(Old) Hello, Mr Sandman - Dreaming in the MMP

Morning, all.

It’s 62°F and partly cloudy, although looking outside, I see lots of blue sky, too. It’s also pretty soggy and still dripping from all the rain we received. I don’t mind. The flowers, shrubs, grass, and trees are loving it. The day is supposed to be considerably cloudy, with an expected high of 75°F. Toward midweek next week, we’ll be back to clear sunny skies and temps in the mid 80s.

Red, I hope your travels are going well.

VanGo, I’m not surprised there was much fussing over Lil’ Miss Peach. She’s adorable. I’m glad that she’s healthy, too.

We used to have those Coca-Cola glasses. They all eventually broke over the years when the kids started doing the dishes. Ah, well, it is what it is. There may be one left stuck in the wayback of the cupboard.

I don’t drink out of glasses anymore, unless I’m drinking wine or a mixed drink, or maybe some iced tea. I have a metal insulated water bottle that I drink out of all day, as I mostly drink water now. And, coffee, of course. Coffee is drunk out of one of three favorite mugs.

JtC, I sort my clothes: light delicates, dark delicates, and normal for jeans and workout pants. I have less laundry now that I no longer have to wear work clothes. Plus towels and sheets. The clothes are washed in cold water, but the sheets and towels are washed in either hot or warm water. I have one set of sheets that I can’t wash in hot water. I can’t remember the last time my husband did laundry. I do remember when we first lived together that he opted to do our laundry. I had a fuschia colored blouse (hey it was the 80s) that was supposed to be handwashed because it bled. He did not know that and washed it with light colored clothing…in warm water. Everything turned a faded fuschia, but the blouse was still brightly colored. After that, he rarely did laundry at home. He washed all of his clothes together when he was an OTR trucker. I spent considerable time trying to “ungray” his clothes whenever he came home.

Nowadays, his unders are dark colors, and so are his socks. He has some white socks, but given the fact that he likes to wear socks ALL THE TIME, and wanders around without slippers, trying to get socks white is just a PITA. I mean, I sweep, vacuum, and wash my floors, but two active big dogs make it impossible to keep the floors “eat off the floor” clean daily. I sweep daily, vacuum every few days, or at least once a week, and wash every week. I’m not going to scrub floors every day; ain’t nobody got time for that falderal.

FCM, I never knew that fridges had back-up batteries. Learn something every day.

I spent yesterday sitting or lying around on the couch binging Netflix, Prime, and other streaming options. It was a rainy, wet day and just perfect for doing nothing. I earned another A++ in RDOS non-activity. Today, however, I can’t be that lazy. There is stuff to do, and I need to get it done.

You all take care of yourselves. I hope you all have a good day!

You can unlearn it - I was talking about the garage door opener. Did I say fridge?

I made a quick errand run - picked up my seizure meds and some ‘nanners and pineapple chunks, plus the root beer FCD likes was actually in stock! Then I finished the last teensy bit of painting and I scrubbed a raw water strainer from the boat. But my help is no longer needed, so I’ll amuse myself in the house after lunch, which is coming up soon.

Feel free to ignore the whining that follows:

I did an inventory of FCD’s shorts. He has about a dozen pairs that are the same size as the pants that I took to the thrift store. But he doesn’t want me to take these - no idea why. So they’re in a bag in the guest room closet till he realizes that keeping them is stoopit. Meanwhile, in his bottom drawer, there were at least 8 pairs of shorts one size down that are less huge, but still too big. I offered to take them in and I didn’t get an answer. And I don’t want to buy the next size down because his goal is 2 sizes down. He tends to buy LOTS, hence the dozen pairs, and I don’t want to spend all that money for the few months of warm weather left this year. I’d rather wait till spring and see where he is then.

He is proof that women aren’t the only ones who buy lots of clothes. Last winter he bought 2 extra heavy hoodies, and pretty much didn’t wear either one except when we did our two polar cruises. And he can’t buy one shirt - he has to buy at least 3, then he doesn’t wear them. I have half a dozen pullovers in my closet that be bought then hardly ever wore, tho now that they fit again, I think he may want them back. And let’s not go into shoes - he won’t throw any away - I bet there are a dozen pairs under his side of the bed, most of which are garbage, but “they’re good shop shoes” even tho his legs and back ache when he wears them all day. eeeeesh!

