We took a little trip north to see a friend. We learned we could take a short harbor cruise on the Plover in Blaine.
Home from Long Night. 'Twasn’t too bad, getting out at quarter till is OKish.
I ate a decent amount at work so the need to forage now is low, but the desire to cocoon is high, so I shall shortly go to bed. For the time being, though, I’m tossing Monkey a few treats to chase, and snacking on bitter marmalade straight outta the jar, because, why yes, I was raised in a barn by wolves. Why do you ask?
Coupla pop-up showers earlier today, so while technically it’s cool, it’s humid enough for me to revive Coolio from their slumbers.
I have these in my current rental home - 1st time for me - and I quite enjoy them. Plus the lack of a pull cord means one fewer thing for a certain kitteh to muck around with.
The other ones I think are great are the kind that can open at the bottom OR at the top (Roman?) since you can get both sunlight AND privacy in street-facing windows.
Okay, I work 4-close again tomorrow (at least it’ll be an hour shorter than tonight) so imma brush my teefies & then go smush some pillows.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 20c/67f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Could be colder, could be fucking warmer. I wish the weather would make up its fucking mind.”
Mooom that was a fun day out, and you got to meet 'im indoors too ![]()
red all your cards are lovely, you’re so talented!
flyboy glad to hear you enjoyed your meal out, shame about all the tire troubles though.
Yesterday went well, despite the change in plans. I emptied the donation bin at a local supermarket (and popped in to get some cat treats), then went straight to the hairdressers, then home for lunch. 'im indoors wanted to come to Little Paws HQ so we went over there, dropped off donations and some stuff I’d been keeping here, had a cuppa and fussed cats.
I did some administrivia when I got back, and had some sofa time while he was making dinner. He did some kind of Korean-based chicken and noodles thing that he’d seen on a cooking programme. Far too much of a faff for something that tasted average. We watched “Masters of the Universe” which was exactly what you’d expect, then I went to bed.
Today we’re off to Rockwich, a small music festival in Cheshire. We’ve been several times before, it’s a nice venue and a very well-run event. Several of our gig friends are going so it will be a very sociable day. I need to sort out with 'im indoors about which t-shirt(s) he’s wearing so we can make sure we don’t turn up in the same one! We allow ourselves to wear the same band t-shirt but not the same design ![]()
We will be there long before we can check in to our accommodation so the current plan is for me to drive us straight to the venue, watch the first few bands, then convoy back to the hotel with a friend, we all check in and she will drive us back to the venue (she’ll leave her car there overnight) and we’ll get an Uber back to the hotel at the end of the night. I’ll drive her over to the venue in the morning to collect her car, then we’ll head into the town for food before we go our separate ways.
I’ve had a couple of cups of tea, and some breakfast, just need to get my stuff together and sort out the automated cat feeders for later. We should be on our way in an hour’s time, via the petrol station which is on the way to the dreaded M6.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 89 and cloudy with drizzle off and on, though there may be rain showers late afternoon. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty, so must serve both services. I shall also attend the group thang at three p.m. OYKW, havin’ decided to be a heathen, will get us lunch from somewhere and have it at da cave upon my return. I have a feelin’ it will be from Jack’s, which I have no problem with as their burgers and fries are very nummy.
doggio sorry about your Wolfpack.
MetalMouse hope you got a good night’s sleep after all that activity.
shoe glad irk went relatively OK. Enjoy sleep time.
BooFae enjoy the concert, Sounds like a fun time will be had by all.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and afternoon sloth are on the agenda. Spot is watching his show.
That rings a bell.
Cool
Awoke from dreaming that I ran into one of my high school French teachers - she looked very much like she did 55 years ago, tho a wee bit older. I remember thinking she probably wouldn’t remember me, so I was going to get my yearbook. But it turned out that I grabbed a catalog instead, and that’s when I woke up.
Not sure why I dreamed about her - it’s not like she was a favorite teacher. I liked her well enough, but the other French teacher was better. Then there was the Spanish teacher that I had a major crush on…
But I digress. I did a bit of calculating and it’s possible that the teacher in the dream could still be in her 70s - she was pretty young when I was in her class. Plus it’s highly likely she married, so I have no way of googling her. Even if still single, her name was ordinary enough that finding her would be purely a matter of chance.
