(Old) Getting up steam in the MMP

Well, SIL goofed and took his meds this morning, which will mess up his scan, so he had to reschedule and I don’t have kids. I still have laundry, tho.

Saturday’s rain forecast may affect the NoKings protest - I can go anyway with an umbrella. It’s not that far a drive. We shall see how tomorrow goes.

Still waiting to hear from Daughter about flying Casey here. Guess I should hit the shower and gather the dirty clothes.

My wife is a teacher’s aide in a Special Needs room. She is constantly being licked and bit (along with hit, kicked, etc.). When she leaves for work, I tell her to try not to be tasty.

Mornin’ my friends.

It’s 52°F and cloudy as I type this. Clouds will remain today, and our high temperature is expected to be 66F. So, not a particularly nice day, but that’s good because then I can concentrate on indoor chores and not feel bad about missing out on prime yard work weather. But, I’ll probably still have to get out there and mess around a little bit.

I didn’t do much of anything yesterday, so today I need to get on doing that laundry, dusting, and vacuuming. Those dogs are shedding machines! I met up with T, and we walked a few miles. She showed me the plants that will require watering while she’s on vacation. I also need to monitor their bathroom for plumbing leaks. We spent a bit of time catching up, and then I came home.

JtC, I can understand how you feel. I’ve been purposely avoiding much of the national/political news. I…just can’t. It makes me sick and angry every time I read it.

Huzzah to all of you going out to No Kings Day. You all are the best!

I don’t mind mushrooms on my pizza. I much prefer veggies and mushrooms on pizza over meat.

I love your thoughtful birthday surprise, Sticky!

Your birthday dinner sounds quite lovely, Johnny.

JtC, hoping all went/is going smoothly for you at the moment.

I turned in my CAC card on my last day of work. It seems weird to be without one, but I well remember both my old brown dependent child ID card (Dad was in the Army), and my first civilian ID cards for the military installation I used to work on. The CACs definitely made things easier, though. Every time I say "CAC’ it reminds me of “AAAAACCK!” from Bill the Cat. At my last agency, we referred to them as PIV. How boring and useless was that info?

Speaking of work, they’re STILL asking if I would consider coming back. Not unless they change a whole lot of things about how they’re doing things administratively, is my answer. Also, almost every time I walk by my old WFH office, I have a compelling urge to go in there and check my email, even though I know there is no work laptop there. It still feels strange not to do that, even after a month and a half has passed.

Welp, that’s about all the news 'round these parts. Please take care of yourselves.

They make noxious tasting sprays to spray on your outdoor plants to keep wildlife or dogs away. She might try wearing that instead of Eu de Sucré each day.

Give it time; you’ll get there.

And big “never mind” about flying. They’d rather drive. So much for my efforts to make things easier on everyone. So they’ll spend at least 2 days on the road and I’ll have 2 days to myself.

And yet there are those of us who would ask How much will it hold? BTW, I would give your mushroom answer to the ingredient pepperoni.

We could only hope that he’d float out to sea.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of towels / sheets in the dryer and fixing to do KP. Other than some time spent packing, the only things on the agenda today are a quick run to the grocery outlet.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning everyone. I’m back from my second eye surgery. It went as well as last time, so from there we went to Tudors for breakfast, stopped at Aldi’s for a few things and ran through starbucks and now I’m sitting in my room with the drapes closed because I’m fully dilated and there is too much glare.

I’m also having double vision problems (due to the drugs and dilation, I’m sure), just like happened last time so I think I’ll stop looking at the screen and go out and look at the forest for a while.

They are in the back seat of my truck…

PIV is Post Indicator Valve in fire alarm speak. It is the red post about thirty inches tall you see on the outside of many buildings. The function is a valve that will allow the fire department to cut the water off to the building fire sprinklers from the outside

Back in the day, I lost clothes in the back seat of vehicles on a regular basis.

Bitter orange (sprayed on cords and such to stop critters from chewing them) actually has a nice, fresh smell.

That was such a big part of your life for so long, of course its taking you time to decompress.

