(Old) Happy Memorial Day or Just Happy Moanday in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! We napped. We day drank. We ate. I guess that’s a Memorial Day celebration. Now we wait for the rain/tstorms/apocalypse to commence.

After we et, the biiiiiig trash can was hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. We also hauled the three metal barstools from under the gazebo down to the road hopin’ someone would stop and pick ‘em up. The barstools (barstool/chairs as they have backs and arms) have stood us good for twenty-three years, but had gotten kinda beat up lookin’ so we got new ones. Not an hour after we put 'em out, the front doorbell rang (no one but delivery folk ever go to that door) and I answered the door. A guy said he’d gotten two of the chairs in the trunk of his car and would come back for the other one as soon as he unloaded 'em at his house. He rang the bell to ask if we’d mind if he moved the other chair back from the road so no one else would get it before he got back. Of course that was fine. Gave both of us a giggle. I guess two bears trash is another man’s treasure!

Sticky_Buns sorry about your aunt and your current woes.

Coppertone rain loves to do that. It’s how rain entertains itself.

Legend here’s hopin’ for a less hectic week.

Die I made cinnamon rolls once. Good but a whole lotta trouble! I have since decided the bakery can do that for me.

fachverwitt my brain will not let me remember your Mumper name. Yay for gettin’ moved in. Change is hard. I had da cave built and still wish I had done some things differently. I think we humans are incapable of bein’ completely happy with our decisions. Glad y’all survived the storms with house intact.

Taters glad the conference went well, you survived, and somewhat enjoyed it all.

shoe way to bougie up dollah sto’ foodstuffs! Yay for makin’ headway on the todos.

Cat_Glove glad y’all enjoyed the parade.

red good for your dad. I watch Loony Toons on my ipad. I giggle now just as much as I did as a cub when I watch.

I owe you a giant “thank you,” my anonymous friend, for posting this. It made my brain go, “Hey, waiiiiit a minnit …” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

My bin wasn’t very full, so I thought nothing of its weight when I rolled it back up to the house as usual this morning.

Today.

On a federal dang holiday.

Went back out a few minutes ago and yep, sure 'nuff, still has trash. Including a now-slightly-damp :poop: box, which I’d rather not have hanging around for another week, thankyouverymuch.

Rolled it back out to the curb like a dummy.

… I got ONE THING ACCOMPLISHED this morning, and this is the thanks I get.

Called my dad instead, to check up on him, since Mom’s whooping it up (not really, but they seem to be having a nice time) with a bunch of other senior ladies out of town for a few days.

Good for her, I say.

Dad’s his usual PITA self, I’m somewhat happy to report.

Treated myself to Texas Roadhouse to-go, and 1a.) I’z stahffed, and 2b.) I smelled enough grilling hot dawgz on the way back - cool breeze, windows down - that now I think I may hafta bestir myself to { sigh } re-pants myself and obtain Lil’ Smokies & Puff pastry, so I can oven-bake a reasonable approximation at two in da mornin’ this week, since { looks at upcoming schedule } oh, my, Grumpy Oven Master is on vacation this whole week, and we’re hittin’ that summer peak.

ETA:

Sometimes, technology can bring joy.

Heh. I watch Looney Toons (and Tom and Jerry, and Disney, and Terry Toons) at 2 or 3 in the morning when I can’t sleep. It’s childhood comfort viewing and often lulls me back to sleep.

You wouldn’t think that a cat and mouse trying to violently murder each other would be soothing, but it is.

Made bacon cheeseburgers with fries, corn(on the cob!) and an Old Fashioned for dinner.< Freedoms internally >

That always makes me sad.

There’s a couple I’ve seen so may times that I feel bad when I don’t help them load up after the set.

I prefer Looney Tunes, specifically Acme Anvils.

You got your steps in. Take the win.

T-bones on the barbie, and corn-onna-cobb for dinner tonight. The steaks were nice and tender, and nice and rare. We each et about half of our steaks.

Now if only the cabinet could be moved back to the bathroom, I could put stuff in the dishwasher.

Just finished my salad, with thousand island dressing.
One good thing about today- KillTony is on soon.