OK, I’ve whined enough to bring me to lunch time. Then, who knows??

Thank you for the laundry advice

Jolene thinks that all of the baskets belong to her. At least this one is probably big enough for them both.

You did the quote thing right, sometimes it looks funny until you reload.

I just kept buying until he hit his saturation point.

Do watch the road around them, sometimes roofers aren’t as good about cleaning up the nails as they could be.

You as well. May the late movers be the only glitch in the move!

Hubs once used my good stitching scissors for cutting tape. After I got done bitching him out, I called his mother (a quilter) and she called him and bitched him out. He’s trainable, LOL!

Replacing most windshield blades isn’t at all tricky, I’m sure you will have no problems at all.

Doesn’t FCD have one of his own? Can he walk 300 yards without assistance or resting? (Assistance includes using a cane or railing.) If the answer to that is no, he certainly is eligible for one. Just because he one, doesn’t mean he has to use it.

I don’t worry that much about his socks, he’s not at the shorts and sandals with socks stage yet so the other old women don’t judge me by them.

I don’t remember specifically why he isn’t allowed to do my laundry, I’m sure it was caused by a similar disaster.

Isn’t it great to be able to make that choice without having to call out?

It was super foggy when I got up this morning and it didn’t burn off until after 0930 so I sat on the back porch and watched the trees play with the mist. Not much besides stitching is planned for the day, we don’t usually go out on the weekends. There are too many young working people trying to crowd a week’s relaxation into a day or two and we can go out anytime during their work week that we want.

I don’t think he’s eligible, yet, but he’d refuse to even consider it because, and I quote, “I’m not a wimp!”

Woke up to a lively thunderstorm dumping a boatload of rain on us.

Decided pancakes would be a good remedy for the gloomies. I thought I’d try using White Lilly self-rising flour instead of my usual unbleached flour and baking powder. Won’t make that mistake again. You know the phrase “flat as a pancake”? Yup. Tasted fine, but resembled something between a tortilla and an arepa.

We had notions of going to the annual Polish picnic, but I think that’s going to be a no-go. Laundry is postponed for another day.

Good morning, safe travels, happy slothing, heaving, laundering, working, or whatever your Saturday brings.

I’ll be cleaning in preparation for a loooong visit from a dear friend. Her husband, also a friend, will be here the first few days. Then he’ll leave and my lovely wife will head out on a vacation, so she’ll be starting to organize her packing today.

We each have a laundry basket and are responsible for separating our own colors and delicates since we have different practices (for example, I don’t machine-dry my wool socks). There’s a separate basket for bedding, towels, and the like. I hang-dry a certain amount of my shirts and technical/REI-type clothing.

We have a new washer (no agitator! Hooray!) and dryer, and the new water heater should be installed Tuesday, so I expect my clothing to glow with good health by Wednesday.

I hang dry any wool and probably 95% percent of my blouses and tops. I also hang dry my jeans, yoga style pants, and my husband’s nicer shirts. The bonus of this, besides less wear and tear on my clothing, is that if I’ve missed a spot, it won’t have set in, and I can treat and rewash to remove the spot.

Happy Saturday morning! One of my favorite things about taking a random Friday off work is that feeling when I get to remind myself there’s more weekend left than I think.

Yesterday’s lunch with WifeBFF and her sister-in-law was great! The food was wonderful, as anticipated, and the storms held off so we did do a little shopping afterwards. I got a blouse and some pants at Chico’s (and ordered another blouse they didn’t have in my size): I’ve been needing more work clothes but I’m kind of picky – it’s especially hard to find pants that fit and that I like – so I’m quite happy with these finds! The three of us went to WifeBFF’s house and hung out talking for a couple more hours, then I finally headed back home to Bailey. I’ll see them again today, but not until dinnertime; this time, we’ll stay at the house. No one wants to cook, though, so I’ll either pick something up on my way or we’ll get something delivered.

Meanwhile, it’s time to relocate to the living room, decide what to have for lunch, and watch some TV.

