I adore mine too (after all, it brings me my cherished magic imaginary internetz Mumper friends). What I will do when it dies the predictable death of all thing tech is the stuff of frequent nightmares.
Keeping my brother though~he’s the one who gave me my iPad in the first place.
Finally, I can see it too. happy, happy doperversary, flyboy. Let me add my “so glad you’re here!” to all the rest.
{{{CatGlove and CatGloveHubby}}} Crossing appendages that all goes well.
Today is hubby’s birthday so we took a long train ride with the goal of Five Guys and KrispyKreme.
We enjoyed the food at Five Guys and wandered over to the KrispyKreme store, which has only been open since July. It’s closed. Until Monday. Nothing on their web page or their Facebook account.
We still would have gone for the Five Guys. But if I had known that KrispyKreme was closed, I would have gotten my own milkshake.
At least the weather was better than expected - lots of gorgeous blue sky with snow-capped mountains in the distance.
We went to Norway House in Minneapolis to see the gingerbread house displays. Pretty cool, and not a ton of [del]disease vectors[/del] kids to deal with. Bought gingerbread cookies, of course.
Hmmm. . .guess I don’t know how to do strike-over with this version of SDMB.
Use ~~disease vectors~~ to produce disease vectors. The alternative is [s]disease vectors[/s] to produce disease vectors. The “s” is short for “strikethrough” or “strikeover”.
Yet another way to produce disease vectors is to make whoopee then wait 2 years until they start day care.
Survived my medical appt and lunch, now comes packing for 6 long days.
Home again. We got the headboard and the mirror installed, and finally got both curtains up. Someone screwed up the measurement on the first one we put up, so it looks different. Luckily, the two windows are in different rooms and since we used white rods, it’s not too very noticeable. What is noticeable, however, is that one panel isn’t square along the hem - it slopes up a tad. Nothing like taking pride in one’s work.
By the time the second curtain went up and I did a quick rollsuck to get the bits up, we both decided tomorrow is soon enough to hang pictures. Or next week. Whatever - she won’t be home till mid-Feb.
SIL asked if I’d get the kids tomorrow afternoon - no biggie - I need to be at Roxy’s bus stop at 4, then we’ll head over to get Tobias. Not sure how late Daughter will be - I’ll check with her later today.
She’s just a tad frazzled. Her math teacher quit - she didn’t want to, but because of her husband’s job situation changing, she needed more money. Daughter knew it was coming, but she’d hoped for another month. Bottom line, the headmistress is teaching math. Yeah, she’s thrilled. BUT the teacher who left may have found her own replacement who may start Moanday, so that’s nice.
Anyway, I think I’m done till it’s time to make supper. Chillage on tap.
Have done some exercising to fill the time, may go back for a second round this evening after dinner. Otherwise nothing much happening.
Wheelie, think Houston will be nicer that an little town in Virginny, hope it works out well.
wet one, enjoy your time with family. Will you be on the coast (Redneck Riviera?).
red, hope your rent situation gets straightened out. The hotel told me it would be a few days before my refund showed up, it’s not on my credit card today, if still not there in a week another call will be made.
Dicey, I think having both Five Guys and Krispy Kreme would be a serious overdose of both calories and goodness, so maybe just as well KK was closed.
FCM, ah, the joys of being the boss. Hope daughter gets a quick math solution.
OK, just checked the water and about 3 gallons used without me using a drop. Will leave it on for another hour, my ice cube maker needs to replenish my supply. And the sun is out! (still only 43F, however). Take care.
are you sure you were in the navy becuase ive heard well things …
exchange salsa for the dressing and add a skillet full of taco meat and you have taco salad …
OK my parents had rules about partying as teenagers theyt didnt care if we smoked or drank aslong as :
1 we did it at home and adults were nearby no fighting and barfing
in the 7th grade, i had friends over for the night and after video games and pizza we decided to get something mature to drink … but all we had was a bunch of change so we went to the “Hood Rat” liquor store and saw one of the semi-homeless people we knew and he offered to ge tus something …
Well, he came out with a jug of fruit punch stuff and 3 bottles of t-bird he kept one and said that should be good…he said to mix it with the punch …yeah let’s just say we learned the hard way there aint nothing good in t-bird … some of us were soo sick …
A place I’d applied and interviewed last week called and said to come in for training Tuesday. Its not many hours, maybe 15 a week. I will be working with another aide in taking care of only 9 patients in a small home, not nursing but a small place. I certainly have experience thanks to my ex!
I can wear yoga pants, yay!
I feel so terribly behind - but I am glad there were no adults fighting and barfing, shady.
I found a new podcast I absolutely love called My Dad Wrote a Porno. I think it’s relatively old, but this group of a couple guys and a girl read aloud one of the podcaster’s dad’s erotic novels and comment on it. I cackled all the way home from work today. I’m a little afraid to listen to it when I’m running because I don’t want to fall over. Maybe that’ll be my challenge this afternoon - how to run and laugh at the same time without falling down and hurting myself. I might need to use a treadmill to start.
This week has been dull personally and kind of stupid work-wise. Which is par for the course lately. Oh well - things can always, always be worse.
Literally my worst nightmare, my kid digging up my romance novels and making fun of the sex scenes. But yeah it’s a funny premise. Poor guy. I presume they had his permission.
I’m sorry this will probably be long. I need to vent, and it’s not a mini-rant. The conversation with the manager was upsetting. The increased rent does NOT include water, sewer, and trash. I went in with all kinds of data: how much utility rates increased 2023-2024 (3.45%), average rent increase in my city (1.51%), but of course, none of that matters. They claim the old owners ran this place at a deficit, and that some people had not had ANY rent increases in 9 years (This place isn’t quite 8 years old, so ???) My rent increased $100/month every year that I’ve lived here. I told her that with the rent increase, in less than 8 years, my rent has gone up 40%.
And WST is going up by a huge chunk, too–she thought maybe 40%. She said I could find out how much by calling the company that will handle that for them. I did that, and the company says I won’t know until I get the first bill. Surprise!
I’m not going to be homeless or anything, and I can afford to live here another year, but now I’m so upset, I don’t think I want to. I love my apartment and the view of the woods from my little balcony, but the rent is ridiculous. Oh, and they’re charging for use of common areas, too, which was included in the rent. I don’t use any of the common areas.
There’s always been a waiting list to get into this place. Now there’s no waiting list, and they’re “desperate” to get more tenants because so many people are moving out. They’re offering $750 if you can get anyone to sigh a lease. I told her, “I don’t know anyone who wants to live here. Everyone I used to know here has moved out to cheaper places.”
In other upsetting news, my sister-in-law is having emergency eye surgery as I type this. She’s the one who had eye surgery about 6 weeks ago. She never fully regained her sight (It was to replace the fluid inside her eye because she had many floaters.). They said it was a corneal ulcer and treated that. Now this.
I’m sorry so many rough things are happening right now. We’ve dealt with the same kind of housing rises here. Nothing seems to stay affordable anymore. I’m glad that you don’t have to worry right now about it but I’m hoping that you’ll find something more suitable. And I’ll be keeping my good thoughts winging your way for your sister.
Just checked 10-day forecast onThe Weather Channel. They’re predicting snow starting on the 11th and continuing through the 15th, turning to a rain/snow mix.
After the last few Winters, I was hoping for a snow-free year.
What terrible news, I am so very sorry for both issues. I hope your sister’s surgery goes well and that she recovers quickly.
I know you love your place, but maybe this is all for the best. Those stairs didn’t help your knee recovery and can’t be much fun when its snowy and icy.
