(Old) I think I MAY start the MMP

I’m glad I had some background context for that one.

Rescheduled for next week. I haz a very unhappy about it.

Taking a break to put on a bandaid because I can’t possibly work in the yard without drawing blood. Dammit. But I’ve cleared all the gravel and plastic away from the future flower bed, and I’ve put down landscape cloth after roughing in the edging strip. Next I’ll set in the edging with gravel on both sides, tho just a narrow band on the flower bed side. Then I need to dig the topsoil out of my former raised beds and spread it in the flower bed, followed by a thick layer of mulch. I think that’s today’s goal. I don’t know if I’ve got enough energy to transplant much. I will erect and place the trellis for the native clematis. I can’t leave it on the ground like it is.

Even tho it’s a lot of work, I do prefer doing it myself. I don’t have to worry about FCD overdoing it or trying to offer suggestions. I know how I want this to go.

I called the chimney cleaners and I’m set up to have both inserts and chimneys cleaned on June 9. And we may or may not get a new blower for the pellet stove. Regardless, it ain’t a cheap service call, but it’d be about $300 more if I schedule it later in the summer. And even more if I neglected it and had a chimney fire.

I pulled a hunk of ham out of the freezer for supper. Maybe I’ll make the scalloped ham-and-potato casserole for supper - well, a small version. I don’t mind leftovers, but that casserole is so big, it’d make at least 3 meals for us, and that’s too much for me (since FCD isn’t much for eating the same meal twice in a week.) I can scale it down.

OK, I’ve finished my sugar free Fanta Orange - guess I should get back to work. It’s sunny and not hot, so that helps. If I sit much longer, I won’t want to get up, even out of this rather uncomfortable chair. Onward!

In addition to all the vacations, K the former Twilight clerk called out. TPTB didn’t have enough staff for the Mez, so they dumped all the corrections on me and J on the 300. Which did manage to get done, helped by the late Air, so they kept the belts running longer. Damages and overgoods weren’t too bad. Jim the one driver who does the in building mail was out too, so I had to do the Mail Innovation drop off by the one vehicle door. I stopped and grabbed milk for tomorrow from Teeter. I walked up to the sidewalk where the idiot hit the guardrail Monday night. As loud as the crash was, it didn’t even dent the rail.

John Deere is spinning in his grave.

Hope the eye heals up quick, Taters.

Sounds like something out of detective pulp fiction.

Did WFH today, with a little bit of invigilating in the afternoon.

I did too actually do some work, despite the clear temptation to go play with the plants during the sunny spells. I only did that a little bit during the breaks and pacing up and down episodes, when a little watering happened (my vegetables are definitely for me, not for Trent Reznor, though I’ve got some spare tomato plants if he wants 'em). I actually moved a chair into the tunnel, and it does get the house wifi, so I could actually work from there if I really wanted.

The sunny spells were interspersed with brief downpours- some with just a hint of hail in there. It made it a somewhat irritating trip into town for the invigilating, as there were multiple sets of roadworks meaning diversions and road closures, so I had to park much further away than normal and promptly got soaked walking to the uni. Only one more exam to invigilate, next week.

Sitting in the Doctor’s waiting room, have just finished filling out the Medicare information and they have updated it to add more stuff than I recall from the last time. Looking forward to getting this over with, my fasting is getting to be a bit of an annoyance. Still, gives me something to look forward to.

I quit, I think. By my reckoning, I’ve done 2.5-3 hours of digging and stuff. And I got to thinking - the years between ages 20 and 40 don’t affect one nearly as much as the decades between 50 and 70. I should have been able to get more done, but I’m whipped! And (here’s a good excuse) it’s supposed to rain tomorrow and I expect that will show me where I need more dirt. Right?

I was going to mulch, too, but I think I should do the transplanting first. So I need to decide what will go in the new bed. That’s a public FB link for those who can’t see this:
Imgur
I had a heck of a time threading the clematis in the trellis - it had been stretched across the old deck railing, so there’s lots of vineage there. Methinks I need a bigger trellis.

