I am so sad to hear that. ![]()
The blueberries aren’t an issue, as they are one of the few fruits that I like. Sis and BIL keep me in jalapenos, but raspberries, strawberries and blackberries are off the menu too.
My last PT tech told me that if she didn’t get cussed at least once over the course of treatment, she wasn’t doing her job properly.
Blueberries can carry e-coli as well as Cyclospora and should be avoided. Or that was thenews last week, who knows what money has changed hands since then.
I"m now having happy visions of lighting the end of that cane and beating a certain person with the flaming end.
A tall cup filled with strong black iced tea, lots of milk and sugar, and with little chewy gelatinous balls made from tapioca starch (boba or pearls). It’s yummy and addicting, so it’s good I can’t get one but two or three times a year.
JtC That is so cool of your doc, making a sammich board for you!
My last PT tech told me that if she didn’t get cussed at least once over the course of treatment, she wasn’t doing her job properly.
I believe that is standard wisdom, yes.
the HazMat contractor to retrieve it for dispos
Stay in school, kids.
(Or, hell, I dunno, maybe that’s one of those trade jobs that quietly net hella income. I neglected to ask my guidance councelor about “poop kollekshun” technician options.)

Heads up. Some people find the texture off-putting. They give you big, giant wide straws with which to schluck up the pearls - these, to me, are the best part - but as someone who can’t stand pulp in my O.J. I understand not wanting to chew your beverage.
But man, if you like 'em, you LIKE 'em.
Today was a toasty-warm day, and by the end of a rather short shift I was sweatin’ like a whore in church.
Rescued my lemon tree from crispy-fication before leaving to work, but it (like me) needs a long shower tonight.
Oh! I wrote a note to myself last night: “Water Lemon!”
… realized today it looks like a demented toddler wants me to remember to do something involving watermelon.
Meanwhile, Monks got some outside time after I got home (and returned promptly when called, what a Good Boy!) and I have seen fit to replenish both the booze AND the weed that someone keeps consuming.
So now I am thoroughly home & officially away from public view & thus, bereft of sweaty work clothes, and need to figure out what I want for dinner.
Next on the agenda: shove said food into oven/microwave, shove self into shower, then trade self for lemon and give it a nice soaking. Then eat.
Tiny funny:
I was prepping coleslaw cups, which get marked with the expir date from the original store container.
I told Alternate Manager that I prepped six, and did she want more?
“What date did you write?”
“9. Same like the container.” (That’d be Aug 9.)
“Wait, what’s today?”
“Uhh … Friday. I think?”
{ glaring at me in lighthearted Manager }
{ I know what she’s asking me, I just can’t answer the pop quiz }
“Sorry! I don’t know!”
(I checked a ticket printout to get the date, and we moved on after a bit of a laff, but there definitely was a moment of the “Are you friggin’ kidding me?” face, directed at yours truly, and really, entirely earned.)
Mornin’
A cloudy start to the morning, yet more rain due this evening. I keep telling the clouds that they would be much more welcome down south, but they don’t listen.
Not sure what today’s plans are. I do have a bit of a gnawin’ an cravin’ for the gooood bakery, but that means getting to a place an hour away before about 2pm or they’ll be sold out, which means getting showered and sheveled and stuff in a reasonable time frame.
I probably shouldn’t ask, but what’s all the deal with lettuce and stuff? Are the blueberries not OK to eat because they keep handling posted poop? I’m hoping those are different blueberries, but the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet… I’m guessing this may be one of those answers that requires blurred text.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 with clear skies until around twoish and maybe rain mid-afternoonish. We shall have quality cee-mint pond time later this mornin’ into early afternoon. Then it will be inside in the a/c for continued sloth. Sup will be BLTs and oven fries. IOW, we shall be our usual mile a minute excitatiin’ selves.
