(Old) Getting back into your groove in the MMP

Sounds tasty.

Everything is sliced, and the sauce is mixed. I probably will make a corn starch slurry to thicken things up.

I’ll feed the cats their gooshy food at four, and then start cooking.

My sister and I went out to walk my dog and found a quite large machete on the lawn of the north side of my building. Called the cops and an officer showed up fairly quickly. He got my info and thanked us for calling. You never know if it may have been involved in a crime.

Howdy Y’all! We got shorn and procured provisions. A rotisserie chikin was procured and it along with peas ‘n carrots, cheesy rice from a box (don’t judge!) and rolls were et for lunch for today’s main need to feed. Then nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished. There was a big rain this afternoon. I wore my hearin’ aids for three hours in da cave. I was standin’ in front of da fridge when the ice maker dumped ice. I jumped. That thing is loud! We et more cheesecake. Now that I know today is international cheesecake day, I feel the I did my part.

BooFae sweet room upgrade! When I traveled for irk and stayed in fancier hotels I would get executive upgrades and access to the executive lounge. I felt so special.

Hey guys, help me settle an argument. There are vines growing on our back fence and the side of our house. I think it is kudzu and feel we should remove it where ever possible. I went out and ripped all of the vines off the house and started on the fence when Hubs came running out-well, gimping slowly-to tell me to not touch it because it is poison ivy.

So, is it possible that my here-to-unknown superpower is being able to handle poison ivy, or am I not that special?

Tri-fold leaves and red stems-very invasive. I don’t mind, I think it is pretty but Hubs worries about it pulling the fence down.

I happen to be one of those lucky few who are immune to poison ivy. My brother evidently got all of my reaction to it. He ended up needing to get shots of some kind (can’t recall what, it was like 50 years ago). I’ve handled what was identified as poison ivy by people who got the rash from the very same plant and had no issues. I think it’s kind of a rare thing, but we do exist.

I didn’t think it ever grew enough to take down a fence. Kudzu also has 3 leaf clusters, and it will grow at an alarming rate. When I was in North Cackalacky I’d see it grow at feet a day. Scary stuff.

I installed a thing at the museum today. Apparently this is something the education dept has wanted for years. They casually mentioned it to me about 2 weeks ago, so I made it. It’s just a little wall with a cool pattern painted on one side and a Duplo matt fixed to it. I can’t believe how many comments I got about it. Seems the folks in my job before me were…not speedy.

Poison ivy has asymmetrical leaves. It is evil. Kudzu will grab you and cover you if you move too slowly. It is evil, but in a different category. Were it in my yard, I’d do everything in my power to destroy it. Except using a flamethrower, as those are apparently illegal in Merrylande.

The tofu was good. Not as good as I used to get at the take-out 22 years ago, but The Missus liked it.

I took a look in the mirror since my last post, and I want to say I was wrong about my hair’s balance of grey and brown being unchanged. It’s more grey. Not a big deal, but I didn’t want to lie to you.

Good on you, Swampy, for opting for hearing aids. Too many people, including some of my relatives, try to get by with limited hearing. They don’t know what they’re missing, literally. When I got my latest set dialed in, my hearing aid guy said, “I wish I could have taken a picture of your face when I turned them on.” When it’s right, you really know.

My brothers were techies in the service, one army, one navy. They called that the Raytheon Reset. If that didn’t work, the next most effective fix was to lift the device a few inches and drop it. If that didn’t work, that’s why you have techies.

If Rilchiam is still looking for a mumper name, there’s always Mimsy.

Seems as though flamethrowers are legal here

I’m almost positive it is kudzu. Harry was out on his yah tracta while I was messing with it and I know he would have warned me off if it was poison ivy. No blisters or itching except for the ant bite.

I’m now fairly sure I am not that special, but it would be very handy

I love that you have found your almost perfect job, and know that they love you so much that they are seriously looking for a way to make you permanent and forever!

JtC, that does sound like poison ivy. IME, kudzu doesn’t turn red. In either case, being vines, it’s a good idea to (safely) remove them from climbing your fence and house.

VanGo, he likely got a cortisone (or other steroid) shot. Don’t ask how I know this.

Poor Nelson! TMI, so

He’s had soft poos, but tonight, he had an accident. He looked so ashamed. I did give him a bit of plain Greek yogurt to try to calm things down. Now, he’s sleeping on my arm.

ETA: Well, damn! The hide details thingy isn’t working.

It certainly did hide all the details!

Now lets see if the blur thing still works.

Habemus Oven. Just in time for the heatwave to break. So I’m having three cheese tortellini with meatballs and broccoli for dinner. And a martini.

But you missed a chance for a free machete.

