I also wanted to see the eclipse. I even stayed up late enough but then senior moment and it slipped out of my mind.
Yesterday started early as I went to take care of BF’s dog, 2 cats, 4 fish, 2 birds and 6 chickens. If anyone is counting that’s one less dog, one less fish and one less bird than when I took care of her animals in May. I brought home 2 freshly laid eggs and made an omelette for Hubs and me.
Went to Kroger and purchased enough that all we needed was another purchase of $56.51 on Friday in order to make it to 2000 pts. Daughter and her girlfriend went to Kroger late night and bought almost $55 which brought us up to 1993 pts. Hubs and I went back and purchased some tortillas and ice cream bars and we ended the night with 2017 pts. So that will give us 2 fillups in September at $1/gallon discount.
I need to finish sheveling and get on my horse and ride >>> to go take care of animals. TTYL.

No real plans for the day which is always fine by me. We will hone our RDOS sloth skills. There are various things in da fridge that need to be eaten up, so that will comprise the day’s main need to feed.
I have to say this. I do feel that those wellness exams are pretty much a joke. However, my father, one of his brothers and his sister all had alzheimer’s. Therefore, I do worry about the possibility due to genetics and stuff. That fact is even in my medical notes at the doc’s office cause I felt it worth a mention.
Coppertone while not a huge car person, I do love a classic car show. A classic car show with a good band would be a good time.
Lily honestly I was more worried I would forget the umbrella I had with me and had put on a shelf by the door of the exam room.

Kitten_Mitten my sis was a pharmacy tech before she became a RDOS. She would go and take care of the animals on her boss’s farm when he and his family went on vacation. They had chikins, goats, sheep and barn cats. Sis always had a blast doin’ it plus she got fresh aigs every day. I went with her a few times. The goats and the sheep liked attemtion. They were definitely pets!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

When I was moving files from the older computer to the newer, I came across pics from when you visited DC and we had a mini-Dopefest lunch. And for the life of me, I can’t find them now…
That’s why I use my Alexa so much. I have a standing reminder to take my evening meds and check that the garage door is closed. Plus it’s my laundry timer/reminder, my cooking timer, my appointment reminder… all that stuff that I used to keep in my head without problems. Sometimes AI is useful and not creepy.
Today starts with 65 Ferrets, heading for the low 80s - our last semi-pleasant day before next week’s blast of 90s. Ick. I don’t think we have any plans. FCD is still abed - he stays up long after I’m sleeping, or trying to sleep. It seems that without assistance, I get about 6 hours a night. I don’t know if that’s enough - I’ll ask my doc about it at my next appointment.
Ziva was especially weird yesterday - I never saw her. She stayed under the bed, tho she did come out to eat and pee - I heard her while I was in bed. My morbid side lay there remembering the time I found our kitteh in rigor mortis under out bed (20+ years ago) and I really don’t relish a repeat, but it’s very likely. Now that I think of it, I found 2 of our cats dead and 2 paralyzed, so I had to take them to be put down. There’s a happy thought to start the day.
Daughter’s b-day is next week. I messaged her and asked what her preferred gift card would be and she mentioned a particular website. I couldn’t find a gift card option, but I did sign up for a new-customer 50% off deal. So I told her to give me some specific links or to come over and shop (up to a specified limit) and I’d order with my coupon. So we’ll see when that happens.
For now, tho, surfage before my day really starts. Happy Saturday!
Morning all. I coach the U10’s at 8am, the U7’s at 11am, and then referee at 2pm and 5pm, so (presuming I survive), probably won’t be back here until late. Can’t blame anyone but myself, I signed up for all of it so hopefully have built enough time in-between to refresh and recuperate. Only 69F now, so at least the first game should be comfortable, but heading to 90F, so the afternoon will not be.

September, on the other hand, will be tough to get even to 1,000.
swampy, yeah, it can be tough, I try to keep track of those boys who play less in one game so they get more time in the next game, but some miss a game or three and that makes it even more complicated. I do my best.

It’s 59F and cloudy, with sunrise about six minutes away. We have an almost 50% chance of rain, with a couple of showers around 7:00 a.m. I don’t believe we’ll get any rain, but I want to be wrong. After that, the day will be mostly cloudy, with a daytime high of 69F. I don’t mind the cooler temps at all!

I negotiated car prices when we bought used, but I don’t remember doing too much of it when I got my Jeep. She was brand new when we got her. I can’t believe it’s been over 12 years since I’ve been driving her, and I have barely over 80,000 miles on her.
And, as of 6:29 a.m., the sun has risen, and some raindrops are falling. I had to stop typing to get myself another cup of coffee.

I really don’t have much on the agenda. I puttered around in the garden yesterday, deadheading, pruning, pulling tiny weeds, and snapped some pics that I posted on the book of faces. I cleaned the kitchen, swept, and that’s about it. I am getting good at this RDOS stuff, but I should get busier. I think I need to take up daily walks again. That would be good for both my waistline and my health, and it gets me out of the house.
Well, I suppose I should get at it. Please take care of yourselves. As I’ve said so many times, you are all an integral part of my day, and I love being part of this little community.