It took me a little bit to remember that it’s Sunday. Time is almost meaningless in RDOS mode. We’re going to the boat today to install FCD’s latest project. Other than that, no real plans. We’re on the threshold of a hot week - one forecast shows upper 90s before it breaks next weekend. So this morning’s 64 Ferrets will soon be a mere memory, at least for a week.
And so it begins. Happy Sunday!
Awoke precisely four (4) hours after going to sleep, although I have a dim sense that I semi-woke when it started raining HARD.
Enjoying what I hope is a brief bio-break, before - with even more hope - going the hell back to sleep.
I think I missed a day here on the MMP. I might get caught up, or I might not.
Mollie_Magill sent a pic of a doggie with a level of cuteness that exceeds my vocabulary. Thanks for that.
The radio said it’s Fat Marmot Week.
I still haven’t done the unclog the bathroom sink thing. It’s an unpleasant task, and I’ve been putting it off. I need to anti-crastinate Ick.
Today is rainy, from now 'til nearly 1:00 pm.
Okay, onwards toward breakfast!
We took the ride last week!
Sadly, this might be Plover’s final season. ![]()
A new hose was waiting for me at the front door this morning. The valve fits, and the hose has been attached to the first stage regulator. ![]()
Morning all. I just might have overdone it yesterday, got 8 hours sleep and did my Sunday NY TImes run and am still feeling weary, so laziness and nappage may be called for. Doesn’t help that the weather report is showing temperatures in the 90’s all week, what a way to start September. Guess I’ll eat out at Metro Diner and see where I go from there.
Susan, nice little boat, but is it a cousin to the Minnow? But seals!
boo fae, enjoy the music.
Happy Vergering Swampy.
FCM, I know when it is Saturday because that is soccer coaching/refereeing day and Sunday is going out to dinner day, but I admit, Monday-Friday can be a bit hazy at times. Have a few teachers I remember from school, but presume I’ve probably outlived most all of them and never have tried to look them up.
shoe, hope the Sandman adds a few more grains of sleep dust for you.
doggio, love the pictures.
And that’s all for now, need to check my Sunday You Tubers and then get ready for Dining out. Have a good Sunday all.
I wonder if this used to be the recipe, or if a popular magazine posted a recipe with this tweak, as that is exactly how my mom/great aunt made theirs.
lilly that looks like a nice little excursion! And what a coincidence you & flyboy took the same trip a week apart.
I am also putting this task off - I think a cat dropped one of their small toys down it when I forgot to put the drain back on.
I moved up here in December, 2003. I kept meaning to take the ride, but I never got around to it. If this is Plover’s final season, I thought I’d better get to it. Fingers crossed that a solution will be found to keep her sailing, and for he dispute with Drayton Harbor Maritime to be settled to allow her to dock at Semiahmoo.
Up way too early this morning, on account of slugging out last night before making cinnamon rolls. Now they’re in process and I have a bit of time before next steps and time to rouse the hound. Starting off the morning with a delightful 44Ferrets and a projected high of 79F. All my windows are thrown open!
Sounds like you’ve got meals well covered for a few days, fly boy. Be sure to let us know how the meat loaf turns out. ![]()
52, exciting about new blinds! I’m sure once they’re hung, you’ll be glad you got it done.
Geese are smarter than they look. ![]()
red, I feel your pain re mixed-up scripts. I had a lulu of a fuck-up at the beginning of this year that cost me a lot, and I’m still fighting with the resulting problem a little bit. I did get it straightened out, but it took almost 3 months, so I’ve been playing catch-up ever since. I think we’ll finally be square (or as square as we’re going to get) in September. I hope you enjoyed your time in the studio!
