Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 71 degrees Ferret Height(21.6 Centipedes).
Then you’ll have to let the cat out of the bag.
My dentist: “You need a crown.”
Me: “I know, right?”

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/47f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Enjoy this fucking mild weather. Shitty weather is probably in its fucking way soon.” I am indeed enjoying a proper autumnal day.
Sounds like you know exactly what you’re doing, good for you!
I hope the rest of your trip is much smoother, and you have a fabulous time!
I understand that completely! I get confused when I have to change my days on campus for something, that really upsets my routine too and I have no idea what day of the week it is
I hope it goes well!
The eye doc said my eyes are too dry to properly wash things off the surface by themselves which is why I need the gel tears and overnight ointment. She also said that little bits get caught in the eyelashes which can then fall onto the eye’s surface (and in my case, get stuck and cause ulcers) so giving them a wipe twice a day helps to prevent that.
She still bites me, but it’s not the “sink your teeth in and hang on for dear life” kind of biting, a lot less aggressive. She’s allowing more fuss too, and coming close to me to ask for fuss as well.
That’s great progress after all the work you put in at the gym! ‘im indoors has been going to the gym more regularly and has now raided my box of t-shirts I don’t/can’t wear any longer in case there’s anything in there that he can use. They’re mostly band t-shirts so he did find a couple that he might try out.
I’ve heard that one too, and tried it for a while but either I wasn’t very good at it, or it didn’t make any difference, I still ended up at the eye infirmary with another bleb for them to deal with!
Both practical and satisfying, where you can immediately see the fruits of your labours. I have no idea how to do what you do, but I’d still much rather do that than sit in meetings!
Yesterday at irk was both busy and annoying. I had a lot of things I wanted to get done but people kept interrupting so I couldn’t get them all finished. I skipped the union meeting at lunchtime because I would only have been able to stay for half of it before I needed to go to the dept meeting. Fortunately I’m friends with one of the union reps so I messaged her and told her how I would have voted if I’d been able to stay, and she said she would count my vote as well. The vote was for strike action on Monday and Tuesday of next week, with a majority of 82% in favour. I won’t actually be on strike as I’ve got leave booked for those two days, but I still will not be doing any work.
Got home without too much trauma and a little bit of excitement. The girl I was sitting next to on the train got caught by the revenue inspectors and landed herself a fine of £180 (£60 if she pays within 21 days) for the sake of a £4 ticket. She saw the guys get on the train, whipped her phone out and immediately bought an under-16 child fare for a one-stop journey. Revenue inspectors are not stupid, she tried showing her ticket as a blank screen, inspector told her to swipe it so he could see the ticket. He then told her she’d paid the wrong fare as she wasn’t a child. She said she was under 16, he asked for her date of birth, turns out she’s 17 and therefore an adult. Then she said she’d boarded at the last stop, she hadn’t because they had not seen her (or me) on the platform so there was a long back-and-forth about where she’d actually boarded. She was wearing a local college t-shirt so it’s almost 100% certain that was where she’d boarded. Then she tried to say it was her first ever train journey. That didn’t fool him. She followed up with a tale about her friend buying the ticket for her (despite him seeing the purchase details on the phone), then she said she was only going one stop (another lie), then she said her friend had messaged her to get off at a different stop, and then said she was going to visit her sick aunt (which meant getting off at the stop she’d originally said, which is two stops before where her “friend” told her to get off), and after being handed the paperwork for the fine, she eventually got off at a completely different station!
I’m not at irk today so no more drama, I hope. I’m off to the gym in about an hour, then heading back via town to pick up lunch from our favourite Indian food truck as a treat. I’m making chilli for dinner tonight, and then I expect it will be a sofa and film night for us.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 81 with rain. It rained durin’ the night. I heard it when I awoke to the call of nature at one sump’n a.m. We will remain inside and dry. Good day to hone the RDOS skillz. Sup will be pepper steak with rice and cheddar bay bizkits. The pepper steak will hang out in the slow cooker for several hours. YUM!
BrightTree yay for becomin’ all high techie! We will be gettin’ spiffy fiber optic cable within the next couple of weeks. There are little orange flags and orange markin’s in yahds all over da ‘hood.
