There’s a famous saying to that effect:
Whenever I have the urge to exercise, I lie down until it passes.
Which turns out to be harder to attribute than I at first thought: Whenever I Feel the Urge to Exercise I Lie Down Until It Goes Away – Quote Investigator®.
Why do I keep imagining the thread title having something to do with herding penguins? (Or ‘pengwings’.)
When my daughter was a preschooler, her pronunciation sounded like “pink ones” - it took me a bit to translate that!
Anecdote, not data, but Nelson is a happier, better behaved dog when he regularly socializes with other pooches.
I got out with the patio broom and swept the ~150 feet of walkway to the car (the maintenance guy is snowed in), started it up, brushed it off and when I came back into the apartment, I couldn’t even see my footprints from the sweep. I have a feeling that tomorrow is another snow day at the rate that it’s coming down out there. The complex doesn’t have the place plowed with active snowfall, so even if it stops snowing now, my complex will likely not be plowed at the time that I would leave for irk.

IME (grew up in a multi-dog household, also multi-cat), dogs are social creatures and if they’re feeling lonely, it’s not good for their emotional well-being.
Howdy Y’all! I have a grrr! with my doc. I dutifully arrived twenty minutes early for my appointment only to find the place closed up tight. I finally got through to the after hours number only to be told the office is closed today. This after I was assured they would be open even after I pointed out the fact that today is a national holiday. So, no doc today, which means I shall have to call to set an appointment and be nonpolite whilst doin’ so. I am a retired grumpy old man, so I have nuttin’ but time to complain and kvetch.
I asked Wee Weasel how the recent gutting of the Voting Rights Act affected his view of social progress in the US, and he replied, “100 is an even number and a square number.”
We watched some MLK Jr. videos and then he demanded numbers (you may detect a theme) so we’re adding number blocks now.
I’m so freaking tired. I guess this is just going to happen every day in the afternoon from now on. I have to figure out how to live my life this way at least until it goes away. It’s not just fatigue but an anxiety-provoking feeling that I’m missing something, that I have to solve a puzzle and I don’t have all the pieces. I feel confused.
It was a nice morning, anyway.
Now: to go exercise or not to go exercise? This will take some serious thought. . .zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Thanks to the new CBA, I had today off. Ace managed to eat 2 of my Atari 2600 controllers while I was in the shower, and had one of the cartridges in his mouth. Beserk, appropriately enough. I did take him to the dogpark, and even brought him back. Watching afternoon hockey.
: crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages for Mom and sis to come home, and for you and FCD to go, FCM :
Holy crap, y’all. That was quite the wall o’text lecture. Sorry 'bout that.
Fighting Ignorance is our brand!
At 4:06pm it’s still snowing somewhat steadily*. So far the paved surfaces are just wet/slushy, but they’re calling for 2-4" overight so I’m sure there will be shoveling in my future. And temps will start falling soon, so the wet/slush will almost definitely be ice in the AM. I have some paw-friendly ice melt standing by.
Speaking of paws, the weather is affecting Bailey: she hasn’t been interested in eating – not even the Dasuqin and Flexadin chews she usually scarfs down – and so far has only roused herself from her dog bed once to go do some business outside. She cracks an eyelid if I leave the home office, and waits to see if I come back in a timely manner (otherwise she’d need to get up and see where I went, even though the house is small and all one level), and quickly starts snoozing again after I return to my desk chair. She’s like this on very rainy days, too. I’m sure she will grumble about the eventual transition from her dog bed to the couch…or, she might not join me out there for a while. My poor old lady.
*quadrulple alliteration ftw!
I’m officially over this working thing; luckily, I have less than 30 minutes to go. I’m not done with my proposal section but I’m done with it for today, so I’m going to switch gears and take care of something related to my day job. It’ll be one less thing I have to do in the morning, and by the time that’s done I’ll be able to log off.

I am not very bear-like but will grrrr! with you!

Try googling “bernard cumberbatch penguin” to hear how he pronounced it.
I have been fortunate to see several genuses and species of penguin in South America and Antarctica. Hoping you’ll see some from the ship! They sometimes ride the ice floes. There should be whales, too.
As for here, ice, ice, baby, with tomorrow promising more ice.

How old is he again? This seems like puppyish behavior.
Well, I did go out for a bit. The roads are covered with a snow/ice mixture and since Ali-bama doesn’t have the equipment to do anything about it (in fairness, this happens about once every 2 years so it would be silly to have an infrastructure you use 0.3% of the time). Grocery stores are open but the shelves are pretty bare (found what I needed, however) and not many customers. All the other shops and restaurants are closed, except for the gym, and I think I can spare a day or two from my exercise routine. At least the drivers that are out on the roads are taking it easy and I didn’t see any cars in ditches, so manners are being minded. Not supposed to be above freezing until Thursday so I expect that things will stay pretty quiet for the week.
Oopsie, you are right about the quiet; you don’t notice it until something (in my case a train horn) interrupts. Right now the sound of the keyboard is the only thing I can hear (heater just came on).
Cookie, take care, my cold is nowhere near your cold. Keep on bakin’.
BBBoo, much thanks for the congratulations, it just came to me (guess I have to go watch some episodes of Dr. Who now…)
swampy, appreciate your Grrrr with the doc. I have a dentist appointment on Wednesday, they usually call/e-mail me the day before, so hopefully I won’t be surprised either. And I suspect the Purple Heart pickup tomorrow just might be delayed…
OK, will do the necessary clothes folding and storage while watching some tackleball, and then think about what’s for dinner. Take care all.

about 1.
I come from the land of penguins, and did see one waddle up quite close to me once, when I was just lazing around on the beach. It then hopped up a little hillside and nestled into a spot that seemed to be its nest. That was pretty special.
Yesterday (Monday for my time zone) was my first proper day of not going to work after having quit my job. I made the decision over the break, after a thoroughly unpleasant last day where the boss screamed at me, insulted me, and blamed me for something I didn’t do, in front of the whole team. It was unacceptable behaviour after two years of similar low level toxic workplace issues building.
So that’s that. I’m taking a mental health break, and will get back into the job search properly sometime in Feb.

So yeah, still a puppy to an extent, not yet fully grown up.
My mother has been sprung!! I’m guessing the US Consular Office was able to help with the language issues. They’ll be flying home tomorrow, due in DCA around 11PM.
Tomorrow is laundry day, after which we’ll pack. I want to read over all the travel documents/info that I’ve printed out to be sure we’re set. I think it’ll happen!
It’s been snowing here for a few hours - teeny tiny flakes that ave covered the grass but the pavement is too warm so it’s melted there… so far.
OK, off to the kitchen to finish up supper.

In case you need to know this, what you described isn’t “low level” toxicity.
Any of those things, individually, is already bad enough. Throwing all of them together? Nuh-uh.
ETA: yay for FCMmom!

Sounds like an incredibly wise decision you made. Good riddance. To new beginnings! Enjoy your down time.

Wonderful news. May she recover well.
My MIL took a hard spill yesterday and got a mild concussion, messed up tooth/jaw and a few stitches. She lives in another state with SIL who was able to take care of her. Unfortunately this happened during SIL’s baby shower. Kind of put a damper on the celebration. But she is out of the hospital now and fortunately it sounds like there will be minimal long-term damage, but she may expect some dental work in the near future.