I continue to send good “move” vibes to red, and I hope everyone else also has a great day!

Just out of curiosity, howcome you didn’t trade in the old car? Are you able to get more for it by selling it yourself?

The whisky? That’s my third favourite, after Lagavulin and Laphroaig.

TN, AR and TX – three of the twelve states I’ve never visited.

Currentky 74 Ferret Height/23 Centipedes; tonight’s forecast 80/27. 30% chance of rain tomorrow night, and then again on Wednesday, but that’s it for the week. RDOS all week, except for Monday when I’ll have to call for appointments with audiology and the barber shop. Don’t you wish your life were as exciting as mine?

I used to separate my laundry, but couldn’t do that on the boat so now I just throw it all in together (warm water). Sheets and blankets get washed separately, so I don’t end up with socks or skivvies wrapped up in them.

So a bunch of people called out, and a bunch of loaders were suspened. So I was bouncing between the 2 slides, loading 200 Bottom Blue, and sorting on the 100 Table. But I was still out before 11. I stopedat Teeter for a squash to go with tomorrow’s pig. Now laundry is washed, and is drying, and I’m having my pre nap gin&tonic.

Still properly alphabetized.

Mine are white, except for a couple of pairs that hitched a ride in the dryer with my work pants and a black crayon from work. So I have Holstein Underoos.

I have 30 hockey jerseys, and that a low number compare to some people I know.

“No.” - Jolene

Bless your heart, White Lilly is for biscuits

I am aware, but it would seem that it should work for other things that rise when cooking.

Yep. Dealers will lowball you. After research, it looks more like we’d get $16,000 to $17,000 for it. So Mr. brown’s out there right now cleaning up the old CR-V’s interior, and then he’ll take it to get the outside detailed. Then it goes on craigslist and maybe Nextdoor. Another thing that’s nice about Hondas is that they sell really quickly, so hopefully it goes fast and we get a nice chunk of change for it.

Shifting to food, I have four nice lamb loin chops defrosting and we’re going to have them for a late lunch with homemade rice pilaf and broccoli done in the air fryer. I’ve never made air fryer vegies, so I have my fingers crossed that it’ll come out all right.

The Spousal Unit just reported that one of the mole traps has been sprung. It must have just happened, as I just went out to get the mail about 20 minutes ago.

Back home…finally. Made it out to the field by 8:30am for the 9:00am game and no one was there…and still no one was there at 8:45am. So drove down to another field that they use for this age group and…no one was there. So drove back to the first field and got there about 9:05am and…no one was there. So gave up, went to a nearby store for a Diet Pepsi and Potato Chips and then back out for the 10:15am game and…yay! the teams were there! And so was the heat, 86F on the thermometer, hotter with some humidity in the air. Took water breaks every 6 minutes or so (the game has 4 12.5 minute quarters so halfway though each quarter) and we got through the game without any player or referee collapses…

…well, sort of. About 4 minutes in, I turned and started backpedaling to get into position, and either tripped or messed up my center of gravity or something and BAM landed flat on my back on the field. Was able to get up ok and finished the game, but my back shoulders ache some (they took the brunt of the landing) and don’t think I’ll be doing any weightlifting for a bit. Did gas up the car, getting 18.3MPG on a big old SUV (Dodge Durango) with the AC running 95% of the time, which isn’t too bad.

And then got a message that my 12th coach for the U8’s has bailed, so sent out a message asking (pleading) for volunteers and got a couple, so hopefully things will work out. But it has been an active day so far…

Top Tip for the Day: Do not use an outdoor portable toilet in 90F heat unless you really, really need to, or want to sweat off a couple pounds in record time…

And now time to play condiment time (catch-up).

I hear there is beer there…

red, nothing goes exactly as planned, glad you are on your way.

FCM, ah, nothing like mystery beeps. Enjoy the Dragon Boats (or as I read farther, don’t enjoy the Dragon Boats). As for clothes, I have 6 pairs of jeans, 4 pairs slacks, and 3 pairs of shorts. My problem is shirts, about 15 polos and 25 t-shirts, but at least I do move them around and wear them all…eventually…

boo fae, best of luck with the wiper blade replacement…for something that should be a breeze, it gives me trouble too every time.

