(Old) Happy Hanuholichristkwanzaavus- A Holiday(s) Week MMP

Happy Sunday y’all!

That’s why I gave up, and because an unsuccessful writer

Pretty much.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with no predicted change, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Just so we’re fucking clear, those clouds are not your fucking friends.”

Sticky Buns I hope MusicMan is over the lurgy soon, and the lung thing turns out to be nothing to worry about.

JtC glad to hear hubs got his foot seen very quickly and has the right meds for it. And medicinal margaritas too!

As would most other people’s response! I hope putting things back where they were before wasn’t too much of a chore.

Yesterday was fun, we went to The Welly for a pint of Piffle Snonker, then went to the pretentious restaurant for food. I had Thai sweet potato and spinach curry, followed by traditional Christmas pudding. Then we got the train back to our town and went to The Posada, on to The Lych Gate and finishing up at the Giffard. We weren’t planning to go to the Giff, but it sort of happened

We left around 2am, and walked up the street in search of a cab home. The first guy said he was waiting for someone (and offered us a fixed fare first, always a bad sign). We hopped into the cab behind him, he asked why we didn’t take the one in front so we told him, he huffed about the fixed fare thing and then said “X Street, isn’t it?”….and off we went. Had a pleasant chat with him on the way, he’s taken us home many times, and gave him a generous tip. Cup of tea and then off to bed after giving the cats some treats.

I have no plans at all for today, ‘im indoors is making tacos for dinner tonight so I do not have anything I actually need to do. Might sit on the floor up here and see if I can persuade Muffin to play with a feathery thing on a string, instead of biting me.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 29°F and mostly cloudy outside. The forecast calls for a mixture of clouds and sun, with a daytime high of 40°F.

JtC, I’m happy to hear that your husband got seen by a doc and it wasn’t a struggle.

Lily, that’s some progress!

I only got a couple of hours of sleep last night, and was up until 2:00 a.m. or so watching movies. The pups woke me at 5:15 to let me know it was breakfast time, and they promptly headed back upstairs to sprawl out on the guest bed with my son. They lurves their boy, yes they do.

I foresee a nap later today, and not much else.

You all take care.

Morning all. Went to get my Sunday NY Times, but both places I stopped were missing the magazine (where the puzzles are) and so I passed (have plenty of back issues to finish reading) and came on home. Clouds abound but the temperature is 64F heading to 70F, but by tomorrow the high will barely reach 40F, so a definite cold drop. Feel well enough to go out to dinner today (Metro Diner and their meatloaf, yum!) and we’ll see about the rest of the day.

FCM, will try to remember he is Tobias. ANd enjoy (?) the next couple of days.

Lily, happy editing. Be sure to double-check the galley print before publishing, I can still spot errors in some of the books I read.

flyboy, from the sounds of it you won’t miss dealing with Company A too much…and now it is someone else’s problem.

Happy presiding, Swampy

Sticky Buns, doubt they are open on Sunday, but go get’em!

Someone who knows how to do the holiday season right!!

boo fae, sounds like you made a good call on the cab.

taters, a day of sloth is a good thing. Enjoy nappage.

And onward into Sunday. Have a good one all.

I ran across a couple of errors in the latest trashy novel - I guess e-books aren’t as error-free and one might expect. Or does one expect it? It was a bit confusing when one character’s name came up where it obviously meant another.

The spawn are here with walkie talkies and a karaoke machine. Oh goodie. I need to lock them in the basement and don earplugs!!!

If something isn’t done about the health insurance stuff, Daughter and SIL’s premium will jump over $700/month. If they don’t have insurance, his meds cost around $1K/month, which means he doesn’t get them which means he ends up in the ER… OK, no more. Dammit.

I need to chill.

I don’t mind their files. I have my processes, and they’re no problem. But it sounds like they’re going to be a problem for the Tampa team.

I can’t even with the weather. It is foggy and raining and 48 degrees. Rain all day. The cyclone whatever will whoosh through sometime and the temps will drop 25 degrees. Ariel is in her stall for the day. I will probably stay home and read. I started The Widow yesterday, Grisham’s latest, and am hooked. I either love or hate his books and this one I love.

