This was a series starring patrick mcGoohan-who was an english pason during the day, but a subversive at other times-the “Scarecrow”. I wasn’t sure just what he was trying to do…but he and his band fought with the British army…he was some kind of underground rebel.
Anyway, is the series obtainable?
Do you mean this?
It was the Scarecrow of Roney Marsh. I saw it again several years ago when they decided to run old episodes of “Wonderful World of Color” in syndication.
I haven’t heard of it being available separately, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they planned on releasing it as part of the “Disney Treasures” series. And since it ran in syndication since the advent of VCRs I’ll bet bootlegs are out there.
After a very quick look, I found this:
Dr. Syn.
Also known as the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. There are at least two versons, "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh," and "Dr. Syn Alias the Scarecrow". The second a re-edited and shortened version of the first.
They ran the miniseries on "Wonderful World of Disney" when I was a kid. My fater bemoned the fact that it had all the neighborhood boys running arround for weeks in homemade "scarecrow" masks.
On preview, I see i was too slow by several.
Beat by a minute! That’s what I get for doing a more thorough search.
And the “m” didn’t register. I did type “Romney Marsh”.
It’s funny, because I live near “Rumney Marsh”, and every time I see the sign I think of McGoohan.
JFTR, the story was filmed twice before Disney, as “Dr. Syn” and “Night Creatures” (which makes it sound like a cheap horror film. Which might have been the intent.)
Here are a couple of pages on it. Evidently Dr. Syn: Alias the Scarecrow has been on VHS:
This just seems to scream “Bootleg”:
