(Old) Getting up steam in the MMP

Morning all. Been a little while since I typed, my last game on Saturday was rained out so I stopped to pick up my laundry and came on home, but was too beat to write much and was in bed early. Up about 6am today with my first referee job about 9am, so we’ll see how it goes. The weather wizards say the rain will return about 1pm today so I’ll have to see how it goes. Wasn’t planning on doing any games Sunday but signed up for a couple early in the morning so I’ll have plenty of time to pack, since I’m leaving for vacation early on Monday.

About 40 messages in arrears, so just some quick notes:

Taters, I still have a couple old US Government ID’s, but no CAC of course.

JtC, nellie, happy to hear about your improving eyesight. And best wishes for your surgery, rocky.

All those protesting, be safe, be smart, and be LOUD!!

doggio, it astounds me that anything ever arrives anywhere…

FCM, I’ve gone from 46" waist to 40" in the past few years, and probably could get into a 38" waist now if I tried. Hooray for FCD.

Happy Birthday, Coppertone

Sticky Buns, glad Mom is doing OK.

Sit Down MOOOOOMMM!!!

boo fae, glad "im indoors didn’t fall out of bed, might have scared the cats…

And need to break fast, get into my refereeing duds, and head on out. Have a good Sattiday, all.

OK, potentially weird question here - what mattress sizes are available in your part of the world? When I was booking our room, the only bed descriptor was “standard” - no option for queen or king. I’m not sure how big a bed we’ll have, but I’m hoping standard is roomier than what we call “full” here.

OK, time to shower.

Good morning.

It’s 51°F and mostly cloudy at the moment. I did see some patches of blue and white just a few minutes ago. The expected high temperature is 72°F, with partly cloudy skies and occasional peeks of sunshine. It’s a bit of a blah day weather-wise, but it’s better than a downpour.

For those of you protesting today, be loud, but be SAFE.

Happy Birthday, Coppertone.

Nellie, I’m happy to hear the news about your eyes and the reduced frequency of doctor visits!

boo fae, it’s good that 'im indoors didn’t fall out of bed.

I’ve always been a “I do it myself” person, even as a toddler. Throw in massive doses of stubborn…and well, the rest can go unsaid.

I rollsucked the entire upstairs yesterday, along with the stairs. I hate vacuuming the stupid stairs. I need to finish downstairs this morning. I also mowed the weedwhacked and mowed the lawn, and blew off the pavers and patio. Prior to that, I watered all the posies, front and back. When I was done with all that, I hosed off the pavers where the planter boxes and pots are, so everything looked neat, tidy and fresh.

I also washed dog blankets yesterday and hung them up to dry. I air dry them because they have little rubber grippy thingies on the backside so they don’t slide off the couch and loveseat.

Today, I’ll finish the laundry, along with vacuuming and dusting the great room and den. I’ll probably head over to the grocery store too, since my son plans to come up. I need to make sure there is noshing food available.

Tonight, we’ll head off to our favorite little French and European bistro for dinner. The chef, from the Alsace area of France, always comes out to check on how we liked our food.

Alrighty, I need to finish my coffee, and get started on the rollsucking so I can shower after that.

Thank you guys💚
Its been raining all night, some bus’s were rerouted because of flooding.
I had a nice dream; a tuxedo cat came and laid by me and said I love you.

Happy No Kings day everyone. Today will be hot and muggy, the capital is just off the Ohio river so I’ve doubled up on my deet. I made sure to spray the edges of my wimple in the hopes of keeping the skeeters away from my face and I’m bringing a handful of cheap folding fans to share.

I’m also wearing my eye shield today. I know I’m allowed to take it off during the day, it’s just so fashionable and eye catching that I couldn’t help myself. (Nothing bad is going to happen.)

All of the soreness and scratchiness I was complaining about yesterday is done and the world looks so amazing now that both eyes are fresh and working together. I can see the dew drops on my fuchsia plant at 15 paces, its amazing. The colors just pop and everything is so sharp and clear.

I still can’t read, but I can tell that I’m not going to need much correction at all anymore. Hubs is loading things up for me to take to the capital, we will stop at Walgreens on the way for readers.

I’m hoping that all those weeks of feeding the local undercover cops will work out in my favor.

(Bringing food and water to such things is just what I always do. The tacos are new, before it was just things like water, jerky, cheese and fruit. I always made it a point to smile at the cops and hand them food/water instead of making them reach for it.)

I know I talk about waving my sign around, but I quit carrying them a while back. I don’t have a free hand for one and my garb should say everything for me anyhow.

