(Old) Happy New Year 2024 MMP

@nelliebly~for you {{{{{{ nellie }}}}}} and your sister {{{{{{nellie’s sister}}}}}}.

Sheesh, what a time you’re having. Sending strong, uppity old lady karma to you. Deploy as necessary-I’ll stand your bail.

metal mouse I’ll be in Gulf Shores.

Happy doperversary flyboy!

Happy birthday MrDicey!

wheelie, you will find plenty to do in your off hours in Houston. While you’re there, wave to my Sis on the SE side.

{{{nellie}}} I know what you mean about the rent increases, as mine has gone up $50 a month every time I sign a new lease. In addition, they raise the WTS ,more than the town does. Plus, apparently, they don’t pay their staff well enough to give a crap about their jobs. I hope that your sister’s eye surgery improves things.

I messed around online, watched a couple of documentaries on Tubi, napped and generally slothed all day. I did manage to make my menu plan, grocery list and order it from Kroger to pick up tomorrow. I’ll get my gas tank filled while I’m there.

Oh, yes, they did! That’s a nightmare of mine as well. Even my husband doesn’t know my pen name!

I live in manufactured home community that was originally owned/managed by my husband’s family, so we have the inside scoop on what’s going on here. They ended up selling to a national chain, and my FIL warned us the new company intended to jack up the lot rent every year. So they have. It’s not hurting us yet, but it’s hurting a lot of people, and when they complained, the management told them it’s based on “market rates.” Bullshit. They bought up all the properties near here, they set the market rate. It was 100% intentional, that was their business plan going in. My FIL is always warning us we need to sell this place and buy a house, but as I explained upthread, it’s complicated.

So… I can relate, sadly. I’m sorry about your sister. I hope your days improve soon.

I’m so very sorry for all you’re going through. I wish I could hug you!

No matter what you are doing, it always feels so good when you think you are finally getting the hang of it. Keep practicing and someday you might be as good as Ginger Rogers! Or I guess you could settle for being as good as the guy she always danced with, he wasn’t bad either.

There are times when I’d rather not go, but knowing that other people are depending on me is what gets out the door. I dropped the library’s box off this morning (well…and unloaded so I could keep the box for next surplus day) and had to stop on my way home from town because I got a notice that a book was in. Half of the stuff I pulled out of our pantry (all of the condiments, canned tuna and travel sets of filled salt and pepper shakers) was already gone. This makes me happy.

I’m going to start collecting hotel toiletries to donate, you can buy salt with food stamps, you can’t buy soap.

If not for the government BS, I would still be a food stamp worker. I honestly did enjoy my main job, it was the nit-picky bullshit that made me walk out one day.

Hey, Pilot, you will be staying in hotels as a hobby now. I’d happily pay postage if you could start collecting the toiletries to send to me. Or maybe donate them to a homeless shelter in FL, I’m sure they need them there as well.

I go back and forth between D-IV and D-Immortal depending on when they drop new content. I get really bored grinding and I hate PVP so when I’m out of new content, I play M.U.L.E. How’s that for mindless, LOL!!!

Ain’t nothing wrong with fish for breakfast!

You guys are making me think I should shut off my child filters for a while. I was a floozy, but I wasn’t into kinks and I’m starting to feel very left out and vanilla.

My mother used to leash us to a porch post during heavy fog.

Oh, that just sucks. Can you hem both panels to match? Or put something in front of the wonky one? That would trigger my CDO so much that I would stay up at night fussing about it.

Hurray for a job. Hopefully the small number of hours will increase once you’ve shown them how much they need you.

I worry so much about the younger folks who want to leave the nest but can’t afford to rent a place of their own. My BFF has three grown daughters, two of who got forced out of their apartments because the owners wanted to move family in and the third had to move to a pretty bad neighborhood in Phx because that was the only way they could afford to buy. It’s just crazy.

Apollo 13 (1995) was released 25 years after the mission.

It’s been 28½ years since the movie was released.

I think I don’t like you very much right now.

Evening all. Made a second visit to the gym to get me up to 2,500 cycling calories burned this week, which is a new record for me. Garbage can is out for tomorrow and surprisingly I didn’t require nappage today, but will be turning in early anyway.

flyboy, like JtC that’s a piece of information I could have happily lived without… Hope the snow gets sidetracked this weekend.

{{{{nellie}}}}. Hope sister is doing well. As for the price hikes, I would think a good resolution for this year is looking for another place that meets your needs/location at a better price.

shady, got through my high school years sober, do remember sampling Mad Dog 20/20 in College and…while I did not get sick, it did keep me a confirmed beer drinker.

Coppertone, best of luck with the job; hopefully it can lead to a full time position.

talkie, never been one for podcasts, but that one sounds like it’s worth checking out…

wet one, that’s about 6 hours from me, so no meetup this time. Enjoy.

OK, getting close to 10pm here so I’ll catch y’all on Firday.

Busy day, part due to all the W-2 going out.

{{{{nellie}}}}

I’ll re watch it after I finish this Matlock VHS tape.

My best wishes for nellie and kitten_mitten’s family members. And Nellie, that absolutely bites about your rent!

I got my haircut today. I just asked for it out of my eyes and uniform all the way around - just make it look good but I don’t want it too short. She did a good job. She was an Asian lady with a pretty thick accent and she commented that I must not get my haircut too often.

“No, pretty much my second haircut in five years. I’ve always liked it long.”
“Oh, okay,” and then she asked me a question that damn near made me chortle out loud, “so you’ve never gotten a haircut, like a man’s haircut?”

“Nope. No men’s haircut for me, thanks.”

Smartass.

Whereas mine is buzzed to 18 mm at the moment because I couldn’t stand it at shoulder length any more.