BooFae some folk ain’t bright. You were witness to that on the train. I wonder if she’ll attempt to get out of the fine by sayin’ she never received a copy. She sounds about that smrt.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Another super busy day at work yesterday. Last IEP meeting for the week. At this point, only 20 more to go! Today is professional development for most of the day with a little work time thrown in at the end. I woke up at the usual ridiculous time of about 3 a.m. this morning. Then I decided to try to take a nap about an hour ago, except just as I was falling asleep I bit my tongue pretty hard. So that was the end of the attempted napping.
Hopefully I can do some more furniture arranging while the meeting is going on.
Back in my Navy days, a visit from an Admiral was all it took to get everything waxed and repaired and/or hidden away (keeping spares of certain items was forbidden, but every single squadron did it.) The thing is, every Admiral was once down in the trenches and they know the drill. I always figured if they really cared about the trench-folk, they’d show up unannounced and see the true state of things. But I guess that’s not how the game is played.
Yep, me too. On a couple of occasions I thought about applying for supervisory positions, but I realized, first, that I’d suck at it, and second, I didn’t want to be a boss-person. Ever. I wore my peon badge proudly!!!
I’ve got to scars on my left arm from Pixel, our Dalmatian, dating back to the late 90s. She was running her paw across my arm, begging for skritches, and a couple of her nails left their mark.
Decidedly! Tho I do think an ermine-trimmed robe would be a tad too much…
now raided my box of t-shirts
FCD has been wearing t-shirts that haven’t fit him in eons. He’s also asked me to return a couple that he’d given to me. Despite wearing baggy clothing, I can now tell there’s less of him - 41# less. It’s almost time to get him some new jeans. Probably 10# more. And he’ll definitely need new shorts next summer.
We will be gettin’ spiffy fiber optic cable within the next couple of weeks.
We got an email saying there will be occasional brief cable outages as they do upgrades. I haven’t seen any work in our immediate area, so I’m guessing it doesn’t specifically involve us. But if we’re in the middle of something requiring the intrarwebz, it promises to be annoying. We shall see…
Meanwhile, we’ve circled around to another laundry day. Oh, yeah, SIL came home early, so I was awake enough to drive myself home and I got some fairly decent sleep. I’ll take advantage of being in the basement by treading the mill or riding the bike - something to get some cardio in between loads. Then, who knows.
Onward!! Happy Firday!!
Morning all. Up about 6:30am thanks to the bladder alarm, now waiting until the kiddos make it into school to dress and do my shopping early, then see if the 1-in-3 chance of rain occurs and washes out another soccer practice. High today is supposed to reach 80F which is tolerable but it’ll warm into the mid-to-high 80’s next week so Fall has not quite made it here yet. Nothing much on the agenda, really need to attend to the kitchen some but have a case of the Donwannas. At least the dishwasher is empty and that stuff is put away.
flyboy, still can find a couple scars (non-feline administered) that I remember where I got them from, along with a couple spots that are lost to memory (but I suspect most of us have them). And sorry your knees have been bad for so long, mine are still soldiering along but one of these days…
shoe, thanks for sharing BBBoo’s picture, and as for the pic, at least someone is not going to hell in a handbasket…
boofae, quite a story about the young woman and trying to dodge paying. Now she probably has to explain to family why they owe a big fine (and I bet they don’t buy her explanation anymore than the inspectors did).
Sticky Buns, there are few pains so localized and so immediately painful as biting your tongue (IMHO). Hope the rest of the day goes better.
Yep, me too. On a couple of occasions I thought about applying for supervisory positions, but I realized, first, that I’d suck at it, and second, I didn’t want to be a boss-person. Ever. I wore my peon badge proudly!!!
Our minds are as one on this.
FCM, I’ve gone from 46" to 40" waist size in the past 3 1/2 years and probably could get into a 38" waist if they were a ‘relaxed’ fit, but don’t feel like restocking my closet quite yet and the jeans and slacks fit fine…as long as I remember to wear a belt…
And just about time to get dressed and head out for the Great October stockage trip. Have a good Firday all.
as long as I remember to wear a belt
That’s the only thing holding up my sweetie’s shorts. Takes me back to the day in my childhood when my grandfather was mowing the lawn and his shorts fell to his ankles. All us kids got a giggle and he yanked them back up again and tied his rope belt tighter. Not a belt, really - just a length of rope. Ah, memories…
OK, he’s left for the marina and I need to hop in the shower then gather all the dirty clothes and towels and whatever. Onward and downward!!
aw, miffin is moving into full muffin. i enjoy hearing about her progress.
quite the commuter story there. one time i did get a free ride on the train. i was wearing a tee shirt that said “off boat from romania”, the conductor did not engage.
boo! what a great picture. my furry ones are bag fiends. they both love being in them.
the shuttle driver is getting a bit smoother, he still has a bit of trouble going in and out of the horseshoe drive of the building. it is tight, seriously tight. it was built for the buses of the 40s. they were a bit smaller and more narrow. the original shuttle:

next week i have monday and tuesday off. whee! i will have happy cats.