Not sure what I’ll do the rest of the day. Need to make a plan soon or I’ll end up lazing away the day. Tomorrow is the 12th anniversary of Dad’s passing so Hubs, daughter and I will attend a mass in his memory.
When I got out of the shower, she was waiting to get in and have a drink. I guess a wet shower floor is more refreshing than a bowl of fresh water… But then, she’s always been a bit weird.
The cruise departs April, 2028, so there’s lots of time to plan something. Unless, of course, some idiot in DC declares war on Canada.
I just finished assembling the cedar planter I bought for the back porch. FCD is going to make something to go under the feet, since steel angle directly on a deck isn’t a great idea. I won’t be planting anything till spring, so I guess I’ll take it down to the basement till then.
I think that counts as productivity. But I sure don’t feel like doing anything today. I should probably thaw something for supper.

Good morning, all! At 10:28am it’s mostly sunny and 73°F, with an expected high of only 83. One more nice day before the heat returns tomorrow and sticks around all week. It seems like there might be a little breeze right now, too, from what I see outside my home office window…which I tried opening again earlier, when the temp was in the 60s, but I still can’t get enough leverage because of having to reach over the desk. It’s a big L-shaped metal thing, so moving it is out of the question. I’ll just have to wait until someone taller/stronger than me is here[1].
I had vague notions of going to the grocery store this afternoon, and maybe also the local Bricks & Minifigs (to sell my extra Lego pieces…and, of course, look around), but I find that I’m kind of peopled-out. I genuinely like my boss and co-workers, but two full days of group work in a conference room has me craving some hermit time. So, I no longer plan to leave the house today. I’ll finish building the Seinfeld set at lunchtime, and then I think I’ll tackle a Lego display reorganization project that I’ve had in mind.
I find myself with some completed sets that are too long/wide for the glass shelves I use, which are currently arranged as seen here (just three of several shelves):
Over the weekend I realized that pushing the shelves together would solve the issue – while also creating room for additional shelves. I’ll need to temporarily relocate the assembled sets, move the shelves, then reorganize and return the assembled sets. It will be time-consuming and delicate work, and I might not finish it today, but I think I’ll be happy with the results.
CVS is only 1 mile from the house. But the pharmacy is usually annoyingly busy and I can always wait 2-3 more days to get those two scripts, so the $5 to have them mailed is worth it to me. I go in person every three months for my other prescription, though, because it’s refrigerated.
I agree that it was a fun movie. Sheep are among my fondest memories from the years my family lived in Yorkshire, and I thought the CGI was really good. The cast and script were definitely wonderful, but they couldn’t have saved unconvincing sheep!
Mom’s 11th anniversary is in a couple of months.

I’m hoping it’s just like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, and my brain’s just turning into goo as part of the process of turning into new Dr. Me.
Very lazy day; barely dragged myself out of bed before noon (hey, I’ve not got much more studenting left, I need to cram the appropriate behaviour in!). I’ve barely the sofa, just to potter in the garden a bit and nip to the local big chain garden centre, because the winter lettuce seed I sowed a few weeks ago turned out to be dud. They didn’t have what I wanted (well, technically they did, but really overpriced) but did have a nice heavily discounted Siberian iris, and I’ve been after one, so it wasn’t a complete failure.
One of the plans for when I finally finish writing is to dig up the whole front flower bed and rearrange it, because although there’s some plants looking great in there it wasn’t planned at all, everything was just shoved in as space became available as I was clearing the gravel off the top, so some stuff is totally swamping other stuff.
I’ll go to the smaller independent garden centre tomorrow, cos the trip did remind me it’s bulb planting season; they sell 'em loose and normally far cheaper, and if I’m gonna get fleeced buying seeds I’d rather it was by them.
I’m going to go potter in the garden a bit, but I expect that’s the limit of today’s excitement or productivity.
Good morning. Mrs Magill was tired from being everyone’s* Band Mom last night. She did a little bit of everything at the game last night, from concessions to recoding the shoe from the top of the press box. I let her sleep in while Chloé and I walked to make up for missing yesterday. We saw all the neighbors and their pups, and she made sure I had something to deposit at every dog waste station on our route. I have no clue where she’d been keeping it all.
The Band paid tribute to our neighbor who is greatly lamented. There was also a fantastic sunset, just before their halftime show:
The nice thing about being on medication is that the valleys are more Shenandoah and less Grand Canyon. The nice thing about addressing the root cause of my issues is I visit the valleys less often than before.
Fang told me he packed his ruck to the weight he had to carry in ROTC, which was eight pounds more than was required for this ribbon. He was still in the top 25% of those who’d taken the challenge.
I’m now catching up on the MMP while I finish my coffee, then it’s shower time.