Oopsie, your Lego build collection is truly staggering and they are displayed so nicely. Fun to hear about your binge-watching choices. When I can, I’ve been binging another Walter Presents show on PBS called One Step from Heaven. It’s another kinda-sorta detective show filmed in the Alps à la The Mountain Detective, only this one is in Italian and shot from the Italian side in and around the town of San Candido. The stories are thin, but I could look at the jaw dropping scenery all day – including the lead actor. My, my, my. It’s very silly and over dramatic with everyone in and out of relationships and hugging each other all the time, but it’s an easy watch. And the scenery. Did I mention the scenery? ![]()
Re public singing – I admire your past success! I’m sure you’ll do it again if it’s something you really want. You’ve obviously got the talent and the connections. I’ll be cheering you on!
I got my first guitar as a Christmas present when I was 9. Still have that poor old beat-up thing. I’m self-taught, meaning not very good. I bought my first guitar when I was 12 with babysitting money, a good old gut string Yamaha. The guitar that’s getting worked on I got in my mid-30s. It’s a classic Martin D-28 Herringbone. I was raised in the era of Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Dylan and the like, so those are the types of songs I learned. I prefer finger picking to strumming, though both styles are fine. We’ll see what happens.
Spot kills me and you always get the best photos of him!
Why not both? ![]()
Boy, have I got you fooled!
I do cringe to remember all your plumbing issues. I’m so glad you took the step of redoing the plumbing once and for all. Great outlook on working with the kids!
And if you lived close enough, I’d put by a couple of cinnamon rolls for you.
Lily, what a fun excursion! The pictures are dandy. Thanks for sharing them!
Have fun at the festival, BooFae! Looks like a fine time ahead, for sure!
Enjoy vergering, swampy, and then Jack’s. Mmmm. Burgers!
FCM, you make me glad I don’t remember most of my dreams. ![]()
Good luck with the bathroom sink, Knot. Bathroom tasks are never fun. I just changed out a toilet seat yesterday, inspired by a Mumper (was it Red?). Nice to scratch that little job off the list.
Chicken fajitas last night were ok, but I think I’d lose the chipotle peppers next time. Those flavors overwhelmed.
I expect most of my day today will be occupied with Pond Guy and his family. Ollie will be meeting children for the first time, so we’ll see how that goes. So long as they don’t encourage him to jump (bad for his back), it should be ok. I’d love it if the kids gave him a good chase around. Mostly I hope we get some success on plugging up that leak. This may not be the last rodeo, though.
Catch up with you all more later! Have terrific days, all!
Afternoon.
We have wet here today, though not enough to boat in. Not spotted any seals on the street yet either…
I followed yesterday’s plan and did a seed 'n bulb hunting trip. Neither smaller local garden centre had the lettuce seeds I wanted, but both did have plenty of bulbs at less than half the price of the chain place. Not only are they way cheaper, you can pick the ones you like rather than being stuck with what they think you should want. I got 40 bulbs; a mix of tulips, crocus and mini daffodils for outside, mostly to go under the apple trees, plus one hyacinth for inside which should flower around Christmas if I time it right, for about £12 total.
Also did some food shopping on the way home, mooched round the shopping centre trying to avoid the rain and picked up the new bathroom light from the shop, as it arrived 3 days earlier than it said it would when I ordered it online.
Good morning.
It’s 55F outside, and the sky above me is blue with high white clouds. Looking west, it’s very dark and cloudy. Today’s forecast calls for morning clouds and partly sunny skies for the afternoon, with a daytime high of 72F.
I very much enjoyed yesterday’s rain. It rained off and on through the early afternoon. Everything received a nice soak, and the plants loved it.
BooFae, I hope you enjoy the music festival.
Shoe, hope you’re getting some good sleep. I’m glad last night went well, and I hope tonight does , too.
Lily, that looks like a fun little trip. I read something recently about that boat and its troubles.
Bright Tree, I hope Pond Guy can fix the newest leak.
I have never been a fan of meatloaf with ketchup. My mother used to make a German-style meatloaf that included a whole boiled egg or two in the middle. It had onions, herbs, spices, eggs, and breadcrumbs. I make a meatloaf that includes Worcestershire sauce and doesn’t have ketchup. It’s been a very long while since I’ve made meatloaf. I’ll have to make one soon.
