(Old) I think I MAY start the MMP

I just threw together a salad. FCD had a bowl of cereal. Minimal muss and fuss.

I planted one near the shop maybe 3 years ago? It was 2 or 3 feet tall then and now I think it’s over 6’. I know that they are popular around here and landscapers cut them back severely in late winter (I think) and they seem to grow almost overnight. Not a lot of help - sorry. Google can probably tell you better.

Technically, I’m still kickin’ too - just not as high or as far.

Ugh - “team building” - waste of time and effort. The only team that’s built is the “I Hate Team Building” team. Blech.

Today starts with 54 Ferrets. Actually, it started around 0330 with a nature call, then I started thinking and couldn’t fall back to sleep. Dammit. Gonna be a long day. I think I’ll be going to the boat to do a bit more sanding and painting. Definitely not working in the yard today - my aching bones need something less strenuous.

And I just noticed that I have a dental appt on Moanday. That one snuck up on me - especially since I haven’t gotten half a dozen texts and phone call reminders. Maybe that’ll start tomorrow?

Teeter has Diet Cokes on sale at buy 2 get 3 - so I will. My stock of the bottle version is very low. FCD likes cans, but I’m on Team Bottle. Anyway, I’ll stop on the way back from the marina and get 10 - the max they allow.

So, yeah, much excitement ahead. Happy Wednesday!

It’s a cloudy day, and Weather Channel says the temp will be stuck around 49F all day. The cheerful radio guy says it’ll rise to 57F. We’ll see if either frognostication is correct.

Taters, I hope you’ll soon be less stye-lish.

the big boss’ idea of team building is having a kegerator in the big meeting/break room.

thankfully the partners of the firm think team building is “obscene gerund stupid”. i have managed to avoid all “opportunities” at that sort of thing.

another nice mild day in philly. very clear skies as the humidity and dew point are low. pollen is crazy, stupid trees.

for some reason i have “rocket” on the calendar for sunday…

Morning all. Up about 6:30am and have pilled and then had an apple to break my fast. Dishwasher is doing it’s dishwashing thing and I need to get the garbage out this evening, but those will be my major contributions to healthy living today. 64F now and due to reach 81F with a 1-in-4 chance of some showers this afternoon.

Got the blood and urine test results from my Doc, Cholestol is a bit high (215), mostly at the LDL but still not bad. The eGFR, which measures kidney efficiency, is low (67) but that apparently is partly due to my age. Will have a look at prior years results to see if it’s a big dropoff and worth further consultation.

boo fae, I had to attend a fair number of ‘team building’ events in my government career and I am with you 100% that they waste time and any benefit is temporary and ephemeral. And for cheerfulness, hey, there are bands to be heard this weekend!

You know you are ‘old folks’ when dinner is a bowl of cereal and it seems the right thing (been known to do pancakes and bacon for the evening meal myself).

FCM, you just made me look at my future appointments, but nothing before August. Might see the eye doctor but nothing seems to have changed much so may skip this year. We’ll see.

I think I like your boss…

And onward into the morning internettin’. Have a good day all.

Morning, all! It was a cool start this morning, but I started to sweat by the third mile.

Mrs Magill attended a cyber security expo yesterday in downtown. The hotel where it was being held wanted thirty dollars for parking, but it was only a block away from the hospital where she had her chemo a couple of years ago, which has free parking. As it turns out, I married a dirty cheat who will walk a block to save thirty bucks, and I am just fine with that. She had driven Squeaky’s car, a Chevy Bolt, becuase it uses less gas than her Highlander and, being a compact, it would be able to fit into more spaces. I was unaware of the car trade, and had a minor heart attack at the empty driveway that afternoon while Squeaky was upstairs.

I have counselling this afternoon. I did a lot in the last two weeks. I still have the nagging doubt that I may be going too fast and heading in a direction that Mrs Magill can’t follow. I don’t like that thought, but it’s there.

No, I’m not.

FCM You are welcome to send some leftovers my way. I love scalloped potatoes. Mrs Magill cannot eat them, since she had an unfortunate encounter with them when she was little.

Now I’m picturing a bunch of nuns singing Closer, and it is wrong on so many levels.

Cookie I hope your wife can get moving again. My mother stopped moving during the pandemic, and her health just went downhill from there.

Good morning everyone!

It is cool and cloudy with rain promised. I can’t decide if I should feed my lemon tree or not. Its looking kinda peaky, but it is in a cloth grow bag. If I feed it and it rains, the rain will wash all of the fertilizer out. My life is full of such big decisions!

You have done a whole lot in the last couple of weeks, but I also have no doubt that no matter which direction you go, your subconscious will be sure that the Mrs can come with.

At least those usually were something different. Not like the yearly “sexual harassment” and “cyber-security” classes we had to take every year. Nobody actually paid attention to the videos, we did our own thing while they were running and then used the office cheat sheet to get perfect scores.

