(Old) GoGo on Vacation - A Holiday MMP

Happy Sunday morning, all! It’s 9:47 and a humid and partly-cloudy 83°F (“feels like 88”), on its way to the same 92-degree-high we had yesterday. Happily, I do not plan to leave the house at all today…and, I get to work from home tomorrow.

After posting yesterday I moved to the kitchen table for lunch and Lego, and built the Hanging Golden Pothos set while old West Wing episodes played on my iPad Air. The set only had 372 pieces and didn’t take long at all, and I’m happy with how it turned out:

Here is it on display with my other Botanicals sets:

I started building the big X-Files set, but after a couple of bags my back started complaining. It was way too early to head to my BFFs’, and for whatever reason I didn’t feel like moving to the TV room, so I actually went to the living room and sat on my old couch for a while – for the first time since the move! – and read a couple issues of The New Yorker. I’m still three issues behind, but at least now I’m up to July (heh). I need to establish more regular reading habits, because I recently signed up for another subscription: a UK mag called Blocks, all about Lego (yes, there’s a much cheaper online/website version, but I’m actually worse about reading those than I am about reading print copies!). At least the new one is only monthly vs weekly.

Dinner with my BFFs and “nephew” was great. Nephew makes a mean roast beef, and while there was not Yorkshire pudding there was fresh corn on the cob (bought that morning at a farmer’s market) and roasted potatoes…and WifeBFF’s famous layered chili/cheese dip while we waited, and fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies for afterwards. WifeBFF sent me home with a container of the latter. We didn’t eat until around 7pm and I didn’t leave their place until around 9pm, and by the time I stopped at Safeway (which I’d intended to do on Friday, but knew I wouldn’t feel like dealing with today) and made it back home it was already after 10pm – so, I went right to bed after putting the groceries away.

When I finish this post I’ll fire up my work laptop and take care of a few things – approve timesheets, draft some emails for tomorrow morning, complete a promotion request form for one of my staff (I know I won’t have time for that during the week), etc. I’m hoping everything won’t take more than 1-2 hours, after which I’ll head down to the kitchen for lunch and Lego. Then I might do some more main-floor reading around dinnertime, before I move to the first floor for the evening (and do laundry, which I’ve already tossed down both flights of stairs…I love my drawstring laundry bag!).

I get why you’d think so, but 295 is actually so far out of the way that even with the 1-hour delay 95/495 was still faster!

My driving/flying needs are not the same as your Camino needs, but I still figure I’ll share that I recently ordered a new 20L backpack for travel. The old Eddie Bauer backpack I’ve been using for ~25 years no longer holds drink bottles (or anything) securely on the sides, and it has a good capacity but is completely unstructured – making it kind of a PITA to both carry and organize when it isn’t full. My nephew has this LTT model and recommended it when he learned that I was in the market, and after seeing his I pulled the trigger.

Please do!

I, too, enjoy “challenge” packing.

I’m a huge Beatles fan: I’ve seen Paul McCartney a few times, and after the Ringo Starr concert I’ll be able to say that I’ve seen half of them.

(I was only 9 when John was murdered; I was 30 when George died, but I didn’t yet appreciate his music enough to have gone to a show.)

I’ve read a few Alex Cross books in the past, but not the whole series – and not recently. I do like the TV show (Cross) on Amazon that started in 2024, though.

Last night I finally started reading a new book…I hadn’t picked up my Kindle since the move, either! A few months ago I was in a Barnes & Noble and the title caught my eye: I’m Not The Only Murderer In My Retirement Home. I downloaded a sample that day, and finally got around to starting it. I only made it a chapter in before falling asleep, but initial impressions are promising.

That was my parents’ anniversary, and also an uncle and aunt’s: my mom got married on her brother’s 5th anniversary. I knew the story at one point, but no longer remember it…maybe I’ll ask my dad sometime.

I recently realized that I haven’t seen any of the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, and decided that needs to be rectified! At some point I’ll spend some quality time with Disney+.

For some reason I got a mental image of a doggy softly woofing while struggling to poop (as a form of complaining), which made me laugh!

That’s how old WifeBFF was when she and HusbandBFF adopted their son as a newborn (they were at the hospital the day he was born); HusbandBFF was 43. They both look and act younger than they are, so it hasn’t really been an issue, but it is kinda weird that they’re now both in their late 60s while nephew is only 25. When he was a kid and I’d be out with them, many people would assume I was the mom.

This is the best thing I’ve read in a long time. :face_holding_back_tears:

I’m enjoying everyone’s adventures, both domestic and travelin’.

