(Old) Heading to the land of penguins in the MMP

Way back in the olden days when I used to fly a lot, I did this all the time. But my frequent flying days ended at least 15 years ago, and since I got my boarding pass from the internet, it had to be true, right??

Anyway, almost time to get our room. I hope. I need a shower and some clothes I haven’t been wearing for over 24 hours.

Why are you wearing a fez and what appears to be a Packers jersey???

Morning all. It’s 32F right now and supposed to stay that way into the afternoon, then the temperatures start dropping again for the weekend. So if I’m going to get out it will be in the next few hours (we’ll see, with a weekend inside coming up I’m going stir-crazy). Also have a sore throat and a little cough, hopefully that’s just from sleeping in a cool house (68F) and not anything illness-related. Have put the dishwasher items back in their proper places so that is my major activity for the morning.

Pilot offers excellent advice for any traveling you do; as one with hundreds of passenger flights through airports on 6 continents, gates can and will change so I always check the screens that are available nearly everywhere to see if there are any changes. I like Delta in Atlanta because they have all the flight connections posted right by the door as you exit.

FCM, ah, the joys of arriving early to a hotel. Take care and get FCD some rest.

Sari, hope the recycles get recycled today; have no idea when mine will be picked up. And there might be some accessory chage they hung on the water bill, but it should have been spelled out for you. Good luck. And the scripts…  :exploding_head:

Wheelie, sounds like a hard week but hopefully a profitable one. Safe travels.

OK,onward into the day. Take care all.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 36F and cloudy at the moment. More rain is coming in, so it’ll be another soggy day with temps topping out at 45F. It sure would be nice if things would dry out for a bit.

FCM, I’m glad you and the hubby made down there with little to no difficulty. I hope the rest of the trip is fantastic!

sari, I’m sorry that life just seems to be one uphill climb after another. I hope things smooth out for you.

fishy, I’m truly sorry for what you’re enduring. I know how rough it is, but I have no words of wisdom.

I had one fire drill after another at work yesterday. The day started with a bang and just kept going. I’m glad it’s over. I put out all the fires and dealt with all the other stuff. I didn’t start any of the fires, but firefighter Taters was again there with her firehose.

I’m off today, but it’ll be busy. I need to get puppy chow and some stuff from the grocery store, and later this afternoon, the pups will receive more shots. I’m also dealing with the tail end of a utilization waiver, so I need to keep my work phone with me so I can respond.

Maisie’s harness finally arrived, so now we are ready for walkies for both dogs. They get lots of exercise tearing up my backyard, but I want to take them for walks and get them used to the leash and going places. Maisie especially does not like leaving the house, so we need to get the pups used to new experiences. My seat cover and dog restraint/seat belts arrived, too, so we’re ready to load them in the car. If this setup doesn’t work, we’ll have to put the pups in the kennels in the cargo area. I looked into real crash-tested car kennels and holy schneikes; those things are EXPENSIVE. They start at $700 and go up. I can’t put them in the same kennel while traveling in case they have a spat.

I’ll figure it out; I always do. Polar and Brandi pretty much settled right down while traveling, so I didn’t have to worry, but these two pups are different, and well, they’re puppies. They’re into everything, especially Buster. Standing on his hind legs, he is tall enough to reach the edge of the table and the countertops. I am in real trouble. He is intensely curious about everything and will explore every nook and cranny. Maisie is also very curious and is just now standing on her hind legs to reach the countertop.

I know there is much more to address, but with the constant puppy interruptions, this has taken over an hour to write. I’m off to play with them some more so they’ll take the post breakfast nap.

I’m so sorry, fishy. My fingers are crossed for the best possible outcome. I wish I could give you a big hug. We’ll all be thinking about you and your dad.

My colleague’s flight is at 11:00am; mine is at 2:50pm. I figured I might as well just ride with him rather than rely on an Uber.

He wanted to get to the airport 3 hours before his flight. I usually shoot for 2 hours, but it wasn’t worth arguing. So we left the hotel at 7; the drive was faster than expected, and we arrived at the airport well before 8.

Today I learned that Southwest does not allow you to check your bags until 4 hours before your flight. So I’ve been at the airport for an hour and a half but have yet to even go through security. Fortunately, there is one restaurant pre-TSA and they serve a decent breakfast. At least I’m fed and comfortable. Still another hour and a half before I can even check my bag though.

But I’ve learned that, when traveling, bored is a hell of a lot better than stressed!

Fezzes are cool.

They are. IIRC that was doggio’s self-portrait of his New Year’s festivities. Hence the large drink and special hat.

I’m so happy it’s Friday. It’s sunny, but really cold outside. BUT, I have my new furnace installed! I’m trying hard to avoid continually jacking up the heat, but it feels delightful. Given that our furnace was nearly 20 years old, it was probably way less effective than we thought. And, of course, could’ve gassed us in our sleep at any time.

Today is full of meetings, at least until 2:30, when I’m going to drop some more of my mom’s clothes off at a local charity. I just got two invites for forced work fun, which is annoying. We’re “encouraged” to go in specifically for bagels on Tuesday and to play ping pong in the company cafeteria next Thursday, which is usually a WFH day for everyone. And we’ve all got meetings, which we’re being asked to move. To eat bagels and play ping pong. While they’re laying people off. Asshats.

Oh, well. Things that make me happy: being warm. Soeul Taco for lunch (excited for that one). Family, namely a husband & kids who are predictably insane and delightful. Weekends, 'cause even if I drag my sorry hide out of bed early tomorrow, I get quite time to commune with my coffee, which is really the whole point.

I’m sorry about your dad, fishy. And about FCM’s daughter’s school.

29F/-2C, wind chill 21/-6, and the angels are combing their hair again. Predicted high for the day is 30F; low tonight 15 before soaring to 24 tomorrow.

