(Old) Here It Is! The MMP

I associate hot cross buns with lent more than Easter. I also haven’t had one since probably the 80s (maybe early 90s).

Today is first day at University #2 (I’m not sure why I’m coy about naming them: University #1 is Washington University, and University #2 is Saint Louis University). Syllabus review and getting-to-know-you stuff. Then rehearsal tonight. Nothing else really going on.

They put me on 200 Bottom White today. 900 some pieces on the set, and several bulk load sized no bulk loads. At least there weren’t any 100+lbs irregs like usual.
This was taped in one of the cages on the 100 Boxline:

I came home and played ice cube hockey with Spot for a bit. Now its time for the pre-game nap.

Glad you made it.

And somebody has been ordering King Cakes since mid December.

Taters, a bike ride sounds like a good reward for having to adult.

Spike is in the backyard, “testing” his new rock hammer. He let me try, and after splitting a bit of limestone, I have to get me one of those.

I miss hiking around with my rock hammer, so much fun!

So the excitement never ends here. The cat sitter lives in a manufactured home next door. Their backyard is fenced. Their neighbor’s driveway goes between their houses. This morning, about ten minutes ago to be exact. The neighbor missed the driveway and ran into the cat sitters fence and took out some of the skirting. The home looks intact from the outside, I’m not going to go over and get involved, they have way too much going on now.

Good morning, all. Today is my eldest sister’s birthday. She’s definitely been a gift.

Re: my daughter, she is looking for an attorney. I have a little money I saved up for moving that I’ll use for that, as being out of work, she can’t afford one. She cried when I told her I’d do this, as she’d been feeling trapped in that hell because of this. We had another long talk last night, and I told her she really needs to work out a property settlement with her STBX, as a contested divorce can cost tens of thousands of dollars, which is more than I have AND, just as important, they don’t have property worth that much. Nevertheless, I’m encouraging her to find a barracuda, as I want to ensure STBX’s debt doesn’t become hers.

Speaking of whom, he’s still home some of the time and acting like a roommate and not mentioning the whole situation. She said she said something about if she left him, and he looked startled, as if he hadn’t considered that she wouldn’t be a people-pleasing dormouse who’d live on the hope he might come back to her.

Thank you again for the support, hugs, and well-wishes. They really are a huge help, especially since I don’t have clearance to tell family yet.

I got a call from the eye clinic this morning. The corneal specialist wants to see me this afternoon. It usually takes months to get in. I guess the special optometrist told him about the contact lens not fitting because of the slow-growing bulge on my cornea (the keratoconus). Dagnabbit. I’M not worried about it, and I’m sure this is just a precaution, but all those eye surgeries have me dreading a 5th corneal transplant, which is what we’d be looking at, so he’d better not go there.

Tomorrow I have Ms. Dog all day. Thursday I have an audiologist appointment–no issues but haven’t had a hearing test in years, so doc referred me. That night I’m going upstairs to meet the cat I’ll be caring for in a few weeks, and Friday my pal with the etsy business is coming to get my boxes and catch up. I have to schedule a hair chop, and Max’s mom want to come over. When do I get to be an RDOS again?

What silly whining. Once upon a time I did all that stuff AND worked full-time.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. It sounds like he got what he deserved. I foresee something similar happening to daughter’s STBX. I don’t wish hard times on him, exactly, but he’s refused to face the economic reality of what he’s facing AND what he’s doing to my daughter, so he’s earned whatever’s coming to him.

This is a thing? I’ve never seen this. Do you make your own? The breakfast sounds wonderful.

You must be psychic! My mom used to say this all the time, so my daughter got this as a tattoo two years ago. She said just yesterday that that very line is getting her through this. Thanks much!

FCM, sounds like a miserable night. Bet you’ll sleep well tonight after wrangling the grands!

So much more to respond to, but I’d better get moving. Big hugs!

Is he studying geology? I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries about geology and tectonic plates and such, and I’ve noticed that every geologist has a hammer, and many wear a little magnifier to study samples in the field.

Back from taking a big bag of FCD’s too big shirts to the thrift store. Someone is going to score big! I also got him a pair of next-size-down jeans plus a polo shirt that I just liked. Nothing for me, tho - I don’t need any clothes.

On the way out of our drive, I stopped and grabbed yesterday’s mail (which I couldn’t be bothered to mess with yesterday.) There was a big envelope from MN, and all I could think was Cookie doesn’t know my address… And I was right.

