A giant sculpture of a spirit level would be a cool thing to put in a town square somewhere.
And considering he played through 5 toys in 6 minutes, then went to to try and eat the leash, a bit ADHD as well.
Do you come from the Land of Penguins
Where commandos are armed with Sten guns?
I wish those birds would destroy my rhododendrons
Anyway, it’s cool that you met one.
Blimey. I’m from New Zealand, not Argentina.
Sten guns are English. I do see that they were made under license in Argentina though. (Hm. I wonder if I should have said ‘Stormtroopers’, be cause the stormtroopers were armed with Stens in Star Wars.)
Anyway, you try to come up with rhymes for ‘penguins’!
Nitpick: Sterlings, not Stens.
I was impressed.
DOH! You’re right.
Hi all.
swampy between weather and holidays today is just a bust for everyone.
Great penguin pix there @susan.
Congrats FCM on getting Mom sprung.
Even bigger congrats to @GuanoLad for telling the job and thereby the assholic boss from hell to bugger off.
Penguins, shmenguins. See? Easy peasy!!1!
Me too. Seriously, that one’s a toughy. I admit I had the same idea for making some custom lyrics for the same song, but I got nowhere. Bravo Flyboy.
doggio I know you love rescuing dogs, but ISTM Ace either needs a brain transplant or an address transplant.
My erranding was sorta nominal, net of not being able visit 4 places due to the holiday. three planned stops, one unplanned, and of course I bought one of the wrong thing, and it’s too small to bother returning, so Amazon will now provide the right thing in a couple of days. I really don’t want to turn into one of those folks who tries Amazon first for everything I’d normally get lcoally, but I’m sorely tempted of late.
Planning to launch out for dinner here in a few minutes. Sunset in about 15 minutes. The earliest sunsets happen in Late Nov through early Dec and we’re now sunsetting a full 20 minutes later than the worst case back then. So now that in a couple days when sunrises will also be moving earlier, we’ve got the day stretching on both ends, not just one end.
'The sun is shining! I spent the morning trying to fix the results of FedEx’s sh–I mean, cruddy service. My sister’s birthday was Saturday. I ordered chocolate-dipped strawberries for her. (Some have an extra coating of light yellow with smiley faces on them. Perfect for her.) They were to arrive Saturday. FedEx texted her Saturday to confirm. But, as is their wont, FedEx yawned and said, “Screw it. Too much work. Maybe tomorrow.” Still no delivery. Now there’s a sleet storm, and everything in northern Louisiana is shut down. FedEx is thinking maybe Wednesday…if they’re bored. I’m worried the berries would go bad, I contacted the company. They’er overnighting a new batch…via FedEx.
Mom, I’m excited for your trip. I hope you get to see lots of
Also, fingers crossed for your mom’s stomach bleeding. Hopefully the change of meds will help.
Pearl, I’m stoked, too! Will definitely check out the site
.
Oo! When is that? My forecast only goes through Friday, and it’s rain and temps in the forties at best. (My apologies to our wintery friends. I realize temps that high sound like reason enough to break out the flip-flops and let the kids play in the sprinkler.)
I’m sure she thinks you’re a fire-starting god.
The Cake Cult! All hail our dear leader, Duncan Hines! (Betty Crocker got kicked out when it was revealed she did more than poke the Pillsbury Doughboy, but I don’t think we’re supposed to know that.) Please join me in singing #43 in your hymnals, “Cake Saved my Soul, but Frosting Put a Yodel in My Tum.”

So, no doc today, which means I shall have to call to set an appointment and be nonpolite whilst doin’ so. I am a retired grumpy old man, so I have nuttin’ but time to complain and kvetch.
Not only that, but you were a retired, grumpy, HUNGRY old man!
Yay for your mom getting sprung Mooooom!
They haven’t called irk yet, but I’ve made the executive decision that it, too, will be a snow day (still coming down).
I’ve been making Valentine’s cards in the studio all afternoon and am about half finished.

I picked a bad week to stop eating sweets.
We were in the catio, and I thought I heard water running. I dreaded finding a bust pipe under our house. (It’s all PEX – or all but one, so they shouldn’t burst.) As I went round to check, I could hear that it was coming from the neighbour’s house, and water was coming out from the siding. I don’t think it had been spraying very long, as I didn’t hear it earlier in the day when I was ‘right there’ bringing in wood. I had to dig the cover off of the water vault at the street, and pry the frozen lid off with a crowbar. The ‘wrench’ end of the water meter wrench was too big for the knob, but I made it work. Then I left him a VM and sent him a text.
SWMBO told me to ‘just make something’ for dinner (but not chiles relleno, since they messed up her stomach – add another dish to the list!), so I guess it will be Trader Joe’s kebabs.

You iz good ppl.
(Translation: not many would have gone to that length of trouble.)
Well, shit. I forgot not to say any good things I do.
Well the hockey sucked, but this Old Fashioned doesn’t. the usual cheeseburger and fries tonight.

To be fair, when Gordie was this age, my friend C used to refer to him as “The Dog From Hell”. Still, I have Linux on a USB drive, I might stick it in his ear, and see if I can reboot him.

She doesn’t know if she wants dinner tonight, so… hot wings for me!
Well, we have ~8" accumulation so far (it’s stopped snowing…for now) and it’s still only 14F out. They’ve closed the plant for tomorrow, so, sleeping in. I hope that the complex is plowed tomorrow and the snowplow makes another pass at my street or I may be out Wednesday too. This is how we deal with snow in the mid-south.
Evening all. Decided since I’m stuck in the house I’d be a bit dedecant so dined on a bunch of cheesy breadsticks I had in the freezer. I’ll just say 850 calories worth and leave it at that. Neighbors dropped me a e-mail making sure I’m set, which was nice of them (they both lived in the South all their lives so I’m probably better prepared than they are, but still nice).
Clothes are all put away properly and I bought some Polo Shirts via Amazon as store shopping does not seem to be in the near future. Need to pack up things for Purple Heart, I seriously doubt that they will be here tomorrow, but at least the stuff will be ready. Otherwise a quiet evening is expected (as long the heat keeps running, it’s 17F now and heading for 10F with more snow in the forecast).
Bat Boy, there comes a time in life that you have to tell someone 'to hell with you, I quit". Apparently that moment was yesterday for you. I think in retrospect it will be the best thing you could have done for yourself. Happy life and successful job-hunting.
FCM, glad FCMM will be home before you leave. That should take some pressure off your shoulders.
Spicy, hope MIL recovers soon; falls for us ‘old folks’ are no fun at all.
Flyboy, that was a very good deed you did there; take three ‘attaboys’ out of petty cash. And after my first water leak years ago I got one of those long polls to turn off my water meter (these, don’t know if there common across the USA: https://www.homedepot.com/p/28-in-Solid-Steel-Water-Meter-Valve-Key-with-Grips-410-302-0111/311774568#overlay
red, wow, I’m 80 miles south of you and my lawn still isn’t covered by snow, so you must be in the southernmost section that’s getting hit hard. We’ll see what happens tonight. Stay warm and don’t even think about work.
And that’s all for this evening (guess a lot of folks were stuck inside, we’re nearly at 80 messages now). Catch y’all on 2sDay.

I got one of those long polls to turn off my water meter (these, don’t know if there common across the USA:
That’s what I have. Actually, I have two. One came with the house, but I didn’t know/forgot until after I got the new one.
