(Old) Hauntings in the MMP

I feel kinda blurfy so I’ll come home after my chiro appt and just hang. Hopefully there is a Law & Order marathon on some cable station.

I’ve done my re-potting/dividing/removal of spider babies (the plant, not the arachnid) and I’ve found homes for the 2 new plants. That meant I had to clear some crap off a tea cart, which has been done. I found 3 decks of cards and a box of stained glass ornaments that my parents made eons ago. I’ll pass them to Roxy and Tobias some day.

It’s nearly 10 and MIL is still sleeping. Laundry has been sorted - I think I can start a load or 2 while waiting for her to finish her shower so I can do a load of towels. It’s to the basement with me, then!

shoe, your story had me remember “klingons fart in airlocks”. a writer of the original star trek had written a book. in it he had the various outlines of the characters and species.

klingons fart in airlocks, had my nerd herd laughing like 4 year old boys.

jtc, love the stories! vengeance is jane’s! best of luck with the tree.

chefguy, sadie is gorgeous! those eyes!

dogbutler, mirab with sails unfurled.

bippityboppityboo, my heart breaks for what your dil is going through.

i have an invite to thanksgiving, no solo bassett’s turkey. i did buy butter in the shape of a turkey just in case of an invite. this year we are very thankful that my first cousin is doing well and still with us. things were quite rocky last month.

I’m glad that the temp gig is going well!

I’m not a fan of artificial watermelon, grape or apple, which means that a lot of fruit flavored candy is on my ick list.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer, jeans in the wash and everything else on deck. I’m fixing to do KP and houseirk next.

I need to swing by the PO to mail the Thanksgiving cards whilst out shopping today. Tomorrow, I’ll get the oil changed in the grey ghost and take it to the carwash.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

07:20, and I’m starting to think about breakfast (which I probably won’t have for another hour. I could have Vegemite and cheddar on toast, or I can mash up an avocado with salt and garlic powder and have avocado toast, or I can have a sausage patty and an over-easy egg on a slice of toast. Or I could have a slice of leftover meatloaf, warmed just enough to take the chill off. I don’t know.

Second load in the washer, first in the dryer, basement cleaned (as much as it can be as it’s a junk repository) and I roll-sucked all I could without moving furniture. MIL is still sleeping - FCD said she’s breathing. Jessica will be here within the half-hour.

I’m pooped! It’s just coming up on 11. My lunch time, but I’ll wait till after shower time.

I decided on a SPAM® and cheese omelette.

Short heaving. Got laundry going, and they are painting the spots from week before last’s flood. Then naptime.
I like artificial grape flavor. It tastes purple.

Between FIL, MIL, and BIL, y’all have been in an ongoing crisis for what, 4 years? That’s a lot of stress and missed life.

I like old buildings. But that one kinda has the “about to be murdered by a clown from beyond space and time” kind of vibe.

You British people do have a way with the English language.

That’s “tomorrow” around here.

Oooh, my favorites, in that order! More for meeee!

… and, if I’m feeling generous and/or briberous, my coworkers.
Full disclosure, I hide a lot of weird stuff in my apron pockets.
Sometimes, there’s half a box of Mike & Ikes stuffed in with the box cutter and Sharpies. Cuz I didn’t wanna share!

Afternoon all. Shopping is compete, gas tank is full, comforter and slacks are at the dry cleaners and sammiches are being eaten at I type. Ran into a couple old friends from work, probably haven’t seen them in 8 years or so, they are doing well and retired now (would have sworn they were much younger than me…) and we had a nice conversation. Swimming will occupy a fair amount of the afternoon and we’ll see what the night brings.

One rule of cable TV I have learned; there is always a Law & Order show on somewhere on some station 24/7 if oyu look hard enough…

And onward into the remainder of the day.

Very nice glasses. I recognize the saying on the wall - I have the same on my bookshelf. (For those who aren’t familiar, it’s, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass . It’s about learning how to dance in the rain .” -Vivan Greene)

Today’s Swiss trivia: Every child learns how to play the recorder in first grade. Seems to be a rite of passage. Glad we moved here after the neighbor kids were older.

That’s really sweet of you. Your church sounds like a good one.

Yep. Only problem is that I often want pizza after reading some of the stories. Right now I’m thinking about garlic bread, but the nearby stores are closed. Something for tomorrow’s grocery list.

Pretty lady!

And…I’m caught up.

Wednesday was pancake and steamroller day. After the mammogram and the ultrasound, I was deemed healthy. I’ll also get a phone call from the doctor’s office sometime next week telling me the same information.

Hubby’s watching the first episode of the second season of Silo. I read the books after the first season, and I enjoyed them, but still not liking the show. Bit too claustrophophic for me.

Tomorrow we’re going to the disposal center to get rid of a few things, and empty the recycling bag. Hoping to go to the nearby outlet store and stock up on long-sleeved shirts. It’s been close to freezing in the morning and next week we might get some white stuff.

Trying to clear out the upstairs freezer. Seems that every time I do that, I end up with more. How’s that work?

Better go see what I need to get out of the freezer tonight for tomorrow’s cooking and baking plans and make the grocery list.

Not so much on the Dope but in my regular life I hear people talking about how awful SPAM is. I don’t often have it but every time and again I get a can, slice if really thin and fry it for sandwiches. I try not to be a food snob. Hey, if you like a McDonald’s burger that’s okay, then they are good. There’s a number of items I don’t like, but not a lot.