We shall see. I’ll be out in the suburbs (Rosenberg), and the area looks very, well, suburban.
Anyway, it’s usually early to bed and early to rise on these trips. Maybe on Sunday we can drive into the city and find something fun to do.

Thanks for your kindness, everyone. It helps more than you know.

My brother said the docs say my sister-in-law may get some or none of her vision back post-op. I feel so sorry for her. She’s an extremely anxious person, and tthe surgery and then various complications made it a long ordeal even before today, much longer than she was told to expect. I wish doctors would give you a realistic range of outcomes instead of assuring you you’ll be dancing by dinnertime. Anyway, I should know more tomorrow.

One of my friends here in the complex is an attorney for the state. She renewed her lease a few months ago. She said these big corporations are jacking up prices all over the country, and they don’t care if tenants leave because eventually, they’ll still make a killing. There was a recent lawsuit against three housing corporations, including mine for price-fixing, but ther wasn’t enough evidence. John Oliver did a great piece on this whole rent crisis a year ago. It’s well worth a watch. I’m still upset, but I’m going to see about a six-month lease instead of a year. That’ll give me more time.

I want to post more, abut my eyes won’t stay open. {{{{{Mumpers}}}}}

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot is currently engaged in his favorite pre work activities, licking cheese like a Tootsie Pop, and defenestrating my wireless mouse.

Mine is at 5mm, mainly because there isn’t enough left to bother with having more.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 36 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 63 and N.O.S. for the day. Today I shall make a lot of chikin sallit. I am doin’ this because tomorrow evenin’ we are havin’ our Epiphany party over to the church house and Sunday is first Sunday brunch along with our annual meetin’ to elect new Vestry members etc. So, some for tomorrow evenin’ and some for Sunday. We even have fancy crackers. Go Us! I respectfully declined nomination to the Vestry. I am very happy doin’ the stuff I do now and there are others who were willin’ to step up to be nominated who would be excellent in the role of Vestry member. So today that will be the big item on the agenda. Sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall comprise the rest of the agenda. Sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

ETA: And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR RRRRRREEEEEEDDDDDD!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

Way back when I enlisted (Aug 1973) my mom was less than thrilled. I found it was because in her mind, the only reason women joined he military was to get a man or get a woman. So, yeah, we hear things. And FWIW, I did get a man, tho it was more than 10 years after I first joined, so perspective…

It’s a start! Congrats!!

Not gonna hem - they would be way too short. But one solution is to hang the offending panel on the other side of the window so the slightly short corner would be against the wall and mostly hidden by the rest of the curtain when open (which it would be most of the time.) Another solution would be a weight sewn into that corner to pull it down. It’s possible that when I was pressing the wrinkles out, I didn’t stretch that side as much as the others. Using a bed as an ironing board is a challenge of its own.

But at the risk of being snarky, MIL is almost blind - chances are she won’t even notice. I don’t think she notices her foods either. I looked in her freezer - she’s got SIX wedges of quiche in there that I made for her - I’m sure she’s forgotten about them. I also brought home the Diet Coke from her place, since I know sodas can get funky after a certain time, and at least the one I just had was starting to turn. I’m seriously worried - she should be living with us. Fat chance of FCD convincing her to move…

Thanks for the reminder - I need to ensaladate (is too a word!!) the leftover rotissed chickie. I completely forgot that I meant to do it yesterday.

I also need to call about our spring HVAC check/service - I’ll schedule it for March or early April. And I’ll call to check on my car - if I don’t get it back relatively early, I’ll need to swap vehicles with Daughter so I can fetch her kids. Life is so complicated!!! < pose of woe >

We got the contract from our marina and FCD needs to confirm that they don’t assess a fee to use VISA to pay, like our last marina did. I like to put as much as I can on plastic because of the cash back, plus one bill and no checks to write! Anyway, if we can do VISA, we’ll set up on their auto-pay plan and that’ll be one less thing. If we can’t do VISA, we’ll do auto-pay direct debit, which doesn’t get us cash back, dammit!

Speaking of VISA, has anyone ever seen a business that will take either VISA or Mastercard but not both? FCD seems to think that’s a possibility, but in my experience, if they take one, they take both. No, it wasn’t an argument - just a lively discussion!

So, my day will be some phone calls, some chickie salad, and fetching the grands.

\color{red}{\textbf{HAPPY RED DAY!!!!!!}}

And Happy Firday to the rest of ya!

Mornin’, mornin’…

It’s 43F and raining at the moment. The expected high is 50F with rain or rain showers continuing into and throughout the afternoon.

nellie, I am so sorry about both the rent issues and your sister-in-law. I hope you can find a solution for the rent issue fairly soon and that things improve STAT with your sister-in-law.

FCM, I would be inclined to let the curtain thing go. I hope the marina accepts the VISA without fees. What I hate is when my creditors and utilities charge me a fee for paying on-line via credit or debit card. That is some bullshit right there.

Happy Birthday, red!

Sending my best wishes that things go well for kittenmitten’s husband.

Welp, just need to get through another day of work and then I have the weekend. I need to go out and get a real winter jacket since I’m going to be traipsing around outside in frigid temps next week. I haven’t had a real winter jacket in probably 10 years. Hopefully, I’ll find something relatively quickly at the mall. I hate shopping anyway, but it’s worse when I can’t find what I need.

I was quite busy yesterday and I’m sure it’ll be the same today. I drive to the office Monday, leave for Spokane on Tuesday, do a bunch of running around in Spokane on Wednesday (with sessions of work in between), head home on Thursday, and work when I get home on Thursday. At least it’ll be a four day weekend, assuming I don’t need to take care of some work-related stuff on Friday.

Alrighty. Need another cup of coffee. I think today may be a three-cup day.