The size of the bedbugs this year…

But I’ve changed the sheets, dusted, swpt, and mopped, and cleaned the kitchen. Vacuuming and laundry will wait till Roomie awakens. I’m having HT brand waffles for breakfast.

I usually answer those with “It’s done, but there’s blood everywhere…

Alex J. Catt let out a yowl once from her litterbox. Which considering she passed a log that would have made me uncomfortable, is understandable.
And Spot would enjoy yeeting the Lego garden off the stand.

Just requested this one from my library (I prefer to find out if I like a book before I spend money on it). Does look like it has some nice dark humor potential.

@dogbutler , is feline “help” with bedmaking some instinctive thing with cats? Kasya was probably about 5 months old when we met her, and she already had that one (along with the “help” folding laundry). I don’t think Buddy taught her, I think she just knew.

The bacon is cooked. Before I did that, I decided since Spike moves back to school Saturday, I should make his favorite breakfast, Biscuits and Gravy. Okay, I cheat and use Pillsbury frozen biscuits, but I suck at making rolled biscuits. I always overmix them. The gravy was nice and peppery.

I used lactose-free milk. I stopped drinking milk everyday about twenty years ago, and sometime since then my lactose intolerance has noticeably diminished. I’m good for cream in my coffee or milk in my tea, but it’s gonna be a bad morning for me if I have a bowl of cereal. Lactose free milk is a godsend.

And when I go visit my mom, 295 (or 97) is (or are) closer than 95. So that’s where my brain navigation goes. Obviously your dad doesn’t live on the same side of town.

I did a quick grocery run since we were out of 'nanners and milk, plus FCD needed some cash and ibuprofen. We’ve had sammiches for lunch and I’m thinking I’ll crochet till he needs me to take up a paint brush. It’s too hot to work in the garden shed.

Decided on a Stouffers, since I’d finally cooled off enough that a hot, filling meal sounded better.

Part One: Accomplished. Awoke ezzactly at the crack of noon - granted, I didn’t go to bed until 5-ish. Other than a brief foray for potty & more water, I haven’t gotten up … and since there is a cat curled by my ankles & fresh water at hand, I see no reason to do so.

However, I did round up a lot of nasty trash lately AND replaced Monkey’s box, so (other than showing up for a coupla hours to work tonight) my main big goal for the rest of the day is to absolutely remember to roll the bin to the curb. It’s far too warm for forgotten trash!

The Oracles predict storms. We shall see. (Or as I like to say at work when someone asks me something I don’t know/forgot the answer to, “Let’s find out together!”)

I didn’t have braces as a young person. The clear plastic aligner trays I have now are cutting up my tongue in places, and I have been hesitant to file the edges. I got some dental wax. Instant relief!

Good morning, and a late start for me!

It’s 61F and mostly cloudy right now. The forecast calls for partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions with a daytime high of 82F.

Kitten Mitten, that sounds like quite a hectic adventure. I’d be a little displeased about trying to find sleeping accommodations that late, but sometimes things happen. I had to do that on a trip to Disneyland with the family.

I went to the Farmer’s Market yesterday on my own. I invited my husband, but he declined. I wandered around, bought some bougie dog treats for the pups, some lettuce and tomatoes, plums, cheese, a birdhouse, and some beautiful pastries. I almost bought a couple of flower bouquets, but I restrained myself.

The plan was to have BLTs for dinner last night, but that didn’t happen. I was telling my husband about all the food carts there, and once again, he said maybe he should go with me because he didn’t know they had all that.

I think some time this week I may take a solo road trip. I’m not sure where yet. I would have preferred to go east of the mountains, but with all the wildfires, that’s probably not going to happen. I might go to the Olympic Peninsula or maybe the Oregon coast. I must think on this a little.

As for today’s plans, maybe some laundry, some tree pruning (the neighbors’ trees hang over my fence, and maybe some work on the front bed I want to tear out and redo.

Time to get going because I’m really behind this morning.

Bit of a hazy day so far in MSP, but a cool 77Fairy Tights.

Went down to the dining room to have biscuits and gravy. They do a good job on it, although it always needs more pepper. They also make a good pot of coffee, surprisingly.

The wife was hot to go to a play today, but has lost interest. Just as well, as I’m really not much of a play fan. It’s also part of her pattern of wanting to do things, then when it’s time to execute, she decides not to go. I’m not being critical, but it is concerning to me. A couple of years ago we always went to concerts and plays and held season tickets. But this past year we haven’t gone to any of those and the season tickets end up as just donations. It’s part of her pattern of not leaving the building other than an occasional trip to the grocery store.

