(Old) Don't Sleep On The President's Day Sales - A Mattress MMP

I am not familiar with this concept of “too greasy” of which you speak.
Then again, nobody should take dietary advice from me.

I might’ve eaten them separately, but Spaghettios on toast would have been too much.

You’re a wonderful friend. I’m sure NF and her hubs will enjoy every bite!

Or me.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

These belong in the White People Making White People Food group on FB. :grimacing:

Yesh, my birthday was the first time Spot had been alone for more than a couple of hours, and he was one pissed off tuxedo. But enjoy robe day.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/47f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and cloudy. Weather app has got a bit giddy and says “The sun is fucking hiding. Ollie, ollie, oxen free, fucker!” OK, perhaps the weather app need to lie down in a dark room for a while.

Moooom big hugs to you and FCD, nothing to say apart from wishing for the best outcome all round.

Boo glad to hear you got to see your family and had such a good trip. The train ride home sounds fun too. Despite the trauma of commuting, I do love a good train trip!

Wheelie sounds like you had a great time, and a bonus memorable gig on top is always good!

nellie yay for good news with your daughter, but boo to your son’s health woes.

Oopsie I bet Bailey was happy to be home too, you must have missed each other.

Pilot your housemate’s story sounds like a proper soap opera, but I would like to think that dealing with estate rather than divorce will give her closure and at least assure her that the future is truly hers to play with.

WetOne here’'s to a pain-free and stress-free bit of aftercare.

Aspenglow I was intrigued on a visit to NZ, we stopped off in a small town and went to a café that offered mince on toast on their menu. Wasn’t quite ready for that but did decide to try it later at another place. Turns out it was more like bolognese on toast - different, but very tasty! Baked beans on toast with cheese on top is pretty common here, not sure I’d do it with spaghetti hoops as the taste isn’t quite the same, but it wouldn’t be that unlikely.

Nothing much in my day today, I have a couple of irk meetings but they aren’t likely to throw up anything untoward. My amusement for the morning came from the idiot neighbours either side of us. I am pretty sure one of them waits for the other to haul their biiiiig bin out for collection. I didn’t put mine out until this morning because I knew I’d be up and about long before the binmen come round here. I also know that today is our recycling bin’s turn to get emptied. The idiot neighbours either side of us have put all their bins out - we have a black one for recycling, and either a small brown bin for general domestic rubbish or a larger green one (also for general domestic rubbish).

Both neighbours have put all their bins out, not sure what they think is going to happen because the recycling won’t collect the brown and green bins, and will check the contents of the black bin before it goes into the cart. They’ve had a campaign about checking before you chuck, since the cost of dealing with contaminated recycling runs to about £185,000 which is money the council could easily use elsewhere. We’ve had a social media campaign, stickers on our bins, and a visual check by the binmen. Now they are refusing to empty a bin containing any non-recyclable items and instead they put an orange tag on it so the household know they need to remove the non-recyclable stuff before the bin can be emptied.

This kind of thing really makes me wish I still had my NextDoor account, it will be an absolute flamewar in there!

One GORGEOUS pissed off tuxedo.

Awake. stressed out because of tooth appointment and hair. I figured out my week without my vitamind d is probly the cause of it. Its not just thinner, its breakage. Its down past my boobs, just noticed the front parts are to my armpits. Lost 4 inches off of them! Hope my dr. Gives me the extra D I need. I had been taking 2000 a day.
Hoping to get more sleep in, appointment is at 11.
Should be back by 2, send me good thoughts😵‍💫

I’ll give it the varsity college try.

First I have to get home from the train station. Been waiting for LYFT for more than an hour.

Meaning a that much more passed off kitty who isn’t going to be pleased that I’m going to head directly for my bed and shut the bedroom door in her winsome little face. Sleeping on the train from Denver didn’t happen. I’m tired and edging up on cranky.

I just rocketed past cranky to pissed off geezer old lady.

Waited one and one half hour for Lyft to show up. He was in a Suburu Impreza. He took a look at me and my bags and very rudely said they wouldn’t fit and he drove off, leaving me standing on the curb, in the cold, at 4:30 in the morning, with my oxygen moments away from running out.

My son drove me to the Denver station in a Suburu Impreza. This driver just couldn’t be bothered to try. After I waited 90 minutes for a Lyft driver to take the trip.

Theoretically they are looking for another driver for me. My train arrived almost two hours ago.

The Lyft app will be deleted from my phone after I deliver my review of their service. And proceed to tell the next 100 people I meet of the shittiness of Lyft service in Lincoln. I make even make a rare Facebook post about it. Cover your ears.

And as it happens, it’s the absolutely correct opinion!

Got enough cheese in there???

Waaaaaay back in the early 80s when I was working in the Pentagon, one of their snack bars had a weekly lasagna day. They made it by stacking 6 lasagna noodles in a pile and pouring tomato sauce over them. I tried it twice, thinking the first time someone had goofed. Nope, that was their recipe. To this day, I shudder to recall.

