Old CCCP Hockey Jersey

I’ve been searching for this one on my own for a couple months now with very little luck. One day, I said to myself, “Self, that thin street hockey jersey just isn’t cutting it anymore…you need to get a real jersey to play in.”
“That’s a great idea,” I replied.
“No doubt! Now, you shouldn’t just get ANY jersey…you should get one people will talk about and comment on.”
“I agree.”
“Remeber Clerks?..that jersey Randal wore?..with the hammer and sickle?”
“Yeah! That’s cool. I’ve already got the socks to match!”
“I know!”

So I set out looking for the ‘CCCP-hammer-and-sickle’ jersey on the internet. After an exhaustive search, I had it figured that it was the 1990s Soviet Away jersey…I can only assume it was for the olympics or something similarly international. One site carried it (listed it as such, as well) but the price was…well…unattainable. So, I’ve run additional searches since then with very little luck.
Finally, last week I found it listed on E-bay. Score! So I start a quick correspondence with the seller who tells me that her son says it was a Soviet jersey but that no team ever actually wore it. That’s probably why it’s so hard to find.
So I give the auction another day to…umm…ripen?..before I start bidding on it. So this morning I sign on to place my bid only to find…the auction is gone. The number doesn’t exist…there’s nothing in e-bay’s archives…it’s like it was never there. Additionally, the only other website that listed it is also gone.

By now, thoughts of cover-ups and conspiracy are running through my head while images of black helicopters and government agents with sunglasses and dark suits have me worried for Kevin Smith.

Since then, I’ve decided to give myself the silent treatment…he’s such a jerk for getting me into this. You’re my (our?) only hope. What’s the straight dope on the CCCP hammer and sickle “Clerks” hockey jersey?

Dunno about the Dope, and I’ve never seen the movie so I don’t know exactly what they look like, but there are some available here.

From View Askew’s website:

Nope, not quite. Again, exhaustive search and all I got was a low-res picture with Randal’s arms covering the vital parts. Still, you can see most of the CCCP in the upper right of his check and the bottom end of the hammer below his arm as well as the CCCP on the sleeves. The jersey Randal is wearing is dominantly white with red shoulders and red pinstriping where the two colors would otherwise meet. To match my socks, I’m looking for the inverse (away) jersey…but that became irrelevant a long time ago…I can always buy new socks to match.
I don’t have the movie here right now otherwise I would try to post a frame myself. I’ll look around, though. Someone has to have the DVD…unless they’ve started burning 'em to destroy all evidence of this damned jersey.

Holy schnitte! You mean it’s worth something?!

I, my friends, have that exact jersey. And it’s in pretty pristine condition because tho’ I’ve had it for ages, I’ve rarely worn it. The last time I meant to, Mr. Snicks talked me out of it for some reason.

Sadly, I’m of the ladylike persuasion, and last time I put it on it fit nicely - meaning that I’m not sure it’ll fit burly man-type hockey players, especially with pads and such underneath. However, I’ll take a look at the size iffen you’re interested.

Good catch on the homepage…I read right over it. But that still doesn’t answer the question of what, exactly, it is. Was it some kind of promotional item? Does it even represent any previously or currently existing hockey team? As far as ebay, there’s been nothing listed under the keywords “jersey hockey cccp soviet ccm clerks randal hammer sickle” and variations and combinations thereof.
Snickers:

I don’t think its actually worth anything (especially if you’re going to sell it to me). I’m skinny but exceptionally gangly so I need some long sleeves. Thanks for your help. Oh, and watch out for those helicopters.

It’s not the CCCP jersey that you are talking about, but these are still soviet hockey jerseys, and they look pretty cool. And cheap too! These ones even have a famous player’s name already on the back.

I seem to remember seeing the CCCP jersey in thier catalog, but I don’t see it online. I’ll check back next time they send me a catalog.

P.S. you can also order a CCCP hat from that site.

This one?

hightechburrito and I shop at the same stores!

Back for a report - turns out, my friends, that I do not have Randall’s exact jersey (as I had supposed). I have the red away one for which mambozzy is searching.

It is made by CCM, and it says it’s a large. I, however, don’t see how this can possibly be. Perhaps it’s a large in kids? I did buy it ages ago, probably late '80s, early '90s. Anyway, if you’re looking for gangly sleeves, mambozzy, this probably isn’t what you’re looking for, I’m sad to say. Took some measurements: the sleeve is 25" long from the top of your arm (the “corner” of your shoulder, if you will) and 30" from the center back (as if you were measuring sleeve properly). On a 5’6" 140-lb Snickers, this means the sleeves hit me just about the middle of my palm - just slightly long for me.

It says it’s a large, but when I compare it to my MTU Huskies jersey (also a large, tho’ made by another company), it seems lacking. The sleeves are a good 3" shorter, and it’s 3" shorter in the body length as well. And my Huskies jersey seems huge - I feel enveloped in the thing, while this one fits just about right.

However, let me know if you’d like more info or pics, and I’ll see what I can do.

Sorry - was hoping to have better news (tho’ I do like the jersey!)

What a small world! I’m getting my degree in CJ just down the road at NMU (go Wildcats!).

But yeah, that jersey is nearly a foot too short for my “reach-o-matics”. But if its not too much trouble, I’ll gladly take a picture of it to reference when I ask the baffled sales clerk at the local hockey shop before he kicks by butt out. Feel free to IM or e-mail me. I’m not sure if the little link is supposed to show up in the corner or not so just in case, I’m **ThirtySevnInArow[b/] (@aol.com for e-mail).
Oh, and thanks to **GUINNESS[b/] for his help via AIM yesterday.

Damn the non-preview!!! :smack:

mambozzy, I’ll be happy to send a pic. It could take me a while, however - I’m still in the dark ages of developing and scanning and such (no digital cameras here!). However, my sister just had a little girl, so I’m also a proud aunt that needs to do some developing anyway. I’ll try to get that pic to you by Friday.

How much is too much for you to pay? This place offers the Hammer and Sickle sweater for $120. If it is an authentic sweater (with the tie down strap and large crest) than $120 is pretty reasonable. Plus, #20 (Tretiak) is a pretty good call.

I know it’s a dead thread, but I found a (blurry) picture and felt compelled to post it. Here’s what I’m after…or rather, the reverse of this.

If you can’t find one, you could always have one made. Companies like Hockey Services do custom jerseys. They’d probably have no problem reproducing something as long as you could get them a decent picture of what you want.

Bad news mambozzy. I don’t think that those sweaters are real. Obviously, they exist as you have a picture of them. However, I am fairly certain that they were never worn by Soviet teams in international competition. It is the black that gets me. CCCP never had black in their uniforms (at least from 1972 on until just around the time of the fall they had some yellow and maybe some black) Red and White were the colours they used.

That means that getting one of those sweaters is going to be difficult. If you were willing to go with one of the more traditional Soviet unis you would be in better shape.

Holy keywords, Batman! I found a ton of entries under “CCCP hockey jersey”. Any of those what you’re looking for?

Yes, I am now certain that this is not a real CCCP jersey. So what is it? CCM manufactured and marketed them at some point but to who and for what reason? I’m probably missing something but the gimmick factor doesn’t seem all that great. Did they sell to the Americans or the Ruskies? Of course, finding out how rare this jersey is and the inability to find very little information on it is making me want it all the more. What can I say…I’m a glutton for punishment.
Munch:

Ah, my fault is in the wording, not the searching. As you discovered, there are numerous hits for those keywords (and combinations, thereof). However, I only found one site which had the jersey I was after and that company has since stopped doing business.
