We’re not going to the lighthouse. SWMBO says she has too much to do. Anyway, it’s raining.
Back from my trip, visited a windmill, a small town with many old buildings, a chocolate factory (where I of course bought chocolate) and a ‘castle’ which is more like a manor house with a moat. Still was interesting and kept me out of trouble so worth it. Dinner in about 20 minutes and then packing up for the great disembarkation tomorrow morning.
FCM, glad you’re here, safe travels to Dover tomorrow.
And since I pretty much skipped lunch, it’s Dinner Time!!!
I was a bit concerned about Sadie yesterday, as she snubbed her food the entire day. This morning, instead of her usual chicken/gravy, I gave her chicken pate and she bolted down the entire can. I now suspect that something may be amiss in some of the canned food I get. While Fancy Feast gets high marks and is primarily made in the USA, some ingredients come from Thailand, which makes me suspicious. I mean, it is pet food, so may not be subject to the same standards as people food, and she could just be tired of the chicken/gravy, but to reject it out of hand for an entire day (and three different cans) is out of character. I’ll keep her on the pâté for today, and maybe try some seafood for a change.
Did the exercise thing. I’m going to move some stuff to the storage area downstairs today.
Unrelated to the trip, FCD has said he thinks I should cut my hair. Weird because the main reason I grew it long was because I thought he liked it long. It’s a pain to deal with, so after we get home, I’m getting it cut.
Good luck with the ramp, I hope she’ll use it. My dog wouldn’t use one because she could tell it was hollow underneath (I assume because of the sound) but man it would have made things so much easier! I did have luck looping a large bath towel under her stomach to create a sling so I could take weight off her back legs going up and down stairs and she would tolerate it.
Also, try canned tuna or canned cat food if the chicken isn’t tempting enough. The smellier the food the less they can resist it!
Maybe go to their town for a couple of days and you two lovebirds can pretend to be teenagers and sneak off for some canoodling?
Also, thanks for the info about hotel rooms and cards. I haven’t run into that before but sounds like I need to keep an eye out in the future…
Glad you made it FCM! Looking forward to your trip updates (whether here or in another thread).
metal mouse sounds like your cruise was a success! Safe travels back.
suntan lotion Did your reapplication go through the system ok?
It is Friday and I am done with work for the day and finding myself at a bit of loose ends. I had plans with two different friends fall through and everyone else seems to be either busy or out of town for the weekend. I’ll have to come up with something to do or I’ll have to clean my house, and that’s just a terrible fate.
A slightly coolor lest chaotic loading day today. I stopped and bought beer on the way home. The apartment has become the secret roly poly burial ground. And there was an earwig, but I yeeted him into the outside world.
Also I need to decide on what to have for cocktail hour tonight.
A real BBQ, as in slow cooked whole hog with vinegar sauce, or just grilling things and calling it a BBQ?
[Arnold Schwarzenegger]GET TO THE HOPPA![/Arnold Schwarzenegger]
Gordie never used one because he ate it.
Well, here’s the drudgery. Mrs. L.A. pulled weeds in the front yard, and now she’s lopping branches off of the cedars with the Cyndis. I lopped a few myself, and I cut them manageable pieces so that she can dump them in the back.
Long Night shift tonight. That’s plenty of drudgery.
Also, how’d I accumulate this much trash?
… ah yes, laziness & Jungle deliveries.
At least Monkey has had new boxes to explore.
I grew up in the Midwest and bbq was with sweet sauce. I’ve lived here in VA since ‘81 and IMHO the Carolina BBQ with vinegar is the only way to go! (with hot sauce and slaw of course)

We are home. It was a lovely drive, but we did see lots of evidence of flooding. The rivers and creeks are low enough that they could handle the water, but the runoff from the mountains to the creeks can cause problems.
WV floods. It’s kinda like wildfires in AZ. Nobody likes them, but they are just part of life so its best to find ways to live with them.
We didn’t see any homes or buildings full of water like the ones during the winter because the water had places to go.
Do the poppies still grow?
W00t!
Dang about GF being absent for a whole month, but I’m sure you will be able to find some way to keep yourself entertained.
BTW, you haven’t mentioned it in a while. Are you still golfing or did you decide it was just too silly for you?
I hope you get no more wake-up calls about house stuff.
I think you need to go to the nursery and look at posies. That’s my favorite way to waste a few hours
GG got lonely while we were gone and is now demanding worship, so I’ll be back later.
Whoa. I miss two days posting and had 170 posts to read. The joint is jumpin’! I’ve read all and retained some.
