(Old) Happy Earthday in the MMP!

Marinated in sweet tea???

Oh lord am I tired. I went north today for a birthday celebration. The birthday girl turned 83! Unfortunately, one of my friends didn’t feel up to joining, but the other three of us had a good time getting together as we always do.

On my way up, I took a shot in the dark and went to my dad’s storage unit. I couldn’t believe how nice the guy was! He not only let me in even though the rent was past due, he even cut my dad’s lock off for me since I hadn’t brought the key (his friend had told me it was a combination lock). So, I spent about 45 minutes this morning sifting through the rubble - literally. I went there looking for a beautiful chest that had been my mother’s and a framed picture of erupting lava from one of his trips to Hawaii. I found the chest and OMG was it heavy!!! My mom is thinking about whether or not she wants to go with me tomorrow and sift through the piles. If not, I will not go back, I’m satisfied with my search.

After all the rummaging and celebrations I came back home and took MusicMan to work. I so wish that we could afford a second car. Even a POS that just chugs along would be good. Oh well, hopefully soon. After taking him to work I came home and napped for several hours. Now I’m getting ready to work after a snack. Unfortunately today, BMS has decided that food won’t burn my mouth, but it will make salty foods taste terrible. Hopefully it releases my taste buds back to normalcy soon.

Ok, back to work with me!

VBC didn’t hesitate to tip the red Dixie cup over when we showed her. I only tried a clear cup because I thought GG might be more likely to show that he really did have more than two brain cells to rub together.

Hubs bought a toy that had sliding things covering holes that we could put treats in. VBC took about a minute and a half to figure it out. GG once opened the slider with his nose by accident, but then couldn’t figure out how to get the treat out of the cup. Hubs caved after half an hour, he claimed he had to give GG at least one treat before VBC woke up and ate them all.

Does anyone remember us being happy about the firetrap behind us being hauled off? We had thought that the company was going to rent it out, but we were wrong. Hubs found the ad today:

https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/20515-E-Cactus-Wren-Dr_Mayer_AZ_86333_M27800-04417?from=srp-list-card

We are all Holy Cow!!! at the price, but also think it’s great because it helps our home assessment.

He really was nice! I’m glad you found the chest and hope this whole thing will be finished for you soon.

I didn’t get it either, but there I was! The day after I turned 30, I was just fine. I actually liked looking like an adult because I was in charge of a bunch of teenagers and volunteers and needed some maturity in my look. Not that it changed how I acted…

There is that part as well, but by that time I had already learned to say “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you, LOL!”

It was madness at it’s finest. I got a little emotional during menopause, but nothing like the last couple of months of my twenties.

Wow, fingers crossed that all goes well. I’m looking forward to hearing that your hubs has taken lawn care back into his hands.

Did he make himself dizzy? Dizzy cats crack me up.

Up, from naptime, having a Royal Hawaiian and watching hockey.

Morlocks are cannibalistic humanoids from future England in H.G. Wells The Time Machine. C.H.U.D.s are cannibalistic bums mutated by toxic waste. The lvie in the New York sewer(and the occasional all night diner). Here’s the list of things you might find in Michigan.

Spot will push the food tub off the table if he’s hungry and I’m at work. this is doubly impressive, because weighs more than him.

Does the tub pop open with a glorious explosion of kibble all over the place, or do you just come home to a visual indicator of his displeasure?

He heaves it hard enough to pop it open, and spill it. It is impressive

:people_hugging: They never leave go of your heart, do they?

Glad that you’re getting some relief for the knee herald.

Irked, came home, took Nelson to the dog park, then picked up a couple of pieces of chicken from Popeye’s. The guy in the drive thru was taken in by Nelson’s patented I’m a cute little doggy who likes treats look and asked if he could have a tender. My boy was in heaven! shoe, you drive thru folks who give treats make both my and my pupper’s day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So…who’s fault is this really? You should be ashamed of yourself, making that poor kittah work so hard for a morsel of fud.

:joy:

Evening all. Got a lot of swimming (almost 90 minutes worth) in and coached soccer, so it was a fairly active day. Cheeburger and Pepsi have been consumed for the evening and just relaxing for the evening before heading off to bed. Down to 72F but supposed to get into the 80’s tomorrow.

Legend, glad you did get proper treatment, after they let the thing go on much too long. I retired at 63, was planning to go to 65 but everytime I added up my retirement, it was so good that I finally asked myself “what the hell are you doing still working?”

nellie, keep this up and Ms. Dog may not want to go home..

