(Old) I think I MAY start the MMP

I’ve worked in some eye-popping unprofessional places, but that’s not one I’ve encountered yet.

My ads de jour are for electric trikes ( thanks ** Mooooom** )

Found a place close by to get the safety inspection for my car and will call tomorrow to see when I can get in. Then I’ll pull out my paperwork and head wherever the hell it is to get Texas tags. This will be the first time I’ve ever had to put on a front tag. Indiana and Tennessee don’t require them and I wasn’t in Colorado long enough to change over.

I don’t think I’ve ever even seen Lipton tea bags this side of the pond. The only Lipton branded stuff is bottled fruity ice teas. I don’t drink much tea- the only stuff I have around is some cheap stuff I got when I was due to have builders in, plus a couple of nice speciality bags for guests and my rare tea cravings.

I used to live quite near one of their previous residences at the other end of the country before they got the new hats. Only bumped into them once at a local county show though, and all us peasants were cleared off to one side by some humourless men in suits and they never said nuffink to me. Chuck did own a plant nursery nearby there which I visited quite often cos it actually had a really good selection of unusual plants, but though reputedly he was also there quite often, he was never on the till when I went round.

Anyway, it’s sunny but windy today. The extra centipedes have not arrived yet.

Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 47 degrees Ferret Height(8.333 Centipedes).
Spot: < comes into living room, starts yowling >
Me: < runs yowls through Universal Translator >
Result: “I have awakened, please comfort me during this difficult time.”

Also mine.

Did you let him know that supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony?

I’m not a morning person, either. I can relate to Spot.

Heh, I was actually at the show in the bee tent, which was supposed to have a royal visit. They were sending some cute kids in there to ask us questions about bees and the visitors were then going to talk to the kids.

Just cos I said I was going to point out that the queen doesn’t actually run the hive, the decisions are really made collectively by the workers and if she doesn’t perform as required the worker bees will just kick her out and make a new one, they told me I had to leave… I mean it’s true, aren’t I allowed to tell kids about bee behaviour?? When they’ve asked me?? So not fair.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 13c/54f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This weather is sort of like fucking watching turtles. It’s just not that fucking exciting.”

 If there’s one thing us Brits are good it, it’s a decent cup of tea! Sorry to hear about the tooth problem, I hope the dentist can fix it easily. Definitely hilarious about the hiding place too.

Nope…you needed a day off, and you took one. It’s not fun running around for other people when you have a poorly eye, you did the sensible thing and took time for yourself so you could deal with that instead. I hope your eye is easier today.

Typhoo and Liptons are much the same quality, it’s the scrapings off the floor!

Nuts Haven’t Charlie and Cam popped round for a cuppa and a discussion about what they should be planting?

Of course, but you may have to put up with the occasional sneer over the Liptons!

Herald We don’t talk about Irish tea, not after the incident with Barry’s…

As metalmouse noted, the Travel Gods were not nice to me yesterday, although they only managed to mess with the final bus journey on the way home. Today they have made amends on my commute to campus, let’s hope they carry on feeling generous. I’ve had a busy day sorting out exam stuff for Monday, I have to be on campus as we have a couple of students taking an exam that we (meaning “I”) have to arrange, so that will be a twitchy kind of day until they’re finished. The invigilators are both PhD students, and have both confirmed they’ll be here so that’s a good thing. There are emails to go out to students who use computers for exams, one of those is a student we are not allowed to contact (and she’s not allowed to contact us) so I’ve had to ask our Director of Operations to send that out.

