Not that I’ve ever noticed there, or most other fast-food places. It’s more places like Denny’s that have a senior menu, IME (I’ve availed myself of that in the interest of more reasonable portion sizes).
So there ARE chupacabras!

Up from naptime, having an Old Fashioned with my cheeseburger(Havarti, sauteed onions, stone ground mustard, Penzy’s Bavarian seasoning).
It’s good money, but it’s dealing with this every day for the next 20 years(and this isn’t the worst. Plus people like to pull out in front of me).
To be fair, *JtC posted at midnight, and I replied at 0100. swampy was still abed.
Package car: the brown delivery van
223: the package cars are numbered, because it’s a lot easier to find package car 223 on the Boxline than it is to find Route 65B
Bulk Stop: businesses that get a whole bunch of big boxes, as opposed to getting just a letter, or a couch.
Feel better, Pilot!!
Happy Birthday sensei!!
The McDonalds at the junction has had senior menus several times that I know of. I haven’t been there for years, though.
However, that particular McDonalds is at a major interstate junction and is often used as a “test kitchen” because 90% of their customers are travelers and most of them use the drive through because the so called dining area only has 4 or 5 tables and we all know how drive through customers are treated, right?
Next week, that alarm is going to start buzzing two hours earlier. but only 4 days instead of 5.
I really liked working 4-10s, but they did take some getting used to. I would run out of gas around the end of the 9th hour and then struggle. I didn’t even notice after a couple of weeks and having that extra day off was wonderful. I hope you like it as well.
When are you guys going to stop messing around with your clocks?!?! Geeze, louise.
I think George might be realizing that bacon is fud. He came to us from a breeder who raised his kittens underfoot and was too smart to offer them people food so George doesn’t know that hoomans eat fud too.
VBC will eat people food if it is offered, but she doesn’t ask so doesn’t often get it cause she’s such a pudgebutt.
So, tonight I baked a pound of bacon for Hubs to heat for breakfast and GG got really whiney when the bacon started smelling like bacon. Then he got naggy. Then he started going back and forth between the two of us demanding we fulfill his every whim.
I didn’t give him any, but he’s been sniffing up the garbage can (grease laden paper towels and parchment paper).
Seeing as how I made mini-frittatas last week, I made a crust-less quiche that included government cheese, cream and broccoli, home grown onions and free eggs that were produced by chickens fed free fud. I always feel so virtuous when I can pull something like that off
I keep looking at the Divinity recipe I have and wishing I had a stand mixer. I also want a food processor. And a bigger kitchen with enough counter room for all of my toys as well as well as all of hubs’ toys. I’m thinking about buying a kitchen cart that I could roll into the laundry nook, but we really do not need more stuff.
… wishing I had a stand mixer …
With the attachments, you would be SET on kitchen gadgetry.
I really liked working 4-10s, but they did take some getting used to.
I initially parsed this as liking “working 4 a.m. till 10 p.m.” and was briefly confused, terrified, and in utter awe of your stamina, all at once.
Made another candle. @LSLGuy this one’s for you - inspired by your posts describing the sea, the sky, and the clouds and surf in between.
That candle is super pretty. Have you ever heard of pouring hot wax over crushed ice to make a frothy looking candle? That one just begs for some surf foam on top.
My new Poll worker job means starting at 6am and finishing at 9pm. And spending the day talking to people.
Have you ever heard of pouring hot wax over crushed ice to make a frothy looking candle?
Damn you. And the rabbit hole imma 'bout to fall into.
1a.) It’s almost 1:30 in the morning, I really need to finish dealing with the ASFs. One of them is incessantly trying to chew through the steel wire mesh … hello, Pretzel snack! And the rest need to be moved into a bigger enclosure with lotsa clean bedding.
2b.) The best local place for crushed ice was … the shithole BBQ joint across the street, that is now closed.
3c.) I should probably eat.