And I stuck the liriope in there because it was in the way of the dirt I was digging up. I may move it. Or not. We’ll see. I was thinking I should edge the entire bed with liriope - after everything else is planted, of course. Still cogitating on that. And I’m thinking maybe a crape myrtle at the far end…

I’m also thinking I don’t want to cook supper. Maybe I’ll get some motivation eventually?

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got done and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. OYKW wanted to go to Asia hog trough Buffet for lunch, so we did. That, of course, called for large nappage afterwards. It’s rained off and on all day and is cool here. Only 66 ferret heights and that was the daily high!

Knotty NIN = Neighbors In Need. It’s a local Catlick food pantry that we support. It also has a soup kitchen that operates six days a week. OYKW and I donate foodstuffs and money on a regular basis. The nuns love us!

Taters sorry about the eye problem. Hope the meds and compresses take care of it soonest. Good to know your mom is now in the SNF. Hope you can find some suitable clothin’ at your mom’s house so you don’t have to go to :astonished_face:Wally*World.

Lily glad you have a friend to look after you. Have fun watchin’ the birdies!

FlyBoy how cool! Too bad Catmom didn’t have her phone.

Molly perhaps Squeaky could give a Vogon poetry readin’ while dustin’ the livin’ room furniture.

red here’s hopin’ for the best for your neighbor.

MetalMouse hope the doc declares you are still alive.

WetOne I am shocked! That poor doll is just sittin’ there in nuttin’ but her drawers. How embarrassed she must feel!

shoe I would have an unhappy about that as well. I would also have, politely, but firmly, expressed my displeasure at havin’ wasted a day waitin’ and strongly suggested that I be given top priority next week.

MOOOOOOM IMO, I think tonight would be a good time for you to order pizza. You did enough for one day.

Waves at everyone. It has been a day full of nothing.

Hubs went for a ride and I thought I was going to get a bone density scan, but got a call that they were having technical issues and someone would call me to reschedule. It wouldn’t have been nearly as annoying if I hadn’t already added bra and shoes while dressing. I couldn’t think of any reason to go out anyhow so have been stitching and smoking.

I’m going to have to give up smoking da bud when I have my shoulder surgery but am thinking that will be OK. Vaping is much more acceptable than smoking nowadays and vaping THC isn’t any harder on my lungs than smoking. I’m learning that the flavor profile is much more predictable with vaping than smoking so that’s a good thing as well.

While Hubs was out, he went to the distillery and bought me a bottle of watermelon infused shine. Its good stuff fer sipping on a warm spring afternoon. He also remembered how much I liked the Asagio cheese rolls from Aldi and stopped and bought three bags because I was worried they would be gone next time I was there.

I think I’ll keep him around a little while longer.

So now that its going on summer, baking season is over in my mind. @Aspenglow how long can I keep my sourdough starter in the fridge without feeding? It is pretty tangy tasting and I did follow your advice about freezing it, but it is so nice I would rather not kill it through neglect.

That looks great. I’m also thinking about a crepe myrtle tree in the back yard, how fast do they grow, do you know? I’m asking you because we are neighbors and all, your climate is much different than TC friends!

Slacker. The work will always be there, this is when your plants really need you!

(I never had the opportunity to WFH, but think that I wouldn’t do well in that environment. It would be far too distracting because cats and plants and birds and butterflies always take my mind over at any opportunity.)

Not an auspicious start at all. jerks.

And now I’m starting to get distracted here, moonshine makes me want to go and sit on the porch and now is the perfect time for it.

Mollie, I’m so happy things went so well with your kids…and I thought that being weird was just part of being a teenager. I hope I didn’t do it wrong, but its far too late now!

I talked to her sister today. She said that they’re looking at hospice. I feel for her and her little Yorkie, Max.

I’d refresh it at least once a week. You might be able to get away with longer than that, but I never could.

For truly long-term storage, the paint-a-cookie-sheet method is the only way to go. My recent efforts to resurrect a batch that was more than a decade old were phenomenally successful.

< waves to all the wonderful Mumpers > Hugs to everyone, with licks and cuddles from Ollie!

FCM, it’s looking great!

Hey, Flyboy, I was up your way birdwatching today. Can you tell where we ate lunch from my friend’s sammich?