Many indoor only cats die of kidney disease mistaken for age. We have our cats kidney functions checked every couple of years and yearly when they are over ten. Once the vet says something about kidney problems, we start encouraging kitty to drink more water to help their kidneys work.

So, my advice to you is to have another large glass of water every morning to help your kidneys flush out after hours of inactivity. Or not, I haven’t even played a nursing student in a school play.

I hate it when I do that. I’m sure it meant something important when I wrote it down…

Thanks, it was helpful. I’ve done a lot of research, always like to hear from personal experience though.

Sounds like something TM would do. Good job not slapping her with a used tea bag. (Hopes that suggesting you would stoop to using tea in bags isn’t an unforgivable insult.)

Good morning.

It’s 52F and damp outside. The forecast calls for clouds with periods of rain throughout the day, with a daytime high of 58F.

Red, I’m sorry about your neighbor.

BooFae, I’m also not a fan of team-building activities. “Enforced” fun is never fun.

Metal Mouse, good to know you’re still alive and kicking.

Bright Tree, good to see you pop in! Scritches and treats to Ollie!

Yesterday morning, I drove to my mother’s house with the idea of going to get some clothes for her. I ended up ditching that idea because I couldn’t find the type of pants she needed.

While there, I got her mail, checked to make sure nothing was due, locked up the house again, drove to Target, spent a few hundred on clothing and toiletries for my mother, and then drove to the SNF. I was…disappointed. I know it’s not supposed to be particularly fancy, but she shares a room (at least she has a window!), and it’s pretty noisy. She doesn’t have a bathroom in her room, either. She has to use the potty chair or call for a nurse. The staff were great, and I filled out and signed a bunch of forms while there.

Her care team will contact me to schedule a meeting to review therapy goals and a release date.

My mother was griping about the bed, so they were going to replace her mattress yesterday. The memory thing is ever-present, yet she could remember enough to nag me to check her house, the mail, and pay bills every five minutes. She’s worried about being “dumped” there permanently, which won’t be the case, of course.

Medicare is paying for this, so I knew not to expect the best, but honestly, I was a little shocked that they don’t have their own bathroom/shower facilities.

I’ll have to talk with my sister upon her return.

Today we’re supposed to go to the nursery, and tomorrow morning I’ll go back out to the SNF to visit with my mother for a bit, and then I have an appointment for a haircut.

In a bit, I’ll put the compress on my eye again. I’m already very impatient and want this stupid stye gone. I woke up with a goopy eye and a big puffy sac under my eye…sooooo attractive!

I think today is a three cup coffee day. You all take care of yourselves.

I rarely cared for team building events when I still worked. With the exception of the one manager who scheduled a minor league baseball event every summer, complete with skybox, most were just a tad on the ridiculous side.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I’ll take out the trash, then do a load or two of laundry. Sis and I are trying to coordinate our day out around uncertain medical appointments, so we may wait until Saturday again. That eliminates a few of our options, given that neither of us wants to deal with crowds. One of the nice things about both of us being RDOS is that we can hit places on a weekday morning or early afternoon and pretty much have the place to ourselves.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

and i just figured out what the rocket is! whew! it was indeed important, mortgage payment. for some reason it takes a full week for my mortgage payment to go through. i have to push the payment the week of the 17th for it to get to rocket on the week of the 25th.

taters, good news that the staff is good. that can make things so much better. i hope your eye gets better. that sounds really icky.

“What restaurant gave me the worst service ever,” Alex?

Am I doing things wrong? We usually don’t have supper until 7.

I thought it was put there to provide a left bank for that stretch of the Mississippi.

So am I.

Better than amputation, presumably.

One thing the Navy taught me: If it’s good for one meal, it’s good for any meal.

Mollie – presumably “Dad” had the talk with the boys. Have they met “Mollie” yet?

Was it here in a MMP thread that someone was talking about hosting a foreign exchange student last fall? (Or was it the year before? Time passes very oddly these days… .)

1100, and currently 56 Ferrets (13 Centipedes) out of the predicted 64. 64 the next two days, too, with rain, but then it goes up into the 70s the next few days. Perhaps spring has finally sprung… .

Will probably do a bit of shopping and visit the library Saturday, but as far as I know we have nothing else planned for the rest of the week. RDOS marches on!

[cranky night nurse here] At our age, a yearly eye exam is important. It isn’t just about how well you can see or not needing new eyeglasses. At our age many subtle yet insidious things can be beginning to happen, like glaucoma or macular degeneration and you need to catch that stuff early and start treating it before your eyesight is affected.

So make that appt. Don’t make us tell you again or I’ll get jane and nellie to team up with me and shake our nursely and schoolmarm fingers at you.

Isn’t every day? [mutters Boo as she nudges the cat off her lap and trudges out to the kitchen to punch the ‘brew’ button on the Keurig].