Because sheets of drywall are 4’X8’ - so you don’t have to cut any! OK, that might not be the reason, but then again…

BBBoo - hope you’re on your way. Might I be so nosy as to ask why you didn’t just call a cab? I should think they’d be more reliable than some guy and his car, not that I’ve ever used Uber/Lyft, nor have I been in a cab in decades. Just curious.

My body apparently thinks 6-7 hours of sleep is sufficient. Lately I’ve been falling asleep between 10 and 11, and waking around 5. It’s irritating because I don’t have to be up early, but I always am. Even when we were on vacation. I do enjoy my morning quiet time, but I think I’d enjoy another hour of slumber just as much.

Not sure what today’s plans are, since our vacation shifted my laundry day from Tuesday to Firday. I’m so confused!! < snerk > I assume we may find out more about MIL’s condition today, depending on what tests they’re able to do and what the results are. But, frankly, I’m pretty sure the condition is: 92-y/o woman who’s dying. I don’t mean to sound cold, and I’m not sure I’d react the same if it was my mother rather than MIL. But really, what else is there at this stage?

Speaking of my mom, I’ve been meaning to call her since we’ve gotten back. I should do that today. So I guess that’s one plan. And maybe make some potato soup?

Not a lot of ambition there, huh?

Happy Tuesday!

Mornin’all. Clear, a bit pre-dawn now, 52/11 outside (BRRRR!R!R!!!) on the way up to 70/21. I’m hiding in bed, something I rarely do, because my housemates decided they wanted to open up all the doors overnight to air the place out. WTF? My room is closed off and warmer, but not great. A hot shower, a fast dress, and out for breakfast is probably my smartest move. Although finding a warm-enough restaurant is also hard down here. Places just aren’t set up for it.

So Boo and I have shared a too-cool overnight.

Do you mean you hotel is at the airport or that your hotel is somewhere in the greater Dallas Fort Worth metroblob?

If you mean the airport, then that’s a 30 minute drive to the museum by the time you park. As long as it’s not during the morning or evening rush. Then it’s an hour. Dallas area traffic is dense, fast, and aggressive. Until it clots, then it’s dense, slow, and aggressive. It’s definitely the Big Leagues.

As to lasagna in general, it’s easy from the POV of 2024 to forget just how far we’ve come in our lifetimes in terms of widespread distribution of specialty food ingredients. In 1960 even big city grocery stores had real limited variety and small town country grocery stores had none.

Boo the problem isn’t Lyft as such.

Cabs, Uber, and Lyft are all unreliable at 3am. There are very few customers, and they’re scattered around town which means lots of wasted non-revenue driving from one fare to the next. And most of the customers are drunk. So nobody wants to work those shifts. You’d have had a totally different experience at 3pm.

For wee hours travel you really need to pre-arrange something days before. And ideally with a reliable friend, not a cab company. Both the managers and the workers have no sense of professionalism and if you get stranded they simply don’t care. The companies are flaky, the workers are flaky, the cars are flaky. The reason uber & lyft are killing the cab companies is that by and large they aren’t flaky. Most of the time.

Good morning, one and all.

It’s 43 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly raining, after having just had a downpour. The expected high is 55 degrees Fahrenheit, with steady rain in the morning, tapering off to showers in the afternoon.

FCM, I continue to send my best wishes to your family and MiL.

I used to make a rather fancy lasagna back in the day (well, it was fancy to me). In the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, we called it the $50.00 lasagna because of the cost of the ingredients. It would be a lot more now. I haven’t made it in years. The cost of the cheeses alone was what drove up the cost. I made the sauce from scratch, too.

nellie, boo for your son being ill, but yay for your daughter’s progress all around. It’s funny the kids and I rarely talk over the phone. We tend to message via Messenger for the most part and “talk” nearly every day.

BBBoo I would have rocketed to rage at about the 40-minute mark but would have gone nuclear if a driver had done that to me. That is unacceptable.

Lily, I meant to congratulate you on the book! Congratulations!

aspenglow, that is hilarious. To be polite, I would have eaten a few bites and then left it. Not a fan of Spaghettios to begin with, but that just sounds atrocious.

My plans for today call for work, work, work, and more work. Tomorrow and Thursday, I will have to commute to the office since a Jump Team will be there to assist and provide advice for the whole records management initiative. Thursday is absolutely the worst day to commute to and from the office. Traffic will be horrendous on the drive home, especially since I’ll stay later. Tomorrow, I leave early for an appointment. I made the appointment before the rest of the management team decided these were the only days that would work for them. They’ll have to soldier on without me. Is it a life-or-death appointment? Nope, it’s for my hair, but I have to book over a month out to get in, and I’m not waiting any longer. My last haircut was almost three months ago.

Well, damn. Sounds like the pups need to go out again. Gotta go.

Up, after fitful sleep. I don’t want to do this, but if the tooth has gone bad after over 3 years of an unfinished canal, its not doing me any good, and aching at times.
I would’ve gone to the referred endodontist, to see if it could be redone, but the wait was 5 months.

Ugh - tooth problems have to be among the worst. I know Spousal Unit has had to have several root canals and he suffered.