For me, it’s my hands, usually contemplated at night before lights out in bed. Too many age spots and wrinkled bits.

Cat Glove, appendages crossed that the end of infusion works out well.

Swampy, loved BoBo’s story with the drive-thru’s. And yeah, we never do forget.

Sticky Buns, 83 is doing good. And any luck finding the erupting picture?

JtC, I know realty prices are high in lots of places, but that seem way overvalued to me.
But as a benefit to you, hope they get some nibbles.

And it’s after 9pm so need to finish up and be thinking about bedtime. Take care all.

Someday I will have another kitteh, when I can afford her. Still miss my Buffy.
I can breathe better today; the wonders of modern medicine.
Had to cancel my colon, no ride and no miralax. I am pretty sure I will be charged 250 for cancelling as thats what the paperwork says.
Heck, I didn’t even earn 200 the entire year of 2023.
Someday I will get that polyp out ( my doctor said it was there, she examined).
I have a phone interview tomorrow for a store that sells products for people who smoke.
Another food place ( I applied at lots) messaged me saying I was wanted to be hired, to come in Saturday with others to discuss training, pay, etc.
I was there in Sept. But after 2 months of once a week training as it was taking them long to open, I left. Hopefully that won’t be held against me.

It is insane, but not out of line. Our first place, a 1970’s trailer recently sold for about that same amount. Housing costs in AZ are just totally nutz, it is no wonder adult children are moving back in with their parents, it’s that or the streets.

The monthly payment on the place behind us would be around 1100 per month. I watch the real estate ads, it would be pretty hard to find a same sized rental for the same price. People are renting out rooms in their homes for 700+ a month.

So, yesterday was surplus produce and the truck was late again. I’m only bringing one lady with me now, the other one bailed when it got over 50F in the mornings. I totally understand, at our age, if we can do it, we SHOULD do it.

I told both of them that we were moving and both of them seemed to be of the opinion that it was nice while it lasted but hope that we are happy in our new home.

Our box included a whole bunch of very nice looking bell peppers, a couple of tubs of cherry tomatoes, some potatoes, a quart bottle of apple juice along with a bag of green apples, a big bag of salad mix, a couple of pounds of deli sliced ham and a box of single serving bags of flavored pretzels.

NF happily claimed the box of pretzels. I wasn’t sure she would want them, her husband always munches out on the chips I get, but this was the first time we got pretzels. NF said that if they were crunchy and salty, he wanted them. Greasy crunchy salt was the best but pretzels would do.

NF hubs is really going to miss me, NF has confided that she refuses to buy chips because he will eat the entire bag in one sitting and it is bad for him.

She made some Italian sausage soup and brought a tub to give me at Tai Chi. I do not like cooked carrots. I do like raw carrots, so it is a texture thing. I can eat them, I just don’t like to so I eat around them if I find them in my food. Most people never notice this and I don’t make it a point to tell anyone. Until now, there were probably less than five people who knew that while I think that carrots are good flavoring agents, they should be treated like bay leaves and thrown out after they have served their purpose.

When I opened the tub of soup, my first thought was “Oh dear, I don’t think we can be friends anymore.” Not only was there an abundance of carrots, she chopped them into little tiny pieces. AND I probably gave her those carrots. Once I picked out all of the carrots, it was pretty yum.

Hubs is feeling much better today. He got 6 hours of real sleep and is still gimpy but not in nearly as much pain. He went to his chiropractor this afternoon which also seemed to help but has already indicated that he has learned nothing from this. His plan includes him driving back next month to do the walk through for the closing and then driving back to supervise the movers here and then driving back to WV to be there for the movers. Me? Oh, I’m just going to sit around and eat bon-bons while watching soaps because obviously I’m incom…NM.

Does anyone wonder why I get so annoyed at him?

I enjoyed that, thanks!

Yeah, we can definitely be friends.

It makes my day to see (well-behaved) dogs of all shapes & sizes!

If your beloved dog is gonna snarl at me like Cujo, though, please leave it at home.

Do you smoke?

I … WHAT?!?

Bless his heart.

Grandma Co-worker brought strawberries to share, so that was a nice, healthy snack.
Have the rest of S.M.'s stew here at home (she really didn’t want it - apparently it was a biiiiiig batch, and she was tired of it) so I’ll maybe nibble, maybe kill it off entirely, either way imma wash her momma’s tupperware ( footnote ) … and alternative options for fud involve a grilled cheese sandwich, and/or popcorn, and/or buttered Triscuits with chili crisp.
Oh, and I brought home the rest of tonight’s lettuce in case I go insane and decide to eat a crouton & dressing delivery system salad.

