(Old) Heading home to the MMP

baker, thinking about you and atilla.

Late leaving Trondheim. They’ve called twice for 3 specific passengers to contact guest services. I’m guessing they’re late back to the ship. Wonder how long the Captain will wait?

Morning all.

It’s 57°F and partly cloudy. We expect a mix of sun and clouds and a high temperature of 77°F. I am grateful for the dip in temps. It was uncomfortable yesterday.

Baker, sending good thoughts for Attila and hugs to you.

Congrats on the new gig, Sticky!

Metal Mouse, I hope the remainder of your journey is smooth.

Nellie, I hope your back is feeling much better today. I always appreciate how you manage to find a silver lining.

Today’s plans are rollsucking, dusting, and floor washing. I laundered all the bedding yesterday, and will also finish the rest of the laundry today. I will also need to water the posies. I put the pups in their kennels while I’m waiting for the floor to dry. The worst offender for walking on wet floors is my husband.

We grilled extra meaty pork back ribs yesterday using indirect heat. They were juicy and delicious. No sauce; I prefer a dry rub.

Well, it’s time for another cup of coffee, and then I need to get started on the numerous tasks I have to accomplish. I’ve found that as I get older, it takes me longer to perform tasks, so I need to make the most of the time I have today.

I finally rode Ariel yesterday. It was so good to be with my girl. We were both better than I expected. Her ulcers seem to have cleared up and the hock injections have helped. My instructor was giving gentle directions and encouragement.

Today is the day I’ve been planning for months. I’m going to the laundromat to wash my down comforter and summer blanket. Truly, I’ve been procrastinating for months on this and eventually had to put it on the calendar. I have a book, Woolite, tennis balls for the dryer, and cash. I think there is a Subway sandwich shop next door so I won’t starve.

At JFK, Delta Airlines sure loves long terminals, I think this one beats Atlanta, but there is a Shake Shack next to the gate, so lunch is sorted. About 3 hours to flight time, there is a Delta Lounge close by but I suspect the daily pass isn’t worth two+ hours relaxation. Have the NY Times, a book and some London Times sudoku to keep me occupied. Hopefully my next missive will be from my home computer.

glad to hear you and ariel are together again.

laundromats can be a nice break. you sound fully stocked for your adventure. i hope you find a comfy chair.

we are now half way through 2025.

Earlier today a friend reminded me of that fact and also that we’re past halfway to 2050. The turn of the millennium (as celebrated) is now longer ago than 2050 is in the future.

Many of the people here have a reasonable chance of seeing 2050. 2100? Nope.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back.

We had this in Taiwan, and it was worse because we didn’t have constant AC.

In 2050, if I last that long, I’ll be 96.

Cruising another fjord headed to the Noth Sea again. The two late passengers showed up just as they were about to remove the gangway. Five minutes more and they’d have been out of luck. I looked on a map - our next stop would require a 1555 km road trip thru Sweden or a very expensive flight. Bet they won’t be late again.

I’d be 103 in 2050. While not impossible, it’s very unlikely; and I would, in all likelihood, be unaware of it.

I believe cookie is the seniormost MMPer. Yeah, 103 is going to be a stretch goal for sure.

Jan 1, 2050 will find me 91. Dead or alive. The actuarial tables suggest I’ve got about a 1 in 6 chance of being above the lawn, not below. Which is probably more like 1:5 or maaybe 1:4 once you correct for my factors beyond “American and Male”.

Ima gonna need some luck, but not insane luck.

Yes, I do want a patio / balcony. I’ll be in Houston, but a lot of folks do patio gardening there too. Shoot, a lot of us in Tennessee do as well. Most years, I have pots of herbs for cooking out on mine. Had I not had medical issues, then decided to retire, I would have even tried tomatoes again this year (previously, there was a big tree that kept my patio in too much shade for anything that blooms).

You moved about a month before my last one. Since living here, I’ve gotten a dog, changed positions (not by choice) in my company and, beginning tomorrow, retired.

Hey, sensai!

Yay! I’m glad that she’s feeling better and that you’re back in the saddle again.

2050 would put me at 87, my dad’s age now.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, talked to Sis and fixing to do KP.

Nelson is looking a whole lot better today. He is also playing like normal, so I hope that we’ve turned the corner.

