When you get a haircut, you know you’re going to get the same reaction from pretty much everyone you know in meatspace – namely, “hey, nice haircut!” As (I think) Scott Adams once noted, though, it can’t be true that your hair looks better every time you change it, or else the hairstyles of the elderly would rank among the seven wonders of the world for their sheer beauty. Sometimes, your new hair just plain sucks.
So, where do you go to get people to tell you whether or not you look stupid? Simple: the internet! More specifically, this thread! Post a picture of yourself with your current hairstyle, and one with the hair you had before. The wise – and opinionated – denizens o’ the Dope will then let you know if you’ve made the right choice, or if you’ve committed a coif faux pas of the highest magnitude.
I’ll start. (Well, actually NinjaChick started, so I’ll rate her new hair first: I like it, suits her face more than her old style did, and it’s very much an individual expression.) Last October, I grew my hair out and bleached it blond for my Halloween costume, and I only this week bothered to get it cut. As usual, all I have are crappy cell phone pics, but…
I like both of the first two. I’m not sure which one’s better. Your new hair is really cute; your old hair made you look more serious (and it’s not just your facial expression), but that’s not necessarily bad. The third…might want to run a brush through that a few times.
Pullet, to the best of my knowledge I am nobody’s husband. Care to submit your hair for consideration?
Roland - You’re younger than I thought from our email exchange a few months ago. The blond looks younger than the dark. Whether that’s good or bad depends on who you’re trying to impress.
HNC: new hair with flat iron is way hot.
Pullet - New is best. back & up is not your look.
Renee - Length is fine. Red & blond are quite different, but each complements your face. It depends on whether you’re trying to really stand out (red) or be the quiet-but-hot girl next door (blond).
I haven’t changed hairstyles in eons, so I can’t add my head to the fray.
aside: Imageshack is an evil website with annoying ads & popups. I move for a boycott.
Pullet, I like your new hair down. Renee, you are gorgeous with red hair - the length looks fine to me, although it looks like it’d be a bitch to take care of.
Roland: Definitely new hair, but I think a more sandy brown would be even better. The blond was too yellow.
HazelNutCoffee: Both look great.
Pullet: Like the new hair best–your hair is pretty.
Miss Purl McKnittington Old hair - you have great hair, too. I like the second “old hair” photo best…the new bangs are too short, but they’ll grow.
I’m glad people like the red–I was really sick of the blond, and the red is very easy to take care of. I just wash it at night, go to sleep, and brush it in the morning. No dryers or fuss…my husband takes longer to do his hair than I do, and he’s got a military cut. The henna pulled some of the wave out of it–when it was blond it had just enough kink that it needed some sort of straightening to look good, the red is fine with nothing, and I can dye it at home.
Yeah, I tend to agree. The flat-iron hair makes you look like your 14. I mean, I know that being Korean and all you naturally look pretty young anyway, but your hair in the first one somehow makes you look more mature.
I don’t have any hair pictures myself. My hair is ever so bland and boring. It gets “long”*, then I cut it and it’s short.
*My hair doesn’t really ever get long, it just gets out. And then it gets curly…I hate it.
The vote in real life has overwhelmingly been in favor of old hair, as well. I just don’t have a big enough face for that kind of bangs to work. Although I have received two marriage proposals from kindergarteners since I got them, so maybe they do have fans out there.
Renee, no one has every told me I have great hair before. Thanks!
bouv, do you still have that moustache from maybe two picture threads ago? Victorian gentleman’s friend style?
Oh man, I can’t believe anyone actually remembers my Morgan Spurlock impersonation days. I no longer have the mustache (I do sometimes grow a full beard,) but I think I still have the pictures floating around…
Here are the walrus stash pics: 123
Renee I like the red. Makes your eye color awesome.
Miss Purl: The bedhead photo is probably best, but I think you look cute currently. Be glad you can wear headbands! I would love to have some options for having my hair both down and out of my eyes at the same time, but headbands make me look like this bouv So you’re not rocking the man-stash any more?
