(Old) Happy Earthday in the MMP!

Put them in your car trunk. They are sealed and won’t go bad if they get a little warm, but make it harder to get to them. That way you have to not only make the decision to eat a bag, you also have to find your keys and walk all the way out to your car which might be too much work.

So far I’ve filled five boxes out of my stitching room and I’ve only tossed less than half a can full. This does not bode well going forward. I’m not even going to consider going through my actual stitching stuff, I’m just going to tape the bin lids closed. Everything is sorted between the five bins so I’ve got that going for me.

I hadn’t realized how many lamps I have in here, but of course they are all getting packed as well. WV is darker than AZ, I’m sure I will put them all to use in the future.

Aren’t you optimistic! Best of luck

Keep your eyes open for a stainless steel one. I’ve had mine for almost 8 years and while it has a few dings in it, it works like the day I brought it home.

No good deed goes unrewarded, LOL!!!

You’ll need them in the winter when the sun is down before five o’clock. When I lived about halfway up the Cumberland Plateau, there were days that the only daylight I saw was going to work on second shift.

One of the ones that I’m replacing is stainless steel, but the lid isn’t. This time, I’m going for both to be. I usually have pretty good luck finding things like that at thrift stores. People buy them as gifts for those they don’t know what to buy for.

Today I was dealing with family stuff all day, but I wanted to pop in because someone told me there were tornadoes near Omaha. It seems that they were closer to Lincoln, but just wanted to say hope Boo is OK.

Thanks for your patience with my long post last night. While I think the guy’s parents exacerbated his issues, I think he was probably born a psychopath. I was ready to cut them some slack because he WAS a difficult kid to raise, but then I remembered they abandoned him completely when he got sent to juvie, so no sympathy there, though he did plan to murder them, so…Ugh.

And yet he’s your biggest fan.

Does this mean he had it to himself, or just that it wasn’t crowded? I like to think of him zooming around with his buddies.

FCM, hope you and FCD have a good time at the boat show. FCD deserves a fun day after all he’s been through. Of course, so do you…

And from getting her dinner, too, right? So it’d be in her best interest…

flyboy, I hope you don’t get assigned vacuum duty on a permanent basis. That’d really suck.

[quote=“JaneDoe42, post:201, topic:1000607”]

JtC, good luck with the packing! Where are you getting all your boxes? It’s amazing how many boxes it takes to move one household, isn’t it?

That really WAS shocking! And I’m very glad that he did not act out against you.

{{{FCD}}} pain and not being able to sleep because of it is no fun at all; Hubs is commiserating with FCD and I understand the worry about his Mom adding to his stress.

If MIL goes to IN for 2 wks, perhaps you and FCD might be able to enjoy a nice boat trip.

metal mouse that is quite a busy schedule you have for tomorrow morning. hope you are able to sleep well tonight.
And JtC’s suggestion is a good one. Myself, I put chips and cookies and candy down in the basement.

Nice evening. Pulled pork taco salad and two Hemingway daiquiris at Smuggler’s Tunnel, followed by guitar and singing from Wifey, RN’s visually-impaired patient, and (I think) three IPAs. A nice five or six hours.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my firday!

I’ve never had a box cat. I think they are like ROUS.

I didn’t get this at first, then I was like “Eureka!.”*
But hope the family stuff wasn’t too much, especially after the student.

*“It’s Greek for ‘My bathwater is too hot!’.” - the Four Doctor

Ar? It’s a quarter 'til midnight. I’m about to go to bed!

I work opposite all you daywalkers.

Picked up the My First Bifocals ™ on my way into work.
Swear to god, if ONE more person tells me, “You’ll get used to them!” … { shakes fist }

I was nodding my head up and down like a baby duckling, especially at first.

Plus, I was kinda having an internal fit about the whole thing while I was there, and then the woman next to me was like, “I’m getting trifocals for the first time!” and I was like, “Bitch, let me have my moment!”

… gotta one-up me like that!

Oh, and I had a heart-to-heart with Sweet Manager and she promptly moved me to Friday close wid da boyz. As in, on the spot.

She understood why, too, and when I told her I felt bad - I did feel like I was throwing my coworkers under the bus - she told me SHE felt bad, that she’d been putting me through this.