Has anyone had an itchy red spot on their arm after a Covid booster? I know Covid Arm is a thing, but everything I’ve read says that it starts several days after a booster. Mine started itching several hours after the booster. and has intensified to Wanna-Scratch-My-Arm-Off. (I’m not scratching at all.) You’re supposed to take antihistamines to relieve it, but I’m already ON antihistamines, so that doesn’t work. Topical Benadryl was zero help. Hopefully it goes away on its own soon.
My good chum from Wyoming days, V. called this morning. We’ve seen each other through hard times. Anyway, she’s suffering from anxiety right now and needed someone to talk to. I used to get anxiety attacks when I was in the nightmare marriage. (Ask your doctor about Divorce. Guaranteed to remove up to 500 pounds of excess misery.) Anyway, doc just put her on meds, but she’s upset because the doc said it’d take 3 weeks to kick in. I told her it takes UP TO 3 weeks to kick in, but she may feel relief sooner than that, and to remember that it’s already working to start rebalancing her brain chemistry. That seemed to help. Anxiety is a bitch.
I need to start on housework. Then I hace to walk to the PO and back before picking up King Max for his royal procession. (Is it a procession if there are only two critters?)
flyboy, I feel for you. If I were in your shoes, I’d–well, be smarter and trained to fly helicopters–sell the house. If your sister were healthy and capable of running her own life, I’d say keep renting it, but she’s not, and the crappola you’ve had to deal with is hard on you, body and mind.
Mooom, I missed the chance to say Bon Voyage! The trip sounds like it’s off to a good start. Are the key cards the kind you have to stick in a slot? The last few times I’ve stayed in hotels , you just had to tap your key on the metal plate thingie.
MetalMouse, hope your cold clears up soon and that you end up in the black, casino-wise. All that exercise means you’ll do great at the gym on your return!
Coppertone, rest assured, we really do read your posts and care about you. I always send you a mental hug. I want to reply to everyone’s posts, but that was taking so long, I had to stop myself, which means sometimes I fail to respond even to important posts, like yours.
You must feel like smashing that stupid computer. I know I would! What’s your favorite job you ever had? (Just curious. I don’t know much about your past.)
BooFae, “skip fires” sounds so much lighter than “Dumpster fires,” like tiny torches fairy creatures would carry at dusk. Not you or FCM, of course!
Aspenglow , I don’t water my fuchsia every day because it takes days for the top inch of soil to dry, which I’ve always heard was the determinant. I mist them daily, water twice a week, and use Miracle Gro every month because they’re in Miracle Gro putting soil, which fertilizes up to six months. Now I’m thinking I should feed them less MG more often. They have lots of blooms, but then, everything grows like crazy here. I wish they could talk so I could ask them if they’re feeling peckish. It couldn’t hurt them to do the MG twice weekly, could it?
Now, see, I want to reply to more posts, but this is so long already. Hugs to all!
Gotcha: In some hotels your key will let you select any guest floor; yours or not. In other hotels your key will only let you push the button for your own floor, no others. Which has a trap for the unwary. If a bunch of people get on and most of them don’t know the drill, there’s a dance where the person closest to the control panel is trying to be helpful pushing every else’s buttons but it won’t work. Then the elevator starts going up and floors get bypassed and silliness ensues.
Similar situation in that some hotels have a floor or two of fancy-pants rooms. And several more floors of ordinary rooms. A fancy-pants key will let someone stop on the ordinary floors, but not vice versa. Stay away from the rich people you filthy proles!
You two do you two, but sleeping more than a couple hours upon arrival in Europe is NOT a good idea. The faster you get acclimated to European time the better. You both want to be able to go to bed and to sleep promptly around your normal bedtime London time. If you’re just up from a 6 hour nap as normal bedtime on the London clock rolls around, you both will be royally scrod. You’ll have the same problem of being up overnight and wanting to sleep all the next day. If you succumb to that temptation … etc.
Like BBBoo said: IMO keep the travelogue here. It was good enough for metalmouse, it’ll be good enough for you.
The thought had occurred.
JtC - the problem was easily solved, but she had no way of knowing where to find the answer. So she’s good.
We’ve had a light evening repost and now chillage till sleepage. I need to check the Hoppa schedule for tomorrow. This time tomorrow, we’ll be on our way to Rotterdam. Huzzah!
At the beginning of a 4-week cruise? At least you could get it cut on the cruise ship. At least it might be an option.
