Glad you seem to be having a good trip, Metal Mouse!

I just had a banana and the other half of my Wegman’s sandwich (delivered yesterday) for lunch, and am now happily working my way through a 1-oz bag of Utz chips. I’ll have my second and last protein shake of the day in ~40 minutes, then at 2pm I have a meeting with my boss and will likely eat a few pieces of the candy she keeps in her office. I do not go hungry when I’m at work.

Yesterday’s rain was heavy at times, but the storms were brief and did nothing to break the humidity. The windows in my house were fogged up all day/night! The Weather Channel says it’s currently 87°F but feels like 92, with more thunderstorms possible after 7pm. Even with some additional storms, though, we’re heading into a heat wave that looks like it’ll last a full week – including highs of 97, 99, 100, 98, and 96 during the Sunday-Thursday stretch. That’s July weather, not June! Meh! At least it should be a dry weekend, so my dad and brother won’t have to drive from/to Baltimore in any nasty weather on Saturday.

I wound up quitting work at around 3:30 yesterday, after I could tell that my brain was starting to turn to mush (from Tuesday’s 16-hour day). It was too early to start watching TV, but I needed something equally mindless to do: happily, I remembered that I’d been putting off sorting my leftover Lego pieces for a while (sets always extras of a few of the easier-to-lose pieces) and had quite a pile built up. So I sat at the kitchen table with all of the loose pieces and my three dedicated storage cabinets, and got caught up. My next project will be reorganizing the cabinets, but when I was done I put everything away so the table will be clear for the cleaners tomorrow. I might tackle the cabinets this weekend. But I’m also starting to think about maybe selling most of my extra pieces to one of the local Bricks 'n Minifigs stores.

In other Lego news, there’s a new “gift with purchase” (GWP) that I really want – a tribute to Jane Austen’s books – so this morning I ordered the Sanderson Sisters’ cottage (from Hocus Pocus). I love that movie, and the cottage had been on my list for a while as a possible Halloween decoration, but it’s too big to take apart and re-build each year so I’d been putting off getting it…but it was the only thing on my wish list that qualified for the free GWP, so I went for it. I won’t put it together until October. And I decided that I’ll store it assembled: I’ll start keeping an eye out for a box the right size, and I’ll just make sure it’s safely packed away between Halloweens. Where there’s a will (and a cool GWP)…

I have two more meetings today, but should be able to boogie out of here at around 4:30. I’m looking forward to being back home before the storms begin, and to watching more of S2 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I have no idea why I find that series so compelling, but I do!

The only meeting I had on my calendar for tomorrow was cancelled this morning, so I’m hoping for a fairly quiet work-from-home Friday…but we’ll see :crossed_fingers:

Nice! It’s been 11 years since I’ve looked for a new rental, but I remember kind of loving it when that happens. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :crossed_fingers:

WOW. I’m glad the air is finally working properly, but…sigh.

Excellent!

Treated as separate topics, or will there be some philology/historical linguistics stuff in there?

It seems like a really nice house/property, but I find it interesting that there are 28 photos yet not one single interior picture. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It being a Federal Holiday, they sent a bunch of people home. So I was on the 300 Sort Table for most of the shift. So they pulled the lady from the 100 Slide to fix the 300 Slide, until the 100 Slide backed up, they they brought the lady from the Mez down when the 300 Slide went FUBAR again, till the Mez backed up, then they (twice briefly brought me down to finish up). Add in a bunch of damage/rewraps and it was a long day. I did my Senior Day shopping and came home. I had to explain to Spot that !. He is not a leopard and 2. The “Leopards Eating Peoples’ Face Party” is not actually a thing. He thought I wasn’t paying him enough attention, so he started gnawing on my goatee. Time for a siesta.

They’ll go up after the next property appraisal. But a small price to live across the street from a bar.

Spot does that frequently.

Understandable. But at least she’s not in pain.

Well, the walls bleed, and there’s a portal to Hell in the pantry, but the pool and swing set make up for it.

Yeah, I noticed the lack of interior photos, too. Are they hoarders? :open_mouth:

Dishwasher is clean and loading has begun. I also made some sugar-free pudding. So some productivity has occurred.

Hot and humid out there. Ick.

I had an interview Monday. She said she’d call that night.
Next day I call and shes in a meeting.
Next day I call and they said shes in the bathroom and put me on hold for 30 minutes.
Then I get an e mail saying We are not seeking anyone now.
Today my left side is in pain. When I fell in Feb it did improve.
Yesterday the left side is seriously hurting. I may go to dr tomorrow, lanacaine cream isnt helping.

Had the day off today. My original plan for the day got knocked by pending surgery.

Started with cardiology this morning, had to have ekg and got the green light for surgery.

