(Old) Can You Hear that Cranberry "Schloop"? - A Thanksgiving MMP

Having leftover pizza for breakfast cuz I can.

I made a quick bacon, aig and cheese burrito because I could. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Thanksgiving to the American Mumpers!

The pumpkin bread is made and I’ll start the rest around one o’clock for dinner sometime between 4 and 5.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate!

It’s 39F and cloudy outside, but the clouds will give way to afternoon sunshine and temps will top out at 49F.

I was out of bed at 4:45, which was late for me, but at Safeway by 6:00 a.m., where, thank goodness, I was able to procure some sage sausage. Now, my stuffing and dressing will be right. I mean, I guess I could have just made my own, but why?

I will commence with making deviled eggs in about an hour. At 10:00, I’ll make the dressing/stuffing, and by 11:00 or 11:30, I’ll put the bird in the oven. I may adjust backward an hour, but that’s my plan.

wheelie, I hope the rest of your trip was/is uneventful and you have a nice celebration with your wife.

boofae, enjoy your music festival!

nellie, Although I know it isn’t logical, I kind of viewed the stray Polar tufts as visits from my best boy too. He is in my thoughts every day.

sari, I really hope your son steps up and obtains his license soon. As tired as you say you are, I worry there will be an accident. When you’re tired, your reaction time slows down and you’ve already mentioned two close calls.

I need to grab a yogurt and another cup of coffee and finish tidying. I spent a good part of yesterday steaming and waxing my kitchen floor, along with some other chores. Now, I just need to quickly run the roll-suck around and clear a few items from the kitchen island. So, other than food prep and what I’ve just described, I’m ready for the day. There will be clean-up along the way of course, because it’s easier to clean as I cook, than look at a giant mess at the end.

My best to all of you!

Morning all. At brothers house with nothing but a day of sloth and turkey eating ahead. Two more nights before I can sleep in my own bed again and I’m more than ready to go home.

Everyone have a good Thorsday wherever you are.

It’s just me and Mr. brown, and we’re not turkey fans. So I have a small rack of lamb defrosting, and will roast it and serve it with potato/garlic/cream gratin and some roasted carrots. I have a pumpkin pie in the oven right now and it’ll be done in about fifteen minutes. The crust looks like it’ll be a good one. I make crusts from scratch and by eyeballing the ingredients. They always turn out well, but once in awhile they’re absolutely prize-winning. Hopefully today’s will be one of the latter.

Bacon’s in the oven for breakfast. I’ll start making the turkey around 1100. It’s 14 pounds plus stuffing, so according to Reynolds is should take 2:00 to 2:15 to roast in the bag. I’ll plan on adding another hour or so to that, since I want to ensure the stuffing is at least 165º. Roasting bags keep the bird moist.

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow US Mumpers…and happy Thursday to everyone else!

Thanks for the comments on my surgiversary photo. I tend to focus on the (many) things that still need (a lot of) work, so it’s good for me to “brag” every now and then and remind myself that I’ve come a long way and am really not doing so badly.

I’ve been spending the morning putzing around online, and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on my iPad (since the TV is in the other room). When I cancelled cable, I didn’t realize that Peacock and Paramount+ include live NBC and CBS programming: I’m still glad I have an antenna, but it’s nice to be able to stream those networks when I want to watch something live on my iPad and/or when there’s bad weather (= iffy antenna reception).

It’s just about time to jump in the shower and head to my BFFs’ place…I hope everyone has a great day!

I love that characterization, and may start using it when I talk with my personal trainer. I’m always laughing at myself when my knees or shoulders creak during a workout.

Such a great idea. Thank goodness they were all relatively comfortable with that technology!

What I meant was that yes, you found the one he carried to the tree, but was there any concern that he might have also eaten one. I think by now you’d know if anything were wrong, though.

What a great way to express that feeling/concept!

That does look like fun! :train: If it were closer to Baltimore (and didn’t involve the Bay Bridge), I’d suggest it to my dad and bro.