Daughter is going to take Tobias and Roxy to a friend’s house for my grandson’s 3rd birthday this evening. But tomorrow, she’ll pick up pizza and bring the kids over here. I’ll get cupcakes and some candles and we’ll do a family thing. Minus SIL - he has to work.

MIL told FCD she wants him to help her die. It tore him up. Of course he won’t do it but I think we both understand how she feels. Yesterday, I don’t think she was awake for a total of 90 minutes, and except for her shower and enough time to eat half a mini-bagel and have a few sips of hot chocolate, she’s been sleeping. If only she could get her wish in her sleep…

My poor sweetie…

Let them know. My temp job at the elections department turned into 12 years of full time employment.

I am so sorry. I have many other words that are best suited for the Pit so I’ll stand dow for now.

SUGAR!!!

It always makes me happy to see folks enjoy food I’ve given them

Yeah, I’ve had cats too long, LOL!

I have to force myself to go to the gym every day and then I have to motivate myself to actually go in. Once I’m inside the building, its too late to turn around, so swimming I go. Today I was the main entertainment for a three year old, apparently she was sad that nobody was watching me so she wanted to watch me instead of getting her swimming lesson because she had her teacher, mother and aunt watching her and it wasn’t fair that I was alone.

The swimming instructor is a gym employee who charges not a whole lot of money for one on one classes with children under 6 because she believes that is the best time to start them and she wants to make it affordable for the parents.

Both of the ladders for the lap lanes are in the lane by the far wall. I like to use the ladders to get out so used to use that lane if it was open. One time the teacher came in after I got started and very nicely asked me to change to a different lane because the wall helped her young students feel secure. After that, if I saw her come in with a little one, I would change lanes without her needing to ask. Then someone else got upset because reserving lanes wasn’t fair and she wouldn’t put up with it.

I have no idea why she got so upset, I was the one giving up my lane, not them. So now I don’t use that lane ever. It’s not a big deal to me, and I like seeing the littles learn to swim. I think it’s good for them and I want them to grow up to be strong and healthy so they can work hard and pay into my social security.

Swimming hasn’t done anything about my weight and my clothes all fit the same, but I can tell that it is helping anyhow. When I started, I’d have to stop and tread water half way through a lap. Today I did my twenty laps without any break at all. I guess that means I need to move up to 24 laps next. (4 laps is a hundred yards)

Is that a flat shape, like a cookie or a big ball on thick toothpicks? I love butter and cheese molds

I’m not a fan, but my dad loved SPAM so I’ll buy a can once in a while and think about him while I fry it to have with fried eggs. (We also enjoyed several SPAMoramas together. There were some very entertaining contest categories, SPAM as food, SPAM as history, SPAM as art, etc.)

According to the Hormel History With U.S. Military website:

The equivalent of over 133 million cans of SPAM ® products fed hungry soldiers and civilians overseas between 1940 and 1945.

According to Wikipedia:

Spam has long had a somewhat dubious reputation in the United States and (to a lesser degree) in the United Kingdom as a poverty food.

I’ve heard (no cite) that G.I.s ate so much SPAM® overseas that they were utterly sick of it. I think that, and the perception of it as ‘poverty food’ gave it a poor reputation. It seems (to me) that the poor reputation became generational, with offspring who have never eaten it absolutely hate it.

In reality, SPAM® is quite tasty. It tastes like ham (and salt). I cut the block into eight slices. I read a musubi recipe once that said to cut it into 10 slices, and the nutrition label says there are six servings per container. Eight slices is easier to cut.

I’ve posted my dad’s SPAM® salad sandwich recipe before: Grind a can of SPAM® in the meat grinder, and mix it with Miracle Whip (because Miracle Whip is sweet, so that it counteracts the saltiness of the SPAM® – don’t use mayonnaise) and sweet pickle relish. Put it into the fridge for half an hour or so, then spread onto soft white (Wonder) bread. Dad had to coax people to try it because of SPAM®'s poor reputation. Once they did, they always asked for more.

The pink would not have stood out so much on a rose carpet.

It was a bit of a challenge to make myself tread the mill or ride the bike in the basement, but now I look forward to an hour of me time in the dark with random documentaries on the TV. And since it’s just downstairs, I don’t have to dress to be in public or find a parking space! Big win!!!

Laundry is done - finally. And I just pulled a tray of chocolate chip bar cookies out of the oven. Once it cools, I’ll slice the bars. It smells sooooooo good!

I think supper will be air-fried shrimp, some sort of veggie matter, and I dunno, maybe something else? Sitting here inhaling that glorious Tollhouse cookie aroma makes it difficult to think in terms of a healthy meal. :cookie:

MIL woke up, seeming to be in better spirits. She put away her laundry, then laid back down on the couch. Dunno if she’ll have supper or not.

Keller’s Creamery Turkey Shaped Salted Butter - Keller’s Creamery

it is this one. the family is into festive butter.

Got the mail today.
Letter from Housing saying I have unreported income.
This is from early Sept. I did not work, I filled out w2 forms.
I asked them for a letter saying this, they said nope.
It says I must report by the 17th.
Except thats Sunday and Housing is only open Monday-Thursdays.
Wondering if I’m cursed.