Shit like that is why I call her here what I do. It’s a play on her IRL name, but she more than earns it in her management style.

Anyway, I was kinda like, “Well, wasn’t planning on a 10-hour day, but OKAY!”

… and treated myself to Chinese food on my lunch break, since I hadn’t ezzactly packed anything (and the emergency can of Spaghetti-Os in my locker didn’t sound nearly as appealing as celebrating my little epiphany about my own work stuff. And having it dealt with so swiftly!)

I yanked the bifocals off during my lunch break but otherwise forced myself to wear them throughout my (unexpectedly long) shift, so I did my due diligence as far as getting used to them.

But it felt even better taking those off when I got home than the damn thong I’d been in for all that time.

Closing went exactly as I’d both hoped & expected: fast, efficient. They’re not silent monks - there’s definitely some fucking around - but all the joking is done while doing shit which is all my little heart wanted.

Plus, the guys all (other than Car(e)less Co-worker) know their stuff so well, I feel like the weakest link, which motivates me to try so hard to do my best or even better.
(Can’t have da boyz thinking, “Aw, no, a girl!” Gotta represent for the female side, amirite?)

With some of the others, though, when I feel like I’m propping them up, I’ll admit, I’ll let tiny mistakes of mine slide (“Ah, fuck it. I’m doing better than everyone else anyway!”) which is a terrible mindset to have.

All that to say, an unexpected Long Night was still a good and non-exhausting shift. Means a lot to me.

Oh, they got a helluva good laugh at my expense on one thing, though: one of them was cleaning a fryer, and he does it differently. When I was curious and he walked me through his method, he wrapped up his brief lecture with, “Yup. Quick and easy.”
Without really thinking, I answered quite genuinely, “I’m a big fan of quick and easy.”

The other guy caught my eye, I realized what I’d just said, stammered out something like, “Can I get a do-over?” and they both just lost it.

Come to the dark side … oh wait. You’re already here.

This would totally work with me.

Plus, I’d forget the damn things were in there (until the next time I made a hard turn too fast - “WTF is sliding around back there?”) which would probably help the plan.

Alright, time to polish off the last of my celebratory Mongolian beef and tuck into bed.

Yessir!!

Boo is ok, but sirens sounded just as my daughter and I arrived at the Child Development Center to pick up kid #2 to take both kidlets for a haircut, so I spent an hour in a windowless hallway in a preschool with 60 toddlers crammed into the interior bathrooms. ‘‘Twas an experience. When it was over and safe we all trooped away to take the 2 1/2 yo over to get his first haircut, his 6 yo sister went first to show him that it would be ok. The sky was that awful sickly pea green yellowish harbinger of doom but we are all safe, thank you for caring.

At least one tornado touched down by the airport, another destroyed a factory building about 4 miles from my house. Four workers were injured but not seriously and all are expected to recover. I haven’t heard about how hippie fared in Omaha-it’s 2am and I just got home from Grandma babysitting so haven’t heard the news.

I’m still up to see you off to work most nights :wave:t3::wave:t3::wave:t3::wave:t3::wave:t3:. Once a night nurse, always a night nurse.

Bed is gonna feel mighty good-I’ ve been going non-stop for 19 hours and lived through a tornado and my grandbaby’s wreath of golden curls shorn in front of me (the stylist gave me an envelope with a lock of hair, snif, snif).

Will wind down for a little bit, then hit the bed. A snack and a truncated Netflix binge will probably be involved.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with a predicted high of 9c/48f and cloudy. Weather app says “Your moves are fucking weak, Sun, you need to fucking do better than this.” It’s definitely cloudy out there, and there’s a small chance of rain this afternoon but it seems unlikely.

Busy day ahead - gym for a couple of hours, then straight to the hairdresser to get frou-frou’d. Then back home for a cuppa, collect 'im indoors and go to the Good Chinese Place for lunch. I’ve got some stuff to do in town, then back home where it’s my turn to make dinner. Then we’re off to see some bands in our local rock pub. After all of that, I predict a day of High Sloth on Sunday!

Good morning! No foul mouthed weather predictions here, lol. Just me and Annie hanging out and contemplating breakfast. Boo, glad all were safe from the tornadoes. That must have been a real adventure to take cover from a tornado with so many littles!

