(Old) Dark Skies in the MMP

Spills are a HUGE PIA! I worked in cybersecurity and that crap for too long…

Do not miss it!

This is my plight.

That’s a lot of French fries.
Nettie - Dr Google tells me that’s about twenty large fries from Greasy Mac’s.

Will you be putting fish in or does it stock itself? Will it attract bugs? Can you sit out during a full moon and watch a bat ballet over the water?

We used to love doing that back in the day when Cordes Lakes had lakes.

I think you will be happily surprised…after your fingers stop bleeding that is.

Makes mental note to not approach from the back. Thank you, that was a very understandable description of a critter I’ve only seen in pictures or zoos.

How RUDE!!!

They have to write these sort of things with insurance in mind. I’m sure they have figured out the best words to use to help their patients get the best results.

Hub’s are rechargeable as well, but they also use batteries that can run out while we are gone. I think they run down faster because he streams all of his audio including his gps navigation system through them. His batteries don’t run down when he’s home killing monsters, just when he’s out and about…usually when we are just sitting down so he can go deaf in time to not understand the waitperson.

The only state with more old farts than WV is FL, so the waitstaff never seem to notice when he answers their Hi! How are you today? with “nothing, thanks, I’ll share her water.” They just look at me and wait for the translation.

Oh hi! We’re great, how are you doing today?

Don’t push it. I’m sorry we are both in the “take your time” club, but yeah. Don’t push it. I read forward and CUTE card

My husband can stream his music straight past his ears with bone conduction headphones. He bypasses his hearing aids completely that way and says he can hear music now better than he did when he was thirty. (Loud rock concerts, USMC vet, gun lover, Harley rider…yeah, no wonder he’s deaf)

I think armadillos need water, plus grubs are hard to find in the desert. There might have been some up in the high country but I never heard of them. Of course, I worked full time during most of my life in AZ, I didn’t have nearly as much time out in the wilds as I would have liked.

I do NOT want to do this again.

But seriously, this is why I spend so much time dithering about it. I did know what Iw as getting into, none of this is a surprise. Which means I’m a real idiot because I chose this and now I’m paying someone to charm me into doing ten more reps knowing how much it will hurt tomorrow.

I didn’t get to see the eclipse, but I also didn’t expect to see much. There are trees and mountains and night fog here, which while are beautiful, aren’t conductive to seeing celestial happenings.

Oh, I can remember a county wide shut-down once caused by a new probation officer accepting documents directly from the wrong entity and then forwarding them without checking the contents and links.

Three days when property taxes weren’t being paid and houses sales weren’t being recorded. It was a mess and several people left county employment shortly after.

Oh how fun! NOT! I’ve lived through more of them than I wanted to and am happy that I won’t be doing it again.

Good luck to you. I know you will be fine, but I’m fairly sure you will witness at least one epic meltdown in breakroom.

Oh my goodness. You are making me feel like quite the weenie now. I do hope you are able to enjoy some chemical relaxation after the torture sessions.

I now have to stop typing and go and get an ice pack. Three lb wrist curls hurt much more than they should.

Oh, wait: they called back to cancel 2 lbs (“we ordered too much fries”) yeah no kidding.

It’s so windy and hot here, I feel like I’m living in an air fryer.

I’ve been to one officially designated dark skies area at Big Bend in Texas. Like others have said, it is a sight like no other. The stars are different colors and it’s so bright even without the moon that you don’t need a flashlight to see.

My sister, a friend and I went on that trip. And we managed to convince ourselves out in the middle of nowhere that a serial killer was definitely lurking off in some scrub brush and we scared ourselves back to the safety of the car until we could work up the nerve to go back outside :joy:

I’m going tomorrow morning to help a friend buy a new car. She said she’s never negotiated over the price and just paid whatever they told her (:scream:). She doesn’t have anyone else that can go so I finally took the hint that she was hoping I would offer. I told her I can’t guarantee some great deal but I can certainly do better than sticker price! Really hope that doesn’t take all day though.

I would love to have some Mumper friends on FB if anyone is interested… I tried finding Mollie but I’m not sure I found the right one. So if anyone is willing, please send me a PM either with your name or I’ll send you back a link to my profile. I tried to friend FCM but there was no option to do so.