( footnote ) I barely wash my own dishes. But I love and respect S.M. and her momma feeds me, so by extension, I love & respect her momma.
And her momma is watchful of her containers, so I shall wash it thoroughly, as my sign of respect & thanks.
I know for some people, “I washed your tupperware” doesn’t mean much, but coming from me, it does!

Ratties got angel hair & some flax seeds, and now post-meal are hittin’ those (water) bottles like drunks at last call.
I reeeeeally need to get them into fresh, clean bedding, though.

Speaking of things I need to do on my day off, my state tax refund hit, which would pay next month’s rent sure be nice to keep, but it doesn’t even quite cover my federal bill. (Yes, my withholdings are borked; yes, I’ve spoken up & it should be fixed for next year.)
Anyway, I need to … heavy sigh … get ahold of the I.R.S. and set up some sort of payment plan. I really don’t wanna fork over everything all at once, and frankly - math in general & budgeting in particular not being my best areas - I don’t think I can let alone donwanna.

So that’s on the agenda.

Oh, and having just renewed my lease, I’ve gotta find rental liability insurance, or else mngmt. will do it for me, and even they willingly admit in the lease terms that it’s more expensive for them to do it than for me to purchase it myself.

Oddly, though I’ve been a tenant all my non-living-with-parents life, this is the 1st time I’ve encountered this requirement, and I have zero understanding of how to go about it.

Sigh.

I need a secretary. Personal assistant? Something.
All this shit I barely - or don’t at all - know how to do, is sapping my energy from all the other shit I also gotta do.

Maybe I should start a thread. Dopers are almost as good at solicited advice as they are at unasked-for recommendations.
Title: “Tell shoe what to do.”
Except I can almost guarantee someone’s gonna sound almost ezzactly like my dad & it’ll bring out my inner petulant teenager & then I’ll just get all depressed. Again.

What happened to @Buttercup_Smith and @LSLGuy ?

Okay, having so far gone with “popcorn” I need to forage more deeply. And murder some zombies.

… oh, looky, a half-killed joint. Whatever shall I do with it?

Wow, I had some shocking news. My first year teaching in WY, I had a mischievous kid who looked 10 instead of 13 and flunked my 8th grade English class.
The next year I had him for Freshman English. He failed the first term, so I kept him after to have a little talk, and he said yes, he’d been goofing off and knew he had to buckle down, and he absolutely was going to do that.

That was the last time I saw him. Over that weekend, he got arrested for stealing explosives from a shed at a federal dam. He’d planned to blow up his house (with his extremely strict parents in it) and the school. He got sent to juvie. A few years later, he grabbed a deputy’s gun, killed him, and wounded someone else. He got sent to the state pen for two consecutive life sentences.

A few years after that, he stabbed the prison English teacher twice as well as the prisoner who tackled him to stop him. (Both survived.) He got sentenced to another consecutive 25-life sentence. He appealed the decision twice but lost. In the meantime, he got shipped to a couple of out-of-state prisons, where he amassed dozens of citations and attacked someone else.

I knew all that, but tonight I found out he killed himself in jail a few weeks ago… I didn’t recognize the grizzled guy in the photo except for his eyes. What a dark, violent, twisted, wasted life.

Sorry to go on so long. I was just thinking earlier today that he still had another 30 years to go on his sentence. I guess not.

Ms. Dog has gone home. It’s very quiet here now. I was able to wash the bed linens after she left. She’ll be back in a few weeks for a longer stay.

swampy, I thought about you while walking Ms. Dog today and thought I’d ask you if you ever had a dog, as you seem like a dog-lover. Bo-Bo sounds like a character. How did he get his nickname?

I have never smoked. My ex was an aficiondao so I am somewhat educated on their products; I would be a budtender.
But I seem to have already gotten the other job.

There is so much to unpack there. I started, and deleted, a few replies, and decided they wouldn’t help anything at this point.

I think it’s clear that things went very, very wrong way too early in his life for you to intercede. Dark, violent, and twisted indeed … but I hesitate to even think what unspoken maltreatment could mis-fold someone’s brain like that.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

You can get quotes online from all the major companies.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/43f with a predicted high of 10c/51f, and cloudy. Weather app says “This is literally the fucking perfect day to stay the fuck inside and try a new hobby. May I fucking suggest witchcraft?” Well, yes, you can, but I have other plans for my day!

nellie that’s definitely shocking news - sounds like there was a lot going on in that boy’s life that very few could have helped with. Take some comfort from the fact that you treated him well, and gave him kind words instead of a scolding.

shoe that’s quite a list you have there :frowning: My advice would be to do just that, write a list then it’s on paper (or on your phone, whatever) and out of your head. Sometimes that helps me focus when I have a seemingly overwhelming amount of stuff to do, writing it down means I don’t have it swimming around in my head and getting jumbled up with everything else in there.