This is for our lovely Boo
Aw, a pursey-cat!
I’m going to add your regimen of warm water with cotton each day.
The other thing I do, as I take a shower every day, is to wet a clean washcloth and gently clean my eyelids/eyelashes.
I use a good mild soap like Cerave or Neutregena.
+1 for Cerave. Any product from them.
What’s our heraldic shield look like, you artistic, creative Mumpers out there?
Could we just borrow the coat of arms from Saint-Léger-Dubosq? Red eyes, nice claws for scratching itchy eyes.
One of these.
Those look cool. But I have a bone to pick with their recommendations:

schoolchildren
young people
adults
older people
Older people are no longer adults? I guess it’s when they start their second childhood.
She’s allowing more fuss too, and coming close to me to ask for fuss as well.
Yay! Asking for fuss is a big step.
Yesterday I did too much walking and am sore. Since I’m still on medical leave, I decided to forego any walking, except to the doctor’s office. She’s pleased with my recovery so far and reminded me to take pain relievers as needed, as pain doesn’t help healing.
I did go get some TP and grapes. I had seen grapes at the store earlier, but was being very careful about the total weight of the stuff I was buying, as I’m supposed to avoid heavy lifting. She did say I can do 3-4 kg (6-8.5 lbs), so I can buy more at the grocery store.
This is for our lovely Boo
What a lovely meezer!
which is two stops before where her “friend” told her to get off), and after being handed the paperwork for the fine, she eventually got off at a completely different station!
Sounds like her lie telling skills need improvement before she tries this ruse again.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After that, I’ll strip the bed, do up the sheets, remake , hang some more pictures and play some more in the studio.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Third load washing, second drying, first put away. I did about 40 minutes on the bike, then I rollsucked most of the basement and cleared some stuff out of the way in anticipation of the grandspawn on Sunday. It may or may not rain so we may or may not go to the playground.
Anyway, 2 more loads to go. Then, dunno.
BTW, wouldn’t a coat of arms actually be an outdoor garment with a dozen or so sleeves? Asking for a friend…
Shopping has been completed and put away, I’m trying to figure what else I need for about $10 to get an additional 0.10 per gallon off…so yeah, Kroger has me trained good, looking to spend $10 to save at best $2 on my fill-up…
Temperature is still in the 70’s, but so is the Humidity so the AC and fan are on to keep the air moving. Probably have some lunch and head over to the gym as is my usual routine (albeit pushing a loaded cart through a large grocery store is a pretty good cardio workout on its own).
FCM, made the remark because on occasion when I go to the gym I have my workout clothes on and my ‘public’ clothes bagged and on occasion (like yesterday) I’ll forget my belt and have to walk to my car while holding up my jeans/shorts as unobtrusively as possible…
rocky, yeah getting a modern bus in there takes some work. I can remember some long-past vacations where the driver got us into places and around curves I wouldn’t have tried in a small car. Hope new driver keeps improving.
Older people are no longer adults? I guess it’s when they start their second childhood.
They should at least label us properly…RDOS!!
Time for some braunschweiger sammiches.
A reprise of yesterday’s breakfast and another nice day in the 70s.
The wife has a notion of going to some sort of art display on an island near here. We’ll see if her ambition holds up. Otherwise, no plans for the day. She also mentioned a concert at the local jazz club, but the seats there are really uncomfortable for someone with arthritis issues like I have, so I vetoed it. I also skipped exercise today, as it would have been a video in the absence of our usual leader. Ambition level = zero today.
The phone rang four times late last night from a NYC area code. Probably some sort of scam, as we don’t know anybody from that area. Had a hard time getting back to sleep.
Then you’ll have to let the cat out of the bag.
Todays winner! to doggio!
My dentist: “You need a crown.”
Me: “I know, right?”
I get to go to the dentist tomorrow and get two crowns. I think I’ll tell her I’d rather a tiara. Gotta be cheaper, among other considerations.