JtC how cool of your PT to make that sign for you! Also, if he is not torturin’ you, he isn’t doin’ his job.
shoe if it’s any consolation, remember I almost went and prepped the church for a funeral a whole week early. That would have been a giant step closer to the home for me.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Second to last day of vacation. I shall do a load of laundry. Spot is sacked out in the sunroom.
but there definitely was a moment of the “Are you friggin’ kidding me?” face, directed at yours truly, and really, entirely earned.)
Some days you forget how to brain.
I ate a Milky Way for you – did that help?
Whatta pal! But no… ![]()
We saw cars in the school parking lots today, that means teachers are getting their classes ready.
There’s a middle school virtually around the corner from us (maybe half a mile or so?) and there have been cars there on and off all summer. First day of school here is Aug 26 - dunno when Merrylande changed from day after Labor Day like when I was a kid.
Never put white tile in a kitchen
Also don’t use a busy, multi-colored granite countertop. I have to either run my hand over the counter or bend and shift to get light to reflect off the surface to see if it needs to be wiped. If the Money Fairy showed up with enough to redo my kitchen, I’d take great pleasure in watching the granite go away. (It was someone else’s idea to get that granite…)
guidance councelor
I hope other guidance counselors weren’t as worthless as mine. I was in high school in the early 70s and I was talking to her about getting a part-time job. She suggested I do ironing for people. Yeah, because that would prepare me for a great future…
I’m pretty sure she’d have fainted if I suggested enlisting in the Navy. So what did she know??
Regarding lettuce and blueberries and such, my ex-SIL (the guy Daughter finally figured out was a loser) works for Taylor Farms. 'Nuff said.
Looks like I’ll need to get my wedding band stretched again - I can barely get it past the knuckle, and the last thing I need is surgical removal. When I got it stretched the first time, the guy suggested size 7 and I insisted on 7 anna half. It started out really loose. Not any more. So back to the jeweler I shall go.
It was a cheapie ring to begin with (I ordered it on line when the rather wide ring I started with was causing pain on my finger) and when I get it stretched again, I’ll have paid more for those two modifications than I did for the ring in the first place. I should have gotten one of the adjustable types like the play jewelry we had as kids.
Once FCD rousts himself from bed, we’re going to Tequila Grill for breakfast. After that, who knows? The day will be what it will be.
Happy Saturday!!
Morning all. Up about 6:30am, at least my bladder let me sleep through the night, so feeling pretty good. About a 50% chance of tunder-boomers this afternoon, so we’ll see what develops. Going to help at a soccer ‘jamboree’ this morning if the fields are open, outside of that nothing much scheduled. I did get my new computer chair out of the box and the box chopped up and in the recycle bin, but ‘some assembly required’ which I will do later today. It’s ‘only’ getting to 87F today along with lots of humidity, so another good day not to be out and about.
JtC, what a simple yet brilliant idea (bread to pickup minute glass shards). Need to try and remember that come next breakage. As for PT and the ‘nice young man’, well, it will pay off in the long run and you will thank him, but until then you can read this and chuckle (might have posted it before here many moons ago): As Read: Exercise Diary | Car Talk And quite a nice act from that Physical Therapist.
Next on the agenda: shove said food into oven/microwave, shove self into shower, then trade self for lemon and give it a nice soaking. Then eat.
Do try and them in the right order, dear lady…
And thanks for the story (and grin) this morning. Had to look at the screen just now to confirm what the day is today.
Nut, hope you made in to the bakery in time.
FCM, I think I met with my Guidance counselor maybe twice in 3 years of high school, just wasn’t that big a deal. Never wore a ring (wedding or otherwise) so had no idea you could ‘stretch’ them…something new learned this week.
And been long enough since pills were taken, so need to break fast and check to see if the soccer fields are open or not. Have a good Sattiday all.
Went and had pizza with tiramisu for dessert. Don’t wanna cook, especially as the living room looks like a couple of teenagers occupied it - clothes and toiletry everywhere. Suitcases are still empty, except for a few items.
We’ve done most of the hard stuff - got all the meds and special stuff (haven’t worn a coat in months and it might be cold) but now we have to do all the counting of shirts, underwear, etc. and get everything in the suitcases.