I made them butter chicken and told them about the dysphoria. I told them I may be trans, but they have not met Mollie yet. I’m of two minds about presenting for my session today. I really like how I feel when presenting, but I don’t want to freak Spike out.

A friend of mine almost blew his routine eye exam off, due to it being booked the same time as a camping trip, but he’d forgotten to change the date until it was so close there would be a fee for cancelling, so he went, as it was only a half hour trip from the campsite we were staying at to the opticians.

Turned out his retina was in the process of detaching. They told him he probably would have gone suddenly blind in that eye within a matters of weeks if they hadn’t picked it up and been able to rush him in for treatment to stabilise it. He had no symptoms at all.

Maybe go to the eye test…

Soggy day today, but I’m not complaining, it’s been a bit too dry for May, and hey, I was inside most of the day anyway. The weather people say some more centipedes (and more rain) should be arriving by the end of the week, so hopefully they all arrive safely.

Did the Slides thing again. It seemed like a slow day.

I bet The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence would rock doing that.

Afternoon all. Dishes are washed and I’ll put them away..sometime. Need to get the garbage bin out for tomorrow and pick up my prescriptions, so that will be my major focus this afternoon, along with the usual gym time. Up to 74F and the rain chances have gone away, so a nice day if I could be bothered to go out…

Mollie, you might be rushing a bit, things are going well with family, maybe better than you expected, but there will be bumps on this road you’ve taken and best be ready for them. And praise to Mrs. Magill, a one-block walk trumps $30 parking anytime in my book.

JtC, I am doing my best to forget all about those POSH (Prevention Of Sexual Harrassment) and security training sessions I had to endure for 30 years… And my problem isn’t my kidneys working, it’s thier over-working, I’m having to go 9-10 times a day and nearly 3 liters of fluid a day (sorry if TMI).

Taters, maybe not the best facility, but sounds like it has good people, so that makes up for a lot. Hope she doesn’t have to spend much time there. And best wishes for the eye getting better soon.

There is much truth there.

Herald, yes, can’t remember who but there was a discussion about it.

Yes Ma’am.

Nut, see above, I’ll go, I’ll go.

And need to get around to doing something..what, I don’t know but certainly something. Take care all.

Not TMI at all…we’ll all get through this quicksand of getting older together. We can take turns learning things the hard way and then sharing lessons learned.

Give me an hour or two, then check your PMs.

What, did they try to shank her or something?

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRGG! :face_with_peeking_eye: Nightmare fuel.

I personally 125% concur.

Heh.

Without going into TMI details, one night during closing I was the youngest woman there - and it was a 100% female crew that night, so you know we got to talkin’ - and while swapping perimopause symptoms stories, as one does, one of the other women mentioned a thing, and I went, “Oooooooohhhh, that’s what that’s all about?!” and got the “Awww, bless your heart” look.

Split shift tonight, so I get to sleep in, fart around all afternoon, then go in at 8 p.m. to start the closing stuff.

I lurve split shift; it’s like a day off PLUS I get to go see my crew and make a few bucks.

It’s a recent development, due mostly to the crackdown from TPTB about overtime pay, and I haz doubleplus thumbs up for this innovation.

Monkey has the zoomiest of zoomies, so even though the side door is propped open for him, he keeps coming back & hopping onto the side table & batting stuff around to knock things off. Little twerp. Good thing for him that he’s so handsome and snuggly.

Meanwhile, I treated myself to a shipment of highly priced but insanely delicious soooooouuuuuuup for my birthday, which isn’t for a coupla weeks but I’m having some right now HA HA NYAH!!! :winking_face_with_tongue:

I figured, it’s probably the healthiest splurge I could make … my hookers’n’blow days are in my past, but delishush chicken soup is part of my future!

(I also got the butternut squash one, but I haven’t tried it. Yet. Gotta have something to look forward to in this world.)

Went out for a celebratory lunch today to one of our favorite places. They may have changed chefs, as it wasn’t up to what we are used to there, but even so we enjoyed ourselves.

Coffee – an obvious invention of the gods! My three-cup days seem to be over, alas, unless I start veeerrry early in the morning. And I’ve definitely seen the last two-pot day.

“Regenerative” broth. Does that mean the jar refills itself after you pour some out?

BLATs for supper last night. Lady SCAdian tried something different this time – she mashed the avocado up with the mayonnaise, then spread that on the bread. I think I prefer them made with sliced avocado. A bit of salt might have helped.

Back from counselling. This has been a big two weeks for me, and while I would love to keep moving at this pace because everyone has been so positive, I think I’ll slow down an plateau for a bit and let Mrs Magill catch up to me. For right now though, I’m just gonna enjoy the good vibes.

Her mother made her finish her dinner while she had a bad stomach bug, and the scalloped potatoes were her wafer thin mint, so to speak. Now they make her queasy.