I’m only up to post 160 so I’ll have to catch up the rest tomorrow. In the meantime:

Bright Tree yay for pond repairs!

sticky buns wow your house looks gorgeous! Definitely spruced the place up.

red So glad you’re doing better and out of the hospital. You’ve really been through it this past year.

JtC I know it sucks but good on you for following orders and putting in the work. As you know, it’s worth it in the end. Also, really interesting about the elk.

I’m out of time and wasn’t able to respond to everyone I wanted to. Try to catch everyone again in a day or two!

I messaged you a link - hope it’ll work.

I did laundry and made a run to Food Lion - that’s the extent of today’s productivity… oh yeah, and some cetol-ing. Mostly a lazy day. I think I’ll forage in the pantry or the fridge. It’s past my usual suppertime.

I have NEVER once done that to myself in the past. EVER.

Except…one of my friends in Hawaii was part of a funeral parlor owning family and she was expected to put in some night hours because the dead shouldn’t be left alone.

She wasn’t in the morgue or anything, she was in the reception area and a couple of her brothers walked around the property as guards and checked in with her a few times a shift.

One night I was visiting and we got our hands on some super good weed. After a while we started talking about movies about bodies in morgues (all of the bodies in their building were on slabs in a freezer, they weren’t out on display or anything) and how decomposing bodies still moved and made noises and farted and then suddenly we heard a piece of cloth slide off a table.

Both of us were out of the garden and on the other side of the gate before we remembered the absence of bodies on gurneys but we still didn’t go back in until one of the brothers came back and looked around for us.

I keep thinking I should make a facebook account, but it never seems to happen. Maybe I’ll read up on how to make a secure account, or maybe I’ll just go out and sit on the porch for a spell. The weather is perfect and the air is redolent of freshly cut grass.

I think fall is happening. I know it is still warm, but it is getting dark earlier and the trees are starting to lose their vibrant green. There aren’t as many birds, either.

I don’t know what to do about planting garlic this year. None of our neighbors garden and I really don’t have anyone to talk to about it. When I bring garlic up to his family, they tell me the best places to buy it and offer to get some when next they are there.

I know that the WV reputation involves a lot of hard-scrabble subsistence living, but I’ve never met anyone like that. Heck, the first time I saw anyone barefoot was a few months ago and that was a young male showing off on a bicycle in front of a couple of young ladies. (My toes curled hard in memory of the stubbing I once got when I was that young and stupid.)

Howdy Y’all! I took care of candle and other duties. Then I went to the “wellness” exam. I am not yet fully demented. At least, I think that’s what I was told. I picked up Bojangle’s for today’s main need to feed. Nappage, day drinkin’ and general RDOS slot then ensued. Thus it is in swampland.

MOOOOOOM I saw a PA (which is fine by me) today for all of fifteen minutes. I got weighed, got my vital taken, was asked to draw a clock, told three words (apple, watch, penny), asked to repeat them back then and then a few minutes later. She reviewed my medical history. I still fail to see what that did for me. Also, apple, watch, penny? Most everybody is aware that the Apple watch exists, so not exactly difficult there. They get to bill Medicaid for it, so I guess that makes 'em happy.

Mollie Chloe looks as if she might be displeased or contented. Also, like the t-shirt idea. Conga rats to Fang!

doggio that’s the kind of party mix that makes it a partay!

shoe the six pounds of fries would pair well with doggio’s party mix.

VanGo it’s a good thing to stop and rest. Rest and hydrate. I do that when I achieve mowage.

JtC there’s a hint of Fall in the air here. I mean it’s *ONLY 83 ferret heights outside as I post!

I went to the local classic car show. Loved the cars. They had a band playing. Whip It!

It’s easy to remember 3 words until it isn’t.

Up from naptime. Having a Jungle Bird and watching preseason handegg(Panthers on the TV, Packers on the PC). Dinner is catfish, Trader Joe’s Hatch Chile mac n’ cheese, and green beans with onion and country ham.

:slightly_smiling_face:

So chosen not by Primogeniture or strange penguins lying in ponds distributing swords, but some strange third thing.