If it’s not one thing, it’s another here when it comes to house maintenance. Yesterday, we were in the midst of setting up my husband temporarily in the bonus room with his upstairs computer and VR racing chair, in hopes the WiFi would be better up there. The plan was that he’d be there temporarily, but would order a new desk for the den downstairs, and upon it’s arrival get rid of the two hulking behemoth desks here in the den, set up the new desk for him downstairs and he’d have both of his computers and all his VR crap in the den, and the bonus room would become my office.
Murphy had other plans for us. We plugged in his computer and stuff, and tripped the switch. Tried another socket; same thing. So, tomorrow, I’ll call an electrician to come out and look at what’s going on. The wiring has been wonky for a while. It kept tripping in that room when I was steam cleaning. Another socket in the upstairs hallway tripped when I plugged in the vacuum cleaner (on the other side of the house from the bonus room). And my husband would regularly trip the circuit when he tried to plug in the space heater last winter. So, we’ve got an issue. I don’t know whether the sockets are just old and worn or if we need a whole-house rewiring. It probably won’t be cheap, damn it. I’m kind of sick to my stomach over it, but I’ll wait to see what the electrician says.
While the electrician is here, I’ll find out how much it costs to wire the whole-house fan I had installed when I had the roof done.
Anyway, all that faffing about in the bonus room just sort of sucked any get-up-and-go that was in me. I need to wash the sheets and towels today, and might have two small loads of clothing to wash, too.
Bright Tree, I hope Ollie enjoys the kids and gets some exercise. I hope the pond thing is sorted. I may be going chanterelle hunting with my sister and her husband later in September or early October. Depending on rainfall, of course. It’s been so damn dry. I’m not sure I want to go with them; my sister talks non-stop, and it wears me out. I’d prefer to go alone, but my husband would lose his mind if I did that. The places I go now do have overly steep terrain, so it’s not like I’d hurt myself, but I can see his point.
Alright, I need to get that kitchen tidied up. Although I rinsed the dishes last night, I didn’t load the dishwasher, so I need to get that done. You all take care of yourselves, please.
Good morning, everyone! I’m fed and working on my second cup of coffee. Breakfast was eggs in a basket, have I ever mentioned how much I love fried bread? Mrs Magill had hers over easy. Chloé did the clean-up of the plates.
We played Call of Cthulhu last night. We didn’t get too far, I didn’t notice the rye I’d brought was 100 proof, so I had to call it after three hours.
Yesterday morning, the doorbell rang. A couple of Democratic canvasers had seen my “In this house, we believe” garden flags. They wanted to make sure we were planning to vote. We now have a sign for the Democratic State house candidate in our yard, saving us a trip to Franklin.
Doggio - The thing about being a State fan is being used to disappointment.
You are a cruel and horrible person.
As does Mrs Magill. We have several pints in the deep freeze.
Lily and Flyboy The Plover looks like it would be perfect for a three hour tour.
Cat Glove and Shoe - I don’t think I’ve seen blinds with a pull cord in decades.
Taters - I concur. Ketchup makes Meatloaf too sweet. I use a blend of ground pork and lean ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, and dijon mustard. The glaze does use ketchup.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP / supper prep. Not a whole lot shaking except going back to CVS today.
Y’all have a great day!
Maybe it’s because I didn’t grow up eating that way, but I don’t like the glaze either. Mine doesn’t have a glaze, but it’s delicious.
Finally ordered my granddaughter’s birthday presents. Because I dithered, they’ll arrive one day late, but it’s not the end of the world.
74F and overcast this morning.
We went down for our weekly biscuits and gravy breakfast. Sadly, the gravy was nearly tasteless, too watery, and had very little sausage in it. Very disappointing. The coffee was also oddly tasteless. The banana was good.
I think I’ll harvest our herbs today and get them dried out in the oven. After some research, it seems that the best method is to put them in the oven with just the oven light on and the door cracked open to allow moisture to escape. Takes longer than in a heated oven, but there is no chance of overheating the herbs.