It was from someone who was in the high school a capella choir the year we went to Rome for a choral competition. Our choir leader died last year, and his wife was going thru his old papers. He had asked us to write our impressions, etc, of the trip and he’d held on to them since 1972. Mine has been returned to me, along with some copies of photos, both formal choir pictures as well as several snapshots from the trip.

As background, we weren’t a wealthy community, so we had to raise the $30K to send the whole choir. My dad volunteered to lead the fund-raising effort, and in something like 10 weeks, we reached our goal. We sang and passed the hat. We held car-washes. We had a spaghetti dinner. There was a battle-of-the-bands dance. I’m sure there were other things I don’t recall. But we did it!! We even did a program on a local TV station to shill for cash!

What a blast from the past!! I confess, I had a difficult time picking myself out of the group photos, tho I seem to be consistently in the second row about 4 from the right. I always knew my friend Mary, as she was nearly 6’ tall, so always in the back. I looked over all the faces, and while I was able to put names to some, most are lost to history.

I did pick out Amy B, who didn’t get to go. Her dad insisted he should be one of the chaperones, but he wasn’t chosen. (He was a bit of an ass.) So as a true, mature adult, he forbade his daughter to go. I felt bad for Amy - she was such a nice girl.

I’m assuming the person who sent me the package was a girl in the choir because I looked up the last name in our yearbook and it didn’t come up. I am curious as to how they tracked me down, but I suspect Mary may have had to do with that, since she hasn’t married and still lives in pretty much the same neighborhood. I’ll have to ask her.

Anyway, a real surprise! I may scan and post pics. Or not. I’m just a blurry face in a crowd.

Here ya go. I like to add some to melted butter for my popcorn, also.

He is. He wants to go into vulcanology. My father gave him a rock hammer engraved with his initials for Christmas.

That is very cool! Geology fascinates me, even tho I never considered pursuing it. And volcanoes are equally fascinating, if terrifying…

Currently wrangling the grands. Two anna half hours till bedtime. Will I make it?

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Then we went into RDOS mode. We napped, day drank, watched stoopid teevee and fixed and et sup. All in all a good grumpy old men day.

Daughter and SIL are on their way. With luck, I’ll be out of here in less than 2 hours. The kids are way too wound up…

Hubs is turning back into a grumpy old man, I’m so happy he’s feeling well enough to grump.

What an amazing gift, I’ll bet he treasures it for the rest of his life!

What a thoughtful thing to do! That’s very cool of her to go through all that bother without being asked.

The words are silent but very NSFW or Children.

It is horrible that you have to give her your moving money, I know you need to get out of there in six months. (I can probably chip in a few bucks when the time comes, if I haven’t been disappeared before that.)

Your people are alive and well!

I hope you had a great ride!

So, the happenings next door were exciting but have settled down now (our cat sitter was beside herself, she didn’t get home from school until about ten minutes after everything was over). The next-next door neighbor accidentally put their car into Drive instead of Reverse and hit the gas to get over the lump in the dirt.

She wasn’t hurt. Neighbors were not hurt. Two fences are critical and the home’s skirting were dinged and pushed over, but the home itself was untouched.

I talked to neighbor about cat sitter and my concerns about letting her spend the day here instead of doing her chores at home. She said that her daughter was 15 years old and going through puberty. Sometimes they both needed a little space but did remind me that cat sitter would never be allowed to miss school to hang out with the fuzz butts. That’s OK, I wouldn’t allow it anyhow.

I just finished addressing a post card to a school. That’s something else that I enjoy on the other website, parents begging folks to send postcards from each state or specific states to class rooms. There is a pizza party hanging on my post card so I took it out to the box this morning!

And a good early evening all. Went to both Credit Union and Bank and have two brand-spanking new CD’s to my name. Won’t get rich this way, but it will be more remunerative than just collecting what they laughably call interest. Then bought some light bulbs for my grand room overhead fan/light, it hasn’t been working for the past several days and getting the lights out they appear to have all burned out. Then over to the gym for a couple hours before coming home and installing the new lights…which still do not work. Will have another go at it tomorrow and if I can’t get it to function I’ll get an electrician in, have a couple of other minor problems so will try to get them all solved at once. 52F heading down to 41F so not too bad, a bit cooler and wetter tomorrow according to the weather wizards.

And now condiment time (catch-up) with all the other Mumpers…

FCM, should have you negotiate my Sirius/XM rates for me, getting bombarded with promotions and such from them lately in my e-mail.

Maus, yay! for Chole and her friend meeting up. And never had a rock hammer, but they do sound pretty cool.

Herald, I’ll keep my eye open for hot cross buns this Easter.