My load is done and put away. I usually do a load a day, because my dryer vent involves 60 of tube and 4 90 degree bends, so it take a while to dry.

The Blues Brothers?

< is jealous >

A small order is a half-pound; a large is a (single) full 16 oz.

Lemme toss you a P.M. (or in corporate speak, “Let’s take this offline” which you know means everyone else on the Zoom call gets curious & starts gossiping.)

Note to self: I need to ask my almost-completely-deaf father if he’s looked into these.

(Sheesh, I go to decompress on the MMP and wind up with a friggin’ chore list.)

I know we rag about F.B. but this sort of thing is where it still shines, for me. Guaranteed there are gardening groups for your local area - post a question or random puzzlement (“what is this weird weed that sprouted up?”) and you’ll likely get more answers & advice than you even wanted, in a few hours or days.

There’s at least one group specifically for growing citrus in containers - I know, cuz I’m a member.

why I walked in here?”

We don’t serve toast.

(But we do have fried chicken.)

Happy Friday, all! After work I built some Lego while eating dinner, with the Red Sox/Yankees pre-game and then early innings on in the background. For the past hour or so I’ve been in the TV room, still watching the game (3 more innings/about another hour to go). :baseball:

So far, at least, the classified data spill isn’t keeping me from being able to work: yesterday and today were spent in a conference room with the two other affected people and one guy whose laptop we used to get to/review the briefing that needs to be finalized ASAP. I had to go to the office today (normally I work from home on Fridays), but it was good to be able to be productive. I’ll also have enough to do for at least Monday and Tuesday. If I ever get to a point where I can’t do anything else, at least I won’t have to take any leave; the company will cover my time. It feels really, really weird to be completely cut off/not have a work phone or laptop with me for the first time in 8 years! Don’t get me wrong: it’s not all bad, it’s just weird.

In other weirdness, this week I opted to have two prescriptions mailed to me when they auto-refilled and I got delivery confirmations for both of them…but only received one. And then today CVS texted me to say that the one I didn’t get was waiting to be picked up. I swung by the pharmacy after work, and apparently I had Schroedinger’s prescription: their system said it both was and wasn’t ready/there! I’ve been using CVS forever (and getting prescriptions mailed to me) and this is the first time anything like this has happened, so I wasn’t annoyed or anything. Happily, though, the pharmacist was willing to fill it for me again right then – which was a bigger deal than it seems, because I had 0 refills left. I wasn’t out of the prescription and I could have waited for them to contact my doctor on Monday, but I’m glad I don’t have to.

It seems like my property manager/his parents are going to fix my deck! :tada: At the very least, they’re going to start getting some quotes. I still need to do my part and contact the HOA for their rules about deck repairs/replacements, but hopefully there will be some acceptable quotes by the end of September. I imagine it could be October or even November before the work is finished, but I tend to run warm and can be happy outside in cool weather for longer than some…I’m hoping to get some time out there before winter hits.

Nice!!

It sounds like you do see their usefulness, then.

Awwwwwwwwww!

:people_hugging:

Amen!!

Nah; the order would have been six pounds of french fries and a Coke.

<high-fives shoe>

Can I get a Coke?

And a good evening to all. Soccer has been practiced and I need to get a lineup ready for my 8:15am game tonight, all the boys must play at least 1/2 of the game and none can play all the game unless everyone plays 3/4, so managing playing time can be quite the exercise. Once that’s done I’ll probably head off to bed, after setting the alarm for about 6:15am (oh joy). Weather should be comfortable tomorrow morning, about 73F at 8am, but by my 11am game it’ll be 84-85F. So sweatage will be done.

And got 11 hours of conversation to cover, so if I’m going to bed early, need to git’r done.

Cookie, the Friday puzzle is usually the hardest, I can complete Sunday’s about 1-in-3 times, but Fridays success I can count on the toes of one hand…

Mollie, that is one dog built for snuggles. And that Fangy-pack is a wee bit on the heavy side, it seems…

FCM, hope the debt collector figures out sooner rather than later he is up the wrong tree barking.

My kind of party…

{{Red}}, hope they have something that can alleviate the pain.

