Another slothite here.
Walking to the corner to get eggs. No snow on the ground. Planning on reading the rest of the day.
Let us know when it gets printed.
Today we’re having my former daughter-in-law, her two boys, my youngest son and his stepson over for pizza. I haven’t seen the two boys in quite some time. The youngest graduates high school this year, and the oldest just got married last year. Tomorrow all the Christmas decos are coming down. Enough, already.
So SSLAW #2 was up to its usual shenanigans. But otherwise a reasonable heave, apart from the cold wet rain. Quick nap before heading out.
4 O’clock. In a park. In the rain. Meeting a 50lbs. terrier mix that hates getting his feet wet. That sounds like Deja Vu.
No kidding, same here.
Yes, I was repeatedly assured, by both the inspector and my landlady, that a work order is in & has been assigned.
My response:
“I’ve heard that for quite a while now.”
Yeah, there’s snowflakes on every foreseeable upcoming day of the forecast. But currently I just see a few tiny flakes drifting down & the roads are still bone-dry.
Would it help even a tiny bit to simply dress him directly in his swim trunks? He can wear those on the way there, as long as you tote along dry clothes for after … would that at least ease the initial part of it?
Can he swim twice as long, to wear him out more?
Sure she does.
But cats are like toddlers: they take “No!” as a personal challenge.
Um, that was supposed to be “awesomely.” Seems my brain was already shutting back down.
Oh, bother! The little shelf for my bed (where my lazy ass keeps an ashtray, coupla half-killed joints, and my phone) just fell off, dumping the ashtray upside-down onto the floor.
At least the mess is contained and didn’t go “FLOOF!” everywhere, but still … bah!

Lately, 15-year-old Bailey has really been struggling with jumping up on the couch (due to her arthritis and muscle weakness). She gets frustrated and barks, and recently has just been giving up and lying down in another room – which doesn’t make either of us happy. She hates being picked up, I can’t seem to get her to use an ottoman as a “step” (even though she uses one to get on the bed), and she won’t use a ramp. But the other day I had an idea:
The cushions only add 7", but removing them makes a world of difference to her! A couch board – one of those things that goes under sagging cushions – is being delivered today, which should help with her footing on the springs. I’m mostly still comfortable on my remaining cushion, but it’s harder to randomly reach over and pet her…when the couch board gets here, I may try joining her on her level (who knows, maybe a firmer seat will be better for my tailbone)!
I think my personal training days are going to change from Tues/Thurs to Tues/Sat. My trainer asked me about it yesterday: he said if Saturdays weren’t good for me it was no problem, that he’s trying to accomodate a new client but my current schedule would have priority. Last night I said no, because I want to try Saturday morning Zumba one or two more times with the regular instructor, but this morning I looked at the class schedule and there is also Zumba on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. So I texted my trainer and told him I’d be ok with the switch. Not only don’t I mind Saturday morning workouts, there are often jazz shows on Thursday nights that I’d like to attend – but by the time I get home and take a shower, I’m not up for going out. So, switching will help me be able to go to some of those. Plus I’m trying to start having virtual voice lessons every other Thursday afternoon, so it’ll give me more flexibility to make up that time/work later on Thursdays if needed.
I was supposed to go to a tattoo removal session this morning, but I rescheduled it to later this month for two reasons: (a) there has been freezing rain since ~10am, and (b) I learned that the president of my volunteer organization – where I’m both a committee chair and an executive committee member – has died (quite unexpectedly)! I don’t know what happened yet. Our secretary emailed the executive committee a couple of hours ago: he and our VP heard about her passing from reliable sources, but hadn’t heard from her family yet. There is no question about succession (per our bylaws the VP immediately becomes president), but there will be an emergency meeting of the executive committee tomorrow afternoon to discuss the situation and our path forward. I knew M. from both this org and the local chapter of a professional organization, where she was also part of the leadership team. She wasn’t much older than me. To say I’m in shock would be an understatement. I guess there is a funeral/memorial service in my near future.
Between that news and the crappy weather, I’m happy to have no plans today/tonight. After the below replies I’ll relocate to the living room for lunch and some TV, and will likely start building the Fender Lego set later today. I expect to finish it this weekend.
Wookit dat face!!!
Hey, that’s not what you told me!
I think my brain just processes “phone” and “tablet” as different enough things that the operating system doesn’t really matter. I would not, however, want to have an iPhone for work while using an Android phone personally…I think that would seriously hurt my head on a regular basis!
Yay!!
D’awwww…
This actually made me laugh out loud…
I think there are some people who truly don’t notice “style” things and figure that as long as the item is fundamentally the same as requested they’ve got it nailed. Silver vs gold and black vs brown simply don’t register. Is that the case with 'im indoors, or did he just completely blow it?
I do this, generally, but today his pants would not accommodate his swim trunks. He has to wear a disposable swim diaper under a reusable swim diaper under swim trunks, which is hard to fit in pants. It is cold weather, so we have to do pants over the trunks. Well today they wouldn’t fit and he insisted on his old trunks, which were too small, then I had to talk him out of those and into the new ones which do fit.
Unfortunately he can’t swim twice as long without us paying twice as much.
It’s just a whole thing. I scheduled a make up lesson for a previous missed lesson at 8am tomorrow, but my beautiful husband said he’d take him.
