Hugs to those who need them. I’m going to make this brief because I have lots of work to do today. Yesterday we went to a family party for each of us. It was a lot for me. Each party was ok until it was time to leave. I HATE the part where everyone randomly feels the need to give goodbye hugs. It makes me want to sprint (as best I can) out the door. I don’t like hugging people that I barely know. And then I had to do it twice when I went to the second party. Ugh.
Today I have to really get my act together for school tomorrow. I need to arrange the course material and make sure that I know it as well. Once I publish it, students are allowed to do it on their own, so I have to have everything working correctly. I am very stressed about this since I haven’t taught either of these subjects before and haven’t taken them in fifty bazillion years.
We’re not competing in the Olympics. Most of the work is done by volunteers, either coaches or parents, and the organizers are making buckets of money on it.
Last year, we had the Japan nationals and one mothers from our club cornered the race committee chair (who is a coach in our club) and went on and on about things not under his control. We were at dinner and she must have been complaining for more than 30 minutes.
Another mother got so excited she jumped in with all her “helpful” criticisms as well. Fortunately, the other mother kept perfectly quiet, even when the two were encouraging each other.
Our coach is a volunteer, and burned a week’s worth of vacation time to do the race. If the mother has such good ideas, then sign up to help.
No prob with my wrists or hands. But if I crochet for an extended time without a stretch, I feel it in my shoulders. So I try to remember to pause and reach for the ceiling periodically. I also need to make myself get up and walk around. Otherwise, it could be 3 hours of sitting before I realize it.
I’ve pretty much always done our laundry. I separate: unders-n-socks, jeans-n-shorts, shirts, towels, sheets. I don’t worry about colors because everything is washed in cold. And these days it makes sense for me to do it all as FCD has a rough time with the stairs. If he’s around when it’s folding time, he’ll do his clothes. Generally, I just dump the basket of clean on the bed and fold from there. It’s a quick chore, and not difficult. All in all, laundry is easy, just time consuming. I’d rather do that than dust!
FCD plans to work in his shop again today. I’ll probably continue afghaning. I should probably do a quick sort of the little freezer - I’ve mostly lost track of what’s where in there. Plus it should be defrosted - I’ll bring in the cooler to hold everything while meltage proceeds. There - I have a plan! Plus my inventory will help decide what to make for supper.
We have a bit less hot weather ahead this week - upper 70s to mid 80s. That’s promising. I may futz outside a bit. Maybe. To be decided.
The sun has not quite risen, but it’s 61°F and cloudy. It’s expected to be overcast all day, with a high of 77°F. It’s also going to be humid again.
Crafterman, that doesn’t sound very good. I hope you have a quick recovery.
Metal Mouse, I hope you’re not sore today.
Shoe, sending you lots of hugs.
Well, I learned something new again; who knew you needed a license to be a chalice bearer?
I pruned a good amount of the overhanging branches from the backyard neighbor’s filbert (hazelnut) trees. I still have some to do, but it’s a great improvement. Those things grow like alien weeds and are fast and strong. I stopped for a bit, then found out my son was planning on coming up.
So, I quickly ate lunch, showered, and roll-sucked the downstairs. My son arrived around 4:30 or so, and wanted Mesican for dinner, so that’s what we did.
Not sure what the agenda holds today. Guess I’ll find out when everyone is awake.
Morning all. Did not sleep well last night, apparently sleeping on my side as usual caused my back to ache more, so ended up sleeping on my back (and then hurting to stand up and pee, which I had to do three times last night). But been up and walking about, got my NY Times and load 2 of 3 is finishing, so guess I am doing better. Couple hours until dinner at the Metro Diner and snacking on baby carrots in the meantime. It’s near 85F at 9am heading to 96F so if mowage is done it’ll be later tonight.
red, safe travels today.
JtC, enjoy the reunion and I bet your cookies are appreciated even sans recipe.
Yes, ma’am.
swampy. happy pew plopping and getting licensed to chalice.
boo fae, I have 4 laundry baskets, one for shirts, one for u’wear, one for towels and one for whatever, plus a place for stuff going to the dry cleaners. Happy slothing.
Sticky Buns, not much of a hugger either except for folks I know well. Best wishes for the school prep.
Sensei, to borrow from a SF writer, there are only two types of people; basically decent ones and SOB’s. Guess we can never get away from them.
FCM, happy inventorying and afghaning.
Taters, sore but not unbearable. Have a good day.