That one just begs for some surf foam on top.
It “tunneled” as it cooled, so I could do that.
Damn you, woman.
I love you too
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
I think George might be realizing that bacon is fud.
Spot figured that out early on. He’s also into hunting corn, as his ancestors did thousands of years ago:
Nifty candle, shoe!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 12c/54f, and cloudy. Weather app tells me that “Stratus clouds are known for producing light rain or snow. They are also knobjockey twatfaces.” That must mean stratus clouds are not a favourite
Belated happies, Sensei, I hope you had a good day. We missed you!
nellie yay for improved sight, and housesitting.
Shoe lovely candle, beautiful colours in there.
Pilot feel better soon!
I also have some small level of crud this morning, sore throat and a stuffy nose, and a minor headache. OK, so irk is always a minor headache but apart from that, my head’s not really in the game today. Fortunately I only have one meeting that requires me to make sense, the other’s a union meeting so I can sit and listen to it, then vote yes to whatever’s next on the strike action agenda.
I hope I feel better during the day as I have to do food prep for my campus days this afternoon, and get the grocery shopping done this evening. Dinner shall be leftovers from Sunday night’s chilli, it’s been in the fridge so tonight it will be fulfilling its destiny. I think another cup of tea is in order before I have to do anything serious.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 77 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I can hardly contain myself with the excitatement. I could go deal with some errands, but that remains to be seen. Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ are also up. A jam packed day! Sup shall be leftover grilled chikin tenders from yestiddy, a mixed veggie casserole, and rolls.
Nellie hope you were not carried off by trash pandas and made their queen.
Pilot hope you’re feelin’ better and that the trip is still a go.
shoe cool candle.
JtC sounds like GG has figured out a new kind of fud. Now to get the servants to serve up the fud.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
WetOne SHHH! They don’t know I’m gay.
“They” who? Some deaf and blind hermit living in a cave in a remote mountain range on an island in the south Pacific??
Have you ever heard of pouring hot wax over crushed ice
Once upon a time many decades ago, my mom got into candle-making. She’d put a plain candle into a milk carton and dump in ice chunks of varying sizes to hold it in place, then pour in the melted wax. It would make a big, square candle with lots of holes thru it, so as it burned down, the light would shine thru. I haven’t thought about those in eons!
The big item on today’s agenda is laundry.
Here also. The toddler and I will hang in the basement while I de-dirtify our clothes. Good times!
Today began when I woke at 4:30, dammit, but I stayed in bed till 6. It showed 39° when I let Higgs out - but by Firday, we’re promised 80s! Then on Halloween, the high will be low 60s.
Thanks, all, for the nice words about my crafty crap. I’m going to make one more pair of fingerless gloves, then I’m done for this round. I need to figure out how I’m going to display everything. And I’m going to make a big sign that says every penny spent at my table goes to the school. Other vendors pay for a table and keep their proceeds - I kinda hope I can sell more if people know it’s for the school and not for me.
I’m in the scratchy throat/drippy nose club, compounded by still being a tad draggy after the weekend on the road. I can tell I’m getting older because I don’t bounce back like I used to. And my eyes are getting worse. And I crackle when I stand up. and then there’s my memory…
As I’ve said before - if I knew I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself…
Happy Tuesday!!
That is a very cool-looking candle, Shoe. Mrs W was once into candles, but they’ve been banned from our house ever since one of the cats set her tail on fire (not either of the current ones).
Yesterday, one of my colleagues expressed concern that we might be sent home early (thus with a smaller paycheck) because we’re getting the count done faster than expected. I pointed out the irony that being good at our job could cost us money.
The project manager told us not to worry, we’ll work the entire scheduled time no matter what. “We’ll find something for you to do.”
So the good news is I’ll be making all the money (yay!), but that also means I’m officially stuck in BF Arkansas until November 3. And I might end up pushing a broom or something for a few days, but whatever.