I’ll have to put on pants today to go pick up a prescription and something to take to SIL’s Friday. I’m thinking strawberries, blueberries and a nice trough of whipped cream down the middle.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Holland America has the reputation of being a geezer cruise line. I look around at other passengers and wonder how old they are - I’m no good at guessing ages. Not too long g ago, we were talking with a guy who told us he was 71. I’m 71, and I’d have guessed he was at least 80. So I have no idea about our fellow travelers.

Best I dare guess is that chances of the 90+ crowd being aboard is pretty small, and probably not much better for 80s. Love to know the average age aboard, tho.

I tried quoting and replying on my phone, but it just wasn’t cooperating. So a small delay.

It’s currently 33°C / 91.4°F and it’s considered a Level 3 heat warning because the mean daily temperature (over 24 hours) is above 25°C/ 77°F for more than 3 days. Translated details are here.

We were in an air-conditioned hotel room last night with blackout curtains. Bliss. Except for the fact we went to bed after midnight and were rather worn out after attending a rock concert which started at 8:20 pm. The concert venue was so humid, that when a guitar pick landed on my arm, it stayed there, instead of sliding off.

Sorry for your loss, {{{herald}}}.

@JaneDoe42 I asked my parents if they had ever had chocolate cream horns and they said they never heard of them. And they both said they wouldn’t try them. My parents are turning into their parents. :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s cute. Just read up on him. I’m familiar with his Montreux Jazz Festival poster, but I didn’t know he was from Reading, PA.

{{{baker and Atilla}}} Hope the scans find something easily treatable.

Same temp as here.

Hooray! And good news about the ulcers as well.

In 2050 I’ll still be younger than my parents, so I’ll probably be around then.

Need to go get some more water. The heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow. At least in our corner of the country. I’m ready.

In June I submitted forms to the State of California to claim unclaimed property (mom’s IRA). Six months later, they said they needed a notarised claim form from my sister, with a two-week deadline from the date of their mailing (a week earlier), right during the holidays. I tried to beat the deadline by sending the form to my sister, but she never sent it back. I sent it to her again a couple of weeks ago, and she finally returned it. California sent back everything I’d sent them, so now I have to send it all back to them, plus sis’s form. I’ll have to do that for my lunch break today. The previous documents are saved as .pdf (and one .jpg) documents on my computer. I scanned the three pages sis returned, and I emailed everything to the person who responded to my request for instructions recently.

Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly this time! :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

I did that once – Tokyo to Frisco. It was made bearable by the plane’s being less than half full, so I was able to claim an entire centre section of seats and stretch out for a couple hours.

Spent two weeks there in the early '90s. Lovely city, but very expensive – at the then-current exchange rate, a beer cost around US$5.00; I can’t stand beer, so I was drinking Irish coffee, at US$9.50 each. One of my favourite port calls, though.

Went to a concert there – a small chamber orchestra playing Bach, IIRC.

Ditto. I highly doubt I’ll make it, though – I’ve already lived longer than any of my parents or siblings. Lady SCAdian’s family tend to live longer than mine, though, so she has a a good chance of seeing that year.

Seinfeld/ But I don’t WANNA be seniormost!/Seinfeld

I thought we had someone in their 80s on here.

How old is hippie?

So today I was loading Bottom Blue. On the 200 Boxline. And for once, it wasn’t too bad. Although somehow 4 medium boxes going to 1 stop can be a “bulk load”, but 15 assorted sized ones going to a different stop is not. And once again Unload managed to destroy a toilet(Literally, not in a figurative “I had 6 shots of tequila, then ten bean burritos with Diablo Sauce at Taco Bell and had to use their restoom”) In any case, I stopped and got fixings for tonight’s tortellini with meatballs, and got rained on by the scattered showers. But the sauce is slow cooking, so I shall nap, and be stomped on by Spot.

To be fair, it’s not like you have a Teams call at 1500, and a meeting at an undisclosed location tomorrow in the A.M.

I might. I plan on being immortal, or die trying.

Yay!

Yay!

Not if you switch to a  Wally World  pharmacy.

< crosses fingers >

Bumba is 80 or so, but he’s not been here in ages.

My evening excitement was rinsing out some socks and unders. Who needs a bar when you have a bathroom basin?