Somehow, since the last time I flew (November 2025), my phone decided to get rid of the airline’s app, thereby logging me out. So the apps installed, and we have our boarding passes in our Apple Wallets.
And I’m sitting on the patio on my tablet. Motivation is real high. Are there people who like packing?
There was a brief argument with myself when the alarm went off. The side vying for staying in bed won, and I was late getting up. No big deal, I guess. I’m retired, so I won’t be fired for being a slug-a-bed.
Mrs. Nott’s nephew dropped by yesterday. He needed to borrow a sword for a Knights of Columbus ceremony, and I had one. It’s a big, gaudy thing with lots of engraving and such. My evil dad brought it home from a trip to Spain, and he gave it to me. My late brother got one, too. I dropped hints that if anybody wanted to buy the thing, I’m a motivated seller. Let it lean against the wall in somebody else’s dark corner.
It’s 9:26 am in this stripe of the globe, and time for the rest of breakfast.
Good morning.
It’s 60F with some haze and high clouds, although the air quality is much better than it has been in recent days. It’s supposed to be sunny with a high of 87F today, but I’m kind of wondering if our air quality will take a hit because there is a new wildfire in Mount Rainier National Park
. It’s not big, yet, but it is in a very difficult area to fight fires.
I did stay in bed a little longer today, and I’m already regretting it. Sigh, it’s not as if I have a schedule or someplace to be.

And I’m sitting on the patio on my tablet. Motivation is real high. Are there people who like packing?[/quote] I don’t mind packing for myself, but I always have to pack for my husband, too, and I don’t like that. It’s not that it’s hard, but that I don’t want to hear any griping about what I did or didn’t pack. I hope you both enjoy your vacation.
JtC, your PT guy is a treasure.
I’m kind of thinking I’d like to go to the Farmers Market down in the valley today. That means I need to get in the shower soon, because I like to go in the morning before it becomes a complete madhouse there. Parking is easier, too. I really, really want a salad, so I’m looking for some locally grown produce.
That’s about the extent of my plans for today, I think. I mean, the usual kitchen tidying, sweeping, and posey watering will occur. If the temps would come down a bit, I wouldn’t have to water every day.
Alright, I’m going to hop in the shower and get my day started. Please take care of yourselves.
Are there people who like packing?
When my mom was still cruising, she’d start spreading her clothes in the guest room about 3 weeks before leaving, just to be sure she had everything and didn’t forget anything. I make a list and generally pack the night or 2 before. I didn’t particularly like it, but I got good at it.
Breakfast was good, but with tip, it came to over $40 - the days of $25 for breakfast are long gone - I suspect even at McD’s.
I’m finishing the last corner of the garage. Lots of mousie poops! I’m loading stuff into the truck and there’s a pile in the middle of the floor for FCD to review. I dare not guess what he’d keep and what he’d toss.
OK, back to it. Pause for potty break is over, dammit!!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 24c/75f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app say “What the fuck is up with the fucking clouds, mate?”
Taters I saw the pics on FB from your family day out, looks like everyone had a good time!
Oopsie I hope everything turned out well with the medical stuff, and someone can talk sense into your brother.
Mollie that sounds like exciting news, I am so happy for you and your next steps.
Herald that does sound like my kind of stew, although I do like to be able to identify lumps of potato so perhaps I need to have stew with a side of potato ![]()
JtC you do know that PT stands for Physical Terrorist, don’t you? They start off nice but that’s just a false sense of security! He’s a good one, since he understands the need to combine therapy and protest at the same time.
Dicey I like the idea of having all my stuff packed, but actually motivating myself to do it is a chore in itself. I’m better if we’re going for a longer trip because that requires a list and thus things must be ticked off said list as they are packed. Our Belgium trip is only a few days so it requires much less thought/planning. I’ve spent more time faffing about making sure things are in place for the cats than I will do about making sure I’ve packed what I need. Well, I have a credit card and Belgium has shops, right?