So, for anyone else going. Don’t carry your phone, you still have time to get a cheap burner that will take pics and videos. Carry that one instead. Wear good shoes that tie, not slip on shoes. Bring water, sunscreen and insect repellent. Do not engage with law enforcement or anti-protesters. Don’t even look at them and if people start damaging property, go somewhere else and sit down quietly.

Be careful, be safe and remember…they can’t arrest us all.

I’ve been wearing one close one far AKA monovision for at least 25 years with no problems. Well, I did have a problem when we moved to Texas in finding an optometrist who was willing to do monovision. I finally found out that the guy closest to me does it but his front-office people didn’t know what it was (??), So best of luck to you with the whole process..

Yay!

Happy birthday coppertone!

To those on the front lines today, be safe. I’m with you in spirit.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I slept well last night because Nelson did. I noticed last evening that the inside skin of his ears was red from scratching, so I cleaned them and applied some salve and it seemed to work.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Birthday, Coppertone. Gemenis are the best! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: (Of course being a Space Cadet, I like to pronounce it ‘Jimminy’. :astronaut: )

Happy birthday, Coppertone! :birthday_cake:

And happy Saturday morning to everyone else!

I thought I might not leave the house this weekend, but last night I made plans to meet my “nephew” and his GF for lunch today. Yay! They picked a restaurant very close to my place (double yay!), which has an attached bakery where I will procure a dog cookie and a cupcake or two after we eat (triple yay!). We’re not meeting until 1:30, so I can continue my leisurely Saturday morning online activities with no hurry. I’m looking forward to having a French dip and fries for lunch, and baked goodies later today/tomorrow. It might be the last time I get to see the “kids” before they go back to Texas sometime next week.

Speaking of my nephew, the Zelle transfer finally happened! You may recall that I tried to send him a chunk-o-cash (let’s just say it ended with four zeros) on Sunday evening, but I typoed his cell phone number: luckily, I caught the mistake right before the final step. It stayed in limbo for ~48 hours and I couldn’t initiate a new payment, but finally the pending payment was cancelled – due to me not completing that final step in a timely manner – and I was able to send him the money on Tuesday. Then it took 3 days to be deposited in his account, so he just got the notification yesterday. I made it clear that my lunch invitation had nothing to do with the transfer and they were free to say no.

Has anyone here ever used Meetup? I have no friends in the same “place”/stage of life as me, and lately I’ve been thinking that it might not hurt to try to find one or two. But I feel a bit like a unicorn: other single, childless professionals around my age seem to be few and far between, so I’ve started looking at groups/activites on Meetup. So far nothing has really clicked – one group that seemed promising turned out to be associated with a website/brand – but I’ll keep browsing.

Eventually closing that account sounds like the right plan for her. My CU doesn’t care about activity as long as you keep $5 in savings, but if she’s starting to see fees it’s time to get out.

HA!! :joy:

LOL!!

(That show is one of my all-time favorites: my bucket list includes playing Abigail Adams in a production. Maybe FCM can direct it!)

The waterproof, washable pads I have all over the house also have those rubber grippy things on the back, and I put them in the dryer all the time – on low heat, mind you, and I definitely never use any fabric softener. But the dryer doesn’t affect the grippiness.

I started off with just a few covering the living room rug at night in case of doggy bladder emergencies, but as Bailey has gotten older her arthritis and muscle weakness have worsened and her traction on the hardwood floors has dwindled: now I have them pretty much everywhere – including recently putting two on the tile floor in the kitchen, after an incident where she peed and slipped in it and couldn’t get back up. They look kind of terrible, but they greatly help her mobility around the house. No one ever comes over here, anyway.

Hooray! :two_hearts:

My previous optometrist had horrible front-office staff; also borderline incompetent. It’s why I changed practices. Bad office staff is also part of why I changed veterinary practices a couple of years ago. I think these places often don’t realize the impact that negative interactions with their office staff can have on patients/clients.

No matter how many times I hear it, “Till then” always brings me to tears.

And I’m back. I could only manage an hour standing in mid-80s temps and what felt like mid-80s humidity. Plus, frankly, I’m not used to standing that long, especially not on uneven ground. But there was a good sized crowd - quite large according to veterans of these gatherings. The CVS across the street donated a case of water. The sheriff just said “Stay out of the street” and they left us alone.

There was one guy with a flag on his car and a TRUMP 2024 sign on his hood who kept driving past us honking. I guess he thought he was “owning” us. I dunno - people around here honk in support. In fact, the sign I held said “Honk to save democracy.” I don’t know how much gas that guy burned driving in circles trying to, what? I dunno.