Meeting with Troublesome Minion in 10 minutes, I wonder what she’ll find to gripe about today…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and sunny. I shall betake myself to the church house to take care of candle and other duties this mornin’. There may or may not be quality cee-mint pond time. I think both of us might have gotten a bit too much sun yestiddy and may need to hold off today. We shall see. Of course there will be the usual sloth as is our wont. Sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit, just cause.

red that sucks! However it was good to be able to have lunch with sis, so at least sump’n good came of it. Hope the car inspection goes well and that you can get the new tags without too much hassle.

nuts I think it’s extremely rude of Chuck and Cam to not have invited you round for tea and light refreshments. After all, y’all are practically next door neighbors! Then again, they may be afraid you’d unite the worker bees and kick Cam out of the castle or sump’n.

shoe, BooFae, nuts and probably others the only tea I drink is iced tea. Even then my southern USofAness gets called into question cause I don’t like it overly sweet. I make up for that by eatin’ fried okra and grits.

lucky you would be fine to wear that at the cee-mint pond. The back yahd is privacy fenced so no one would see. Plus, after the third of my margaritas you wouldn’t care.

shoe I say you deserve purple shimmery eyeliner. You definitely got some goodwill and karma along with the extra bucks. It’s always a good thing not to tempt sad puppy dawg eyes.

MetalMouse I am curious, do ‘rents ever get out of hand at games? I cannot understand why some folks want to do that. I would be wantin’ to ban ‘em from attendin’ games if they can’t behave.

FlyBoy it’s always a mystery when a co-irker suddenly disappears. Let’s hope he found a better gig. Date night sounds like it went well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must purtify. Fortunately I will not be amongst the great unwashed and will be all alone, so I can get away with shorts, tshirt and sneaks

Hello again, my friends. I haven’t posted because recovery has been rough. Having this surgery set off every other issue I have. I really had no idea this surgery was going to be so major. The surgeon talked about it like it was no big deal. (Worse, he was overly enthusiastic. Pre-op: “Are you excited? I’m excited for you!”) My kids didn’t believe him (or me, in my usual “It’s no big deal” white lie), so they set things up for the long haul. My daughter is supposed to leave for the weekend today, but her brother is sick and may be unable to spell her. In that case, she’ll leave Saturday and return Monday, and I’ll be on my own for 48 hours.

No bending means I can’t put on undies, socks, or pants, and I can’t get anything out of the dryer, lower cupboards, etc.. I also can’t pick up whatever I drop. That’s the most frustrating part. My sweet daughter is very hard-nosed about this, but while she’s gone, I’ll just have to break the rules and bend as needed.

My dishwasher quit, but the silver lining is that washing dishes by hand means no bending needed.

I couldn’t get into or out of bed without so much pain, I had trouble talking, so I slept in the recliner several nights. Beds are wonderful inventions, and I’m so glad to be back in mine!

I’ve been pushing myself to do more walking. My daughter has been walking Sir Charles. The love is mutual, and she’s great with himwith him, but he’s confused. I’ve started accompanying them for part of the walk. It upsets him when I leave. Sorry, Charlie.

I long for the mere pre-op pain level, but that’s to be expected. If the device works, I should be pain-free within 11 months.

I have read all but retained little, so hugs, sympathetic, congratulatory, or just plain affectionate, all around.

Have you tried their cinnamon stick flavor? Very yum!

Heh - yeah, like I wouldn’t get The Look for that! Plus the other night was an anomoly. Just last night, he went, of his own accord, to his crate at 9.

I was getting them on my tablet even tho FCD (on his laptop) was the one shopping. I guess it’s tied to the IP rather than the device? “Targeted” ads do so piss me off!

Speaking of the Royals getting out among the peasantry, FCD was watching an interview with Tom Hanks so I got to hear much of it. He was talking about taking his kids to Disneyland and I had to wonder if he was able to disappear into the crowd and be just like any other parent. In fact, I often wonder that about celebs - when not performing, how normal are their lives? When I lived in Coronado, I heard people talk about seeing Dick Van Dyke in the Safeway - was he able to shop unmolested? Then again, when the makeup and the glamorous clothes are replaced with bed head and scuffy jeans and t-shirt, do the famous just blend into the crowd?

Today started with 50 Ferrets and it might hit 70. I’m letting it warm a bit before heading to the marina with paint brush in hand. After a quick sanding, I’m hoping it’ll be a quick job to apply the first coat so I can get back home to laundry. That’s as far as my planning has gone.

For now, tho, I’ll haul the dirties downstairs and get them all sorted - maybe even start a load - then shower and dress and head out.

Happy Firday!!