Friday was a busy day in the end, I was not particularly productive at work but did have a meeting with my boss so we’re all caught up with stuff. I left later than I wanted to, but got home without too much bother. I didn’t have much time to do stuff at home as I had to be out later for a Pringo night (prosecco and bingo) to raise some money for Little Paws. It was a good night, there were plenty of people there and it looks like we will have raised close to £750 towards the never-ending vet bills. I was busy for a lot of the night checking winning tickets, helping with the raffle, and we all pitched in with clearing up at the end. It was after 11pm when I got home and sat down for a cuppa. 'im indoors sent me a text as he was out elsewhere so swapped messages with him and then went to bed.
I was up early-ish for a Saturday, got myself sheveled, tended to the needs of cats and then went out to do a couple of out-of-town errands. I came home and had some lunch, then messaged 'im indoors to find out what time he’d be back in case he wanted a ride home. I still needed to go into town to get a couple of things, and get my watchstrap replaced as it’s well-worn so that required a trip to the jewellers.
Fortunately I managed to get my stuff done quickly while 'im indoors was getting himself some lunch. I went to meet him, and drove us both home. Now I’m finishing up on here and he’s having a nap. Poor boy had a very late night and needs a rest before we go out tonight. I, on the other hand, am as fresh as a wilted daisy.
Well, made it to the bakery while they still had a few of the better loaves left - though not the onion bread which they occasionally do and I keep hoping for. I got a spelt loaf and an olive loaf, which will be breakfast for the week at least. Had a bit of a wander round some of the other shops as well, but not really looking for anything.
Called in at the garden centre on the way home, which had a bit of an end of year clearance on. It doesn’t count as buying plants if you get something you really were after and it was massively discounted from £12.99 down to £2, right? Especially if it’s a plant you can easily split…
Rain is due pretty much imminently, so I should get on with defilthifying the place a bit. 'Tis getting a bit of a mess. OK, a lot of a mess. My brain has been too filled with loftier thoughts… Hah.
First day of school here is Aug 26 - dunno when Merrylande changed from day after Labor Day like when I was a kid.
A few years before my sister retired, Texas went to not starting school until after Labor day. As a teacher, Sis said that it worked better that way, given that they barely got started before having a holiday before. When I lived in Tennessee, one of the counties where I lived tended to be the first in the state to begin school, usually early August.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, infused and fixing to do KP. My !@#$ing next door neighbor woke me up around 0630 this morning sitting out on her stoop, drinking beer and listening to loud music. It’s been a while since she’s done this and I hope that it won’t take more neighbor complaints to get it stopped again. I think I’ll take a nap shortly.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I probably shouldn’t ask, but what’s all the deal with lettuce and stuff?
There are several things involved, but farmers don’t have to provide restroom facilities for their workers. They also don’t have to provide bathroom breaks. This doesn’t result in the worker/slaves working more because they can’t stop to poop, they still stop and poop, but it is in the fields where it can easily contaminate the food.
Bagged lettuce is especially bad because during the process, the lettuce is chopped and mixed so one bag could have bits of lettuce from five or six different fields. If one of them happens to be a poop lettuce, all of the lettuce is the entire batch is contaminated and should be discarded.
And finally, back before trump, we had an entire government agency who’s responsibility was to track and warn the public. By this time we should know for sure where the bad produce is coming from but we don’t really even know if it is lettuce, blueberries, jalapenos or something else.
It was reported by that same agency (FDA) that the bad lettuce was coming from Taylor Farms but the TF president showed up at the whitehouse with a suitcase full of money and the FDA promptly changed their minds and said that TF was innocent and we should all buy some right away.
74F and sunny at 1050.
Made waffles for breakfast. They were spectacularly bland to me. I’ve been spoiled by the cornmeal pancakes, I guess.
Eldest son visits today with his youngest. That will be a nice diversion from the daily boredom.
Sadie is still forgiving us for the twice-daily eyedrops. Three more doses and we’re done with it.