On a better note, here is a photo of our orchid. The wife is good with orchids, but this is hands down her best effort. Enjoy.

That photo reminds me a bit of looking out the window at The Black Cat in Fairhaven.

Happy Doperversary, Seanette! :shortcake:

I just wrapped up two hours of work – which I don’t begrudge at all because now I feel more prepared for the week ahead – and figured I’d pop in here one more time before Lego and then the downstairs couch consume me. But it’s 1:38pm and I’m pretty hungry (and it’s getting warm up here), so this will be short!

Same here! I always download samples to my Kindle: I read the first few chapters for free, and if I find that I want more I just click a button and buy the whole book…seconds later, I can continue.

He’s in Catonsville; so, we’re both far enough west of 295 for it to never make sense for that drive.

Smart!

I’m generally not a flower person, but that made me go “oooo!”

BLTs consumed. Have I ever mentioned how much I love a good BLT?

I just ran to the Publix to get fresh fettuccine for dinner tonight. I also restocked my La Croix.

On the way there, I noticed something. As I was driving home last night, the song Cake by the Ocean came on, and I just started dancing, singing, and doing cariography. The same song came on this afternoon, and I just kinda bobbed my head. I was in just as good a mood as last night, but this afternoon, I’m presenting as Maus, so (naturally) I was more restrained. The version of me last night was much more fun. And there goes the good mood I was in.

At the gym, the expected rain has apparently decided to be a RDOS today so skies are still clear and the temperature about 91F. Had the Meatloaf at Logan’s Roadhouse, they give you two large slabs of it, so some extra calories to process (and why are pecans so doggone good when mixed with dough and sweet stuff)? Will join the conversation once I am back home so take care all.

Mowage and laundry achieved. Good thing on the laundry, I have 8 uniform shirts for the museum, and last week was so hot I got 6 of them disgusting. 1 may not survive, new steel grease and bleach splatters.

I napped, then vacuumed, and took out the trash and recycling. It’s 93 degrees Ferret Height(33.889 Centipedes), with an Heat Index of 105F(40.556C)

It is a weird instinctive trait to evolve, but it must be.
:bottle_with_popping_cork: :shortcake: :partying_face:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY!!! :shortcake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

I’m a bit of a weenie and I hate being sick, so I tend to keep up with this sort of thing better than most. I’ve always looked sideways at bagged salads just because of the packaging process.

We have always had produce recalls and the bagged stuff was almost always on the list. Of course, back when we had a working FDA, the recalls were for specific products grown by specific farms in specific locations with on these dates, sold by those stores. It was easy to avoid the bad stuff back then. Now we are just relying on the internet and second-hand gossip.

Something that was kinda unfair about the current lettuce problems is that Taco Bell was blamed at first despite being the one of the first to report problems. It took a while for folks to really pay attention because Taco Bell food often causes intestinal distress, its a known feature.

I had a little salad garden on our back porch at the last place we had, I need to find a way to do it here as well. Cats can eat lettuce without bad results so I can safely bring my planter in over the winter.

So Jolene must have scared that deer off for a few days, the corn is still there. I have never had such a possessive cat before. We had two dog-agressive cats, but Jolene hates every critter but George. She also jumps up on the side window to growl at the UPS guy but he thinks she’s coming to say Hi and always smiles and waves at her.

Ms Peach has now graduated from throwing toys under the couch to tossing them under the porch. The porch has maaaybe 6" of space between the joists and the dirt. Current ball is probably six feet from the edge, it may be a permanent installation.

My 2 dogs ago Tengo went and hid there during a t-storm and I had to dig a trench for her to get back out.

I’m sorry your mood got soured, but I wanted to point out that ^^ is an awesome word, and I thank you for it.

120%, along with the whole “boxes” thing.

(Big cats like lions and tigers also follow the “if I fits, I sits” rule, but ya gotta scale it up a bit.)

Want. To. Touch. Gently.

There are some near-universal traits about us naked apes that amuse the hell outta me.

1a.) if soft & furry, want to touch/pet

2b.) if make silly brain go :star_struck: then mouth goes, “Ooohhhh!” usually accompanied by eyeballs going BIG

Well, if it’s a GOOD B.L.T. sign me up.

There was much BOOOMS and a bit of pitter-patter.

Lemon is still in my bathtub - we didn’t get enough rain to make it worth the effort to haul it back out, though I’m sure my still-outdoor agave enjoyed the drizzle. (Tough as nails, they are.) But lemon is looking perkier.

Does the museum replenish your uniform supply? When my last workplace began requiring uniforms, they gave us a starter pack, then replenished a couple of them twice a year.
