(Old) Digging things up in the MMP

I don’t have to, but it’ll be easier for me if we do. No worries about him knocking kids down or playing to rough - it’s tough enough watching out for Roxy and Tobias. He’s not mean, just so big and rambunctious. And, frankly, he’ll enjoy running around the farm and rasslin’ with Dolly. To me, that’s a win-win.

I printed out a pot roast recipe - not that I need to know what goes in it - I just wanted to get the timing instructions. After the corned-beef-and-mushy-carrots debacle, I’m a bit unsure. So now I’ve got a plan. And I’ve been to Aldi. In addition to the carrots (which it turns out I didn’t need after all) I got some salted caramel cream cheese spread to go with the mini bagels I bought the other day. It sounds absolutely decadent. YUM!

Resetting my car clock was easy - one button (labeled H) and one push advancing the hour one ahead. Which means 11 pushes come fall, but I’ll deal with it then. I’m also glad I saved the instructions for the bedroom clock because resetting it isn’t instinctive and I’ll forget by November. All that remain are the analog clocks in the living room and the basement. Oh, and the truck, not that we drive it often enough to matter.

My house plants need watering and I’ve got Daughter’s hall runner to clean for her (she forgot yesterday that she brought it to do herself.) It’s a fairly simple chore - the hardest part will be hauling the carpet cleaner downstairs. Or maybe I’ll spread it on the front porch… hmmmmmmmm

Anyway, time to give the plants a drink.

I have always enjoyed craft work. I picked it up as a cub scout and never lost interest. I have always hemmed my own jeans and sewn on the patches I seemed to accumulate. My mother in law was an avid quilter, and when she passed away there were some that were not finished. My wife gathered them up and said “How hard can it be?” Little did we know…

We went to a quilt show years ago. There was a guy with a booth that was demonstrating a technique called English Paper Piecing. This uses card stock pieces. The fabric is basted on to these pieces and then sewn together, all done by hand. It appealed to my inner Boy Scout. I eventually made a quilt using this technique:

My wife suggested that I try working with a sewing machine. I tried hers for a bit and then bought my own. As a RDOS, I can’t just sit around and watch TV, so quilting keeps me entertained and occupied.

I am the ONLY male member of the Omaha Quitler’s Guild…

I know the description of paper piecing is maybe hard to understand so here is a picture of that quilt in progress:

(Note my furry assistant..)

hippy, that quilt is gorgeous.

I hate DST. Takes me about a week to adjust. This morning I’m tired and cranky, which isn’t much different from most mornings.

Just finished cleaning Daughter’s hall runner. For a relatively small rug, it generated a lot of hair and crud! I even vacuumed it first, but I guess it took water to break the rest of the hairs loose. It’s spread on the front porch, awaiting pickup. There are still a few spots that didn’t come out despite spraying with OxyClean rug cleaner - she can deal with that. I don’t mind running my carpet cleaner, but I draw the line at getting down on my knees to clean up her mess. :stuck_out_tongue:

I also refilled the dog kibble bucket from the 40# bag in the garage and I gave Otis his midday kibbles - with carrots today. He lurves him some carrots! And I’ve opened a few windows to let fresh air in since it’s passed the 70 Ferret mark. And yes, I did turn the furnace off.

FCD has gone to Lowe’s and the marina to plan what we’ll do tomorrow. I think my next, and last, chore (till I start the pot roast) is watering the house plants. Guess I better get to it.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 10c/50f and cloudy. Weather app says “At least you won’t fucking freeze to death when you lock yourself outside in your fucking underwear.” So far, that hasn’t happened!

Can I burn it to the ground and salt the earth but leave the Premier Inn, Nightrain and the City Vaults standing? That sorts out hotel, venue and food!

I think my alarm clock, the cooker clock and the one in my car are now the only ones I need to reset. We don’t do that until the end of March though, so it’ll be another 3 weeks before it happens.

Take care of yourself, see you soon!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I had a very enjoyable weekend. I was at the gym first thing on Saturday morning, then whizzed home to get tidied up, packed, cats fed and litter trays cleaned before we left. The drive up to Bradford was uneventful, little bits of traffic snarlings but nothing untoward. We arrived, parked in the car park next door to our accommodation, and went to the venue to see the first band of the day.

The venue is all of five minutes’ walk from the hotel so we skipped back to check in and get changed, then headed back to the venue for the second band. We had to miss a bit of one band in order to nip out for food at the nearby City Vaults pub, and made sure we were back for the last couple of acts.

Lots of fun was had, we went back to the hotel and decided to have a glass of wine there. ‘im indoors asked me which one I wanted and said it was my birthday, and therefore my choice. The lady staffing the bar asked us to wait a minute, disappeared off, and then came back with a bottle of my choice which she gave us for free. That was a very kind gesture

We checked out at midday, went to the City Vaults for lunch, then I drove us back home. I decided to go back via one of the local supermarkets with a petrol station as the tank was getting low. The prices at the pump had gone up from 125.9p to 131.9p and there was a small queue of cars. It didn’t take long to get through, and now Keith has a full tank again.

We got home, put fresh food out for the cats and changed the litter trays. I’ve unpacked stuff, given ‘im indoors my birthday pile of CDs so he can make them into MP3s, and I’ve put a load of dirties in the washing machine.

He’s cooking tonight and has promised me Chinese chicken curry and egg-fried rice because he knows it’s a favourite. I feel quite spoiled this weekend!