Hi folks - I decided to drop in. I’ve been following the thread all week and have now built up a decent idea of everyone’s state of play.

Welcome to Mollie and their recent adjustments. That seems to have gone / be going about as well as could be hoped for. Hooray for that! Deep breath and tackle the next steps when you’re ready. Not a race.

Ouch for Nellie’s surgery turning out to be a Big Deal. Get better soon!

Everyone else seems to be mostly cruising along. Hooray for cruising, net of the inevitable road hazards & speed bumps.

Almost nothing new at this end. GF & I are still nuts for each other. It’s been 16 months since we met and 14 since we started dating for real.

Her divorce & property settlement are done, still awaiting their joint house selling. She’s getting close to having her own place decluttered enough that she’s willing to let me spend time there. The sorta plan now is both of us together alternating ~3 days here, ~3 days there, with the odd day apart now and again. As a prelude to her selling her place and moving near me, probably into the same building. Or us both moving together into a single residence someplace here in the Metroblob. Neither of us really wants to live in / near her 'burb, although her residence itself is great.

Other than that, retired life consists of eating, sleeping, and wondering what to do the rest of the time. RDOS FTW!

Cheers!

60F at 0720. It’s going to be an uncomfortable weekend as they won’t switch over to cooling yet. Talked to our maintenance guy yesterday, who is definitely leaving us on Monday. We are truly fucked, as management has no hiring skills in that department.

We picked up our tomato plant yesterday, along with some leeks and a bunch of herbs, so we may be getting those in pots either today or tomorrow morning before the heat sets in.

The internet (comcast) has been acting up lately. I hope they have a call in for service. We’ve lost connection three times in the last two days.

We might open the windows today. The frognosticators are talking a high of about 70 ferrets. We’ll see. Don’t forget, Science Friday is on today!

The restaurant is right on the shore. It even has a little concrete dock that was functional decades ago. Large windows provide views of the bay. At 18:30, the sun, even with the clouds, was reflecting brightly off the water. The Spousal Unit led us to three different tables (including one in the bar) before we settled on a high table that wasn’t being blasted too much. I lowered the shades on a couple of windows. Our waiter suggested we move to the table in front of the window, because someone’s bound to sit there and open the shade. We stayed put. We were mostly through our meals, when some people sat at the window table… and opened the shade. The Spousal Unit laughed and told them why she was laughing. She assured them that they were fine. The sun had moved a bit, and there were more clouds filtering it. Then the waiter came out, and he started laughing.

Good morning, Mumpers!

This is three nights in a row now that I’ve gone to bed at a decent time and gotten up feeling refreshed. If I’m gonna self sabotage, I’ll need to do it soon, otherwise I’ll be unstoppable!

I was sent an invitation to the MTTA Discord server last night. It’s been a since lock down that I’d been on Discord, so I had to relearn all that. I’ve been given a warm welcome there. I know people like me! I’m not alone! It’s difficult to express how good that feels.

I had a good sleep going, so my Fitbit didn’t get me up until the last minute. We had a good walk, it was 46ºF, too cool for my cute jacket. Chloé mostly kept in line - there were a couple of sticks that needed relocation, but she only tried to kill Mrs Magill once, so we’ll take what we can get.

Mrs Magill’s new headache medicine came in last night, so we headed to the CVS in Cool Springs after yoga. Since it is a controlled substance, we had to swing by the house to grab her ID and we picked up a puppy-dog to boot. Much to Chloé’s delight, we ran through the Raisin’ Cain’s for some chicken fingers. She was (very) briefly upset this drive-through did not give her whipped cream, but then she realized there was CHICKEN!!!

Our last Band Season starts today. Yes - it is May. Yes - the first show isn’t until August. It starts today, and Squeaky forgot his hat, sunscreen, and water jug. I have a feeling it’s gonna be an interesting senior year.

Oh yeah - the dentist looked at my tooth and my crown, said they both looked remarkable for being thirty years old, and glued that sucker back on. Everything feels normal in my mouth again.

It is a living thing.