What’s for dinner tomorrow? Wifey’s choice. We have leftover T-bones, leftover BBQ chicken, leftover pizza, leftover taco meat for burritos, and deli roast beast and cheeses.

Remember that neighbour for whose house I turned the water off when his pipes froze? He gave me a bottle of Costco Margarita Wine (he works there). It’s 12.5% alcohol, but it needs tequila to cut down the sweetness. I need to pick up some tequila when I go to TJ’s tomorrow. Mrs. L.A. informs me she has two half-kilo bars of dark chocolate left, so I don’t need to pick up any until next week. I do have to break one up tonight, though.

Sounds like everyone had a nice holiday and dinner. I managed to buy fuel, hit the hardware store(s), got buffalo chicken salad lunch at a local sports bar / tiki bar joint of which I ate half, did housewares returns and buys, came home, and …

The teeny 2" x 2" tidbit I’d been waiting for several days was delivered, which unleashed about 5 hours of downstream work and … It’s Done! No more boxes o’ crap anywhere, much less everywhere as was the case a couple weeks ago. I have a place for everything and everything is now in its place. All the trash and recycling is out. Organization, not chaos, reigns supreme.

Celebratory dinner was the other half of my lunch salad + buff chix nuggets, and the last of the churros w dipping sauces I got at last Taco Tuesday. Those are something I absolutely positively should not eat, but it’s been years since my previous last churro and they just sounded soo-oo-ooo good after Tuesday’s tacos & 'rita’s. At least I didn’t eat them all at one sitting at the taco joint. And in an amazing coincience, tomorrow is … Tuesday again. Who knew?!

I’m balconatin’ right now and enjoying a G&T in the warm tropical breeze, while bedtime quickly approacheth. And such was today.

Tomorrow one bit of art will be delivered in the early afternoon, but its special hangers are already on the wall, so the remaining work should (famous last words ) simply be unbox it and lift it into position. I can even have the delivery dudes do the unbox and take the empty box away with them so I don’t have to schlepp that downstairs.

There will be pix for y’all, and soon.

Otherwise I’m suddenly staring into the abyss of nothing to do and all day to do it in. Tue-Thu and up to mid afternoon Fri are simply a wall of nothingness. Then BB shows up to relieve my boredom and stress and other … ahh … issues for ~72 hours. Maybe this time we’ll get out of bed more than twice. But I sure hope not. :rabbit: :rabbit2:.

Manaña folks!

We were in our very last parade today. We got on his bike and joined the Leathernecks MC at the VA hospital and rode the parade and then had lunch with the guys. I will truly miss that part of our lives, but it was time to move on.

The ongoing horse debate happened (should horses go in front of the parade so they can poop on the road but also get taken somewhere away from the crowds as soon as possible, or should they be behind the non-pooping on the road participants even if a bunch of bikes doing burnouts would upset them) and many good bye hugs happened.

When we got home Hubs cleared out the fermentation room and then moved all of the packed boxes in there. I had forgotten how big that room was, it was so messy that most of the floor was hidden. (His room, his choice, I just usually kept the door closed.)

The diner has finally reopened and we went there for dinner and planning/reassurance session. Now he’s stressing about all of the closing documents being signed and all of the money getting to the right place on time.

I happen to know that everyone involved in the process wants it to be completed on time. I also know that people buy homes out of their state on a regular basis. We are dealing with professionals who don’t get paid until the transaction is completed which means they are motivated to do their jobs as promised.

All will be well.

But I’m doing it with an oversized cat that can’t fly across the country!

I’m glad you have survived your move. I’m counting days now.

May I learn details of this 2-inch-by-2-inch bit of magic, which if I understand seems to come into one’s home, wave fairy wands, and then simply bring peace to one’s life?

I’d like … three, please.

Still no power. Utility website says 11pm estimated restoration. It’s almost 10.

But we managed to make ourselves a nice holiday. No gatherings because we weren’t really equipped to put ourselves together for socializing, but we went to the movies to see Back to the Future, which was fun and nostalgic. Spent some time at a sandwich shop to charge our phones. Now sitting in lantern light, probably going to read for a bit. The windows are open which will hopefully help it cool off; currently too warm to sleep.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Hopefully the power company gets it done on schedule.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/56f with a predicted high of 18c/64f, and rain showers. Weather app says “It’s fucking raining and Mother Nature gives no fucks.” True enough, it was raining when I ventured outside earlier.

