Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and stowed ‘em. That did us in, so nappage was needed. We staved off malaria and scurvy out on the back porch. No Spanish swear words session as the crew finished up yestiddy. Shrimpies ‘n grits, spare guts and rolls were consumed for sup. So good! We finished watchin’ the latest installments of Wednesday on Netflix. Now I will go and see whatup on teh intartoobz.
Appallingly close to the truth.
A medical two-fer!
It’s been a while since I’ve made shrimpengrits. (Grits = carbs. I’m trying to be good, but my jeans seem to be shrinking.
) We went down the beach for our bi-weekly dinner by the sea. I had the usual: Grilled Caesar salad with a grilled chicken beast, and two negronis. Wifey had a bowl of clam chowder and Hemingway daiquiris. There were a couple of guys at another table who complained about the portion sizes all through their meal. They agreed that the food was great, but the portions should have been 25% larger. They brought it up to the waitress when they were done. I don’t know what they were talking about. We’ve never left hungry. (And we’ve occasionally have leftovers.)
If you ever have a hankering to try one out, some folks just starting have been known to have some success using a rolling pin for the pressure. Those of us who play with paper generally have a manual die cutter that’s used for embossing as well. Here’s an example using paper that’s been run through an embossing folder. Sis is also playing around with running thin leather through one. (We’re both craft nerds, can you tell?
)
An early late-night final as I suspect I will be in bed early tonight, given the gym workout and refereeing until 7pm on a lighted field, so should sleep well tonight. Another pleasant day, outside of a mess of traffic to get to the soccer game due to the High School Homecoming parade. Have got my Firday shopping list together and will stop by my insurance agency to check on procedures once my new car arrives and I commit to sell my old one to Carmax.
Pilot,
As long as there is not a Noodle Incident…
VanGO, you’re putting in some labor, but I’m sure the kids will enjoy it, even if they don’t recognize the craftmanship.
And back to the tackleball game I have open on Amazon Prime. Y’all have a good night.
I have X-Acto knives…
Up from naptime. Having a Jungle Bird, Smoked Paprika Chicken with green beans and Calabrian chilies. Watching late night hockey.

Smart move.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 44 degrees Ferret Height(6.66 Centipedes)
It’s also the Feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch, bishop, martyr, and inventor of The Holy Hand Grenade.
Thank you from this Canuckian canine for the happy Canadian Thanksgiving wishes. I was going to say that it doesn’t really begin the holiday season here in Canada like Thanksgiving does in the US because it’s too damn early, but danged if tonight I didn’t see a house already festooned with a vast array of Christmas lights, almost enough to rival the ones in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (which as one might recall, required a secondary nuclear power plant to come online!). So maybe it really is the holiday season already, and I’m just a Grinchly Curmudgeon!
Ha! @wolfpup , my neighbour has a typical, subdued display in his front yard. But a wonderful display in his back one. He put it up the lights on the back fence this past weekend (we had great weather), and I know that the Grinch and Max, illuminated by floodlights, will come later, as they always do.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Every cloud has a fucking silver lining. Except that one. That one hopes you fucking fail.”
Not necessarily eloping, but four of my friends got married at Gretna Green - both couples had a kind of secret wedding there (‘im indoors and I were invited to the first one) and opted to have a celebration afterwards for all their friends. The second couple did theirs entirely in secret and posted pictures on FB later!
Piper safe travels and happy landings, you were lucky to get through an airport so quickly!
Our catsitter has spent a long time winning over the girls, she did very well with Shadow and Ophelia but they were much older when she first met them. The girlies are only 4 years old, and have been through a few fosterers before they landed with us. Muffin, of course, takes a lot more work but even she is starting to warm up to Jenni now.
She wears me down just thinking about having to talk to her! Today’s joy will be me telling her that she needs a new chair. She’s a very large lady and has a chair that’s wider than the standard office supply chair, she’s had it for about 15 years and has been muttering recently about it not working right any more. The hydraulic bit that keeps it at the correct height is worn out so I need to start the process of getting her a review and a new chair - despite the fact that she’s grumbled about the chair, and it will be affecting her joints, it will still be an uphill battle getting her to agree to the process. Some people just don’t want to be helped, and she’ll be a total martyr about this for as long as she can but I am not giving in.
Glitter is indeed more annoying, and I think it is a great idea! I had a glitter bath bomb from Lush many years ago and used it before going to a party. There was a lot of glitter all over me, as expected, it was also all round the bath, several towels, the floor, the rest of the house, and a black cat who was suddenly ever so slightly sparkly.
Sounds like it! I’m glad you had fun and came home with some cool stuff to play with.
Not curmudgeonly at all - hexmas lights should not go up until after Hallowe’en!
Yesterday was a bit of a waste, I did not feel like myself at all and fortunately managed to only attend one meeting (which was also disappointing in various ways). I went home and tended to the needs of cats, and then had a nice soaky bath which did make me feel a bit better. I had asked ‘im indoors to get himself home from the station instead of me collecting him, it’s a 10-minute drive each way (or a half-hour walk for him) but I really did not feel safe to be in charge of a car. We had a cuppa together and watched the last episode of Dexter: Original Sin, then I went to bed. Had a fairly decent sleep and am feeling better today.
The morning commute was interesting, there was an incident of some sort on the line between home station and Big City station so we were diverted on a loop line that takes a bit longer and misses out the two intervening stations where we would normally have stopped. Thus my train was emptier than usual and didn’t stop anywhere which meant I arrived at Big City station with just enough time to scuttle from platform 5 to platform 10 in less than 3 minutes to catch the Nice Campus Train.
