are known for customer service, so i hope it gets resolved quickly.