Then I had an amazing breakfast! I would pass by the green egg cafe, but it was always closed. Today was the day! Crème brûlée French toast. Sooooooo good. Definitely going there again next week after the follow up.

Then allergy shots

Walking home in 90 degree heat. Definitely a linen cover up day.

Finally home. Committee meeting tonight. Switching the lobby decor to summer tonight.

Might be good to be at the office tomorrow.

Back in my hotel room after meeting some friends…had planned to eat with them but managed to walk the wrong direction and took 30 minutes and the better part of a mile to find them. Hopefully will be more competent tomorrow. Off to bed.

Apparently there’s a gawd-awful storm making its way thru the DC environs. We turned on the news at 4 and they spent at least 35 minutes talking about it, so we turned it off. I guess nothing else newsworthy is happening in the world.

Yeah, that was a little snark. Hope Ooopsie is ok!

And the sailors rejoiced!

Glad that the HVAC folks are making things right, lily.

I’m finding something similar searching for apartments online. They show the exterior, the pool, exercise room and office, but just how much counter space does the place have?

Picked up some actual (read: not likker sto’) moving boxes. They will be for some of my bulkier stuff. I did pay a small amount for them, but considering what Lowe’s, HD and U-Haul charge for them, I got a bargain.

missred, hurrah! All those payments into SocSec will finally start paying off.

Metal mouse, if a pony is just too much, maybe a sheepdog.

We’re between jigsaw puzzles, so I took time to clean the toilets and read some Carl Hiaasen. I have to look up his name every time I write it.

Oopsie, speaking of custom titles, your avatar always reminds me of another Doper from awhile back, Nametag.

Mrs. Nott called me away from writing this to change the light bulb in the post light by the driveway. I would have done it months ago, but I couldn’t figure out how the thing comes apart. She found the one screw that holds the lid on. I’m tall enough to do the job, and she isn’t. I had unscrewed the finial long ago, trying to puzzle out the thing, and this time I found the nut from that, down at the bottom. I scuffed up my arm, but I got it done. It’s a photo-cell bulb, so we won’t know until dark whether I really accomplished anything.

missred, for your next outing, dab some whiskey around the top of your socks. Chiggers can’t be boozers, ya know!

Jane, slugs aren’t very ambitious, so you have to scoop out a little hole to set your beer dish in. That might work. I never had much luck getting slugs drunk, either.

Howdy Y’all! I got doctored, got ‘scripts refilled, took care of candle duty and got the details about the funeral. What a fun mornin’! Got in some quality cee-mint pond time for an hour until the humidity got to be too much. Nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished. Sup was fried chikin and a big sallit. Good and we were both full. We had a tstorm between five and six which cooled things down considerably. I can tell the a/c is not workin’ as hard now.

I am greatly amused by the idea of drunken chiggers and slugs.

I am so upset on your behalf. This should have happened long ago, how frustrating it must have been for you.

I’m glad you are having such a good trip despite not having a place to sleep when you arrived.

The roof guy was 100% correct, building codes require the roofing nails to protrude a certain distance through the roof. The HVAC company is well aware of this, their installer screwed up and they are responsible for fixing it.

I’m glad you found a nice couch. We do have some Ashley furniture but left most of it during the move. The delivery guys brought the stuff in boxes to the door, but a couple of twenties convinced them to bring the boxes inside, unpack and assemble.

Some horses are very good with guns being fired around them. We used to have a friend who was a hunting guide and he had three horses that would stand stock still while he fired a rifle over their heads. His wife’s horse would run off and hide in the back pasture when she heard him hammering metal.

I have never heard of such a thing and now that I’ve looked it up, I am going to have to learn how to make it for myself. I just happen to have a bottle of Grand Mariner. It sounds super yummy!

I looked at so many ads of lovely homes and yards with no pictures of the kitchen or bathrooms. One would think that the folks taking the pictures also lived in homes and wanted to know what the inside looks like, but what do I know?

Are you on Nextdoor? That is a great place to get moving boxes, I’m always seeing folks offering them up.

Thank you, I never thought about the effort it would take a slug to climb up the sloped side of my pie plate.

Yesterday I collected all of our coffee grounds and made a nice barrier around the tomato plant under attack. This morning I added some egg shells and more coffee grounds. I also noticed that it is trying to grow a tomato. Now it is personal, I have to save that plant cause it is not giving up!

Dang about scuffing up your arm, hopefully tonight you will be able to see your success!

So we went off to the eye doctor today (I can drive now, I just can’t read anything when I get there) and I got taken off the lifting and bending restrictions. Hurray! No swimming for another two weeks. Boo!

It’s probably just as well, WV will be under the heat dome so half of the county will be at the pool.

