I got a text from Wifey, RN, who is out with patients this afternoon. Someone put a sign in our driveway, with a carrying bag, asking for their chair to be returned. I saw it when I went to get the mail a little bit ago. That was my first time outside today. I suspect someone put their chair by the street, and someone came along thinking it was a free thing for the taking. But why would they put their sign in our driveway? I mean, we’re here! Instead of coming to the door and asking if we picked up a chair (which we didn’t), this person had to go find a piece of cardboard and a marker, make the sign, and then come back.

As of 10 minutes ago I am done working, at least until Saturday! Woot! Today involved a lot of proposal work and not nearly enough day-job work, but whatchagonnado. I’m kind of on standby for the weekend: I need more proposal info from a couple of people, and if they’d rather dictate the details vs typing them up there’s a chance Sat/Sun might be the best time for them. There are also short MS Teams proposal status meetings at 10am both Sat and Sun that I plan to join, and if I get motivated on Sunday I might tackle some of the day-job-related stuff I slacked on today. Supporting this proposal is a good strategic move for me in terms of visibility, but right now I kind of regret agreeing to it. Ah well. The final deadline is Tuesday night, so it’ll be over soon enough.
At the very least I’m looking forward to definitely being off all day tomorrow, and to seeing my BFFs and their “niece” (and her family) on Saturday evening.
More good Bailey news: the vet called this morning with her test results, and all is well! The only thing even slightly abormal is that her blood sugar is a little low, but he agreed that it could be due to her not eating much lately. I’ll ask them to check it again at her annual exam in October, but neither of us is worried at the moment. It’s nice to know that her atypical Addison’s Disease is still well-controlled, and that nothing serious is going on other than the pain I’m already aware of. She’s still struggling a little, but ate more dog food today than I’ve seen her eat in almost two weeks.
Time to write a few replies, then relocate to the living room for the rest of the evening/night. I have new episodes of a few shows to catch up on (Murderbot, And Just Like That, and Resident Alien), and then I’ll see if I feel like watching anything other than Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders tryouts. The new shows/movies/documentaries are piling up – including S4 of The Bear – but for whatever reason this stupid, dated reality show is what’s working for me lately! LOL!
Woo hoo! Congrats!
LOL! (I mean, it’s not really funny, but…hopefully you get what I mean. )
Good luck with getting through tomorrow!
A word that I instantly recognize and can define, but would never be able to think of!
I see that, and raise “Why would they put a chair by the street {in the summer} if it wasn’t free for the taking?”
Sounds like maybe they need a Bill Engvall-type sign. And you need a sign alongside theirs that says “This house didn’t take your chair. Remove your sign from our property please.”
The advanced initiation ceremony is one nap before lunch, one after. Then you know you’ve arrived.
Seriously, congrats. I know the backstory is crappy, but the outcome is going to be great.
By coincidence I got a call today from another pilot friend. We always promise to call each other more often, but somehow it’s about once a year.
Anyhow, he’s just getting started with all his administrivia for a birthday / retirement date in January. So we talked a lot about that. For 2-1/2 hours. My other, closer, pal I speak of more often is going to retire in Feb. Seven months from now I’ll be nearly out of friends who still work there; we’ve darn near all aged off. The era winds to a close with a whimper as they all always do. Sigh.
I made a sign saying ‘We didn’t take your chair’, and secured it with my worn-out walking shoes I don’t want. As I walked out, one of the neighbours was walking out too. It was her son-in-law who put the sign out. He was sitting by the street watching the kids last night, left for (‘what seemed like’) five minutes, and the chair was gone when he got back. Anyway, I put my sign into the recycling bin.
Poor Maisie. I hope that you can get her some relief.
Do I have to buy a 1992 Buick LeSabre too?
Yay!
Day 1 of RDOS went well. Other than looking for apartments this morning and talking to Sis, I’ve just messed around listening to podcasts and working up scraps in the studio. Thanks for all of the good wishes!