Had a really lazy start to the day. Slobbed my way out the house about 2pm, to go drive to the shop for fresh food, and a few of the better leftover Christmas nibbles, got to the car and went ‘Huh? Why’s the tarp in the middle of the driveway? And my coat? Oh, and the car manual is on the seat, not where I left it’…

Yeah, someone’s been through the car last night. It would have been last night, cos I would have had to step over the coat on the way home yesterday evening, and even as tired as I was I would have noticed. It doesn’t look like they took anything except my MP3 player. Maybe some of the car emergency kit has gone as well, I can’t remember exactly what was in there. I don’t leave anything valuable in there (had a momentary panic that I’d left the ‘registered keeper’ document in there but I hadn’t). No damage apart from a stink of cigarettes. Not sure if I left it unlocked or if they had one of the transponder key reader thingies- if the latter, maybe I should get one because I can’t get the damn transponder key to work most of the time…

The really annoying thing is that I have actually got a security camera and shiny new camera doorbell- but they’re still in the box, inside, as they only got delivered the afternoon of the 23rd and I didn’t have time to put 'em up before I left. The new cameras will have to go up tomorrow, as it’s getting dark already.

Could have been worse.

I know you care about the work, but is it time just to start saying to Tampa or whoever, “Yes, my job is pretty detailed and takes a lot of individual work-arounds. I hope it goes well”?

Good news/bad news.
Good news, Ms Peach seems to like her new sweatshirt and dog toy box.

Bad news, my oven’s igniter appears dead. The broiler burner lights up and works, but the lower bake element doesn’t. The intertubes claim it’s an easy fix, but I need the part, and it is not available locally. It’ll get here on firday from the jungle. At least the burners still work.

I’ve been telling La Jefa and El Jefe that for years. Oh, well.

:man_shrugging:

Snowing like mad here in the Cities, with a forecast of up to seven inches or more. What fun! They’re good about plowing major roads here in MN, but the neighborhoods will be a mess for awhile. I’m one of those weirdos who likes to drive in snow, so it doesn’t bother me. I’m happy that management took my suggestion of buying a snowblower for the walks and areas that the contracted plow guy can’t get to.

My point being, at what point will you just say, “Yeah” rather than fixing it?

My sister has the flu so she won’t be visiting on Tues. She told me to go ahead and give the kids their gifts, and such odd gifts they are. OK, the cookies aren’t odd. But the cardboard holders full of state quarters? Not sure what she expects the kids to do with them - save them till they’re worth more? If ever?

She gave Roxy earrings. But Roxy’s ears aren’t pierced. And she gave Tobias a voice-activated robot that I couldn’t figure out - mainly because the print on the instructions is sooooo teensy!! But the kids seem to have figured it out somewhat. With luck, their dad will be able to decipher the instructions.

I made a video of them opening the gifts and sent it to my sister. Hope it doesn’t make her seasick - there was a lot of jostling because I’m a sucky photographer.

It started out at 40 degrees, rained a bit. Its to go up to 58 by midnight, then drop to 20s with high winds. Fun.

Huh, actually had the police come round to take a statement and apologise that they couldn’t do any forensics as I’d driven the car and moved everything. I wouldn’t have driven the car or had 3 caipirinhas this evening (hey, the bottle was nearly empty and I needed space in the drinks cabinet) if I’d thought they’d take it that seriously… They never did in Bristol.

Cold front is blasting through here at the moment - yesterday was a ridiculously warm 82F/28C and we’ll drop down to 26F/-3C tonight. Very rude Mother Nature, very rude. I’ve been dog sitting at my sister’s house this weekend so glad to be done with that and back in my own house this afternoon. They’re sweet dogs but they all think they’re lap dogs, and the smallest one is 75 pounds!

JtC glad you guys caught that early! Cellulitis can be nasty stuff.

Thanks Cookie that sounds absolutely delicious!! I’m saving that one.

boo fae ignorant question - why is a fixed fare on a taxi considered a bad thing?

nut that stinks about the car. At least they didn’t break a window or make off with anything important.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. That’s all of the commentary I’ll give in MPSIMS.

Alcohol during pregnancy can be a very good thing, you know.

Finally got dressed and went outside this morning first time since Tuesday, I think. Immediate goal was to shovel the porch and stairs, and get started on the path to the driveway, but I took the yardstick with me – approximately 4.5 inches on the porch. Have to go to the base pharmacy tomorrow to pick up a couple of prescriptions, so we’ll definitely have to finish the driveway first.