Lady SCAdian has been using her mother’s car the last couple of weeks. When she gets off work this afternoon she’ll swing by and pick up her mother, then go across the river to pick up her car. Then they’ll both have their own cars back and be happy again.

Not much going on here. Made a pot of chili the other day – not too bad, but I should have picked up some extra peppers to add to it. It’s supposed to keep warming up this week, so I’ll probably wait to make another batch.

We’re showered and chilling in our room. Didn’t think about power adapters, tho, so nothing can get charged till we’re on the ship. Rah.

Low battery. More tomorrow.

I went to the bank. Our street was a bit slippery, as expected. The next street, which gets more use, was very slippery with all the snow on it. In 4WD, I had to keep it down to 10 mph. The rest of the trip was fine. (At least until I got to the two roads where we live!)

One of Wifey, RN’s patients called and said that the roads are clear, but they live up a long driveway that’s covered with ice. The patient advised her not to come out. Wifey, RN called her other patient, who said the same thing; adding, ‘The driveway is like an ice skating rink.’ So no foot-nursing today. It’s just as well. If I had difficulty getting out of the neighbourhood in the Jeep, I don’t know if she could in the RAV4.

I woke up to 2-3" of new snow, which was enough for me to not be willing to take my RWD car to my co-volunteer’s 11am funeral 20 miles away – not to mention that it has yet to stop snowing (I was slightly concerned about getting there, but more concerned about getting back home). Several other executive committee members reported likewise being house-bound today. I’m sad to have missed M.'s service, but ah well. The county school board will be honoring her at their business meeting next Thursday evening (M. was active with local PTAs): the location is close to home, so I’m planning to go to that. It’ll be good to attend something for her. It’s supposed to rain for almost a week starting on Wednesday, but with temps in the upper 40s to low 50s and overnight lows above freezing. That, I can deal with.

Whether I’ll be able to go to tomorrow’s 10am personal training session remains to be seen. The snow isn’t supposed to stop until dinnertime, and I might not be up to shoveling in the dark/cold. And, of course, everything will freeze overnight. I’ll have to see what the roads are like in the morning: I could easily see cancelling on my trainer and waiting until closer to lunchtime to dig out. Bailey has an afternoon vet appointment to get her flu vaccine (they were out of it when she got her other shots in October), and worst case I’m hoping to get to that – but it could easily be rescheduled if needed. I have plans in DC tomorrow night that I really don’t want to cancel…we’ll see what the day brings.

There’s nothing much else to report from chez Misnomer. Bailey is in snow mode again, meaning she hasn’t eaten yet today and has been sleeping ever since she went out to do her business first thing this morning. I’m not in a hurry to take her back out there, but if she’s still sleeping after the meeting I’m about to head into I’ll likely wake her up and prod her to at least go pee. And I’ll see if I can get her to eat a supplement chew or something.

Definitely my motto! I would always rather have to kill a bunch of time in an airport than stress about getting through TSA in time/risk being late.

I posted the morning road conditions to the local FB group. Someone said that she drove on the road that I’d expected to be nicely compacted, but was treacherous over 10 mph, and made it halfway in her Subaru before turning around and saying ‘Nope!’ I commented that maybe I’ll try the beach road. Someone said about that: ‘Driving on Birch Bay drive is like going to Disneyland. If you get off track you’ll just get bumped right into your track.’ So it sounds better.

I was going to post something else, but I don’t remember what it was. Does anyone know what it was?

Took the spouse in to get her stitches taken out of where her tooth used to be. I think she’s decided against getting a bridge, since it’s only one tooth. It will certainly be cheaper, but the dentist also said it was a good option in her situation. She says it feels odd having that gap, but that she can live with it.

Stopped for groceries and decided to get a latte at the in-store Starbucks. I’d forgotten why I don’t go to Starbucks: their coffee is just not very good. I’ll stick with my Coffee Bros. beans.

Finally had to break out the humidifiers. The forced air heating and the frigid weather makes the apartment as dry as a popcorn fart.

my condo building has a shuttle bus, so i went into the office today. i was surprized that there was one other person in the office. i figured on being the only one.

i’ll be heading out to get the shuttle back home soon. the snow continues to fall, i figure we are around 2-3 inches now.

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got did and we brunched. The rest of the day we have been the hermit sloths that we are wont to be. Soon it shall be Netflix and chill time.

MOOOOOM glad y’all made it the first leg of your trip safe and sound.

Wheelie I agree bored at the airport is way better than stressed at the airport.

WetOne a fez and Packer’s jersey is doggio’s most formal attire. No doubt he was goin’ to a weddin’ or a fancy ball. He may or may not be wearin’ pants. He considers pants to be optional attire.

I like that Holiday Inn in Santiago. So convenient to the airport!

Wow, I made it.

I got a lot done today, if not at work, at least with my personal finances. I got rid of a bunch of subscriptions I can live without. It won’t exactly revolutionize my financial life but every bit helps.

Work is kinda logjammed because people don’t give me the things I need until the last minute. But I made the best of it. I even managed to stay off the Internet.

I talked to my Aunt, who is my best friend. She may be developing ARFID which is what we were worried Wee Weasel might have. Her diabetes medication is doing weird things to her relationship with food.

Then I shoveled the whole driveway. Spouse Weasel will be so pleased when he comes home from the grocery store.

Since I have the post-COVID thing, I am now absolutely wiped. But I’m making dinner anyway. Greek chicken, rice, steamed broccoli. Pretty much the easiest thing I could find.

I think I just have to start going to bed early from now on. I don’t really have any wiggle room in my life for this kind of fatigue other than the end of the day.

I read everything, sounds like winter is upon us all.

Um. I would not find that encouraging.