Ok, hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 66 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 81 and somewhat N.O.S. I may or may not accomplish mowage today. We may or may not go to the bar down the road for a burger and a beer. Such is the life of the retired and slothful.

Boo glad you are safe. Tornadoes are definitely no fun!

Sticky_Buns OYKW and I are lucky to have each other. Lawd knows no one else would put up with either one of us.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

The nearest it to us happened as it chewed through Elkhorn, about ten miles from us. My BIL, who lives south of Blair NE had some serious damage. His roof came off intact and landed in his front yard. My SIL, who lives outside of Crescent IA, lost her barn and a small rental house she had on her property.

It seems amazing the there were less than ten people injured through the whole thing.

Considering how much has to be done on the boat, we won’t be taking any trips this year, alas. But being able to spend the day at the marina futzing can be fun, too.

Taz loved boxes. Ziva doesn’t. I guess there’s a box gene somewhere in cat DNA.

Aren’t big sisters the bestest?? Roxy is so protective of her brother, it’s heartmelting!

Did I mention that at her b-day party every time a new guest arrived, she introduced them to her baby brother! It was too adorbs!!

PS - glad you’re OK. I saw the crushed factory on the news - too scary…

:open_mouth:
How awful!!! I can’t even imagine!

Not to be tacky here, but I had a sudden vision of trying to cover a roofless house with dozens of blue plastic tarps. I guess that’s what you call black humor.

I was up pretty late because I had to finish the latest cheezy novel I was reading. Even for a cheezy novel, the ending was really Deus-ex cheezy! But I don’t read that crap for education or spiritual fulfillment. It’s all brainless escapism, and this was especially so.

Anyway, maybe 6 hours of sleep. It’s going to be overcast and chilly in Annapolis - maybe that’ll keep the crowds down. I need to move some stuff from my everyday purse to my small cross-body bag - don’t wanna risk dropping anything in the Severn. And I need to figure out what shoes are easiest to slip in and out of - they don’t let you aboard any boat wearing anything other than socks on your feet.

We’ll stop somewhere enroute for breakfast, then park at the Naval Academy Stadium and take the shuttle into town. Parking in Annapolis doth sucketh mightily, especially on a Saturday during a boat show.

Tomorrow, there’s a car show in Leonardtown to benefit Hospice - we’ll be going for that, too. I’ll make sure to have a donation for them - especially with MIL scheduled to talk to the hospice folks this week.

Such an exciting weekend ahead - try not to envy me!

Happy Saturday!!

Morning all. Up early for a busy soccer day, have broken fast and will visit the smallest room in the house in a few minutes, then try not to forget anything before I leave for the fields. Already 68F and heading towards 83F with no sudden thunderstorms to interrupt games today. Will report back once I am back home and more or less safe and sound.

Boo, hippie, glad the storms gave you a pass, even if it made life a bit exciting. Hope your family members are covered by insurance, hippy.

FCM, enjoy your ‘date time’.

JtC, unfortunately I have an SUV and it’s overflowing now with soccer stuff. Did beat back temptation last night and will get out of here this morning with no further intake, so there is that. Happy packing! As for scheduling, the U8 girls play 2.5 quarters each and the ‘big girls’ play 3 quarters each, so I think I’ve divided them up pretty well.

Cat Glove, got about 7 hours sleepage, so should be good to go. Like the old saying goes, it only hurts when I stop…

OK, need to get my stuff together, figure out what pocket it goes in and get ready to head for the fields. Take care all.

shoe, you’re both ladies who like gents, or I’d say you ought to marry S.M.. And glad cleaning went well.

I went out into the catio and heard a cat crying pitifully. ‘Help me! Help me! Help me!’ He’s high in a tree somewhere, and I wasn’t able to see him. The neighbours take their cats in at night, so he’s probably been up in the tree, in the rain, all night. The neighbours are probably still asleep. Poor kitty. :crying_cat_face:

Genius! Dum-dums. What can’t they do?

You all keep talking about tea. My favorite cold version, if I can’t get fresh brewed at a restaurant, is Cold Brew Iced Tea. Except it means I have to be organized and set it up the night before. It’s anyway not quite warm enough.