Met one of the dept heads on the way and walked into the office with him, after a nice chat about stuff that he will be discussing at the dept meeting this morning which I am unable to attend ‘cos I have a meeting elsewhere. Breakfast and a cuppa, then off to today’s first hour-long meeting.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 82 and sunny. Mowage will be accomplished this mornin’. May have to wait until later as in close to noon as I am sure da yahd is extremely wet. That’s the big task of the day. Much RDOS inactivity will follow. Sup will be kinda sorta cheesesteaks to use up the leftover hunk o’ beast from Tuesday and oven fries.
JtC and others who will be at the protests tomorrow please be safe.
BooFae minion sounds like a certified drama queen.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Mowage awaits!
Happy Firday Y’all!
I wish there was an option to get smaller portions. I’m OK with doggie bags, but it takes a lot of self-control sometimes to divide my serving at the start of the meal, especially when we go to Salsa’s. On the other hand, I can have Pollo Fiesta two days in a row…
red - I’ve embossed clay using all sorts of things - lace, textured placemats, leaves and flowers… I’ve been getting a hankerin’ to work in clay again - just gotta fix my kiln.
I’m with ya! I stopped at CVS the other day to get my meds and I saw a 3’ Santa next to a 3’ skeleton with a pumpkin head. It made my head wanna alsplode!!!
OK, I shoulda said everyone in trashy novels elopes…
I’ve actually learned stuff from trashy novels - every time a city or county is mentioned, I go to Google maps to see what they’re talking about. It always throws me when they talk about taking several days to travel 100 miles, but, yanno, horses and carriages.
I do wonder, too, about changing horses along the way. Apparently they’d stop every so often for food/potty breaks and to swap out their horses, since the animals needed rest. But what it they left home with their team, then traded them for another, not-so-great team? Did someone later get their horses back? Or did they just start out with a team-to-be-swapped? In one story, the Duke (it’s always a Duke) sent multiple teams of his own ahead so he didn’t have to use loaner horses. Glad we don’t have to fuss with that.
Today is our HVAC service. They never tell me a time, but I’m supposedly the first call of the day. I’ve asked FCD to stay home till they come because they also service his shop mini-split and I’d rather he deal with that.
Speaking of HVAC, I fired up the pellet stove this morning. It was 67° in this end of the house and I was chilled. So this room, at least, is warming up. I won’t leave it burning too much longer, but it is more comfortable in here. I had to get a flashlight to look at the controls - I’d forgotten… dammit. All these years and only one knob to adjust, and I’d forgotten. This getting old stuff suxxxx!!
Anyway, it begins. Happy Firday!!
Carriage horses were typically able to do a steady trot for around 10 miles on a good road before they needed to rest, obviously less if the road wasn’t in particularly good condition. That means that the original team of horses could be left somewhere close enough to home for a servant to collect later, or they could be picked up by the carriage on the way back home.
After that, you’d get a substitute team for the next stage of the journey and keep swapping them out until you got to your destination. You might find this site interesting!
Thanks, boofae! I had no idea where to look up the info! You da bestest!!
Got in by 5 pm yesterday. Planes, trains and automobiles.
Ate at the really nice restaurant I could never afford when I was a student here.
wow! muffin is coming out of her grief/depression. such progress!
thank you for the cool site. travel was crazy in the days of yore.
last night halloween touches were added to the lobby last night. the 2 new additions were approved.
on to shred day today and then the weekend.
For me, the portions at our regular two places are just right. The Caesar salad I had last night is made with one head of Romaine lettuce, about seven inches long, that is split in half and grilled, house-made Caesar dressing, and grated parm, with a grilled chicken breast on the side I leave out the croutons. It was almost too much for me to eat. At the Mexican place, I’ll often have a shredded-beef taco salad. I only eat the salad, and I don’t eat the shell. It’s enough, even though I no longer get hot wings.
I stepped on the scale this morning, and it confirmed what my jeans have been telling me. I need to go on a diet. Cut out the breakfast burritos. And I need to get walking. I’ve been slacking off since my knee has gotten worse. I’ll just have to take some ibuprofen beforehand. The trouble with cutting back on the tasty food is that when I clock out of work this afternoon, we’ll be on vacation.
Good morning.
It’s 52°F, and mostly cloudy at the moment. There’s a slight chance of rain showers around 7:00 a.m., but otherwise the day will be mainly to partly cloudy, with a daytime high of 62°F.
Wolfpup, I feel the same way as you.
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!. I had an employee who was perfectly content with his broken chair, but he was a good guy. I finally talked him into getting a new one, but it took a little work.
For those of you participating in tomorrow’s doings, please be safe. You all are the best!
I can never finish a meal at restaurants anymore because the portions are big. If there are enough leftovers, I take them home. When I eat out, I tend to focus on the protein and vegetables, so the starches rarely get eaten, and I don’t take them home.
I haven’t decided what I’m going to do today. I could run the steam cleaner, but I’m not sure I want to get involved in all of that. Or, I continue winter prep in my planters and flower beds. I don’t really do much with that. I tend to leave anything that’s gone to seed for the birds, but I pull any weeds. I still have stuff blooming, despite the recent overnight and early-morning temps in the 30s, so I’ll let it go a while longer.
I’m working on my second cup of coffee, so I think I’ll finish it, peruse some real estate, and then get the day going. Please take care of yourselves!