That is a lot to be dealing with on the same day, I hope the good part will help dull the sad part for you.

You’ve got far too much drama there, I hope you can get some peace from it soon. Sorry to hear about your aunt, it’s sad even if you’re not that close.

That sounds like an excellent plan! Now I want cinnamon rolls…

I’m sure that’s something almost everyone goes through, it’s a major purchase and a huge upheaval in your life. Once you’ve settled, got the bits fixed that need fixing, got new furniture and rearranged stuff, you’ll wonder why you ever doubted yourself.

Yes, and also Armistice Day. The terms are interchangeable here - Armistice Day is 11th November, whereas Remembrance Day is the closest Sunday to it. This year it’s the 10th November

True, and they’ve been going since 2009 so they’ve had a pretty good run! They have put a lot of effort into building a community around their music too, I’ve made a lot of gig friends through that

Hurrah! I hope you got the recognition you deserve for all the work you put into it, and also hope you get a bit of down time afterwards to recover.

Working from home today so all I’ve done so far is haul the biiiiiig recycling bin to the kerb for today’s collection. It was raining when I went out, and I expect it will be raining when I go out to retrieve the bin too. Nothing exciting in my irk day, got a minion meeting but it’ll be a short one as we are all doing the same thing (chasing up missing marking and barrelling towards Exam Boards at an alarming rate) so it’s really just to catch up with the state of play.

We went grocery shopping yesterday instead of today because we’re out tonight so dinner will be leftover chilli. 'im indoors is going to the gym today and wants to get Indian food for lunch from the nice food truck in town. I’m happy with that, although it does mean my lunch arrives very late, but I have no afternoon meetings so it doesn’t really matter what time I take a break. Such is life, right?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. I am positively giddy over the prospect. I also foresee some quality cee-mint pond time which will encompass nappage and day drinkin’. Sup shall be grilled poke chops with leftover slaw, baked beans, and corn from yestiddy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

All the threats of storms and tornadoes were apparently just idle threats for our little neighborhood. No rain, and not even much wind past mid-afternoon. And since it didn’t rain, I’ll be doing ditch mowage in a little while.

Because yesterday was a holiday, MIL’s nurse will be coming today for her weekly once-over. FCD is staying home to talk to her, so I can attend to the aforementioned mowage.

I’m also hoping I can find some semi-rotted mulched leaves in the yard to spread in my veggie patch. I’m pretty sure I know where to find some behind FCD’s shop - there’s a pile where I dumped them for the last 2-3 years. So there’s some sweaty fun ahead!

And the month winds down. Happy Tuesday!!

We have a local oldies band, guys mostly in their sixties, that have been playing since high school. Some of the personnel has changed due to musicians passing away. BBBoo’s cousin plays keyboards for them, and my nephew Tommy( the youngest player in his thirties) plays lead.

Good morning everyone. Been gone a while, but I guess the prodigal MMP-er returneth.

Sorry to be out of the loop, but best wishes, hugs, luck, etc. for those who need it. Special mention for {{sticky}}, {{Cookie}}, and skimming the last few weeks {{{Real Fish}}}. Any deserving mumpers not mentioned are my error, not intentionally skipped.

Am I the only one who heard a British voice: “Perhaps he was dictating?”

As to catching up on the drama of Casa Pullin… [deep breath]
A short summary would be that we’ve scaled and summitted the peak of Mount Stresssmore in the last few weeks, and are now safely on the other side. Admittedly a lot of this is first-world stuff, but it still reached cumulative overload at some points.