I hope your news is good and that if you do have your cataracts removed that you will be as happy as I am with the results. I’m out of sorts today, I was up too early and started working on a caffeine withdrawal headache before we even got to the surgery center. Now my eye is sore and scratchy feeling and the bright lights are overwhelming. All of this is perfectly normal and very minor, nothing to be worried about, and I will be much happier in the morning.

Boo, happy doperversary, I’m so happy you are here. You really class the place right up!

EEK!!! Those are the reasons our fuzzbutts don’t have a catio. It was too hot and dry for fleas and ticks in AZ, this is all new and not so much fun to me.

Awwww! How fun was that, you are a very good daughter

I ate lunch quite a bit later than usual, and just had a banana, half of a turkey & provolone sub, and a 1-oz bag of chips. I am stuffed…and sleepy. :joy:

I had a couple of meetings this morning, but this afternoon has been blessedly quiet. A lot of the folks on my program – including two of my direct reports – work a schedule that gives them every other Friday off, and this is an “off” day. These quieter-than-usual Fridays are great for tasks that require some concentration, like writing user guides and instruction documents (which is what I’ve been doing most of the day).

I have no plans this weekend. You couldn’t pay me to go anywhere near DC or I-495 for the next 36 hours, so I’ll be sticking pretty close to home…if not entirely to home. I’ll likely just enjoy another weekend of being able to baby my toe. I wish I had another Lego set to work on!

Oh wow, that’s right! I’d forgotten she was interviewing with the company at the same time I had an opening on my old team. The guy I hired then is working for me again now, and he had his 1-year anniversary at the start of the month. I did this to his whiteboard:

https://i.ibb.co/GvB9fWPx/PXL-20250603-123447255.jpg

I asked him to give the banner back to me (vs throwing it away) if he didn’t like it, but as of Wednesday he still had it up!

Try it and report back!

My previous customer called them that, too. DoD personnel/contractors typically have Common Access Cards (CACs) – my current customer is the U.S. Navy – while other federal agencies use Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards. My previous customer was DHS*, and their cards were called both PIVs and badges. My CAC can act as ID, but I don’t think it would be accurate to refer to it as a badge.

(Answer: Not nearly as boring and useless as this info! :joy:)

*CISA, not ICE!

Hardly ever a bad idea.

Today was bananas. Literally. There was a box of dog squeaky to bananas to rewrap, a banana flag and its tube, which arrived at the slide separately, and a bunch of Blame bananas(which sounds like a conspiracy theory that Flat Earthers and Birds Aren’t Real people look down upon) lapel pins that arrived loose. The sort itself wasn’t bad until…

dogbutler: “At this rate I might get out early.”
< TVCTPMO bestirs itself, Balrog-like >
Sup: "dogbutler, go help the 100 Table, they’re at 100%
Shaggy: < appears to provide negative help >
100 Boxline: KABANG!!! ShakeShakeShakeShake
It took 15 minutes to get the boxline working. By the time we had finished that, the 200 slide was full of damages and rewraps, and it kept coming(rain and leaky trailers will do that).
Also, the pallet of assorted boxes for rewraps and overgoods arrived last night, and they left it outside. In the rain.
[Ellen Ripley]Excuse me, did IQs drop sharply while I was away?[/Ellen Ripley]
So I was out at 12:30, and I stopped to grap some catfish, and lettuce.
Me: gets in Carmen, starts her, see silver Honday behind with reverse and brake lights on, waits.
Honda: Brake lights go out, reverse lights go out
reverse lights go on, brake lights go on, reverse lights go off.
Brake lights go on, reverse lights go on, brake lights go off, reverse lights go off
Me:

So got home at 1:30, got glared at by Spot, and just now put the laundry in the dryer.

Yay!

Thee are people who pay good money for that sort of thing.

I still haven’t gotten my accumulated pennies to the radio station. I thought Mrs. Nott was just dawdling, but it’s more intentional than that. She’s decided to sort and roll them herself rather than turn them over mostly rolled. She has a stubborn streak. I knew that already, but as she additionally explained, one of the first things she learned to say as a tot was “I do myself.” Translated to grown-up, that’s, “I’ll do it myself, and refuse to let you help.” As she reminds me, it’s not like I just met her. (roll-eyes emoji)

OOOOokay, that was a couple days ago, when the computer wouldn’t let me post that. I’ll try posting this, then tell you what happened today.