Pilot’s mentioning of the dehumidifier has reminded me that we need to buy another fan, and we might get one with a filter. Hubby seems to be more sensitive to dust and pollen than he used to be. And the fan threw an error the other day, which went away after a power cycle. Since it’s our only fan, and it’s going to be in the 90s (30s) the next, having another fan might be a good idea.
And tomorrow morning I have a haircut at 7:45. On a Saturday. I know I chose it (better than noon and messing up the whole day), but waaah.
Thank you nell. My fave was dancer, as in around a pole. I loved it. Too old for that now.
I dont understand how my application disappeared, she hadnt sent me the job offer e mail yet. Now I cant reapply as I used up my 5gb for the month. I get internet but trying to get on Indeed was taking an hour. I could get unlimited but thats 55$, my church pays the 35 for 5 gb, I dont want to ask for more.
It downpoured here, some bus’s had to reroute.
Its still too hot.
Theres a church meal tonight so I get salad ( love salad).
I got 5 books in at the library. One was 20 lbs by Gina Schock. ( thats not the title)
I am reading VJ, about the MTV VJs.
It takes me back to when I was young and full of hope.
He didn’t mean to cut it now. And while I could get it cut on board, I refuse to pay what they’d charge. I’ll go to Great Clips when I get home. I really don’t care that much about it as long as it’s low maintenance, so probably a layered cut.
Monkey (or most cats) would think my apartment is Disneyland right now, what with all of the boxes waiting to be packed.
I hope that your sniffles go away soonest metal mouse.
I found the plastic totes and the guy even delivered them to me! I did give him a little extra, even though he didn’t ask for it, just because it’s difficult for me to get bulky things into my apartment from the parking lot.
Now for chillage.
Howdy Y’all! The sun decided to visit after all for a while this mornin’ and early afternoon, so we had quality cee-mint pond time. YAY! Then it was shower, nappage and day drinkin’ time in that order. Then sup got cooked and et. Now we chill. No Netflix tonight. Instead we will lie upon the bed and watch sump’n on brit box.
I’m always willing to throw a couple of bucks at folks for bringing my stuff in for me. They went above and beyond just because they are nice, I have the money to give them. It all works out.
So I forgot to mention that after driving for two hours, I was dismayed to learn that someone else had the unmitigated audacity to buy the basket I saw months ago.
I didn’t find any other baskets that would do and I couldn’t find anything else that I couldn’t live without so off we went. I don’t hear from NF much so I might ask TC friend to find a nice basket when next she goes through the rez. BFF is boycotting reservations or I’d ask her instead.
A basket will happen someday. I haven’t seen them at the local craft fairs, but I haven’t been looking for them either.
Oh, hey, Pilot…while you are jetsetting around the world, if you happen to find a wicker or jute basket with handles that I can use to bring in my harvest, I’d pay for shipping and all. It can’t be a big basket, currently my harvest looks to be a handful of cherry tomatoes and some very skinny radishes.
Oh, and funny/scary story: Four days ago, someone posted in the WV subreddit saying they had moved to NY and wanted to pay someone to send them some Mothman BBQ chips. I posted that I knew that the Mothman Harley dealership stocked them, and suggested they contact them. Link was included.
Today I got a private message from someone claiming to be some sort of management sort at the Mothman dealership thanking me for supporting their business.
We stopped for lunch at a diner and I got the best patty melt I’ve had in a long time. I asked the waiter if the cook had started the caramelized onions first thing in the morning because they were cooked to perfection. He went back to ask the cook and the cook came out to tell me thank you for noticing, he was really proud of them.
Hubs, bless his deaf lil heart, didn’t know what we were talking about except that I really liked the cooking, so he pulled his wallet out and offered the cook ten bucks, which I thought was super sweet. Even sweeter was the cook waving the money off while saying that having someone recognize his effort was worth more than money any day.
We spent most of the day on the back roads with nobody behind us so could take our time to enjoy the scenery. We saw a weasel. I’ve never seen one in the wild and he’s never seen one irl, so that was pretty neat.
I saw another Bigfoot cutout on a building, that’s five I’ve seen since we’ve been here. This is going to sound really rude, but every time I see one, I think “why are you being so stupid?” WV has a delightful menagerie of cryptids, all of which have a rich and detailed past. Bigfoot is a Pacific West cryptid. If you are going to put up images of imaginary “monsters” best use the local ones.
My final eye exam will be at 0800 on Thursday. I never get up that early, but I chose it because I get cranky if I have to wait long. Waaah indeed.
Could it be a small orchard-type crate? Because I know where you could find some if you took a field trip to Northern Indiana.
