(Old) Heading to the land of penguins in the MMP

Just didn’t have a lot to say.

DFW is freekin’ huge airport! Glad we could take the train from A to D. Also glad FCD brought his cane. He’s having a time of it.

We get dinner on this next flight, then breakfast. Hope I can sleep some. It’s been a long day already.

Ask for Pillow and blanket night night! :penguin:

Good luck on the next leg of your journey, FCM!

And, everyone, thank you for all your support, prayers and hugs.

Because of the nasty weather coming in tonight, Partner and I decided to do a date day today. It was really what I needed, the two of us curled up on the couch watching Doctor Who together for about 4.5 hours. I was able to put my worries aside for a little while.

On the way home, Dad called. They’re transferring him to Vanderbilt because, since he doesn’t have enough going on, there’s a problem with his heart and they’re going to need to do surgery on it. So that makes the bleed on both sides of his brain, the mass on the left side, the broken T8 which will need to be repaired and no the problem with his heart. On top of the kidney failure that’s necessitating the dialysis. I can’t help but wonder how much more his 75 year old body can take.

He said that he’s not expecting to ever go back home. And as much as I don’t want it, I’m expecting the same. I’ll be happy to be wrong but… it’s been such a rough year. I’m trying to keep my family updated and there’s the part of me that wants to tell them to get here. But right now, I just don’t know. I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll talk to someone at Vanderbilt that can give me a better idea of what’s going on.

I was proud of myself for not bursting into tears while I was on the phone with him. He doesn’t need that. But as soon as I hung up, I sobbed in Partner’s car for a few minutes, then came in the house and sobbed to Hubby.

So right now I’m just waiting, holding on and hoping that whatever is supposed to be will happen.

Wishing the best of outcomes for your dad fishy.

That sucks about your daughter’s school Moooooom. I hope that you can put your worries on the back burner for the rest of your trip and enjoy yourself.

Wintergeddon, part deux has begun. It got above freezing this afternoon (it’s hovering around that now) and rained. Tonight, we’re supposed to get into single digits again, freezing all of the rain that we’re getting. Tomorrow, snow’s in the forcast, putting powder on the ice for camo.

I made the executive decision to swing through the Pubic Sto’ on the way home from irk for groceries (outta milk and powdered sucks in coffee), even though I hadn’t done any menu planning and had no list. $43 later, I made my way home and won’t have to leave the apartment further than taking Nelson out for the weekend. I foresee laundry, housecleaning and crafting for the weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m sorry fishy. That sounds so hard. I hope you get some clarity soon.

We were way shorthanded today. At one point I was the only person in the dumping station(ususally they have 4). Then they sent all the Smalls people to help on the slides. Hours for me, so yay. Ace is being Ace. The County shelter isn’t doing owner surrenders which limits the options.

Harumph!

5 years or so.

{{{{Fishy and Dad }}}

Sorry about FCDaughter’s school. Hope she can land on her feet. And safe travels!

Happy Thorsday!

Still freakin’ cold.

We took Echo to daycare, so had only the GR home with me.
They gave me a scare this morning. I couldn’t find Echo and Rayleigh in the dark. Then I heard a dog barking back in the field behind my house. I was starting to panic that they had found a way out, but they finally came running to me.

I guess I was misunderstood. I told my son if he got off early do not call me for a ride home. I’ll get him if he irks a full shift.
I’m not getting up in the middle of the night anymore. I’m also not going out in this cold to get him. My road is dark, narrow, twisty, and hilly, with a little ice here and there, and lots of deer.

As to who pays for the cab? He gives me his paycheck, so there is no my money or his money.

Just small irritations the last week or so.
I had a reaction to a new drug I was taking. I’m glad I trusted my instincts and skipped the next dose. The doctor cut the dose in half, and now it’s good.
It took me five trips to CVS to get my prescriptions filled.

  1. One drug needed approval from my insurance company. I picked up the rest. Only the clerk forgot to put one of them in the bag. I got home, noticed it was missing and had to go back.
  2. I went back to get the missing script. Because the drive through had been open, I went by myself. When I got there the drive through was closed. I can’t get the walker out of the truck by myself so I had to go back home and get my son to go with me.
  3. Pick up missing script
  4. Got notice that insurance approved my script the next day. Go back to get it. The drive through is open, I am the first car in line. It took them 20 minutes to finally come to the window. The girl goes to get the script and she can’t find it. Another woman is helping her look. The pharmacist is helping her look. The other clerk is helping her look. After 20 minutes, she comes back to the window and asks if I can come back tomorrow.
  5. Call to make sure they found my script. Make sure drive through will be open. Finally got my meds.