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan and a chicken, rice, and bean bowl. Also some Bitter Unicorn Tears..

Sounds like a win/win.

Dunno. I’ still kickin’ at 55.

I’m grabbing a bag next week.

:frowning:

No, but it looks tasty.

CJ’s Beach House.

Late night final time. Exam went fine, apparently, swampy, I’m still alive, they’ll send the blood and urine results to me via their app and if I have any questions/concerns I can head back over for consulations. Also getting my prescriptions updated, so that’ll take care of the next 6 months. Home around 3:30, had a grilled cheese and bacon sammich and spent 5:30-8pm at the gym then came home for the usual Mac-n-Cheese dinner. Been watching some basketball and resting since then and will head off to bed shortly.

Cookie, sounds like my brother, he had a hip replacement about 15 years ago and got even more inactive, I suspect he didn’t do his PT as instructed and he walks with a cane these days. And his weight is…considerable. Hope wife gets feeling better, 80 may be old but I know a lot of folks that are doing well at that stage of life.

wet one, I always prefer french fries with my burger and pancakes instead of waffles, but maybe one of these days…

shoe, not a good luck for the tech folks, hope they can work you in earlier than your new appointment.

FCM, saw the pictures of your work, well-done but more effort than I care to put into my yard.

doggio, it is always a pleasure to read your work reports, even if I understand about 25% of them.

JtC, hope the porch-sittin’ was nice.

And after 10:30pm so I think I’ll wrap it up and head off to bed. Catch y’all on hump day.

Yes! A fine salmon BLT.

I love their lamb shanks, in the Iron Grill. Weekends only, reservations required. At $39, they’re a special treat instead of a regular thing. Christine (the restaurant’s namesake) used to own Black Forest Steak House in Blaine. We go there on our birthdays.

Incidentally, your profile says ‘Walking Thesaurus’. Of course, I read that to the tune of Waltzing Matilda.

Thanks for the recommendation! I get up toward Blaine with birding friends a few times a year.

Now I’ll be thinking of Waltzibg Matilda, too.

Up, caffeinated, and shelved. Off to heave.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 11c/51f and a chance of showers. Weather app says “Fuck you, rain. Fucking go away.”

Would she be tempted to join you for a drive somewhere, perhaps with lunch out?

After all that exhausting outdoor work, you deserve not to have to cook supper. However, if it means going out then maybe you do need to cook it! The pics looked good on FB though

Taters I am sorry about your eye problems, I sympathise! I’m a week into my treatment today and things are feeling much better so I wish the same for you, only quicker. Good news that your mum has been moved too.

Yesterday was another frustrating day with online issues and mixed messaging. I logged out a bit later than I should have done, went down to the kitchen and made campus food for the rest of the week. Then I realised I have to be on campus next Monday too, which annoyed me even more.

'im indoors made Ruebens for dinner, nice but the beef was still a bit chewy and he didn’t cut it thin enough so it was quite a messy meal. I am going for comfort food tonight, sausages and mash.

Someone thought it would be a good idea to have a 9am meeting today. That was not me. I turned up and gave them the benefit of my sage advice on various things. Then the same someone said we should have a team-building event. I scowled. Someone knows how I feel about such ridiculous time-wasting things.

I am going to make a cup of tea and see if I can find something to be cheerful about.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 78 and partly to mostly cloudy. Blah. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and then sloth the rest of the day as is our wont. Sup will be the leftovers from Moanday.

red how sad about your neighbor. Hospice workers are wonderful folk and will do everything they can to make her comfortable. Hopefully her sister will be able to take care of Max. How sad for him!

MetalMouse it’s always good to get confirmation one is still alive.

Lily a salmon BLT sounds nummy. Maybe I should experiment.

JtC that sucks about already bein’ dressed when they called to reschedule. Hubs does indeed sound like a keeper.

BrightTree howdy and :: skritches :: for Ollie!

BooFae sounds like someone needs a visit from the PSWSLNS for suggestin’ a team buildin’ event. Everybody hates those. Nobody ever wants to do it.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and alack, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Le Sigh.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!