Mrs. L.A. bought some farm eggs this week. This morning, I scrambled four of them and made bacon for our breakfast. Right after, I started shaking up stew meat in a bag of flour and salt, and searing them in bacon drippings and vegetable oil. A ‘generous’ four tablespoons of Gebhardt chili powder, another pinch of kosher salt, a sliced-up serrano chile, and two cups of water, and now it’s simmering on ‘low’ on the back element for a few hours. I loaded and started the dishwasher, and put down a bowl of water for the cats while the fountain is being washed. I took out the trash, and made sure the motorcycle still started.
I was going to make meatloaf for dinner tonight (church picnic tomorrow, so I can’t cook it tomorrow), but SWMBO suggested we go to Paso del Norte and share an early (15:00) molcajete meal. So I’m cooking the meatloaf now. She hopes there aren’t too many Trumpsters there. She perceives that more of them are coming to Blaine. I don’t know, but I’m not going to argue. I have seen a couple in Paso del Norte. Anyway, I’d planned to do the Car-Car Shuffle, move the bike out, take the flat off of the MG, and take it to a tire store to have them inflate it. I did receive the hose and tire-filler attachment for my Aqualung, but I think the tire needs an ‘instant inflation’ like the tire stores do. Which reminds me; I need to put the hose on the ‘spare’ first stage.
Low volume day. So low I didn’t have to help on the 300 Slide, and I was out by 1030. nobody tried to t-bone me on the way home, but The Weed Man did pull up next to me at the one light. I filled up the vermin feeder when I got home. Clothes are washed, and in the clothes dehydrator, and I’m having my bacon and eggs and (fancy)gin&tonic.
I’m being sulked at, because the hot tub is broken, and the mouse-tini was served at exactly the wrong temperature.
So a quick nap before Kawlege Handegg.

Now I got a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some.

So it’s not really cleaning, it’s merely evicted unwanted powdered houseguests.
Just a quick note, my coaching duties are done for the day (successfully, the U10 team won 5-4 and the U7 did the same 3-1). Came home and added some calories and refreshment before heading out to referee at 2pm and 5pm. Both are U10 games which are small fields so minimized running, but it’s 89F so even a little running is a lot of work. I’ll make it, but Sunday is going to be a lazy day I assure you.
Quick run-through, I have to leave in 10 minutes.
Cat Glove, yeah, I do the weekly survey for the points and save my major shopping for Fridays and the 4X points, but that’s the most I’ve ever acquired. Lot of it was coming home late from the July vacation and the usual July points at the end of the month went to August instead. Water and Gatorade on ice was with me and will be going out again for the referee jobs.

Grrr. The Scuba Dive Tire Inflator (right there in the title) doesn’t fit on the hose I ordered with it. The hose doesn’t have a quick-disconnect. The UPS store in Blaine has been sold, and the new company doesn’t do UPS. The nearest UPS store is 20 miles away, in Bellingham. I’ve ordered a new hose, which should be here tomorrow.
The meatloaf is smelling good. I think I may cover it with pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce this time. Haven’t tried that.
Another perfect (IMHO) day here! Started out with 48Ferrets, currently at 53F and will climb to a delightful 76F high. It’s overcast with small periods of sun peeking through. We even had a skiff of rain to start the day! More rain is in the forecast starting Wednesday – which is predicted to be a respectable amount. Fall is definitely on its way. Must finish gutter-cleaning.
We stocked the pond only once, then discovered it had plenty of natives without our help. Mostly brown trout. It attracts all manner of fauna. Hundreds of newts and waterfowl. There is a regular blue heron visitor. A mated pair of Bufflehead ducks used to regularly nest on it each year, and for awhile, there were two mated pairs of Canada geese.
Sadly, the pond sprang a new leak. Pond Guy and I anticipated this might happen and we could play whack-a-mole for awhile. He and his family are coming by tomorrow so he can work on it and his wife and kids can go hunt for mushrooms.
Re bats, oh, my, we have so many! I love to see them. Several in our area have been found to have rabies, though, so I’m careful. And Ollie doesn’t get to bat-watch.

Yeah, the lunar eclipse. As expected, I couldn’t see it. The moon was above the hill, but still obscured by trees. Oh, well. I’ll just remember the last one I saw through a skylight while lying in bed.
The past couple of days have been busy. Yesterday, I took the guitar in for its tuneup. Expensive, naturally, but the poor instrument hasn’t had any attention for about 20 years, so not really a surprise. Happily, not much is wrong with it. The luthier is extremely skilled and knowledgeable. We had a good natter and I learned some things. He said he’ll probably have it done by mid-October latest. The guy has a lot of guitars to work on. I enjoyed meeting him. And I’m happy, if a little apprehensive, to soon renew my love of playing.
While in town, I reprovisioned for the month. I tend to do one big shop each month and then fill in with fresh veg as needed from the farm stands or the local Safeway, depending on season. Got home, stuffed everything where it needed to go and then was immediately occupied with a couple of phone calls with friends. Ollie got exercised and fed somewhere in there.
This morning, I got out and picked lots more blackberries in the gentle drizzle. I’ve got more than enough for a batch of jam now. A couple more days of picking and I should have what I want for the year. I made guacamole for tonight’s dinner: Chicken fajitas with refried beans. Had some chipotle peppers that need using up, so perfect.
I guess it’s time to figure out something for “breakfast” – or whatever I should call the meal I eat this late.
I’ll also make a batch of pecan cinnamon rolls for Pond Guy and his family for tomorrow, but I won’t do that until later this afternoon. I can throw them together and refrigerate, then bake them in the morning.