WetOne hope you feel better soon, I wouldn’t have thought of KY bourbon as a cure for a dodgy salad!

doggio pleased to say that we didn’t encounter any of those things in our brief time in Michigan…just a few weird locals

JtC that looks ridiculously expensive for a tarted-up caravan

Sticky Buns well done on finding the chest in the storage unit, and well done for braving the memories it might bring with it.

Cat Glove fingers and paws crossed for you and Hubs, I hope you have yet more positive news.

Red have you considered imitating Nelson’s perfected look so you can also get free treats at the drive-through?

Herald good to hear you’re getting some pain relief for your knee at last.

Coppertone good luck with the job stuff, I have a hard time keeping up with where you’re working, not working, interviewing, and all that.

Day 3 of the strike so I am still not working. I had a good session at the gym yesterday, a 30-minute strength training class then an hour on the cross-trainer which burned over 600cals alone. Not sure about the calorie burn for the strength class but I was definitely feeling it afterwards.

Today I am having a rest day from the gym (will be back tomorrow for kettlebells and dumbbell hustle classes) so it’s domestic drudgery as the cats have decided that the carpets need to be liberally covered with bits of cat litter. Thus rollsuckage must happen. Also, the door of the catflap needs cleaning so that Shadow can survey his domain without actually having to go outside if he doesn’t want to. There are ribs marinating in the fridge so that’s tonight’s dinner taken care of, and I have a portion of chicken curry left from last night that will today’s lunch.

I bought some new people-weighing scales recently (as opposed to food-weighing ones!) so I need to unpack those and charge them up, and download the app that goes with them. They’re very fancy, apart from weight they measure a whole load of other things designed to frighten the life out of ordinary people and shock us into activity!

This morning I am sitting on the couch looking over at an empty box of no sugar added oatmeal raisin cookies that was full yesterday. And I can tell you that I HATE raisins, so I haven’t eaten any of them!

Congrats!!

Yes, I agree exactly.

I read that backwards or something, but in my head you were buying scales for other people as a gift.

MetalMouse, I never did find the lava picture and my mom and I talked it over and just decided to leave well enough alone and not go back today.

Instead, I have PT this morning and then maybe a nap or start sifting through the large amounts of junk in this house that have snuck in as a result of the two exoduses this month. The mess is driving me crazy, ok, crazier.

ETA: I forgot! I ordered a large glass jar last night to be the base structure for the urn. I am going to do the tiki god thing. I hope I am disciplined enough to get enough cleaning done before it gets here so that I don’t abandon that plan and just jump right in to playing with clay.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and mostly N.O.S. No biggie plans for the day which is fine by me as I have had to people for two days in a row. Thus high sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage and day drinkin’ shall rule the day. Even sup will be a slothful activity as there are various leftovers in da fridge that need to get et up.

StickyBuns glad the guy was so nice and let you into the storage unit.

JtC YIKES on the price, but it looks nice. Get a big box of bonbons and tell hubs you intend to loll on the sofa whilst munchin’ ‘em and watchin’ soaps on your ipad. Tell him the movers can lift you and the sofa in the back of the movin’ van for the ride to WVA and then unload the sofa and you into the livin’ room where you shall continue to loll.

Cat_Glove hope all goes well and hubs can stop the infusions for good.

red yay for Nelson and his chikin tender! It would be hard to resist that cute little face!

doggio it really is sad that Spot has such an unreliable hooman servant.

Coppertone shall we cross appropriate/inappropriate appendages about the job?

shoe you are nice to return the container all nice and clean. You must kill the remainder of that joint. No sense in it languishin’ in pain in a half killed state.

Nellie sorry to hear about your former student. It’s just a sad story all around. BoBo came about cause I’d call him my little boy and eventually it got shortened to BoBo.

BooFae have fun bein’ all domesticated today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

How he did this, I have no idea. Buddy apparently managed to stuff himself into a drawer that I would have assumed to be smaller than he is (17" long x 8.5" wide x 4" high internal dimensions for the drawer), then I couldn’t find him for almost 12 hours (why he didn’t have anything to say about the situation also baffles me). When I finally managed to figure out where he was and release him, he ran straight for the food dishes, followed by a rush trip to the box.