And I got the refund for the water bill. It is wrong. The title company held back $500 for my water bill. My bill has never been higher than $180. Nobody has lived in the house for several months, so the water bill should be low. I got a check for $286 AND the city deducted $145 from my checking account for the water bill.
I don’t know if I should call the title company or the water department, or both.

Like I said, it’s nonstop problems, not of my making, but I’m the one who has to clean it up.

Tomorrow, I have an appointment with the pain doctor. That is a PITA that I have to go once a month because of taking Tramadol. Then we will get groceries, and gas up the truck.
We’re supposed to get more snow, so that is an excuse to stay indoors until my son goes back to irk Toosday.
Maybe we can chip away at the ToDoList.
I have to remember to mail the get-well card to my son’s paternal grandmother. She has been sick, was in the hospital, and is not recovering well. I told my son he should send her a card, even though he really doesn’t have much to do with them. I wish things could have worked out with his paternal side, but they didn’t and so it is.

{{{RealFish}}}

I gave up on last week’s MMP with nearly 200 posts left unread. I’ve kinda-sorta been keeping up with this one, but haven’t had the time or inclination to post until now.

I’m still here in suburban Houston. We finished the project today, and I’m heading home tomorrow. It was a good job with very few problems; we just put in some very long days. The shortest weekday was 9 hours and the longest 11 and a half, plus we did six hours on Saturday. On Sunday I did a very convincing imitation of a bump on a log.

The weather has been nuts. Three days ago there were ice storms. Two days ago it was 18°F. Today it was nearly 70. Of course, many of you have been going through even nutsier weather, so I can’t complain.

Moooom, I hope you and FCD have an amazing trip.
I feel bad for FCDaughter. Of course losing a job is tough, but it also seems like she really and truly cared about that school, and losing that has got to hurt terribly.
Still, remember that you are on vacation. Do not spend it wishing you were somewhere else to fix everyone else’s problems.

RealFish, I’ve been through what you’re going through with your Dad - so many of us have - and yet I have no special guidance to offer you. There’s no map for this. Yeah, circle of life and all that - doesn’t make it any easier. My thoughts are with you.

Shoe, we had a cat some years back whom we called “Monkey,” even though that wasn’t her name, because she, you know, acted like a monkey. It’s a perfectly logical and reasonable name for a cat, if’n you ask me.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 58 and N.O.S. for the day. Then it will be cold the next couple of days with lows in the twenties and highs in the forties. After that it will warm up with highs in the 70s by the end of next week. Weather by Cybil indeed! We shall head over to the church house this mornin’ so I can take care of various duties and then we will be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. Afterwards we shall be our usual slothful selves the rest of the day. Sounds like a plan to me!

Wheelie sounds like work has gone well. Safe travels home tomorrow!

Real_Fish there are indeed no words of wisdom for this. Prayers will continue for a peaceful ending whatever may be in the followin’ days and weeks.

shoe I never named a pet monkey, but have called most of 'em silly monkeys, so I get Monkey as a name for a pet.

MOOOOOOM hope all is going well wherever you are now.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother yet again, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. This will be three days in a row. Oh the pain and sufferin’ I endure!

Happy Firday Y’all!

Mornin’ all. Not quite sunrise here, been readin’ n’ caffinatin’ for 90-ish minutes. presently 69/21 on the way to 79/26 with high thin clouds here and there. Expecting patchy light rain later.

Truefish: here’s wishing things take the best path forward. They won’t of course, but I hope at least you can avoid the worst outcome: long lingering miserable debility and discomfort. Different people have different views, but IMO death is not the worst fate; wishing you were dead is.

As to doggios’s fine chin beard … You, good Sir, are blessed with ears close to your head. I have a narrow head and Alfred E Neuman jug handles. More head hair and side whiskers serve to round that out for me. You have no need of such tonsorial disguises.

Greetings from the Holiday Inn at Santiago airport. We can’t get our room for a couple-three more hours. So we’ll chill in the lobby.