Cookie, sounds like maybe you went to Mayslacks. When Stan Mayslack ran the joint, nothing was better than his beef sandwich. The bun usually disintegrated from the juice. Congratulations on all that sleep. I am just a touch green with envy.
It was Busters on 28th Avenue, actually. I looked at Mayslacks online, but the sandwiches looked too large to get one’s mouth around.
Made a last-minute drive to the Arboretum yesterday to look at all the purty leaves and dahlias, dahlings. Pretty impressive display by nature, I must say. Looks like we’re sliding into colder weather later this week, with a high of 37F by Saturday and a possible snow shower. It may be time to break out the chili pot.
Mornin’ all. Somehow slept in to nearly 7am so had just a few minutes balconatin’ & caffinatin’ afore the sun emerged. Now indoors at about 0830 on a breezy sunny day. NWS says 79/24 on the way to 84/29.
Cutting to my chase:
Between two 3-hour naps yesterday and a bit over 8 hours sleep last night I seem to be fully healthy and our trip is a “go”. Slightly congested, but as a passenger I can fix that with meds I couldn’t use when irking. This retirement gig is kinda nice.
As to y’all:
Made another candle. @LSLGuy this one’s for you - inspired by your posts describing the sea, the sky, and the clouds and surf in between.
Aww, made me blush. That is real purdy though. Thank you.
Yaay Boofae for a day easy enough to tackle in your semi-reduced state. Boo for having a semi-reduced state!
Cookie: looks like winter is hitting the northern tier right now. More west of you today, but first snow and last dahlias are imminent. I agree beef on weck is one of those things that’s more nostalgia than wonderful. I didn’t grow up with them, so never quite saw the point when a good pastrami or corned beef was available.
As to me:
I did all my laundry yesterday, so my today is figure out what to pack, and do a couple of admin things that would be better done now than a week from now. For the highly standardized mission of irking, packing was always a no-brainer; same as last time, just replace dirty with clean and empty for full 1-for-1. This time it’s novel. Need to be especially careful about all the stuff I took for granted that was always in my bags but isn’t right now.
It’s now a bit after 9am, so a bit over 30 minutes to read & write.
Happy 2sday, and hoping it won’t be a terrible twos-day for anyone! Cheers all!!
Strong tea has been drunk and the news read.
I have a buttload of walnuts and raisins left over from another recipe, so I just stirred up a big batch of oatmeal/walnut/raisin cookies. The dough is chilling in the fridge, and in about twenty minutes I’ll start baking. Huh, the recipe says keep the temp rather low (300 degrees) and bake for 20-22 minutes. That’s a bit odd. It claims to be the Mrs. Fields oatmeal cookie recipe, so maybe it’s trying to emulate the soft chewiness of her cookies. We’ll see.
FCM, I’m in awe that you could do two twelve hour drives in two days. We just got back from a vacation where we drove about 7 to 10 hours per day for two days in a row, and I was so tired that I was sick. In fact, on the return home leg, we split it into three days, staying impromptu at an interim place when we were four hours along on the drive. I’m 67 and I just couldn’t take it.
I kinda hope I can sell more if people know it’s for the school and not for me.
I have no doubt this will be the case. I could see someone being kinda on the fence about whether or not they really need a crochet jellyfish in their lives, and then seeing your sign and thinking, "Well, it IS for a good cause … "
if I knew I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself…
True dat.
So the good news is I’ll be making all the money (yay!), but that also means I’m officially stuck in BF Arkansas until November 3.
The nearly guaranteed paycheck is a relief! And don’t worry, we’ll keep you suitably entertained.
Morning all. Another bright sunshiny day here in N. Ali-bama, about 62F now heading to 79F later. Have broken fast already and don’t have much outside of gym and coaching 7-year old soccer on the agenda. Might make a Wal-Mart run today although I have it on the plan for tomorrow, but hey, I’m retired, I can change things when I want to!