Howdy Y’all! I was a bzzy bear today! It was foggy and wet early today, so that meant I had to wait for a little bit before mowage. Got the smoker goin’ and then made myself somewhat presentable and went over to the church house to take care of candle duty. Got back to da cave, changed into grubbies and accomplished mowage. Then it was shower, lunch and nappage time. Also got the N.O.T. sallit made. The pies did not happen cause I ran out of steam and couldn’t be bothered. Think I will make them for Sunday as that is first Sunday brunch day. We did not starve today. This was an any need to feed will be via forage day. The ribs and chikin are off the smoker and look/smell soooooo good! I am tahrd right now! A very early bedtime is foreseen.
So, the tea got spilled over the delivery driver feud.
Apparently the FedEx guy went to high school with the UPS guy’s little brother. Little brother and FedEx guy went out hunting when they were teenagers and the FedEx guy ended up shooting little brother in the back. Little brother survived and is now doing office work in Ohio.
It was ruled to be accidental, everyone knows that teenage boys, beer and guns are a bad mix.
Ain’t nobody can hold a grudge like a WV hillbilly. The UPS guy’s great grandkids will be born hating the FedEx guy!
Howdy. Busy day here. Tomorrow we have our guest coming and so today was spent mostly cleaning. I haven’t mopped the floors yet, but will probably do that early in the morning. Then I’ll make the lasagnas and all the other courses for lunch.
I might need to recuse myself from the rest of the year’s golf league. I played today, and my back is really killing me. As a result of the back, I seem to be compensating somehow into my knees (which are not great either…ACL, meniscus tears, then lower down I’ve torn both Achilles tendons) and I had my right knee buckle out twice this evening.
So they were changing out the HVAC system on the apartment across the hallway today, which involved dragging multiple large metallic objects down 3 flights of stairs with a handcart, with accompanying cacophony. So Spot spent the afternoon under my bed, and I didn’t get much of a nap. Also, my oven is not ovening, on a long holiday weekend. So pizza it is tonight(sorry, local shoe, but I did tip like a drunken sailor.). Also the neighbors have started setting off ordnance. I’m having a Brasil cocktail

He should hire some of the people at my job, they take passive aggressive signage to 11: Preloader. Please place Next Day Airs on driver seat instead of 1000 shelf. thanks -Driver That is against best practices for loaders. the will follow the methods - Preload supervisor(who literally drew a clown emoji on the sign)
Good evening. I finally mustered up enough willpower to get dressed for the gym, pack a change of clothes and some body wash and went to the gym…only to find that I had not re-packed my gym pass back in my billfold. So the only thing I could do was buy a small bag of Lay’s chips and come home… The gym is open 8-4 tomorrow, so I will get some exercise. Waiting now for the booms to start, the city is having it’s fireworks tonight about 3 miles from me, so I’ll be hearing it. But nothing more constructive from me until tomorrow. And it is still 78F at 8:45pm.
shoe, {{{hugs}}}, cause it sounds like you could use some. And what JtC said.
JtC, thanks for the info on Krogers, I suspect it may get intense here too since they are scheduled to be open on the 4th. And the UPS/Fedex feud is…so stupid yet so human
flyboy, that does sound weird. Any idea who did it, I’d be a little worried given the number of screwballs out there, but know you’ll be observant and smart. And I see the mystery was solved, which leaves the ‘who took the chair’ open for debate–someone call Colombo…
Oopsie, working Sat/Sun on a 3-day holiday doesn’t seem right. Hope it is worth it. And yippee on the Bailey news.
VanGo, best to take care of your back and knees, I know how much they can hurt.
And I can hear the booms from the fireworks starting, so that’s all for this evening. Take care all.
Now the local artillery is going nutz. It’s not even colorful (I mean, some splashy colors would be nice), just noisy.
So poor Monkey is confined to the Great Indoors, and isn’t too happy about it.
Until he hears “KABOOM” and decides, okay, we snuggle with Ms. Shoe.
I got DoorDash delivery as a hyoooooge splurge, since my Stoopit Thing Didn’t Work Out, and am doing my best on the “eating” thing.
Wish me luck, the anxiety isn’t my best friend tonight.
Also, are we bombing the Russians out there?!?