I have been teaching my Mauser to use a new set of bed steps I ordered. Instead of hard plastic this is a firm foamed set of steps. Mauser still trys to jump but when I tempt him with a treat he’s done these new ones. I’d do for him what I see you have done for Bailey but the dog likes to sleep on the bed.
More likely she just doesn’t care what the furless servant says. She is a cat, after all.
Coincidentally as I was waking up this morning, I thought of the phrase ‘shaved ape’ (that I usually associate with big, strong, dumb henchmen).
Howdy Y’all! Buster got a good send off this mornin’. Afterward there was a very nice reception with all kinds of brunchy type food. Thus, I was a bear who brunches. Then it was back to da cave for nappage. The cake has been made. Next up will be the Epiphany soiree at six p.m. I really wanna go for about an hour and then get back to da cave. We shall see.
If I had a roomie/S.O. they’d have totally called me on this one.
… killed some zombies, then ventured forth in search of chicken curry. (Can’t eat pizza every damn night, and I was just craving something …
different yanno?)
But shamefully, did not clean up the small mess. Ah, well. No roomie to judge!
Wound up being insanely extravagant. Got green curry at Yum Yum but it’s watery as all hell, though quite tasty.
Poured most of the “sauce” over the rice, but I can’t run a 9.5 hr shift on a cuppa rice, even if I do generally run on minimal fuel.
Stopped at Other Asian Place on the way home to inquire, and their curry is the yellow type, which I like.
Figured, “Fuck It I Haz The Hungry” and eventually circled around for their lunch special, plus I had to kill time until it was ready and Walliest of Worlds is right there, so I popped in for some cilantro real quick to doctor up my food appropriately.
… there were three cop cars at the entrance. Dunno what happened - they were standing around shooting the shit, so I assume the problem was contained - but I got my cilantro and some bonus gummy bears because why not, and got the hell outta Dodge.
Yellow curry is … potent smelling, but tastes delishush, especially with a sprinkle generous handful of cilantro.
Plus I have egg drop soup AND the green-curry-enhanced rice, so my tummy should be pretty happy tonight.
(I’ll do something with the rest of the green curry. I suspect a few minutes in a hot pan to concentrate the sauce, and to slice up the enormous chicken pieces into something more manageable, should go a long way.)
… plus I treated myself to a coffee, and one of my cross-stitch bags is still hanging at work for quiet minutes, so things should hopefully be nice tonight.
We had about two inches of snow yesterday, and it’s just cool enough that it’s still sticking. I don’t think we are supposed to get more until tomorrow evening and Monday. That’s part of this storm that’s going northeast. I’m hoping it won’t come before deheathenization tomorrow morning.
shoe The curry sounds good, but you lost me with the cilantro. I’m one of those it tastes like soap people. Gimme some toasted cashews on top of the curry.
If’n the snow keeps up it might amount to something. We’ve gotten an inch in the last hour. I don’t understand the plow truck routine. They were running around on friday when there was nothing coming from the sky, but haven’t seen one yet today. Kinda hate when a plow truck is coming the other way on the road, they don’t really keep the front corner of their plow on their side of the line.
Walked to get eggs, the snow is coming down, and it looks like a pretty Christmas card. Its to rain and be 43 Tuesday.
I’m one of those too. My mom had it as well, but my sister doesn’t and I don’t know about how my dad would have liked it. My sister who is passed liked it. Maybe there’s some gene involved.
Afternoon all. Refereed 3 indoor soccer games and coached one, so the afternoon has been fairly active. Also ran the dishwasher, even figured out the 2-hour delay so they would be done when I came home, not 2 hours earlier. Warming up the house now in anticipation of the evening meal but otherwise planning for slothage.
Spicy (that’s what I’m calling you until someone comes up with a better name), never understood why swimmers had to do their thing so bloody early. And nice having a husband that knows you that well. Good luck with the writing.
Cookie, enjoy the family get-together.
Oopsie, that was a good idea for Bailey, it gives him some independence and a familiar place but takes it easy on his old bones. And exercising, volunteer work, and tattoo removal…sounds like a full agenda.
And time to get back to slothing and internettin’. Catch up (I hope) with y’all later tonight.
I meant to mention this earlier, but are the squirrels just f-ing with me? There was a walnut next to my slippers this morning.
IOW Gordie reincarnated?
So, do you keep your slippers outdoors or do the squirrels come in?
I’m sorry for the death of your fellow volunteer oopsie.
Slothed and napped most of the day. I’m pretty sure that’s what my body needs. I did play in the studio for a while and will continue to do so shortly.
Got the shopin’ done. I went to Chef’s Store and got 5 pounds of American cheese (real cheese, not ‘cheese food’ or ‘cheese product’). I’ve divided the 120 slices into six parcels. That will last us a while. I also bought five pounds of bacon, and parcelled it out into five packets of three servings of four rashers each. That’s 15 breakfasts for the two of us.
Trader Joe’s was a zoo. The parking lot was completely full, and there must’ve been 15 cars prowling the small lot waiting for someone to leave. The second time around the block, I found a spot behind the store. TJ’s discontinued my sugar-free chocolate a long time ago, so I switched to 85% dark chocolate. I haven’t seen any in months. Turns out, that’s been discontinued as well. So I’ll have to get my chocolate fix by sharing my wife’s Pound Plus (½ kg) 72% dark chocolate.