Molotov cocktail.

That’s the important part.

Awwww. Gordie used to be like that. Hope he feels better.

JtC, the blur feature is working. However, on my end, the hide one didn’t.

Hi folks - I have returned to The Real World. Got home tonight = Wed night a day late after my planned flight on Tue anceled for mechanical reasons. So I had an unexpected afternoon, evening and morning in beautiful downtown San José, Costa Rica. Fortunately the failure happened before boarding and they didn’t jerk us around with the old “any minute now…” BS. I learned it’s hard broke, I swapped my reservation to a flight the next day, grabbed a hotel reservation in a familiar part of town, got a cab, and off we went.

The remaining days of the vacation since my update in the last MMP, Sun & Mon, were good and lazy, then Tue was breakfast & ride 1-1/2 hours to the airport to await the cancellation. Sigh. But that was really the only off-nominal part of the whole week. Which is pretty good when vacationing in the less organized parts of LatAm.

I’m about to start reading / skimming the 154 posts since Monday. There will be some comments in a post later tonight or first thing tomorrow. Right now it’s my normal bedtime Miami time, but too early for bed CR time. I’ll split the difference & retire in an hour. Besides, my accumulated one load of laundry ought to finish drying right about then.

Happy midweek to one and all.

Welcome home!

sss

It’s mostly you. Of course you have a LOT of routine to re-engage with.

I have very little. Unless I get home near bedtime, I’ll have all the snail mail, packages, suitcase supply replenishing, and laundry done before I go to bed. If I do just crash on arrival, all that other crap takes a couple hours tops the next morning. The email was being handled as it came in, net of a couple items that require live action at home.

The rest of my fairly loosey-goosey habits restart pretty much automatically. I’m not driven enough to invent anything else.

Hippie that is just an amazing quilt she’s made.

Agree completely. Enjoy the chance to develop a whole new and different set of bad habits. Don’t just jump into the old rut in a new zip code.

Don’t we all!? But I’ll add a #4 to your great list: * I’m glad I’m less dead than Anthony Bourdain.

And that’s a wrap on Monday comments. Bedtime becons.

Since there’s nothing on, we’re watching Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. The thing about this show is that it gives me ideas. I’ve been wanting to make family-style tofu for a while, and I think I saw a show where there was a tofu dish that finally made me do it. Having just watched an episode set in Burgundy, I’ve bookmarked a recipe for coq au vin. I’ve only had it once, when the late wife of a high school friend made it.

Yes, it’s nice not to be dead. I’d still like to be as cool as he was. (Funnily, he mentioned David Carradine in the previous episode we watched.)

Mistake.

Late night final here. Soccer has been coached, garbage has been placed at the curb, and dishes washed and sorted, so things have been accomplished. Just had a short rain shower which the lawn badly needed so not a bad day. Tomorrow promises much the same, but hotter (high of 97F expected). Cheeburger and mini-apple pie have provided the evening’s calories.

Talkative bunch today, let;s see how long it takes to scroll 47 messages (and counting).

FCM, I get that at Kroger sometimes, they’ll have a ridiculous special (buy 2 12-pack Pepsi and get 3 free!) and if I don’t get there in time they’ll be out. Fortunately there are 3 Krogers within a 10-12 minute drive of me so I can usually find it.

rocky, I always hated a too-cold office; hope the requisition brings action.

Taters, glad you and the rest stayed dry from the Tsunami. I remember driving along the shoreline south of Portland a few years ago and there were signs posted saying you were in a Tsunami zone or had just left one. And Gatorade is also a good drink to have for hydration. Hope the new roof meets with your approval.

lily, hope the new washer/dryer set is ready to go soon.

wet one, think I went into Whole Foods once and like you, that was enough. Stay cool.

doggio, I guess the Kia was lucky a Beamer wasn’t coming along the street…

boo fae, glad you got a quieter room with some bennies. And I have got to get to Central Europe one of these days…

I know what you mean…the years seem to go by much faster now.

Herald, can’t speak for FCM, but the computer checkout won’t give me the discount unless I have the specified number of items.

Same here, the last local one closed about 4 years ago and haven’t seen one since.

Make sure you cut one in honor of it…

Sensei, glad to hear you town didn’t take a big hit, thought that you might be the most affected of all us Mumpers.

Cupcakes, quite a find, not something you see every day. Nice to let the cops know about it.

JtC, as for handling poison ivy, well, did you have gloves on or not? And kudzu (like VanGo mentions) can grow at an insane rate. And speaking of VanGo, mage bonus points for the quick turnaround on the thing.

Pilot, welcome home.

And that’s all for Hump Day. Catch all y’all tomorrow.