JtC, happy relaxing.

And tomorrow looks like a laundry day for me (along with mowage), just about out of underwear and T-shirts and my towels and sheets could stand washing.

Oopsie, glad you had a great Firday with friends.

Flyboy, hope you caught a mole and not something else.

And need to get back to soccer stuff. Take care all.

Daughter said she bailed early on the race, but she didn’t know how her team did. I’m guessing they had extras to fill in. Anyway, she sent me some cute pics of the kids with their face paintings (Tobias got a ladybug and Roxy got a dragon).

My yarn was delivered and I’ve started on the first lap robe - in forest green and cream. I’m hoping to get one blanket per 4 skeins - that way I’ll be able to make at least 6 from what I bought. While crocheting, I’ve been watching an old series on BritBox - As Time Goes By - with a very young Judi Dench. It’s not bad. A bit silly but not overly - so many “comedies” strike me as bad vaudeville routines. It’ll be good to watch when I get back to treading the mill or biking in place (Moanday - for sure!!)

I just had a bowl of cereal with yogurt dumped on top. Semi-nutritious, I suppose. I’m about to make FCD bacon and eggs and toast. Breakfast for supper.

And the beep goes on…

There’s a “handwash” setting on my washing machine. I used it for anything I think is vulnerable, like brassieres. Or concert shirts; those have a tendency to to pucker around the logo if they go in a regular wash. And I mostly air-dry certain of my husband’s shirts; only put them in the dryer when they’re barely damp.

Howdy Y’all! We had quality cee-mint pond time for about three hours before decidin’ to get back to the a/c. We showered and achieved nappage. We also day drank. OYKW was semi-appalled at me for sippin’ on a bourbon and Coke Zero at ten-thirty a.m. I reminded him that one cannot day drink if one does not start in the mornin’. Plus all drinks are acceptable at the cee-mint pond.

Taters that was some master class RDOS! You earn an A++ and two gold stars!:star::star:

MOOOOOOM I used to be a shirtaholic. Then I retired. Now I could use a couple of good shirts and a couple pairs of dressy pants but I loathe the idea of havin’ to go shop. Alas, I must soon do so. I must try on pants and prefer to see what a shirt looks like in person.

JtC Jolene: “All your basket are belong to me!” Also true that about roofin’ nails. I can find any roofin’ nail within a fifty mile radius with my tires. You called hub’s mom and told on him?!?! How mean! I love it!

MetalMouse ouchie! Hope you’re not too achy tomorrow.

Moooom, is that a new minion avatar?

I’m back home from a fairly pathetic social meeting; a successful run to a garden center for a head of softneck garlic for planting out; a successful run for a couple of small bags of sphagnum so the new strawberry pot isn’t too heavy; plus two jars of Mezzetta Sweet Cherry Peppers, which are hard to find in my non-Italian burg and which can be used with fontina, prosciutto, and good olive oil to make delicious stuffed cherry peppers, even less available. I have cleaned the car interior except for vacuuming. I have crawled under the kitchen sink and determined that I haven’t the ability to loosen the faucet mount so we can grout it properly, so I shall grout it improperly. But first, I must clamber up on a chair and see if I can replace the swing bar door guard lock with one that’s the right metal.

My lovely wife has been cleaning the kitchen and has opened the Roomba to clean its spindles.

But first, I must clamber up on a chair and see if I can replace the swing bar door guard lock with one that’s the right metal.

It is done. On to the car floor vac.

One thing the Navy taught me – if it’s good for one meal, it’s good for any meal!

How are you going to survive retirement if you spend all that money on clothes? I have four pair of jeans (one blue and the others black), one pair of slacks (last worn for a job interview six years ago), zero pair of shorts, six or seven polos/henleys, and one good shirt (last worn with my slacks). And a handful of patterned t-shirts, but I wear them as undershirts. Oh, and my kilt, but I need to lose forty pounds or so before I can wear that again. :frowning:

Drinking is permissible once the sun is over the yardarm. I, for one, have a boat with a veeeery short mast.
