(Old) How often do you change passwords - a secure MMP

I fell asleep on the late side last night and must have been more tired from the week than I realized, because I didn’t wake up until amost 8:30am – which used to be early for me, but these days is truly sleeping in! The upside is that I feel great, but the downside is that it’s already after 1pm and I’m just now getting to the MMP. But I’ve taken care of all of my personal administrivia, including paying my bills because Thursday was payday, so after this post I can shower, head downstairs, and decide what to have for lunch.

I also need to decide where to have lunch. On most Saturdays I’d have a Lego set to work on while eating, but today I want to catch up on some of my magazine reading: I could do so in the TV room, or try hanging out on the deck. It’s only 80° right now (and won’t get much warmer) so the latter is appealing, but would require wiping down the table and a chair. I think I’ll go ahead and clean them, then decide if I want to bring lunch out there.

I get to have dinner with my BFFs and my “nephew”! He’s 24 but still in college, and is currently on summer break: he flew in from TX on Thursday night, and will be here for a couple of weeks. He and his dad (HusbandBFF) have a long tradition of spending a week at a family friend’s farm in OH every summer, which is why he’s here; they’ll hit the road either tomorrow or Monday morning. WifeBFF hasn’t been able to go for several years due to health and mobility issues, but her oldest friend is flying up from FL tomorrow and will stay with her all week. Anyway, I was invited over for dinner this evening; it will be good to see everyone.

I got distracted by looking for a few things on Amazon and now it’s after 2pm! No wonder I’m hungry! Time to take a quick shower, then head downstairs.

I dated a hardcore OSU football fan for two years (and lived with him for one of those years): it was nearly two decades ago now, but that stuff got etched into my brain. I still remember the songs/chants, and still mentally add o-h-i-o whenever I hear “Hang On, Sloopy.” If I ever date a Michigan fan I might experience some cognitive dissonance for the first season… :joy:

Because driving the 27 miles to the nearest Waffle House is exactly the same as being entertained by shoe’s online tales of work drama…?

It’s from the Pictionary episode:

There’s a second whiteboard, behind the DNA tower, which is science-y:

There are definitely some cute elements that are meaningful to fans (the whiteboards, a tiny Green Lantern lantern, etc.).

When I hit the pothole that did quite a bit of damage to my undercarriage, the dealership was going to charge me a fee for using my debit card. I, too, used Zelle. Saved me $100.

It seemed the Screwup Fairy had taken the day off untill 0800:
Sup: “Easy day for you,huh?”
Me: "Well, now you’ve doomed me.
And sure enough, at 100 the sups started bringing me carts of damages, rewraps, and reshcdules, Sorcerer’s Apprentice style

I got out at 1:00. Spot was slightly irked. But he got attention, he smacked me, and now he’s in Roomie’s room either snoozing or watching vermin. But laundry is tumbling in the dryer, I’ve had my bacon and eggs, and am enjoying my prenaptime gin&tonic.

That’s a rather ungainly shape for your TARDIS.

Well they have Poor People Teeters(Think Food Lion with higher prices), and Rich People Teeters(nicer floors, music, and Starbucks).

I’m used to it from player introductions when watching handegg:
“Higgs Boson, Nose guard, The Ohio State University
“Zebulon Oxendine, Safety, Lizard Lick Community College”

A splendid day! We started off at 52Ferrets and have a forecast high of a mere 76F. I closed up the house when temperatures rose to 64F, so the A/C will get the day off, I think.

Well, I’ll be hornswoggled. I had no idea some enterprising Oregonians were profiting off the bounty, but it makes sense. High dollar commodity all for the taking, so long as they can figure out how to ship the delicate things. I never did. I tried a couple times to send truffles to friends packed as recommended in Arborio rice, but they always spoiled by the time they arrived.

They are really looking forward to it and promise to share their spoils. I hope they are successful! I wish you had a serious co-forager to go with, but I’m glad you don’t go alone. I will also hope for improvement for your left eye. Have fun with the Fam and revel in the doggie extravaganza!

Just let me know whenever you may be in the neighborhood, and the offer stands for you as well. Or any other Mumper passing through.

Welcome home to Mrs. Magill, Maggie!

Honestly, that’s my ulterior motive. I make them, get to enjoy one and one only, then send the rest off with the guests or tradesfolk.

Good work, fly boy. In related news, this was a disturbing story in our local news yesterday:

Stay safe!

Did some cleanup in the woodshed while it was early and cool, but more needs to be done. At least it’s a start.

Pond Guy and I exchanged emails to finalize our plans. He likes the material for plugging leaks I shared with him. We’ll see how long shipping for that is going to take. Expensive stuff, so I hope it works.

Then it was on to carving up and packaging the half-haunch of ham I brought home a couple days ago. And that necessitated putting a big batch of ham and bean soup on the boil. When it’s finished, I’ll still need to portion it out and find room in the freezers.

Ollie had a good romp this morning and is now snoozing under a throw. Me, I’m ready for some weekend relaxation, but I’ll probably go give the kitchen a good scrub instead.

Happy Saturday to everyone!

Turns out the sore throat and cough was not smoke related but an actual cold. I spiked a fever weds. night. Texted boss and coworkers that I would be out sick Thurs. dozed and slept through Thursday. Then… intestinal distress happened early Thursday evening. This made coughing, sneezing, and nose clearing very fraught. Texted out Friday as well. Things are finally settling down now.