I don’t like lemon in my tea, unless there’s honey and booze. But then I’m sick, so rules go out the window.

One jet-lagged even I asked for ice tea without onions. My in-laws aren’t going to let me forget that any time soon.

When my husband goofs up something easy, I tell him that he’s cute.

Birthdays that super sucked were my 23rd (major blizzard and we were stuck at home in a one bedroom apartment) and my 50th.

My 50th birthday coincided with the beginning of the global lockdown. Not the best year to turn 50 - most of my friends had to cancel their parties, or substitute with Zoom.

Have you given this advice before? When reading metalmouse’s dilemma, this was exactly my thought.

Aka European time. Actually, I think UK time.

Boo, that’s way too many toddlers for me. Glad you’re safe and kept your sanity.

Today was breakfast (french toast and bacon), recycling center (got rid of no-longer needed flatpack furniture), farmer’s store (bought plants and seeds), grocery store M (marshmallows) and grocery store C (potting soil and milk) and gardening (planted plants and seeds and then watered).

Except for the recycling center, all other travel was by foot. My feet have had enough. Enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and drinking water, which I need after all that activity.

Happy Saturday!

Good morning.

It’s 49 degrees, slightly damp, and cloudy outside. The forecast said it’ll be considerably cloudy all day, with periods of rain and a high temperature of 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

I’m glad to hear that hippy and boo are okay, but sorry to read about hippy’s family member’s property damage. I’m also happy no one was hurt.

shoe, I’m happy your conversation with S.M. provided good results.

Johnny, I am reading with interest about some of the places you and Mrs. L.A. dine. I’ll be up at Semiahmoo next month, and I’m looking for dinner options other than the hotel. I just looked up the drinks menu at Smuggler’s Cove, and a few of those sound quite tasty!

I also found out that the second week of July is going to be an extremely busy travel week for me. Someone from National is coming out wanting to do a safety inspection of our spaces. I wrote back to him explaining that it’s five hours between the west side of the state and the east side of the state, but he insists this is what he wants to do because he’s been here before. The last time was over 20 years ago, it’s grown a lot out here and he just doesn’t get it. Anyway, on Monday, 8 July, I need to be up in Mount Vernon. On Tuesday, I need to be down in Olympia, then drive to Port Angeles, then back to Olympia and home. It’s a two-plus hour drive between Olympia and Port Angeles, so I don’t really relish spending four hours on the road just for inspections and the additional combined two-hour commute to and from home. He tentatively planned to visit our Vancouver office, but we no longer have a presence there, so I’m hopeful Wednesday can be a travel day when I drive to Spokane. Thursday is the inspection for Spokane, and then I’ll drive to Wenatchee or Yakima, whichever office is first on the list, and wait for him to arrive. Both offices will be inspected on Friday, and there will be a two-plus-hour drive between them. I’ll either go home on Thursday or Friday. Depending on how long everything takes. Oh, and somehow, I’m expected to get my other work done, too. Fun times.

Work was both long and stupidly crazy yesterday. That’s all I’ll say about that.

I’m not sure what I’ll do today. I was going to go out and buy a new Keurig, but I just ordered one online, and it’ll arrive sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, it’s pour-over or French press coffee.

I may or may not go out and get some new shoes. It depends on how wrapped up I become in chores. I need to run the roll-suck and scrub the kitchen floor. The pups track in lots of dirt. I constantly sweep, and wipe up any muddy paw prints, but now the floor needs a proper scrubbing.

Alrighty. It’s time to run the dishwasher and complete the dusting, which is a difficult tasks to do when the pups are trying to attach the Swiffer duster.

I hope everyone has a pleasant day.

A little bit of both. When we first got there, it was just him. He still likes to be off leash to run around, smell things and chase sticks that I throw for him. Later, Gunter, Notzu and Tofu popped in for little dog games. A good time was had by all.

Up, caffeinating and getting ready to get sheveled for going about in public.

Last evening, I found one more sharp object that can cut my flesh. I already knew that my butcher’s scissors, kitchen knives, fussy cut scissors and Xacto knives could take a hunk out of my flesh, but last evening, I found that my teflon coated paper scissors could too. Now I’m sporting a Superman band-aid.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
