(Old) Heading home to the MMP

Today’s episode of I’m Like Lucy is called “Bad Day on the Bus.” Only one bus stops near my apt. Scene 1: I’m so used to going eastbound that I got on that bus instead of the westbound bus that goes to the pharmacy. So I went to the station but stayed on the bus because it then goes west. The bus leaves, and I realize it’s headed east, not west. It magically morphed into a different number bus. (I swear, I did not get off.) So I get off, walk back to the bus station, and wait for the right bus, which does take me to the pharmacy. I got the meds and arrived back at the bus stop with 1 minute to spare. Too late. There’s a driver who always leaves the terminal 2 mins early, so I missed it. I waited in the 90º heat. The next bus was late. You can’t win, I tells ya.

But I am home. YAY! My back is…well, let’s not discuss it.

Today is the 9 year anniversary of my move to Washington! In that time, I got cancer, lost my dearest friend (and others), developed arthritis in spine and knees, became legally blind for 7 years, and had 7 surgeries. HOWEVER, I regained my sight, got to see my kids more often, met some nice people, got to live in a blue state that has a milder climate.

Cupcake, have already commenced prayers for Attila.

JtC, how nice that you got Boo baskets!

CONGRATS, Sticky! It sounds like a great job!

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Then RDOS inactivities ensued. Nappage was achieved. We day drank out on the back porch and listened to thunder rumbles but no rain/tstorm/apocalypse happened. Sup got et and the kitchen got cleanded up. The lasagna was good, but in the future I shall go back to my slovenly ways and buy Stouffer’s.

{{{CupCakes and Atilla}}} prayers ascend.

Sticky_Buns conga rats on the new gig!

MetalMouse glad you made it back. Only one more time zone to go!

Cupcake Many soft skrithes for Attila. And {{{}}} to you.

Metalmouse Hope the rest of the trip goes well.

I spent the day making some prototypes of an air harp. Aeolian harp Now am waiting on a day when there is some actual wind, today was hot still and muggy. Tomorrow will be making prototypes of flying ping pong balls as a metaphor for viruses. I have a pretty weird job.

Many good wishes on the way. Poor Atilla and poor you. I hope you get the results you want.

Uggh. Slept there many a night. Condolences. But welcome back to USA. USA. USA.

The Hilton hotel next door used to have a much nicer breakfast than the Hampton. But Google maps shows me the Hilton has been half torn down and maybe some office building is coming up in its spot. So I have no advice on a decent breakfast anywhere near there. Sorry. If that still is a functional Hilton, give it a try, but be prepared to pay $25 plus tax and tip. Breakfast at any Hampton’s is just … sad. Not even wasted promise. Just sad ingredients sadly prepared in sad surroundings by sad old ladies. So much concentrated Sad.

Best of luck to @Baker and Atilla

My last 2-3 days have been lazy but fun. Stayed out waaaay too late last night (like 0130), albeit not too boozy, so today has been real low key. But I caught up on some admin, some cleaning, and some pile-o-shit clearing out. So happy.

GF took the fast train to her Mom’s in Orlando today. I expect to deliver a lot of long-distance hugs and supportive noises until she returns a week from now. The plan is to find a suitable ordinary apartment for Mom to rent not far from GF’s sister = Mom’s daughter’s residence in town. Which move will permit selling the townhouse she lives in now, which is owned and paid for by GF & soon to be ex-husband. More loose ends tidying up. Yaay.

But … Mom really should have been in independent living 5 years ago, not 1+ years from now. But she’s not emotionally ready yet, despite mosnster raving loony need. The raging fantasy degree of stubborn is strong in that one. At least Sis is a total controlling pill of a woman trying to drive a wedge between GF & Mom. So we have that going for us too.

God I’m glad my entire family is either really truly most sincerely dead, or at least functionally dead to me. So much less drama and obligation.

Good to have you back on American soil. Get a good night’s sleep.

Yay! Good vibes for the new gig.

{{{nellie}}}

Ooh. Thanks to @missred for reminding me of this new devleopment.

My ex-wife had been, among other jobs, a high school math teacher for many years. Before and during our marriage she ended up working for a virtual school and really liked it. The work was easy, the process was simple, the stress was minimal, and the wages were good. Lots to like there.

For sure the quality of various companies and students varies all over the map. Here’s hoping you’ve found a good one. I can vouch for the fact they do exist.

Best of luck!!1!

I never had kids, so losing a cat is right up there with losing a parent. :crying_cat:

Mrs. L.A. had a tuna-and-egg salad sandwich for dinner. I found the rest of the bag of Spring mix salad that we’d had with the nikumaki last week, and I used about half of it to make a salad with crumbled feta, kalamata olives, California Ranch olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. It was good, though it didn’t really need the olives. They sort of clashed with the vinegar. I had cashews for dessert.

My boxed set of My Favorite Martian just arrived. Also, two bottles of Huy Fong sriracha sauce.

Up from naptime, and having Redneck Stirfry. Spot is having dry, flavorless bits.