Shoe Lipton is good for iced tea, where all the flavor is drowned out by cold, sweetener, and lemon juice. That is all.

This is one of those things I’d never allowed myself to get excited about, but shimmery purple eyeliner effin’ rocks!

Good to hear - I’ve been intrigued since I’d seen the preview, but I have a soft spot for sheep, since I would help my Grandfather work his sheep farm during the summer.

I gave up caffeine for Lent. Of course, my afternoon cup of Yorkshire Gold didn’t count.

No! Bad Nellie!! No bending!! If I’ve learned one thing, it’s listen to the post-op instructions. You don’t want to end up in the ER while Dr. Frankenstein pushes out the infection with his hands. Yes - that is something that actually happened. No - it was worse than it sounded.

FCM - living in Nashville, you see your fair share of celebrities. They say the first rule of living in Nolensville is that you do not talk about the famous people who live in Nolensville, but I have seen Keith Urban at the Publix more than once.

Thank you, Pilot. I’m trying to keep it one day at a time. Also it’s is she/her in the MMP - I’ve never been a fan of the singular they, but English, being a Germanic language, has no better pronoun for a gender neutral human.

i was at the wb mason event yest.. that was a wild time. so many pens, many, many pens. i stayed 'til the end and scored many beverages. it started cold and rainy, then it finally cleared up around 10ish.

the heetz area was quite popular once people found out about it. Heetz | Heat Your Space – Victor® Technology i’m wanting one of the desk pads. cold hands. the leg thing would be nice as well.
Spec Ops Tools | Elite Performance, Uncommon Duty they had these tools there as well. they are really well made. i like the colour. the sales person and i had a good time dissing the colour choices of milwaukee and stanley. don’t even mention the crazy pink tool kits. that is just insane.
i managed to get home with my haul, separate my precious from things for the office. i scored a door stop alarm! so cool! i was very happy to be with lager in the chair. he was happy that i didn’t want to move.

nelliebly, i’m sorry recovery isn’t going well. is the “no bending” from the waist or knees? i really hope this device works!

i’m very picky about hot beverages, must be a proper cup of tea with loose leaves and brewing time, hot chocolate must be made with milk. less picky about ice tea, and will make sun tea with various tea bags for ice tea.

{{{{Nellie}}}}

The fried okra and grits sound good, but you can keep the iced tea.

Better, presumably, than wandering vaguely all about, quite of his own accord!

The person you lent it to is way behind on giving it back!

Currently (1030) we have 59 of the expected 62 Ferrets. Ferret predictions for the next six days range from 74 to 82. :slightly_smiling_face:

Don’t you mean ‘sweet tea’? Iced tea doesn’t have any sugar in it.

(God, I’ll never forget the time I stopped at a place in Alabama and asked for an iced tea. :face_vomiting: )

In my top three as well.

This won’t help much with the undies and socks, but is wonderful for many other things that you would need to pick up off the floor. Mine gets used frequently to pick up Nelson’s toys (little stinker knows where his toy box is located and gets them out, but I’ve not been able to teach him to put them away when he’s done). I hope that the pain eases up soon.

Constant Comment is my favorite of theirs.

Living in the Nashville area for thirty years, you just got used to seeing famous folks at the grocery store, CVS or your favorite restaurant. Most locals just leave them alone to do their thing.

Nelson always loved going to the drive thru at Bojangles or Whitt’s. Bojangles usually offered a nugget or small strip and Whitt’s a condiment cup of smoked turkey. Dogs are no dummies, they know how to put on the patented I’m a cute little doggy who likes treats look. Glad Chloe got some chicken.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Once I get sheveled, I’ll take Nelson for a ride to get the car inspection (the guy at the place said it takes about 10 minutes, no appointment needed). We may even check out the dog park at the T.C. Jester city park!

Sis is coming over tomorrow, so I really need to get hold of St. Christopher’s to schedule a donation. We both have stuff for them and the Art Asylum, then we’ll hit the spice store by the farmer’s market (I need some south Asian spices).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Drop your knickers on the floor, insert your feet in the appropriate places, and use the grabbers to pull them up to where you can reach them without bending.