Sitting in my car as a thunderstorm rumbles by and rain is pouring down. Have reffed 3 games but #4 seems a long shot but I can’t leave until they officially postpone it. Did have fun and had 3 close games but everyone was well-behaved.

Promise to read more once I’m back home

Today, we had the big table freshly cleared from a finished jigsaw puzzle, and we sorted and rolled all the remaining pennies in the big Canadian Club bottle. I already told the radio folks the whole bottle story, and maybe I can get them to help us lug all these heavy coins from our car to their office. I’ll give 'em the empty bottle to fill out the story and get it off my hands.

Enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, eyeballed some travel plans then said, naaah, not that interested; it’s too nice around here. Biked to the beach for a couple hours to sun & swim & loll, home, showered, catching up w y’all, then will head out for bar snacks dinner and live jazz at a scruffy dive ~15 miles downbeach. Might engage in further evil stops along the way home later.

Congrats to Jane for a successful retread of your 2nd eye. You’ll get a lot more mileage out of them now.

Best to all and enjoy the start of the weekend.

Yay, JtC!

I am eating TJ’s mushroom ravioli at this moment. It’s okay.

I called our FL credit union about adding Daughter to the account. Since the closest branch is somewhere in Jawja and we have no intention of going there, the nice lady is sending us the necessary paperwork. That way, should something happen to both of us, Daughter will already own the bank account.

I asked, while I had the agent on the line, if Daughter’s account was still active (she hadn’t used it in probably 15 years, I think.) Oddly enough, I remember the account number - I’m joint on it and it’s an easy one to remember, for example 123434, but not that. Anyway, she’s got probably $30 between checking and savings, and I assume the activity is the CU siphoning off some cash because it’s mostly inactive. Or something. The account was opened when she was in high school and we set it up so I could transfer $$ directly to her to help cover her rent. Once we get her on our account, I’m hoping she’ll close that and the other account she has there. But that’s going to be her problem.

Supper was soup. Chillage is underway. My participation in No Kings is weather dependent. I’m not going to stand in the rain for 2 hours no matter how important the cause is to me. I’m too old for that sort of thing. We’ll see what the morrow brings.

FCD has ordered jeans in his current smaller size. He’s wearing a belt that he hasn’t worn in ages. And he tried on a bunch of shirts that now fit. As of this morning, he’s down by 23#. He doesn’t think it’s much, but I know he’s doing really well. He’s maybe 20# from his goal, which will mean another pant size smaller. And he’s worrying about eating on the cruise. I am, too, but I’m pretty sure they have a scale in the fitness center, so we can monitor ourselves. It’s the self-discipline that will be rough, especially passing the desserts…

All righty, I need to update our food diaries, then my recliner beckons.

Surgery scheduled! As I thought the wrinkle narrowed down options. The good news is that the new lenses are fully covered. There will be a bigger gap between surgeries to see if I can handle one eye far one eye close.

Filet mignon and mashed potatoes for lunch.

Howdy Y’all! A successful day of RDOS inactivities today. Decided to not cook the greens until tomorrow as the plan now is to make a big old Sunday dinner which will be more like an early sup, but anytime between noon and six p.m. on Sunday counts as Sunday dinner in these parts. Kind of like how Sunday brunch can be anytime between eleven a.m. and four p.m. Maybe that’s just gay Sunday brunch. A major fartfest has ensued since sup, a few of which have positively Vesuvius like.

Sticky_Buns you win daughter of the year. What a cool gift!

Pilot sometimes ya just need a stogie. I wish there was like a cigar bar or some such thing around here. Once or twice a year we’ll have one out on the back porch or out by the cee-mint pond. With brandy, of course, cause we think that makes us look all suave, sophisticated and couthlike.

MOOOOOOM if the FFOTUS gets wet, all the orange might melt off him. Won’t anyone think of the orange goo!

MetalMouse hope the soccerin’ went well and the rain held off.

**JtC and Hippie ** I left many a pair of tighty whities in vehicles durin’ my misspent youth. Socks were left occasionally as well. I always managed to leave with shirts, pants and shoes however. Also, yay for successful surgery!

Rocker good news on the scheduled surgery and double good news on the insurance.