Good flight here. We both slept a bit. Premium economy is great!!

More later. Happy Firday!

Yaay for arrival and sleep! The logistically riskiest part of your journey is over.

Happy Friday!

Woke up to see more snow coming down.
No dog park, which is just sad. The dogs need to go, I need them to go.

Hopefully, the trash company will take our recycling today. They didn’t take it two weeks ago and the can is full and we have enough recycling sitting around to fill the can two more times.

This morning, I need to order groceries to pick up later. I’m going to schedule the pickup for after my Dr appointment and hope everything lines up time wise.
I have phone calls I need to make, and I hope I can get a few of those done this morning too.

Happy Travels FCM! I’m sorry for your daughter.

Off to order groceries and make some calls.

We almost had a problem at DFW. I checked in on line and got our boarding passes. When we got to the gate for the flight to Chile, no one was there. After waiting a bit, I went on line and discovered the gate had been changed! Luckily, it was from 29 to 33, so not a long walk, and as soon as we got there, our group was called.

We had bulkhead seats - tons of leg room. And being premium economy, the seats were a tad wider and the overhead bins were reserved. It was much like the one time I flew 1st class back in the 70s. And a very smooth flight!

The worst part was hiking thru the airport to customs and baggage claim. It about kicked FCD’s butt. Then there was another hike to Holiday Inn. We’re waiting for a room to be cleaned - it was a full house last night. My sweetie is snoozing next to me and I plan to read for a while. I’s tahred…

Pro tips for anyone traveling by air:

  1. Upon getting off the first airplane, check the gate display screens immediately before setting off for what you thought was your gate. Or check online as you eventually. Better yet both because once in awhile there’s a discrepancy while one or the other system catches up. It was fortunate those gates were nearby one another. Imagine you’d (and FCD) had had to endure the same trek you just finished back in another direction. It’s certainly happened.

  2. At least on AA, and I assume most other major carriers, as part of your check-in you can request flight updates via email, txt, or both. My preference is txt; IME it tends to be more timely. Once you’re subscribed, the airline’s computer will proactively notify you of delays, gate changes, the commencement of boarding, your group being called, etc. Which is useful whether it’s while making a connection or leaving home or the hotel to go to the airport.

This feature is invaluable. I can’t tell you the number of times I was sitting in the cockpit waiting to go and first learned we were cancelled or changing planes after an FA comes to the cockpit telling me half the plane is asking to get off because we’re cancelled or whatever. The pax all knew from the auto-notification feature before our operational bureaucracy got the word out to us doing the driving.

Yay for this leg of your trip going well Mooooom!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer and clothes in the wash (this week, mostly PJs :stuck_out_tongue: ). Fixing to do KP and houseirk. Groceries are already bought and the menu planned (I pulled some country ribs from the freezer to cut up for stew and will toss them in the crock Sunday with some carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms and barley…cold weather yum!), so most of the day will be messing around in the studio and keeping warm.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

When I told the Spousal Unit I was going to shovel snow yesterday, she wondered why I’d bother. She said the rain would melt it anyway. She let me go ahead and do it, since I need the exercise. Also, I knew that light, cold rain would not melt a foot of snow. And of course, it didn’t. I need to run to the bank today, and I’ll have no problem. I suspect she’s going to cancel her patient visits though.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 2c/36f outside today with no predicted change, and mostly sunny. It was just below freezing when I got here this morning so it’s warmed up a bit during the day. Weather app describes the day as “Chilly fucking bullshit.” Fair assessment, I’d say.

Moooom safe travels! Sorry to hear about daughter’s school too, that was very sudden. Also, not your problem for a couple of weeks while you’re away, she is most likely on the job hunt already and getting herself sorted out.

Wheelie glad to hear the job was good and you’re heading home, hope you get a bit of time to relax before the next one, those sound like really long shifts.

Real Fish I’m sorry to hear about all your dad’s health issues, and I understand how you feel about what’s coming. You never know exactly which way things will go, or when they’ll take a detour on a different route. Just remember that there are a lot of people here who’ve been down all those paths, know just how you are feeling, and will all be here to prop you up when things are rocky.

Nothing exciting in my day, I had to take minutes for a 2hr departmental meeting this morning which was intensely boring. Saved by the prospect of a lunch date with a friend though. That was fun. Just over an hour to go here, then I can log off for the weekend.