Of all the things I have wrong with me, teeth ain’t among them. They’re all original issue and in decent shape overall. I’ve got an appointment for a cleaning on Mar 5, and I don’t expect any problems.

My hair is thinning, my eyes are crap, my hands are arthritic and my skin is saggy, but by golly, I gots good toofies!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 30 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 66 and N.O.S. for the day. Not much doin’ today except for laundry. Be still my beatin’ heart. High sloth shall make up the most of the day. Sup shall be chikin 'n dumplin’s with some sort of vegetative matter. I need some veggie inspiration.

Boo sic 'em! I cannot believe the driver did that. Hope you are home safe and sound and asleep as I post.

Wheelie glad everyone had a good time and yay for good concert.

Nellie sorry about your son’s health problems, but yay for daughter!

WetOne sounds like you have a good plan for dealin’ with the shots. That is the perfect reason to engage in some high sloth.

BrightTree ummm… ICK! Spaghettio’s are an abomination of Satan unto themselves but served on toast with cheese, well, I don’t think even Satan would do that.

Coppertone may the tooth yank be quick and painless as possible and the recovery an easy one.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Thanky.
The sugar place and nursing home both turned me down. I hate the- we decided to go in another direction b.s. what direction is that? At least the sweets places said I was good but there were lots of contenders and went with someone else. He even wished me well at the dentist.

Something I have noticed about uber/lyft. The vast majority of drivers keep their trunk completely empty. So allowing folks with luggage a place to put it.

A small few drivers have about half the trunk filled with their own crap. Which makes it a real problem for anyone with much luggage. I always travel with a roller case and a laptop bag or now larger carryon. Just me and those two pieces fits fine even with no trunk. But two folks with two sets of luggage are a no-hoper. And of course the smaller the car to begin with, the worse the problem.

I recall one memorable night at midnight in Austin when the airline had forgotten to arrange rooms for us and we were on our own. Found a hotel, rented two rooms, called an uber/lyft. Two pilots, two roller suitcases, two laptop bags. Guy shows up fairly promptly in a filthy rattrap ancient Toyota. The trunk was completely full of random crap. As was the front passenger seat of the car, mostly with trash. We pile the bags into one rear seat, pile the large copilot into the other rear seat and scrawny me shoves half the trash onto the center console and sits on the right half of the right seat for our 4 mile ride.

The driver was not amused to have me do that. But he took us there. I was torn between being angry at this blatantly substandard service from a company that tries to ensure its contractor-delivered product is high quality and feeling sorry for this poor middle-eastern (?) immigrant bastard trying to earn a living the only way he can given his lack of English and Spanish, his crap car, most of his possessions in the trunk, etc.

The folks driving cab (of whatever brand) in the wee hours are the desperate ones.

Pretty much describes me, except on the male side of the equation. And I hope the tooth problem gets solved with a minimum of trials and tribulations, Coppertone.

BBBoo, here’s hoping you finally did get home, getting anywhere at 4am is not easy no matter where you are. Agree with Pilot, better to have arrangements made if you can before getting in.

Never have used Lyft and Uber has provided good service around here, but never tried to get them at 3am either. But the driver refusing you service is not understandable and should be reported.

Bright Tree, I’m not a Lasagna lover (in truth, except for Fettuchini Alfredo I am not a fan of most Italian foods) but the Spagetti-O’s and bread does sound like something I might have concocted in my early days on my own. And I imagine we all have certain foods/meals/.sammiches that would cause our fellow Mumpers to go Whaaaaaat?!?!

Taters, good for you keeping your appointment. Lack of planning on their part is not an obligation on yours.

Boo Fae, being single without pets to increase my trash loads, I usually put the bin out every other week (pickup is Thursday) and my recycles go out every third Thursday of the month, sometimes I skip a month if I don’t have a lot. Neighbors will be weird.

Sari, good to hear from you. Hope the routine settles down and you can get the dogs to the park.

wet one, hope the injections help and are not too painful. Enjoy your sloth-time.

Well, need to get the stuff out for Purple Heart to collect. Did a little more looking and have 3 full bags of clothes and other sundries for them. Hope it helps. Then will break fast and look towards what level of sloth I will have (except for gym time),

Take care all.

The story is about someone being asked to make an unfamiliar dish using only the ingredients to hand.

I’m sure most of us would struggle if boefae was visiting and asked for “bubble and squeak for brekkies”. Completely ordinary food containing semi-familiar ingredients, but if you’ve never heard of it, your first attempt to make it with what you have on hand is likely to be comedically bad.

Dammit, and now I’ve made me hungry for brekkies.

Roads?

Think “5-lane freeway” and you’re closer. Rush hour can be a mess, of course.

Think “5-lane freeway restricted to 3 while under construction to widen to 7 lanes, but the pickup trucks are driving 4-abreast anyhow” and you’ll be closer yet.

Miami is cocaine-fueled 3rd world reckless driving. Dallas is trumped up gun-totin’ aggressive driving. I’ll take Miami any day. Seriously.