Anyway, I took some pics - they almost give a sense of how many people were there.

This group had doubled by the time I left:

So now it’s time for lunch and maybe some ibuprofen.

Again, the sorting was relatively uneventful, but they waited til 11 to bring me the damages and rewraps. TPTB haven’t figured out that
!. If you want me to leave
2. You want me to do the damages and rewraps before I leave.
3. Then the sooner you bring them to me the sooner #1 happens.
4. So I didn’t get out in time to make the protests. But I did make money.

Spread people out:
No More Kings
No more Trump
If my dog looked like that
I’d shave his rump

Odin is pleased.

Logic and the future are not a strong suit with some of these folk.

Saw another batch of ~30 protesters today. One had the foresight to have a sign that said “NO Kings” in 8+" tall letters. The rest were illegible. So at least I knew which team these folks represented. I waved and honked.

A few blocks later coming the opposite way were two jacked up pickup trucks. One had about 12 flags (!). Most of which were some bastardization of the American flag they purport to worship. The other pickup had a large flag with DOGE on it and some smaller print I couldn’t catch at our combined 80mph closing rate. And 3 others, but the DOGE one stood out.

Morons.

Happy birthday coppertone!

Quite the day here in phila. The helicopters have left the area along with protesters.

Tomorrow is planting the island of refuge in front of the condo building.

Good news, nelliebly.

Church Guy brought me a 12 pack of t.p. Nice of him as we dont even go to the same church anymore. Maganut goes to his.
Washing my hair, my friend will be coming by later to take me out for ice cream.:roll_of_paper::soft_ice_cream:

I’ve found a couple of groups that I participated in for a few years and will likely check out what’s available once I move. Being a commie, pinko heathen (read agnostic progressive) in the mid-south, it was sometimes difficult to find things to do that didn’t revolve around a religious organization, red state politics (usually one and the same) or songwriting (already part of that scene). I found a couple of groups that fit the bill.

I’m loving that!

Thank you to all who made the protests!

My heart is breaking over the happenings in the Twin Cities (hugs to you cookie),

Now to merge the afternoon into evening.

Me, lower right in the blue ball cap.

Well, I did but it was many years ago and it was a grief group that I went to after my boyfriend passed. I have seen other groups that sound interesting, but being an introvert and all I’ve elected not to go.

I hope that all of our protesters make it home safely.

MusicMan and I had a good day. We went to see How to Train Your Dragon this morning and then to lunch. We also went to one of my favorite antique stores, but I made it out without a purchase.

So we are now home. After dropping me off at the capital building, Hubs didn’t follow up with his plans, he just sat in the car and watched instead. I’m sure he was very bored but at least he didn’t have to load up a bunch of stuff to take home.

The capital cops didn’t want my Taco table by the road, they were sure it would tie traffic up too much so they helped me move everything to the other side of the sidewalk. Then they stood by us and ate a couple of tacos. All of the tacos were gone in less than an hour, but most of the water got taken home by the person who brought it.

We stopped at the decent Asian buffet on the way home, then stopped at the good Mexican place for margaritas.

We got home just as the sky opened up, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of watching the magical sky water fall.

Long boring gossipy story happens now:

So…while we live in a rather affluent neighborhood, folks closer to the track tend to be much poorer. I don’t know if anyone remembers me sharing about the young woman banging on my window because she thought our house was on fire back when the smoker was in the back yard, but I see her walking by on a regular basis.

When we were buying this place, we also paid a hundred bucks for the patio furniture that came with very old, shabby worn out cushions. When I replaced the cushions, that same young woman came to the door and asked if she could have the old ones.

I warned her about their condition and we chatted a little. The next time I saw her, I gave her a couple of decorative pillows I had been planning to take to the SA and later I gave her a blender. Once I got her in the habit of looking at my door on her way by, I was able to start giving her perishable food.

This really makes me happy, she’s mentioned how much her daughter loves it when she comes home with fruit and I’m not throwing half bags of mandarin oranges away. I mentioned her to produce shop Boss Lady and she said I should start getting in the habit of taking food for her on
Thursdays because anything left on Fridays went to the Towers (low income apartments), so now she’s in the habit of looking at my french doors and waving when she goes by.

Yesterday I bought a pack of pork chops and a roasting chicken for her. “Oh nooos, I have too much food for our freezer, what ever will I do?”

Today I made her cry. Which made me cry as well, single mothers shouldn’t ever have to cry over a free chicken.

You need a new MMP name.

By the powers not vested in me I dub thee Saint Jane the Generous.

Go forth and spread goodness everywhere in your ample wake.