Taters, hope the adultin’ went OK.

cookie, no arguments from me, but a 12-month CD is pretty safe and will make a little more than standard interest. And pretty much out of the market too, have a small money market account and the rest in pretty safe investments/annuities.

Pavo, used to live in the St. Louis area, at least the two schools are relatively close to each other, hope things go as planned.

doggio, thanks for the grin; at least someone has a sense of humor about their shipping…and now you can say “We have a T-Rex…”

nellie, best wishes to daughter, sounds like she is grounded in reality even if STBX (I figured that out all by myself!!) may not be. Hope the eye doc appointment went OK.

FCM, sounds like you got some good memories from that envelope, and it is nice to remember things like that…and Boo! (not our Boo) on Amy B’s dad, I hope he had a case of hemorrhoids for a whole year after that. Hope you made it through the last 42 minutes…

JtC, just glad no one was hurt, but running into a house will get one talked about in the neighborhood… Never been asked to send a postcard to a school, but probably would react favorably if anyone needs one from Ali-bama…

And that’s all for now, need to get back to mindless entertainment and such, so take care all.

No quarrel with CDs. We put all the proceeds of our house sale into CDs, where they’re earning us some decent money (for a bank instrument).

And family. That poor woman will never live this down. “Watch out for that fence, Wilma, ya don’t wanna get too close!

I mistyped about the postcard, it went out to the mailbox this evening. The other website has state forums so of course I signed up for WV. We got requests from classrooms this time last year as well, third grade which makes me think they are teaching about states this semester.

So the night is winding down, Hubs is walking unassisted again. He’s still gimpy but can stand and do things again. The fuzzbutts are already in bed, I put a plush blanket on Hub’s side a few days ago and they are loving it. He is over the fever now so tomorrow it will get washed and put in the closet when I change the sheets.

I’m stitching, but not happy with the work now. The designer has certain stitches pointing in different directions than the ones next to them which makes my brain twitch and I keep trying to correct it. Her way will use the light how she designed, my way is instinct by now.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan and Redneck stirfry. Watching hockey.

Nothing quite like getting hammered with your kid.

That’s the most important bit.

Nobody does passive aggressive graffiti better than Brown.

So today went even kerfooflier. (Not a word, but who cares?) I was amazed to hear from the pain management doc, himself. He said I have a lot of progressive spinal damage already. This will not improve. But he recommended a minimally invasive procedure called Intracept. Anyone familiar? Basically they kill off a nerve, which kills the pain. It works, at least to some extent, for the vast majority kof patients. The only problem is it’d be several months out, as they’re so booked. In the meantime, there’s nothing I can do. At least there’s probable relief!

The bus ride was…interesting. This guy–call him #1–and the bus driver were talking about a program for recovering addicts like #1. This woman said the program was getting cut because cops and EMT’s hated “wasting their time” with “freeloaders like you.” #1 was patient, but when she got insulting, he asked her not to talk to him any more. About then I really wished I had Jane’s cane. #1 moved to the seat next to me. I said I was sorry he had to contend with her. He said, meh, he thought of her as free entertainment. Then he got off the bus.

A man–#2-- got on with a lot of stuff. He put it on seats and held on to the straps. The woman griped about all his stuff. #2 was nice at first, but when she wouldn’t stop, he said, “Jesus, lady, whaddya want me to do?” She went ballistic, screaming and ranting. The bus driver threw her off the bus.

Anyway, the eye doctor said the test from last week shows the keratoconus has progressed, and I need another transplant. I’m disappointed but am glad he said I might have 6 months or more before I have to do it. I’m not going to lie: it’s hellacious surgery (This would be transplant #5 but only the second one in the right eye.) Last time I had one, I told my siblings to shoot me if I ever said I was doing it again. However, maybe this time will be easier.

On your bodies?

That is SO. COOL. What a fascinating field!

Yum! Thanks! The reviewers are swooning, always a good sign.

FCM, what a thrill to go to Rome as a teen! How’d your choir do in the competition?

Nearly 11pm here and as soon as I hit reply the computer goes off and I go to bed, but wanted to get a late-night final in…not that I have done a bloody thing since my last post, but still…

JtC, what website do you go to to go to the state forums for this postcard thingie…I am a little intrigued…

nellie, ah, nothing like free entertainment on the bus ride. And I hope the doc can do something about the pain, my mom had pretty constant pain the last 10-12 years of her life and it wasn’t a pleasant sight. As for the eye…I guess the best I can say is at least they can do something about it, even if it is a tough surgery.

And that’s all for 2sDay here, folks; catch up with all y’all tomorrow.

Ah, nellie, it never seems to end.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

especially when your favorite child game was “The floor is lava!”