In the last 2 weeks we’ve:

  • Helped youngest pack and prep for summer in Europe, including shipping lots of lab equipment (working on dissertation) and sending various “wires” to labs/universities etc. to pay for it all. And one 4 digit money wire went astray and ended up on the wrong account, who’s owner wasn’t keen on giving it back.
  • Youngest moved home during this time, with her dog. Upon meeting Lucy, both dogs decided they hated each other, with the accompanying yelps, fur flying and upended furniture. We had to build corrals to physically separate them.
  • Youngest also brought new SO, who we’d never met. So this period also had the worry of incorporating a stranger into the household. FTR: He was gracious and polite, and we hope he’s “the one”. My conclusion was he was “pretty cool”. Mizpullin’s assessment was “adorable”.
  • But… said SO had serious accident immediately prior and we had to essentially re-arrange for a version of ADA compliance. Happy to do it, but it was more stuff piled on top of too many things. Note: recovery is well underway and docs say all will heal.
  • I had decided weeks ago to sell my boat - too much work, not enough fun, and balance problems following the wreck-longCovid-eyeproblems last year made using it dangerous.
  • And of course, the only serious prospective buyers chose this period to travel here for tours/sea-trials/inspections/etc. Which caused a lot of workload as I scheduled everything from pro-cleaners to haul outs and a full afternoon out on the water for them. Also a frantic running-about to get the big trailer ready and out of storage.
  • And after everyone was here and the weather got nice and hot, at the absolute peak of everything — [drum roll] our air conditioner quit.
  • And, (I’m barely half through – come back here!), the various docs searching for the causes of the balance/dizziness/etc. chose this period to schedule no less than 5 MRIs/Dopplers/Ultra-sounds/XRays/labs.
  • And to add to it all, criminals decided to do some crime-ing nearby, and neighbors reported (with video) one car broken into, another car stolen outright, one seriously creepy dude peering in lots of windows at night (on video) and the cherry on top - our next door neighbor’s house was broken into. At night. Crooks only entered garage/storage and not the people-part of the house, but still worrisome. Police contacted us multiple times seeking video from our security cams, but they were pointed inward and caught nothing.
  • And to top it off, mizPullin took the dogs out for their nightly ablutions and found herself face-to-face with a coyote in the backyard. Luckily, it decided two snarling dogs and a full-sized human were a little much, and fled over the fence.

But now, it’s all over. Youngest is safely ensconced in her room/labs overseas. All equipment arrived OK. All the money wires got sorted out and corrected. New SO, while a delightful guest, has gone back home and is recovering well. The dogs re-evaluated their relationship and are now besties. The boat is sold, and safely transferred to its new home a few hundred miles away. The A/C is fixed. My docs are still searching for causes, but have ruled out all the scary possibilities. The criminals seem to have taken a breather, and the scary next-door break-in is looking more and more like an “inside job”. Crooks went to one precise area, and made off with objects they almost certainly knew were there. Still not great news, but less worry for us. And we’ve encountered no anvils or Acme products in the backyard.

So, now there’s a Zen-like calm in our house, and I’m really enjoying a quiet cuppa coffee and sleeping dogs.

Hope everyone’s week goes well too.

In my cousin’s case, ‘since high school’ would have been more than fifty years ago. Still rockin’ after all these years.

My dentist of 36 years still does local gigs with his rock band, which started when all the members were in dental school 40 years ago. The band name? Raw Nerve.

Good 2sday morning all. Nice and toasty here in N. Ali-bama, due to get to 87F and the rain has fled to other parts of the planet for now. Major duty today is my 1pm appointment to be de-stitched, will be glad to finally get rid of the bandages on my side. Other than that pretty slothful day should be in the works. Tomorrrow will be mowage so have that to look forward too…

Yankers, that is a pile-up in anybody’s world, glad you kept your sanity and things have worked out pretty well for you. Hope the week stays quiet and you can visit us more often.

swampy, nice story about the barstools, hope the guy enjoys them.

shoe, was at Texas Roadhouse this past weekend, it’s probably my favorite of the moderate-priced steakhouses (Longhorn is good, Outback sucks, IMHO).

Pilot, glad your place is organized to your satisfaction; now how long does it stay that way?

JtC, nice story on the parade and horse positioning argument (I vote for the end of the parade).

verwirrt, hope the power is back on.

FCM, happy mulching!

Hippie, thanks for the early morning music; Pilot should playing that for BB this weekend…

BBBoo, that’s a perfect name!

OK, onward into the day. Have a good one all.