My poor gums haven’t stopped bleeding from when the prep was done two weeks ago and I can’t chew on that side. Goody, two more weeks of that and I get to pay $3600 for the pleasure. Thank you for listening to my whine.
thanks for sharing BBBoo’s picture, and as for the pic, at least someone is not going to hell in a handbasket…
Nope, comfy in a brand new Vera Bradley bag. She stayed there a couple of hours. I imagine it will have appeal to her even more this fall and winter, all cosy and warm.
boo! what a great picture. my furry ones are bag fiends. they both love being in them.
She does love her enclosed spaces. Last week she jumped behind an open drawer to the big drawer below when I wasn’t looking and spent 12 hours there because I shut the drawer above and left for my long day. She was meowing piteously when she heard me unlocking the front door lo those many hours later. At least she didn’t leave behind any …ahem…evidence of her confinement on top of my clothes in the drawer-I would have been much less amused.
Aw, a pursey-cat!
Thank you, it was pretty adorable and I’m glad our shoe had the skills to post it.
She’s pleased with my recovery so far and reminded me to take pain relievers as needed, as pain doesn’t help healing.
Your personal night nurse would have told you the same thing-pain impedes healing and there are no, none, nary a one medals given out for not taking pain medication and keeping ahead of it.
What a lovely meezer
Thank you.
So I was in Top Yellow 200 again, but they changed out 2 of the packages cars. and the PT Sup didn’t get the placards and load sheets up till 30min after start time. And once again I had to help finsih loading on Bottom Green. And for the second day running, I had to rebox a 135ls. item, this time some sort of steering gear thing. I stopped at Teeter and got a slab of catfish and some bok choy for dinner. Laundry is swirling, so it will be naptime shortly.
Weather app says “Enjoy this fucking mild weather. Shitty weather is probably in its fucking way soon.”
Well rain, and possibly a hurricanes, so yeah.
She still bites me, but it’s not the “sink your teeth in and hang on for dear life” kind of biting, a lot less aggressive. She’s allowing more fuss too, and coming close to me to ask for fuss as well.
That’s spot. He bites me when I don’t give him enough fussing, or if I give him too much, he gets overstimulated and bite-y. Of course, there is no real middle ground.
At this point, only 20 more to go!
Meetings or IEPs?
But I guess that’s not how the game is played.
I think it’s an ego trip thing, since Corporate/Congress won’t spring for 40 foot marble statures of them.
My poor gums haven’t stopped bleeding from when the prep was done two weeks ago and I can’t chew on that side. Goody, two more weeks of that and I get to pay $3600 for the pleasure. Thank you for listening to my whine.
Ouch!(for both) This is why they picked a dentist for the torturer in Marathon Man
Happy Firday those who celebrate.
BooFae, sheesh. Wearing a college t-shirt and pretending to be under 16? Rookie error. You need to be careful to dress the age you want to be seen as, as…uhh… a friend told me from when she was 17 and used to get the train on a child ticket to Manchester at the weekend then magically turn 18 on reaching the pub… I.. um.. she never got fined though.
Irk was quite irksome- I had a catchup meeting with all my supervisors. Due to complicated reasons, I have more than is strictly necessary, so I tend to feel very outnumbered at these things.
An absolutely lovely person then ‘helped me trouble shoot’ with my lab protocol after the meeting, and did basically half of what I had left to do, as well as suggesting some minor improvements. It would have taken me at least 3 days to do it all myself. 5 at the rate I’ve been procrastinating.
I really want to think of something nice to do for her to say thanks, especially as this is not the first time she’s helped me with stuff despite it being in no way her job, and she’s been having a rough time lately too… I can’t help with her work though, unfortunately.
Got my X-rays. Aside from not having a patellar tendon to hold what’s left of my kneecap in place, my left knee joint it just fine. The right side, not so much. There is no meniscus on the outside, and very little on the inside. This is why my lower leg is bending outward. Next step (oops), see what the PA-C has to say.
Yikes!, and yikes to Boo, too.
Also, kitties! Keep those photos coming.
I’m enjoying the novelty of Posting While Overhead–in fact, I’m probably just about directly over the Chicago Reader or whoever owns us now. My lovely wife gets to have her houseguest, specifically her cousin, visit while I gallivant. He stays with us pretty frequently, so I’ve seen him several times this summer already. They’ll have fun and walk local trails and probably continue going through family photo albums, and I’ll go to Spain.