I could do that!

HiThanksForStoppingByHopeYouCanFixOrReplaceYourPcSoon.

< crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages >

Bit of a roller coaster.

I sure do hope you/she finds something nice soon. Besides a one bedroom, are you also trying to get a little patio or yard as well? The apartment buildings in DFW with balconies look like jungles because of all of the healthy plants.

I always hated flying to and from Asia because of the time difference. It sucked when I was young, I think I’d really suffer now.

Be careful on your trip home, you will be tired and wanting to rush because you miss your bed. I understand that part too!

I know they are going to just adore you, I hope you love them all back! Congrats!!!

I adore this about you. You are always so willing to look at the up side of things.

We had great boomers AND big rain, it was wonderful. Hubs told me that we only got a little over an inch of rain and my thought was only? We are used to thinking that three inches of rain in a year is good and now an inch in a couple of hours is only. It looks like we are both settling in pretty well, LOL!

And I’ll bet you just love it! Plus, I know they just love you, how fun is all of that

:joy:

This morning I thought I should clean my room. The housekeepers don’t do more than mop and dust because my room is also where the cats run to hide from their noisy doings. This is also why I don’t often do a top to bottom myself. We have pets because we love them and want them to be happy.

While the fuzzbutts weren’t super happy about the noise and fuss “GET OFF MY WET FLOOR!!!”, they did like the results because I washed their beds and made them all fluffy again. I also washed the windows…which might be why it rained.

I’m a little grumpy about our new windows that I kept bragging about. Double hung so I can wash them whenever I want! Yeah, right. I can’t reach the latches for the top windows.

You are so very wise!

So I’ve got the Fourth figured out. Neighborhood BBQ’s are an all day thing and people kinda come and go when they need naps or whatever. Hubs is planning on smoking two pork butts (I was doubtful about the room, but he says he’s measured it several times) and I’ll bring put together a nice veggy tray. We can hang out for a while and then I can leave while he continues to bask in the praise of his perfectly smoked southern BBQ.

After a few hours at the capital, I will come home, change back into mufti and arrive with a few bottles of mead. I’m certainly not going to discuss politics but I’ll certainly talk about drunk slugs.

It’s 6:30 in the Norway AM and we’re coming into Trondhein. Overcast and cool but no rain, so yay for that. Today we’re going on a bus tour of the city - maybe I’ll buy my first souvenirs!

Happy Wednesday!

Of course he does~just listen to how you talk about him.

{{{{{{{{ Baker}}}}}}}} I’ll holding you, your beloved Attila kitty and the vet staff in the light.

Hi everyone!

I popped back in to say hello! I like the MMP, but my life gets really crazy and it’s hard to keep up with everything.

I always feel bad that I can’t keep track of what’s happening with everyone else.

News from here:

SenGirl is back from her three months in Germany on the high school exchange program. Her partner stayed with us for only six weeks instead of the usual three months. The German girl was really nice and we enjoyed having her.

SenGirl has a two-week internship at a production company in Taiwan. She had fun.

SenBoy had a two-week internship at a farm with his class. They also enjoyed it.

SenWife is gone again to Tokyo on business so it’s just SenBoy and I.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

< waves back >

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 20c/68f and cloudy. Weather app says “I’m completely fucking apathetic with this merely so-so day.” It’s cloudy but there’s a hint of brightness in the sky, but blissfully cool after the last few days of scorchio!

We have to do our own research before we leave the UK, so for some locations there have been messages sent to local Dopers asking for recommendations for the area’s seedy bars

I am sorry, back pain is one of the worst things to experience. Sending gentle, healing hugs.

Sending healing vibes for Atilla, 18 is a great age for a cat but it does bring with it a lot of difficulties. Big hugs for you too, it’s hard to see our fuzzbutts poorly. I, too, hope that we meet them again in another life, I have so much to thank mine for.

Welcome back to home ground, and almost home!

How fantastic! I am so happy for you!

Hello, welcome back, drop in when you can! Looks like you and the family are doing really well, I’m glad the kids are enjoying life and you’re getting to spend some quality time with them.

Yesterday was a busy one as I finished off some irk stuff that I’d been wanting to get through, then we had an urgent job dropped on us just before I was about to log off, so I had to get that done. Afterwards, I went to make campus food for a couple of days (short week!) and then I had a bit of sofa time before feeding the cats and cleaning litter trays again.

It was much cooler last night too, so more comfortable for sleeping with just a fan running instead of the big noisy aircon unit. We had some rain overnight, not much but just enough to freshen things up a bit. I’m at irk, windows are open, there’s a nice cool breeze and it’s all looking good.