We stopped at Tudor’s for a late breakfast and at the produce store for a tomato and an onion. I also bought a watermelon that I could bend over and pick up out of the box.

I cut most of the melon up for snacking and wrapped a quarter of it in plastic wrap in the hopes that Walking Lady’s kid likes watermelon.

Narrator: The child has never had watermelon because they are so expensive.

For the record, the watermelon was too big for both of use to eat before it went bad. I want that kid to eat well and grow up healthy. My social security won’t fund itself ya know.

After the dilation drops wore off, we went to the Walgreens to pick out some readers. Then I spent the next couple of hours happily stitching.

I did get a little whiny about the readers though. I don’t want to have to shuffle through a handful of glasses to find the ones I need in the moment. I want it to be like it was before, I put my glasses on my face in the morning and take them off when I go to bed.

I know that can happen, I just have to wait another two weeks to be sure that my eyes are fully healed before starting to have lenses ground.

I like to think that they die happy.

Separate, sadly.

Which is very sad because they are so intertwined. I was 40 before I learned that the Apache Wars were triggered by the Civil War. I had always learned of them as separate and discrete events while not clocking on the dates involved.

ETA: I didn’t really come back to complain, I came back to share that we have done our duty and put out pizza rolls and Mountain Dew on Harry and our porches. It is tradition to pay tribute to Mothman the night before WV’s birthday. Why wouldn’t we put it out the night of? TRADITION!!!

I think I’ve dated a couple of drunken slugs.

I found these on Marketplace.

Sounds like you put the remnants of campfire coffee (we always put an egg shell in with the grounds when we made it while camping).

Went to dr and she gave me a shot for my back. I mustve been worried as my bp was 170/85. She did it again and it was 154/80.
Sitting here reading People magazine.

Hi all - I see lots of busy stuff upthread in the 3 days I’ve been gone.

IMO best news is @susan’s HVAC company stepping up to pay for the repairs they caused. And Cookie’s newly repaired HVAC and new relationship w the building maintenance dude. Once a maintainer knows you have some clue what you’re talking about, they’re a lot more receptive to fixing your issues. And a shoutout to wetone and Ariel for completing their meds successfully.

Metalmouse: If you find you’re just screwed on paying for the July hotel, ask if you can transfer the res to somebody else. I might be able to use it. No promises, but if it comes to you otherwise eating the cost, let me know.

My Tue-Wed dinner & low-rent rendezvous w GF went well. :rabbit: .

Today = Thu I had lunch w the guy I roomed with a year ago, and got the debrief on his recent 6-night 7-day Alaska cruise on Celebrity. They enjoyed excellent weather and he had a great time. The very next trip by the same ship, it broke free of its moorings in Juneau during extreme winds. Fortunately the crew & bridge were on the ball and they avoided crashing when they went sailing unexpectedly around the harbor.

I’m typing this high over Cuba. Some guy friends and I decided short notice to go to Jaco, Costa Rica for an extended weekend. That’s a fairly famous beach/surfing resort on the Pacific coast near the capital of San Jose. Despite the two-hour time change in our favor (US eastern to US mountain) It’ll be late night when we get to our rented house. Then we’ll have all of Fri, Sat, & Sun there. Then on Mon it’s late breakfast and head back to Miami.

This promises to be an epically unhealthy 5 days for 5 guys; 1 of whom is me and 4 of whom are young enough to be my kids. Far too much booze, food, and stogies. Not to mention dangerous tourist activities. At least it’ll be warm at night and hot in the day. As Nature should always be.

I can hardly wait.

I’ll probably be real scare until Tuesday, so everyone have a great weekend & I’ll rejoin you in the new MMP.

Down the beach for Date Night.

Mrs. L.A. treated.

Forgot to mention …

Flyboy looks very spiffy in his bow tie.

I wore a white linen outfit w white sneakers to date night w GF. She said it was spiffy too.

Up from naptime. Having a Brasil with the salad and Smoked Paprika Chicken with cheesy N.O.T. s. Had a big thunderstorm a while ago(It actually startled Spot).

To keep my sanity, Iran from the world news.

Weird that 200 years ago salmon, oysters, lobster, and watermelon were poor people food. Now that’s the $100 Prix Fixe menu at the local French bistro.

Indeed.

Dad always made coffee that way when we were camping as well. As did FIL. When Hubs and I first started camping together, he always insisted on an egg shell in the coffee pot, but never seemed to notice if I forgot that step. I didn’t either, so it stopped happening.

Spiffy is a word that should be used more often!

I remember reading an account about prisoners complaining about eating nothing but lobster every day.

I’m so sorry for children growing up today. The technological advances are amazing and I certainly do love my smart phone, but the world was much safer for kids back when I was young.