VanGo, understandable, don’t know how hot it is there but I take 2 breaks at least to mow my lawn in 85F weather. Keep getting well and don’t overdo.

52, I’m also a non-negotiator type of person, so probably could afford more car if I worked at it harder, but so far they’ve fit in the budget. And I’d gladly be your FB friend, PM me your name there and I’ll apply.

Coppertone, nothing better than the Classics.

Truth. When I had mine I repeated them to myself 3-4 times quickly to lock them in and go them 2 minutes later.

Oopsie, glad you are still able to work around the data spill. And never had any problems with Wal-Greens on my prescriptions (I pick up, only 2.5 miles away). And Yay! for the deck fixing!

“No Coke—Pepsi!"

And it’s getting on to 9:30pm, I still have team lineups to make, and that 6:15 alarm keeps getting closer, so good night all and I’ll write again when I can tomorrow.

Did you ace those cognitive exams? :stuck_out_tongue:

:+1:

Here’s tonight’s card. A bit old lady, but that’s part of who I send cards to.

Thank you. I’m climbing out.of it, but it’s a rough ride when you think, “I quit,” at least every hour, knowing full well what that really means.

Yeah, the required weight of the rucksack is like 12 lbs. He scoffed and used a twenty pound rucksack. There’s a reason why he spent the rest of the day with his feet up,

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday. It’s also 73 degrees Ferret Height(22.778 Centipedes)
Tonight with Spot so far:

{{{{Mollie}}}}

All I wanted was a Pepsi

I hope tomorrow is a “kick-ass top of the mountain” day.

Or, at least, a peaceful flowery meadow?

{ glares in her best Aretha impression, complete with stained apron }

Sometimes, ya gotta pee on the electric fence put your hand on the stove figure it out for your own self.

Lawdyalmighty is there anything better than a long shower after a sweaty hot day?

Completed with kitty snuggles, some doctored-up no-longer-vegan black bean soup, and a spicy beef Jamaican patty.

Yes, I’m taking some chances on fud. Ground beef, sausage. We all gotta go sometime.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and a chance of rain. Weather app says “Better get your fucking umbrella.” Quite right, it’s raining right now - hurrah!

Lily we’ve been to Vancouver twice, loved it both times. Hopefully we will be returning to Canada, possibly next year, but probably not in time for a Mumpfest :frowning:

Mollie congrats to Fang on his achievement, I am glad you kept the pic of his feet to yourself! I much prefer the pic of Chloé, she is a bundle of cuteness.

Oopsie I’m glad you were able to work around the spill, and good news on the deck repairs!

VanGo take care of yourself, no need to rush the mowage either.

Yesterday was a good irk day for me. I had a discussion with non-troublesome minion about the proposed changes to our admin structure and he was very positive about it. He raised some concerns which are quite valid, and seemed happy that his worries would be taken into consideration.

After that, we chased around for some last-minute marking which got done so I was able to complete a batch of reports that have been approved by the person who needs to do that. I also got in touch with our Wellbeing team about my list of problem children but I will need to wait until Tuesday for a final update on those because that’s the deadline for submitting extenuating circumstances applications. Then I need to work out what to do with their current student record as we move onto the completely new system for the 2026-27 academic year, and some of them may still have records stuck in 2025-26.

Came home, did evening chores, made chicken curry, cleaned up afterwards and watched “The Sheep Detectives” which was a fun little film. I was very disappointed that Brett Goldstein’s character(s) didn’t manage to shout “fuuuuuuuck” at any point

Today’s plans have been scuppered by the weather. We were supposed to have a tombola stall at a local animal sanctuary’s family fun day but they’ve cancelled because of the weather. Sensible decision because everything’s held on their fields so it would be boggy by now, and very slippery for walking on. Instead, I am off to a local supermarket to collect the contents of our donation bin, I have a few bits of shopping to do while I’m there, then I’m off to the hairdresser afterwards.

I need to take some stuff I’ve been storing since the last Pringo Night along with the donations over to Little Paws HQ. I had intended to go straight from the hairdressers but 'im indoors asked if I could go later so he could come along too. He wants to fuss all the cats