Yay! :crossed_fingers:

Apparently my oven turns itself off when it thinks it’s cooked long enough. Dammit. I’m not sure when it did, but the internal temp of the breast is 150° and it should be 170°. So I just turned the oven back on at a higher temp to finish. MIL is making the dressing, since I don’t eat the stuff and I’ve never made it. I’ve got the smoked turkey ready to go in the oven to be warmed up. The table is set.

I need to steam the broccoli - that only takes about 15 minutes. And making gravy from a packet takes less than 5 minutes (DON’T JUDGE!!!) - I already washed my gravy boat. I guess it’s not too early to schloop the cranberry jelly on to a dish. Then I need to get the sweet potatoes peeled and boiled. But I’ll get that stuff done after MIL leaves the kitchen.

I should probably check my list, too. I think I’ve remembered it all… I think…

FCM you don’t eat stuffing??? Oh the humanity.

My body does not like pizza for breakfast……

You are beautiful!!! Both pictures. I don’t photograph well, but you obviously do.

I’m not doing much until tomorrow, when I’ll do most of the my part of the Saturday family dinner prep.

Apparently, when I put the frozen turkey into the bottom drawer of the fridge last week, I cracked the bottom of the drawer. I’ve got a replacement in my Amazon shopping cart, but I want to check the measurements after I take the turkey out.

I think you look quite good in the “after” photo and the “before” photo!

And while I’m happy to provide the ego boost (and understand that rush), a gentle reminder that what I or anyone else thinks about what you look like counts for exactly jack squat. You’re improving your health for your own sake. That’s the most important part, and I heartily applaud you for it!

Meanwhile, my flight this morning couldn’t have been easier. It actually landed early, and I’m halfway home from the airport in an Uber right now. Whew! Thanks for the positive vibes, everyone!

With the roasting of the yams this morning, all is ready for our contribution towards Thanksgiving dinner #1 (TD#1). We get to do it again on Sunday for TD#2. It’s a nice sunny day for the 40 minute drive, which also means we can stay a bit later as it won’t get really dark until after five. Not sure what the agenda is, although they apparently like to sit around and watch football on T-day. I haven’t bothered with football since the Purple People Eaters were dominating the defensive line back in the 70s, so it holds no interest for me.

Sunday (TD#2) will be spent with my daughter, my youngest son, and his daughters.

I gotta catch up with y’all later. The rats have apparently chewed out of their enclosure (thanks for the heads up Monkey!) and while running on about three hours sleep - I could NOT wind down last night after working open → close, had a 420 am smoke which isn’t actually a good thing - I’m about to get myself washed and moderately presentable, since Sweet Manager and her mother have invited me, plus one of the Oven Masters, for Da Feasting.
We’ll see if O.M. shows up, and if I can keep the cursing down to a tolerable limit. It IS my day off, after all.

Sweet Manager kept trying to get me to come over earlier, to watch the parade. As diplomatically as possible, I was like, yah, seriously, that’s a nope.

Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Going out to The Quay in a bit for Thanksgiving dinner.
appy Thig!
^this is why I just ordered a new keyboard from Da Jungle. “Happy Thanksgiving”

Good luck on the flight, Wheelie!

Psssst. You’re not supposed to dunk it.

Enjoy the bands, boofae!

Did anyone invite boofae to the buffet?

Halves of both birds have been carved and plattered and they’re being held at temperature. Dressing and casserole are in the on-deck circle waiting for oven time in a few minutes. When I put the dressing in (soggy seasoned bread - yum  ) I need to get the broccoli out and set up the steamer. Casserole goes in 15 minutes after the dressing. And I need to do the gravy. And I should check my list.

Tahred, I am.

The turkey just went into the oven, the squash and beans are prepped and ready to cook, the desserts are done, and my husband does the mashed potatoes. Time to put my feet up.

No one will come over for at least two hours. Maybe i should take a walk, instead of just sitting here.

The turkey neck and entrails are simmering. I’ll put the liquid, heart, and gizzard into the stuffing, and the liver into the gravy. I put the dried cranberries into the bowl with the croutons, and I’m about to chop the onion and celery.

Daughter thought dinner was at 4 instead of 3, so she’s running late. So much for my timing…