Pilot, glad you’re feeling better, have a good trip and hope the plane doesn’t tilt…(other MMP’ers, please see this post if you’re wondering what I am talking about-Pilot already is in that thread: The Great Ongoing Aviation Thread (general and other) - #4718 by wolfpup
Lucky, walnut/raisin/oatmeal cookies…now I’m hungry all over again…
vroom, never did the 4-10hr day routine, but the folks I knew who did it adjusted pretty quickly and seemed to enjoy the extra day off.
doggio, you said
…as opposed to getting just a letter, or a couch.
I’m sure you meant pouch instead of couch, but thinking about a brown van with a bunch of couches inside it does give me a grin this early in the morning…
JtC, a pound of cooked bacon? Last me maybe 2 days if I wasn’t really hungry…which is why I don’t keep bacon in the house anymore…
shoe, lovely candle.
boofae, hope you feel better soon.
Wheelie, glad the company is going to take care of their folks money-wise, even if the work is less than optimal.
OK, need to be about the morning internetting and then plan the rest of the day’s sloth. Take care all.
Happy Toosday!
I have a lot of catching up to do.
It has been… rough.
I was sick for a while. No idea what was wrong. I was freezing all the time, teeth chattering, shivering, freezing, but no fever.
Then there was moving. My poor son, I did some packing, but he did everything else.
Loading the truck, unloading the truck, putting everything away.
We are down to the shed and back porch now. Then we’ll get movers to move the stuff he can’t move by himself. It won’t be much; I hope it won’t be trouble to find movers because it will be too small of a job to be worth it to them.
We still have to move Adam. My neighbor took all my plants and she is willing to take Adam as well. I think he may be better off staying with her. He only goes inside to eat anyway, and he will be on his familiar turf. My son wants to bring him, so he will be coming to the new house tomorrow.
I bought a table for the back yard so he has some place to get away from the dogs.
My son put the table together, let the dogs out, looked out the window and all the dogs were on the table staring in the window back at him.
So much for a safe place for Adam.
My son washed all the bedding when we got here, and then had to do it over because I am allergic to the detergent I bought. I would have rewashed them, but he doesn’t want me touching the washer. Having the washer/dryer as one unit is very convenient, even if it does take 2+ hours to do a load.
We’re still figuring out the stove/oven. It pre-heats in 2 minutes, so a lot of stuff got a bit burned at first.
To top it off for my son,
He got a summons for jury duty.
I’ve had jury duty more times than I can remember. I told him he will be bored to death.
I have to do something with the shower here. I hate it.
The seat is in the back, but all the shelves are in the front. The water pressure sux. But worst is the damn shower hose. It’s too short to reach the back of the shower. It’s rubber and it wants to hold its shape. I have to wrestle with it the whole time to get it to spray in the right direction.
There is still so much to do. It is overwhelming.
The dogs love the new backyard.
As far as bats? I think they are fine somewhere else.
I don’t want anything that carries rabies close to me, and that includes raccoons, skunks, foxes, feral cats. I tolerated the bat in my attic, as long as it stayed up there. And it was only one.
Call me Arby’s because I have the meats! I went to Aldi and got chicken thighs, boneless chicken breasts, stew beef and lunchmeat. The pre shopping heaving went smoothly, apart from Cranky Old Blueberry. They had her unzipping the bags, and she wasn’t having any of it. Panamanian Vince tried to show her the error of her ways but got a bunch of “this is stupid”, and “$21/hr is chump change”. Somehow I don’t think she is going to be here on Day 31, one way or the other.
I’m sure you meant pouch instead of couch, but thinking about a brown van with a bunch of couches inside it does give me a grin this early in the morning…
Nope, couch. Also, mattresses, chairs, and 137lbs. entertainment centers. And somebody on one of the routes either owns a furniture store, or refurnishes their house every week.
{{{{sari}}}} glad ou’re at least OK enough to post. We worry.