Hopefully I will be at the pub tonight with my friends, just waiting for an email to say that we’re all good. Also had an email from 'im indoors with a request to print out our Eurostar tickets for our trip to Belgium a week on Friday so I’ve done that too. Always fun to be printing out tickets for travel!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN* ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 and cloudy with rain later this afternoon. TWPTB say Firday will be sunny, so our guests and we can have quality cee-mint pond time. YAY! The big plan of the day is to procure provisions this mornin’ and then have lunch at the hog trough GC. I may do some prep irk for the big Fourth of July feast. There will be six of us and the menu will be ribs, chikin (both smoked), baked beans, N.O.T. sallit, and garlic bread. JDD and Partner are bringin’ boiled peanuts to munch on at the cee-mint pond. Everyone is bringin’ there own libations. Oh, and watermelon for dessert. We’ll eat well if nuttin’ else. There will be the usual RDOS inactivities as well today.

MOOOOOOM enjoy the tour today!

MetalMouse safe travels back to Alabammy.

sensei ::tacklehug:: glad you checked in. Appears the seifamily are all livin’ their best lives!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Le sigh.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Mornin’ all - Not quite 0600 as I start to drivel. I’ve been up almost an hour, the sky is slowly lightening towards dawn, Venus shines brightly, and NWS sez right now it’s a glorious 82/28 & cozily humid with a gentle breeze. Perfect balconatin’ weather.

Once again the day is setting up for some general high grayness to heap depression on what would otherwise be a day of sunny happy blue, plus some puffies and a shower or two here and there. The high should be about 91/33.

My dehumidifier is working exactly as hoped; the humidity is down (outside right now is a comfy 86% while inside is 51%) and the noise and hassle and intrusiveness is zero. For once a project is a wall-to-wall success. I reset the HVAC fan to run constantly to keep everything stirred together and also keep the air moving and I’ve now got 5 thermometer / humidity meters in my 3 rooms and two walk-in closets. They all seem to agree on the temp and humidity and the ranges thereof. So evidence of good mixing, which is the way to avoid stagnant spots in closets where grunge gets a toehold on those clothes you don’t wear often, then takes off.

Housekeepers will be here in a couple hours so I’ll make myself scarce about then.

My remaining plans for today? A nap I think, assuming I can get up the gumption. Have just a couple more long-time procrastinations I might kill.

As to y’all …

Welcome back Sensei! You’ve been missed. So the German girl came to Japan to live with an American guy and a Taiwanese woman? No wonder she was able to go home early; she got a three-fer out of her time there!

All the kids’ adventures sound remarkable. What an interesting life they’ll have led even before they escape school into the “real world”, wherever that is.

Boofae I’d missed the bit about the Belgium trip planning. But you’re right; the time you print or download your tickets is about when it starts feeling real. Not to speak for everyone, but I hope you’ll post a thorough travelogue of your activities, dive bars and all.

FCM: we had a nice city tour of Trondheim as well. An interesting place with a lot of history crammed into a small place. And not much walking, so FCD ought to get along OK. Enjoy!

General congrats, boos, and {{Hugs}} to all the rest as appropriate. I have been following along.

Good morning, everybody and thanks for the good wishes!

Pilot, thanks for the reassurance/information. I expect there to be a bit of stress involved in this position because it is helping students who have dropped out and/or are struggling to graduate. However, helping people is something that I enjoy.

I’ve been trying to figure out where to establish my office. The best place space-wise would be on the second floor. However, if my legs and knees are being cranky, that might not work. Then I was thinking about a corner of the dining room. But I think that the answer might be to use a corner of the Potter Pod under the stairs. It is more private and out of the way. I’d have to move some of my art storage shelving back into the dining room, but that seems like the best of all options so far.

Today we are going to Akron. My great aunt is turning 90 and we’re going to have lunch with her. We have some stops along the way including going to the mall to see what Torrid has on sale in the way of tops. Since I’ve lost weight I have about 3 work-worthy shirts and I’ll need a few more.

Morning all. Was in bed almost 10 hours, mostly asleep so should be caught up. The Hampton Inn is ok for a layover, but as Pilot noted, there are few places to eat nearby and breakfast was a small biscuit and Rice Krispies (but did eat two apples so I’m good). Flight to Atlanta isn’t until 1:29pm so will be hanging around the airport for awhile.

Best and heartfelt wishes for Attila, yay for the job, and fingers crossed for other needs and concerns. Just need to navigate New York JFK and Atlanta airport today to make it home, might be an adventure there.

Take care all.

sensei - lemme tell you a secret: I’m here every day and I can’t keep up. Of course, that has to do with my feeble short-term, um, yanno…

The excursion this morning was a good one. We stopped at the Nidaros Cathedral and the Trondelag Open-Air Folk Museum. Plus we drove around the city and the guide told about its history (without dwelling on architecture! ) It’s the 3rd largest city in Norway, but fewer than a quarter of a million I habitants. And very clean - no litter that I could see.

We got back for lunch, then had some hot tub time. FCD is resting in our room and I’m in a deck chair looking at the city. Rough life, I tells ya!

Tomorrow is a sea day and we’ll cross the Arctic Circle. Tonight’s entertainment is a comedian, or so it says. Hope he’s at least a little funny. We shall see.