Aw heck, everybody have a good day. Take care all.
Scenes from a Sunday:
Me: < changes sheets and makes bed without feline interference > “SUCK IT CAT!”
30 minutes later:
Spot: < begins yeeting rubber ducks, pens, and wireless mice off of computer desk > “I WILL DEFENSTRATE THIS ENTIRE DOMICILE UNLESS I AM GIVEN ATTENTION!”
The freezer has been defrosted, dried, and it’s now re-freezing. In a little bit, I’ll reload it, and with luck it’ll be an organized reload. I have 2 bins and a basket which help me to sort - we’ll see how that goes. Then it’ll be off to the shop to cut out some gaskets for FCD. After all that, I can get back to the yarn. But at the moment, I’m lunching.
Supper will be burgers sans buns. I got some beauteous ‘maters from the local store. And we’ll have crinkle fries on the side since we’re foregoing the bread.
It took me just over 2 weeks to shed the cruise poundage and I’m back on track, about to pass yet another milestone. Healthy eating works - who knew???

Dinner + visiting with WifeBFF and her sister-in-law (“K”) was really nice. This time there were homemade banana muffins, fresh out of the oven! Woo hoo! After an on-site taste test I took a few home, and am looking forward to noshing after lunch. Dinner wound up being cheesburger sliders and tater tots…yum! HusbandBFF and my “nephew” are currently on the road, and will get back from their week-long trip to OH late tonight. I’ll see WifeBFF again on Friday evening, for her birthday, but K will go back to WV on Tuesday or Wednesday; so, we said our goodbyes last night. It was good to see her. And Piper – the 2-year-old Jack Russell Terrier – was a lot of fun to play with.
I have a ridiculous number of US states still to visit. I’m currently not traveling for pleasure, so as to avoid kenneling my geriatric and arthritic doggy any more than absolutely necessary (e.g., for family funerals), but a little while ago I bought a map of the US with stickers to put on each state I’ve been to as a visual reminder of everywhere I still want to go:
As you can see, there is still a large swath of the country (plus HI and AK) that I need to get to! I’ve got the East Coast pretty well covered, but still have most of New England to see. There’s a bunch of international travel I want to do, as well, but I think domestic travel will be my priority because I’ll be able to take shorter trips and still work remotely (if I want to).
This is the first day in a week that I don’t have to leave the house, which is fine by me! The past few days have been hot and humid, and today will be no exception: it’s already 85°F with a heat index of 91, and the expected high is 94 (“feels like” 100). A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible this afternoon, but not likely: still, somehow tomorrow and Tuesday will only hit the mid-70s…and the forecasted highs are only 78-84 for the rest of the month! I really hope some lower humidity manages to accompany those lower temps.
My only accomplishment today will be laundry. I’ve already done my clothes, including putting them away and everything. This is way earlier in the day than I usually do laundry, but in the middle of the night Bailey took advantage of all of the washable doggy pads that were throughout the house: so, I have several loads of “doggy laundry” to do and I wanted to put my stuff through the washer first. I always wash all of my clothes/towels together, in cold water, with a Shout color catcher tossed in. The doggy laundry gets done in warm water, with an OxiClean White Revive pac tossed in.
OUCH! Could you maybe put off the mowing and take it easy today?
Ooooo…I wish mine had that!
IIRC, they started as a niche company selling furniture items that were specifically designed to be used during sex (to help achieve various positions). At some point they decided to go mainstream.
Those exist?!? We need to get some around here!
OMG Capris!!! My former BFF used to smoke those exclusively. Ahhh, memories…
License? Man, y’all are strict: Catholics will let pretty much anyone be a Eucharistic minister – which includes giving out the host! – after just a chat with the pastor and some quick training. There were certificates, but no licenses that expired or anything. (At least, back in the day!)
It is under serious consideration. Had a good dinner out and then decided to splurge and got 4 cookies from a place called The Cookie Fix, which didn’t last long so now I am trying to guilt myself into going to the gym, but I have a major case of the ‘donwannas’ that I’m not in the mood to fight. Had six good days of balancing calorie intake and outgo, I can take one day off…
FCM, came back from my cruise about 7lbs over my lowest, I’ve seemed to stabilized around 202-205lbs which suits me fine.
Oopsie. sounds like you had a lot of fun..good for ya! And I’m in the same fix as you; Weather Underground says it’s 97F and feels like 115F and my third and last load of laundry is in the dryer right now.