Plants have been tended and pot roast is starting to simmer for the next 2 anna half hours. I hear my recliner calling!!

My grandmother’s was yellow. There are a bunch of photos of me as a wee tot sitting and and standing on that stool.

Thank you for explaining this - this is way cool. And the quilt is gorgeous!

Belated happy birthday wishes for @scareyfaerie!

Every time I come to this thread, Little Richard’s song, Good Golly, Miss Molly, starts running through my head. Not sure if I heard it a lot because my mom likes it, or because of the daughter of their friend is named Molly. She was the first baby I saw in a hospital. They gave me a slip of paper with her mom’s name on it, which I held up to the window and then they showed me which baby was Molly.

Anyway, so I like the name Mollie. :people_hugging:

Today I finished the tax stuff and also made the last reservation for phase 1 of our summer vacation. Now I need to start looking at phase 2. My parents are happy I’m taking the lead, and they just have to say yes or no. And pay.

No time change today - got a few more weeks. Someday I hope we’re all on the same schedule again. Changing at different times is confusing.

Nelson has always loved baby carrots. When I used to pack my lunch for irk, I’d pack some baby carrots for my mid-morning snack. He always came out for one. Since Otis likes carrots, try some raw sweet potato.

Otis doesn’t like raw sweet potato. He does like cucumber peels as well as broccoli and cauliflower stalks. He doesn’t like celery.

Picky canine…

Visited a different church today. They had tacos afterwards!
Its 55 and sunny. Plan on laundry and hair washing and my favorite podcast tonight.
Hope the heat men come by tomorrow.

I cleaned, dusted and vacuumed. I took out the trash and recycling. I refilled the vermin feeder. It’s raining now.

Seems unimpressed with your progress.

Mrs Magill ia an evil, evil person. I was planning on making Tuscan Chicken with roasted root vegetables for dinner tonight, but right after Squeaky left for his new job at the Whataburger, she suggested that we should eat there. It would mortify him. I’m in!!!

Howdy y’all! I survived two services and acolyte trainin’. Poor Priest survived as well, but had it worse cause he had to preach and celebrate Communion for both services. This after he was in Savannah yestiddy for a Diocesan Council meetin’. The next trainin’ will be about lightin’ candles. That one is sure to be a hit cause it means play with fire. It was rainin’ when I left the church house, so the rain showed up earlier than expected. It also went away sooner. Nappage was sorely needed this afternoon. The leftover pot roast will get et tomorrow as neither of us wanted big food today, so we foraged sup. We watched Downton Abbey The Grand Finale and greatly enjoyed it. In trash related news, the biiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.

MOOOOOOM dangitall! Now I shall have to go to Aldi’s and buy salted caramel cream cheese spread and mini bagels.

Lily though you won’t see this, enjoy your intartoobz break.

Hippie those quilts are gorgeous. Then again, with a hard taskmaster like Ralphie, I am sure you are afraid to turn out anything that’s less than perfect.

BooFae selective scorchin’ and saltin’ seems perfectly reasonable to me. That was a nice bday present from the bar lady.

Coppertone Jesus and tacos sounds like a win-win to me!

Mollie havin’ his ‘rents show up at his irk place will surely mortify Squeaky! How delightfully evil of y’all!:ogre:

Sounds like a country song, Jesus and Tacos.

Good evening all. Dined at Logan’s Roadhouse (love their meatloaf) and then went to the gym, came home for a bit, and then went back to the gym for a second round, ended up burning lots of calories, so I could have cookies with my grilled cheese and bacon sammiches. Am sitting quietly now watching videos and relaxing until bedtime. The electric person is due at 8am tomorrow, so I need to be up bright and early for that.

FCM, figured out my car clock too, just had to move a button to Daylight Savings and it changed automatically.

Hippie, fascinating story of how you got into the quilting habit, lovely work.

I can take or leave DST, never have had much trouble adjusting to it.

FCM, there is a You Tuber called “The Half Husky Brothers” who has vids of her getting her two dogs to try various foods, with amusing subtitles for the canines. Here is the most recent example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DB5yp-y3zo

boo fae, you always seem to have the funnest weekends of anyone. And I haven’t been watching gas prices too closely, but I suspect they are not going down around here either…

lily, enjoy the break, hope to see you soon.

Dicey, enjoy all the phases of summer vacation. Need to re-check mine to make sure everything is square.

Coppertone, church and tacos sound like a good combination.

Mollie, yeah, embarrassing the youth of America is one of the great pleasures of being parents.

swampy, glad you survived.

And that’s all I gots. If I don’t get back to here, catch y’all on the next MMP.

Mrs Magill got some photos of a chagrined. Squeaky. It was glorious.

That’s what I had. With mashed potatoes, collards, and black eyed peas. And a Wisconsin Old Fashioned.

Well, I can tell that the main reason you do such exceptional work is the good supervision!

Thanks so much for explaining how long arms work and for sharing how you became such an amazing quilter!

You will be missed. When come back, bring kittah pictures.

You two are my kinda people! Hehehe!

Just stopping in to say that I didn’t get arrested. Actually, after that little showdown with ICE, nobody “official” has shown up since. There are more angry people though. WV almost worships their military kids and we’ve already lost two to trump. They don’t want to lose more of them.

Very tired though. DST didn’t get me, I just haven’t been sleeping well lately.

George is liking this changing of the clock thing, he gets his gooshy fud early. I’m not looking forward to the whining in six months when it is late again.