I was able to go on the shopping trip today. I bought the betta fish I saw last week. He has koi fish colouring. He does look like he has a gill injury. Koritza was very interested in the acclimating. She is watching the tank now. The new guy is happy with the tank and getting along well with the Pygmy corys and snail.

I await the next chapter of “how the pizza turns”.

I hope your left eye settles down soon taters.

Afternoon all. Spent more time and burned more calories than I planned at the gym, so came home for a second breakfast (pancakes) and will eat a late dinner. Still haven’t decided on the Main Sunday meal (on my schedule this is “My Choice” weekend). That usually means 5 Guys or Krispy Kreme, but did 5 Guys a couple of times while on vacation and don’t know if I’m in the mood for KK. Thinking about Chili’s, haven’t been there in a long while and might give their Sirloin dinner a try. Decisions, decisions…

Flyboy, happy protesting.

CatGlove, sounds like a glitch in the Matrix; hope manager can get it straightened out.

Oopsie, hope you made a decision about where to have lunch and didn’t starve…Enjoy dinner with the BFF-family.

doggio, Murphy lives for comments like your Supervisor’s…

rocky, feel better soon. And hope the new fish works out well.

And that’s all for now. Back later to report on nothing in particular, I hope.

Considering that the No Kings rallies had thousands of people, ICE Out Whatcom was disappointingly tiny. I didn’t count, but there were maybe 150 people there. :frowning: There are some photos on Johnny LA’s Farcebook page.

This caught my eye:

While at the hospital, the person began receiving text messages from a phone number claiming to represent a law firm offering legal help related to the incident. The messages came from phone number 971-502-5548.

Uh-huh.

Question for shoe or anyone else who’s had a similar job. To protect against large bogus orders, would it make sense to require that orders over $XX dollars require a valid credit card to guarantee the order? Surely that would take care of the place-a-huge-order-to-screw-with-the-restaurant crowd, wouldn’t it? Or is it a rare enough occurrence that it’s not worth the bother?

Daughter rescheduled for tomorrow. I’ve been watching various documentaries while crocheting. Not a lot of motivation. In fact, I’m about to head back to my recliner and take hook in hand!

As an FYI, it is illegal to charge a customer a fee to use their debit card.

We do that later in the night, but frankly, it’s a PITA.

A really huge order (like, hundreds of dollars) we do ask for payment up front. If they say, “Oh, I’ll pay cash when I get there” we sweetly say, “Okay, we’ll start making the order once it’s paid up.”

The prospect of waiting another twenty minutes often makes a credit card magically appear.

I think the official wording is that it’s a discount for cash. But I ain’t no lawyer.

Heh, nice reference.

However, it’s his day off. Sorry to disappoint!

As Shoe said, a discount for cash is not exactly a card fee, even though IRL it’s the same thing. The vendor gets his money right now, which is sometimes a big deal for a business.

I don’t know what this means.

Well, I didn’t think it was right for two Mumpers to be on vacation at the same time so doggio week after next is all yours. :face_with_tongue:
Actually when I went on VRBO, I couldn’t find a cottage anywhere in the Mitten near Lake Michigan from Muskegon south to South Haven. So, I changed my dates to 2 wks later and found a number of places that would work. I let daughter make the choice. We’ll be near Grand Haven. So person who lives in the vicinity, perhaps we can meet up at some point. Perhaps you could come down and have dinner with us on that Monday.

I’m now starting an excel workbook with sheets for menus, food to bring, items to bring, things to do in the area.

Hubs went to a concert to see Jack White with one of his buds so I’m footloose and fancy free. Its nice to have some quiet uninterrupted time.

A person is assaulted by ‘government agents’. Then his phone blows up with texts from a ‘law firm’ offering legal help. So conspirators have gangsters to pose as U.S. agents, ‘Agents’ assault a victim. ‘Law firm’ contacts the victim, offering ‘legal advice’ (i.e., sue the government for damages). ‘Law firm’ collects fees as they ‘compile their case’. Once they’ve sucked as much money as they can from the victim, they disappear. Do this to as many victims as possible.

At least, that’s the hypothesis my suspicious mind came up with.

Thanks flyboy.

:+1: Happy to oblige.

The slow-cooker smothered pork chops (my first attempt at smothered pork chops) were a success. I also made mashed Yukon Gold potatoes with salted butter and heavy cream (and a pinch of kosher salt).

I made Mrs Magill one of her favorites, split pea soup. The boys were at their respective jobs, so it was just us two. We were going to get ice cream after, but were too full.

Sounds delish.

Did something a bit different with burgers yesterday. Why it took me so long to figure out making burger patties with Lipton beefy onion soup mix added to the meat (1 envelope for 2 lbs meat seems about right) is beyond me, but it worked quite well, even for my pet picky eater.

Super easy.

So many of the things I cook, are very simple. But I’ll take the props.

I don’t know if it was yesterday, or today (probably the former), but there was a raccoon in the catio eating the cats’ food. Catmom chased it away. A couple of minutes ago, the same raccoon was back. There was no food in the catio, but Abbey was out there. I went out as quickly as my arthritic knee would allow, and chased it away. When it walked on the crossbeam, I reached for a three-cell MagLite in case I had to ‘encourage’ it. It went down the next upright. Abbey had been in a chair, and the raccoon was headed toward the ottoman when I sighted it. Jimothy being a semi-local icon notwithstanding, raccoons are not allowed in the catio. We will need to be extra-vigilant.