And need to go get the sheets out of the dryer and decide if i feel like heading to the gym or not. Take care all.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and I did detention. When that was over I called OYKW who was in da cave, to see what he wanted to eat and stopped for stoner food on the way home. I ordered tots and when I got to da cave, I discovered a double order. Score! Nappage then ensued. I feel a bout of scurvy and malaria comin’ on so soon I shall medicate myself. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Tomorrow night is steak night, thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’.
As to licensin’ to be an Eucharistic minister, TEC likes to act all proper. Anyone age sixteen and up can do this. The Bishop must approve. A one page form is filled out and sent to the Diocesan office. It is always approved. The three year thing is in place so that one can decide whether or not they want to continue. Mine expires in February and will be officially renewed then, but should it expire no one will panic as long as it gets done soonest. I must be an Eucharistic minister in order to be a Verger. A Verger serves at the request of the Priest. The Bishop cares not whether there is a Verger or not, but we do make things easier for Bishops and Priests doin’ behind the scene and in the background stuff. As a Verger I am supposed to be a member of the Verger’s Guild, which I am. However no one would care if I weren’t. I maintain that mostly because I am a church nerd.
You now have more info about that than you will ever need.
Yesterday i went on a different shopping trip. Neighbours invited me to come along on their shopping trip. We left at 11, an hour later than the building trip, and crossed state lines!
we headed to cherry hill, nj; had a quick lunch ( Olive Garden) and went to… Costco! Then wegmans! Wild times. I haven’t been to either place for over a decade.
fcm, I hope you enjoy your mat. It does help with washing feet.
Crafterman, I hope you heal up quickly and easily.
After spending a good part of my life around firearms, including a career in the military, I’m pretty sure that what I heard about a half hour ago were rapid fire gunshots somewhere outside our building. The wife wanted to go look out the window, but I discouraged her from doing so.
Hubs came down with cellulitis and now wears rather costly compression socks. Heat is the enemy of elastic and spandix so he started picking through his laundry to pull out the socks after the load was washed so they wouldn’t end up in the dryer. I pointed out the laundry bags I always kept with the laundry supplies and it was like a lightbulb went off over his head. Now he has a laundry bag next to his basket for his socks.
And those sort of women will be the reason the coach quits volunteering.
You need to do that on a regular basis anyhow. Sitting for hours on end is really not good for your body.
Thank you, people went back for seconds. That tells me that they really liked them because there were so many other options available.
The reunion was nice, they always try to explain/include me in family jokes. The mountain dogs didn’t come because cousin had a staffing problem so had to be there Monday morning to open her grooming parlor. She was going to eat lunch and then get into her car and drive 350 miles back home and hope to get there in time to get some sleep before work.
Here’s hoping the bullets all stayed outside the building as well.
I cleaned. I dusted. I changed Spot’s litter, took out the trash and reccling. I Youtubed, and even took a brief nap. Now I’m having the usual Wisconsin Old Fashioned, with poke loin, baked **N.O.T.*, and roast squash with tomato, onion, and Hatch Chilies.
Yeah, when the neighbors were shooting at each other in Da Hood, I stayed low for a bit.
Delicate setting, maybe?

Evening all. Had a burst of energy and did get to the gym for a little while andthen performed mowage when it cooled down to 82F…at least it is done and the clippings (7 30-gallon bags worth) are at the curb for pickup tomorrow. Back has been dong better, it doesn’t object to me picking up heavy stuff, but when I take a quick breath to could my lower back tells me it doesn’t like that very much. Hopefully will get a good night’s sleep this evening.
Swampy, your mention of being a Verger finally made me remember a short story I once read called “The Verger” and wonder of wonders, it’s on the web. Written by Somerset Maugham, it’s set in England but it’s an enjoyable 6 pages of reading if you never encountered it…https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/sites/teacheng/files/Maugham_The_Verger_0.pdf
rocky, sounds like a fun day out.
Cookie, stay safe. And sticking your head outside in those situations is not a good idea.
JtC, no dogs? Why even bother?
And after 9:30pm so I’ll be retiring to my bed shortly and hopefully will sleep better than last night. Take care and I’ll catch y’all on the next MMP.
May have fixed a cabinet, a pantry door, and the faucet. Planted out garlic and transplanted strawberries. Dumped the summer kale. Weeded. Made quick pickles and roasted vegetables. Cleaned. Made up a bed. Turned a mattress. Washed bedding. Dusted. Organized. Didn’t leave the house. More tomorrow.
